Google is grossly negligent. Thankfully, most reputable AV would block these downloads or execution.
Which is why the first step for all of these is to disable one's antivirus 😂
Unfortunately as a software developer I can not say any AV are reputable. I am sick of the FALSE POSITIVES. AV don't even look for malicious code, they scan for non malicious binary strings of a malicious file so it is faster. this means many legit software get flagged and they make sales on false positives.
@@inadad8878 No. False positives are rare in most AV including Eset. Test results are readily available online such as AV-Comparatives, AV-Test, Virus Bulletin, etc.
Remember: When it says "Undetected", it doesn't mean the Anti Cheat. it means VirusTotal.
The Internet, today, is STILL virtually 100% unregulated. They certainly opened the motherload of a can of worms when they released this onto the world.
There are a million reasons why being able to buy ads to prioritize search results is a bad idea. Even a criminal one.
3:50 And that is the reason adblockers are good for you, even encouraged to use by the FBI.
2:01 You would think "Oh, that wasn't from Google search."
But it was hosted on their adware platform... So... yes, their ToS may say they are not responsible. But it... is hosting on their website, violating their own ToS with weak enforcement.
This will never stop unless Google is held directly accountable for these malware links. Only then, when it really hurts in their wallet will this actually be fixed.
I downloaded vlc from Google search and windows didn't detect it. It was malware. I noticed the ssd light was on solid. I didn't have this problem after I installed mint on the same machine. Very fast too. Now it's got ublock, no script, etc. And im learning about linux too.
this is why I love adblockers
It depends on the browser you are using. I saw something recently that Google is working on a way to cripple/make non-functional existing adblockers in a future release of any Chromium based browser. I don't remember the details, but I believe it had to do with moving to a new version of some API. I also think it was intended to be released before the end of the year. I think, because it is not Chromium based, that Firefox was one browser mentioned that would not be affected.
@@wildbill4496 That's Manifest V3. And yes, Firefox is immune because it is not Chromium based. The entire point of Google's implementation of V3 is to remove adblockers like on their Android browser (and again, Firefox on android does allow addons including adblockers).
I'm sure adblockers will (if they havne't already) find a way around V3, but Google's priorities should be very clear and I would not suggest a Chromium based browser to anyone.
@@MTGeomancer Didn't even know there was ad blockers for android. I thought the only way to block any ads in android was using a network wide browser
So my takeaway from this video is, I will never ever ever ever remove my ad blocker. I don't think often about it, but man there are endless ads loaded with all kinds of treats.
"probably selling it to China" it could be selling to anyone, even USA. After all, USA Companies have the MOST Data Collections
US isn't the really scary one though, demented president gona be replaced by a moronic one, while they continue on their downward spiral
while China is using it to steer all business towards them so they can sell you more cheap junk that ends up in landfill in a year or two, and is propping up putlerstan who is waving nukes around if you don't buy oil/gas from them so they can build more tanks to invade "brotherly" nations
You forgot the most important. Every new pc needs to download ram.
I like how you made the cursor big. It enhances the video watching experience.
It's all common sense. And who ever clicks on the sponsored results? They are clearly marked and almost never contain the information you're looking for.
These ads for malware are usually targeted toward those without technology literacy (kids and the elderly, for example), hence the fake download buttons and false promise of game cheats. Most, if not all, people that would click these types of links lack an understanding of computer safety practices, and that's what the people creating these virus and malware downloads are counting on. If they can trick someone into clicking a fake link, they can reasonably trick them into downloading and running malware as well.
Nice video man! Btw what vpn do you use?
The Google feature that allows you to sync your browsers was made to repeatedly infect your browsers with PUPs that hijack you search engine. Not turning off my antivirus.
And this is why I have adblockers
Not really related, but I just managed to un-roll my PC from organization in my old school where I went to during COVID. We had a work from home and my PC was the part of the organization. The antivirus was managed for the school, disabling a few of the functions.
And now how would it be with the security kept untouched? Which most people probably have with Win10 and 11. It even has a ransomware protection of some kind.
Best set up a standard user account with UAC up to the max or go with Linux where you have to add password for every more serious action to take. By default even browsers don't have execution privileges.
Google (who owns UA-cam) spamming you with Malware. "Why are my users using adblockers? STOP IT!"
One the second download, the file size is different, from 400K to 4.2M, that should alert people.
Also, the full screen installer had a close cross on the top right (barelly visible I agree) but it's a typical location for closing application.
Now, your scenario is not very realistic, because a normie would be using the default browser and not Firefox.
(I don't know if it would help in that situation though)
It would have been helpful to show on wallpaper cave that the download link is an ad by showing the little blue icons in the top right of the ad, so people understand to NOT click on it.
I bet you can do that same thing in pretty much every browser currently in existent. However this brings to mind some thng i noticed recently that i think helps illustrate your point Leo. For alot of people above the contacts list on the right side of facebook there are usually 1 or 2 sponsored Ad's. It seems some folks have clicked on them an they turn out to be malware. So that's just how easy it is to get infected apparently!
You should do a video on how you could still get malware even though you have your VPN on.
And...... This is why I run a Adblocker... Thanks Google.... for being greedy and not vetting ANY of your ads...
thank you for the vid always educational and on point it does make me wonder can an info stealer obtain your info if you are not logged in and how easy is it to bypass 2FA
It would be great if you make a part 2 talking about how possible it is to get malware using a web browser **without** downloading anything as I originally thought that's what this video was about. I do realize it might be a more advanced topic though.
That depends on your definition of downloading, does adding a browser extension count as downloading?
If so then unless you are being hunted by governments and keep everything up to date its extremely unlikely, nigh impossible to get malware from a web browser without downloading anything.
To get malware without downloading anything requires a zero day vulnerability worth many millions. Such vulnerabilities are not used on normal every day people.
Omg never thinked google was so filled up with malware,im using basically my windows xp vm 8 hours a day with a really outdated version of malwarebytes,i hope im ok
If I did not have money for a supported version of Windows I would use Linux, and only run XP VM when I need to run Legacy stuff.
Why are you running an xp vm? Is your pc not strong enough for windows 10/11? Why the vm?
If money is the issue you can use win 10/11 without paying, you’ll just have a watermark on your screen.
If you don’t have any software restrictions, linux runs better on old hardware than modern windows versions. Linux mint is very simple and has a layout similar to windows.

