Are you talking about The Big Bang Theory? if so, how would you explain the success it had all around the world and the top sit com in the USA for several years with billions of fans world wide. Are they wrong and you are right? I loved it from start to the best ever ending for a TV show. For me it was easily an equal to Friends. I loved both shows.
The dynamic between Granpi and CJ for me is comedy Gold.

Just think of the heights this would have reached if John Ritter hadn't passed away so early...rest in peace
they probably would have done a disney promotion show like all the other sitcoms they had at the time
I think it would have lasted five or six seasons like "Reba". I miss this family dynamic on entertainment nowadays... this sitcom in particular was very clever and Ritter pulled the wacky, worried, lovable dad like no one at the time.
I dont know about rest of the U.S.
This show, "According to Jim", "Less than Perfect" and "Im with Her" were the perfect quad comedy in early 2000s on prime time one night a week in a great 2 hour block of time.

I never did get to watch this show, but it looks great!
A few observations:
1. Paul Hennessy had 8 simple rules about his daughters because he remembered how guys like Jack Tripper and Larry Dallas were with other people's daughters.
2. Paul was a great TV dad.
3. James Garner filled in nicely as Grandpa after Ritter passed away.
4. Rory was hilarious. I wish I had 2 older sisters like he did to torment. But he was lucky to have them to help him get girls like hot Megan.

I miss this show so much. I havent watched it in a long time. I almost forgot how funny it is.
Bet if Ritter didn't pass, it woulda lasted 6 seasons or so. I wish it lasted longer with Garner and Spade as well!

I was reading through the comments, I've never watched "Three's Company" as most people here, this sitcom were my introduction to John Ritter... I started watching "8 Simple Rules" because of Katey Sagal and I kept watching because of John. The guy's comedy is timeless.

David spade and James Gardner were awesome and they did a great job continuing this show after the loss of Ritter
David Spade really helped keep this show on the air. I didn’t think it would be good after John Ritter passed but it is so good with CJ and grandpa.
This is a show that was equally great when they had to replace/add new characters.

Johns son in this show was one of the biggest smartasses ever in a TV sitcom. 😂 so sad with John passing far too soon, this show was just beginning to really take off for ABC. It was never the same after John. RIP John Ritter. 🙏

Life is never the same when someone dies, but it can still be sweeter - and life goes on...and the series did, as it should. I still like 8SR, R.I.P John Ritter 1948-2003, I even liked the idea when James Garner starred in the show as Jim Egan (Cate's dad and her kid's grandfather) with David Spade as C.J. Barnes (Cate's crazy nephew and her kids weird cousin) [Jim Egan's wacky grandson]. He's a weird actor I agree but all hates aside for him I still like the show even when it got cancelled.

Ritter was brillant. One thing that used to bother me and still bothers me on rewatches was how bad of a person Bridget was, her parents never made her face put to the consequences of her actions. Her jealousy when Kerry made the cheerleading squad and the time she teased Kerry about going to Princeton on a tennis scholarship she didn't deserve, with her mum refusing to vaccinate the teacher who wouldn't pass her because her work wasn't good enough to get to play and then having the nerve to ask Kerry to coach her through her test. She was really a horrible person and Kate was a terrible mother who never punished her for being a selfish narcissistic brat.

I gotta say i've never actually watched a full episode of this show but remember being surprised when I heard the "clifford voice" after watching 5 min of John Ritter talking loudly on here back in 2005. And found it weird seeing the grandpa and rustic david spade on the show and no clifford voice actor. This show seems very spicy and crude and I'm loving it! Also Mr Moseby as a cop at 25:35!
