Imagine being one of the most recognisable and monolithic companies on the planet and still not being able to vet their own store. Software's wild, man.
I always check critical reviews because a lot of the times they highlight pet peeves you might have with the app that others don't. For instance, I can't tolerate full screen video ads in any app I use. So I always check if any app has an abundance of those.
I think a good rule of thumb is to do this in order: 1) Check the developer's name. Is the developer fairly well known, or someone you've never heard of? If it's a company, do they have an official webpage, and does it look legit? Did the developer make any other apps, and do they look professional as well, or generic? 2) Has the app been recently published? If the app has been around for a few months, it is more likely to receive real reviews from real people, as opposed to when the app is recent. Unless you are absolutely sure you can trust the app, it's probably best to wait until the app has been around for at least 3 months or so. 3) How many people downloaded the app, and what is the overall rating? At this stage, try to find the most critical reviews, and look out for information that is not immediately obvious from the app description. 4) If you decide to download and run the app, be on the lookout for permissions - is the app trying to access your mic, camera? Is it trying to find your location when it shouldn't?

As a Thai people, I can confirm these types of WAP billing are still exist for siphoning the money from anyone who use the phone with prepaid SIM. Especially the elderly who don't know how these type of service works. They have various ways to lure the targets to subscribe WAP billing services such as the classic old method, sending SMS that telling the recipient about getting a winning prize or providing some horoscope stuff through messages(And the people loves this shit, IDK why). Although, we, as thai people, have a solution to cancel these type of services by calling the national auto dialer call center number that specifically handling this type of SMS services. This is why I like apple. I don't have to do a full-scale investigation on every game I ever may want to download because the IOS store has it's sh/t together.
Agree. Usually the good apps are available on all stores. If it’s not, it’s shady. I also don’t understand or enjoy the fact every app you download asks permission to access contacts photos camera microphone when the app your downloading has nothing to do with those things. I’m not sure Apple does it for us as it’s not something asked prior to downloading an app. But I’d like to think they don’t share.
i used to be on an ipad all of the time and used old phones, a year ago i was able to buy an Android and oh boy how much the store scares me even now.. as paranoid as i am already i still deleted some apps after watching this video I'm used to seeing hate towards apple from friends/family but my next phone is gonna be an iphone for sure.

There are plenty of sms apps on the app store as well, but they need the approval from Apple before being listed. There's also no need to download them when the stock one works just fine (isn't the same true for the stock sms for android devices though?) As far as android devices go, the Pixel phones seem to be the most secure, since they can get their security update directly from Google themselves. The best form of security, though, is user judgment. For the same reason you don't download and run just anything you find on the web on windows, the same applies for android devices.

Always thought those advertisements are just bad games or meme games that try and get kids' attention.
Was even tempted to download one just to see how horrible they are to play.
Glad that I didn't.
As I would say, just use mutahar OS

As a Thai people, I can confirm these types of WAP billing are still exist for siphoning the money from anyone who use the phone with prepaid SIM. Especially the elderly who don't know how these type of service works. They have various ways to lure the targets to subscribe WAP billing services such as the classic old method, sending SMS that telling the recipient about getting a winning prize or providing some horoscope stuff through messages(And the people loves this shit, IDK why). Although, we, as thai people, have a solution to cancel these type of services by calling the national auto dialer call center number that specifically handling this type of SMS services.
Now, after I watch this video, I have known how they keep profits in nowday and stay relevant.
Glad to be back in the club
in Thailand, the DAILY salary for 8 hours work is 310 baht. For your reference.
It isn't a good idea though to make google enforce more control over google play. It'll end up like the app store
Tbf if they stops more malware then I could see why they would
Thank you Muta, this is insanely useful.
But I’d like to think they don’t share.
i used to be on an ipad all of the time and used old phones, a year ago i was able to buy an Android and oh boy how much the store scares me even now.. as paranoid as i am already i still deleted some apps after watching this video
I'm used to seeing hate towards apple from friends/family but my next phone is gonna be an iphone for sure.
Not always true. Apple is one on the the greediest companies out there. There hardware is so week no one can really port good games on it. An it seems like the apps are worse quality .
Dont forget apple had the red ring of death for so long.
@@AdriCr4ft true but apple apps tend to be the worst among other phones and computers . Making apple security actually worse if people don’t wanna help protect it like on windows phones
@ well I guess it depends what iPhone you have.. my phone plays great on Xbox cloud games
Muta's music + him telling me about my money potentally being stolen spooked me good. Literally checked my phone's premium texting services, and the only one that came up was the always ask from samsung's default texting app. Turned it on off just to be sure but ye. Good vid, Muta.
Your videos dont feel the same with the "spooky" music in the background. I like it a lot more when its just your voice and the subject
Good coverage! I've been seeing a huge rise in infected phones lately.
Don't worry, I knew this was an issue all the way back when Vinny streamed these 'games'

There are plenty of sms apps on the app store as well, but they need the approval from Apple before being listed. There's also no need to download them when the stock one works just fine (isn't the same true for the stock sms for android devices though?)
As far as android devices go, the Pixel phones seem to be the most secure, since they can get their security update directly from Google themselves. The best form of security, though, is user judgment. For the same reason you don't download and run just anything you find on the web on windows, the same applies for android devices.
Mutah left a typo in the video, that is I'm glad this wonderful man exists
Really appreciate the mood setting hum in the background Muta

Everything that evolves, mankind slowly but surely corrupts, and tech these days is at a point where it feels just as if not more sketchy as other mediums
"We just got the club back!"
I have that "never trust an ad" sense, I absolutely hate the "Hero Wars" game.... I got constant ads about the stupid game and it was extremely annoying.... Sometimes it took gameplay footage from OTHER GAMES just so it can swindle the person into downloading the app.... I'm happy that there isn't barely any ads about the game, the game didn't deserve the recognition it forcefully demanded from people.... It made me mad and I reported the ads to UA-cam, the ads are taken off my side and it made me feel much better....
1:56 hahahahahaha "wap fraud"
the only way to prevent this would technically be a manual review process and even then it would be TOO slow and stuff still might slip through
Stripclub Muta has returned
Its nice to see you have the same Pokemon:GO and Wealthsimple ads on your Play Store

"The Joker" who is naming these edgy viruses, I thought the sheer name should send shivers down your body.