As a home pc user, I don't ever use remote access. Will it be safer - if I should accidentally download malware - to turn off all Windows settings/services relating to remote access?
I don't think it does anything, since a RAT just does the remote access connection by itself iirc
If you get malware the best thing to do is remove your internet connection and turn off the PC immediately, make a install USB using a second computer and completely wipe your C drive before reinstalling Windows.
Those settings might help if someone or something on the network is trying to access your PC remotely to do malicious things (though there are other ways to do that as well, so it's not a guarantee). They won't protect against anything malicious you download and run since it's already on your computer and can handle giving the attackers remote access itself.
Just curious. Could you do the same for a linux dekstop?
Please make an updated video about trend micro
Corporations need to stop fighting adblockers if they allow ads that are literal malware links. Even if they don't knowingly allow it, malware ads getting through at all is unacceptable and proof that the average home user should view adblockers as a necessity.

1. Yes
2. You can’t imagine how easy it is for most people to get a malware… shaking my head.
As someone who do tech support, I can say: you would not believe what people a falling for. Older people these days are afraid of AI cloning the voice of their grand child to scam them on the phone. Meanwhile, when they see a curious post on Facebook or MSN, they click on it and then blaming their free antivirus for not stoping them from clicking on it and the 42 prompts asking for admin privileges.
If you've never seen anything like it before, yes. Isn't that obvious?

Ive been looking into alot of antimalware programs, but I cant make up my mind what to use. What antimalware would you reccomend for day to day work and gaming?
If you're running Windows 10 or 11, you don't really need anything more than Windows Defender. Generally speaking, as long as you keep the virus definitions fully up to date, and know not to click on suspicious links or download any potentially dangerous files, you should be fine.
Prior to Windows 10, it was usually necessary to install a separate anti-malware software, but Windows Defender has become functional enough that having another anti-malware running can actually just slow down your system, rather than be of any help.
@@pacicidal Windows defennder is fine if you use your brain, but most people don't. I would recommend getting DefenderUI to make windows defender not easy to bypass and actually able to catch basic ransomware, its not an AV it configures settings that already exist in defender but for some unknown reason are not accessible from its UI. If Google don't want people to use adblockers, perhaps they should vet the ads better, or at least make so if you search for a specific product then the first thing that appear will be the link to that products website, and not an ad.

Why only Google? You can do this with more engines plus wallpaper cave itself isn’t a problem
Yes WallpaperCave is a problem because they allow these malicious ads. They only care to exploit their users for advertising revenue, even if it's at the cost of their computer security.
Bing lists downloads for official sites as a big download button upon a search so the odds are dramatically lowered. Getting ads before the official site is a problem.
