Round 3 of the Risk Discord Tournament - FFA S2-2022

One thing I find interesting about these high level games is the amount of diplomacy there is even without verbal communication. It's like every move has a subtext that's hidden to those who don't often play or watch the game.
There's the raising, matching, or unguarding of borders, but also stuff like 38:15 to 38:32 "Interesting move by [Green], he's trying to bait [Blue] into.. trying to kill me"

I find the idea of only taking 70% of a fortress funny. It’s just like, “I want all this and you guys can have what’s left of that over there” or “well, actually I own 70% of this fortress snd so my say trumps your 30% say.”

@@TheKillPeteStrategy maybe. but it should really work like: Hold 70% at the beginning of your turn, instead of the end. That would be a lot more satisfying to everyone.

Yeah, I'm really not a fan of the 70% win condition. I know there is some chance in risk but it just feels way to weighted on chance because of the turn order. Whoever goes after the first kill just gets to insta win in most cases.

Imagine 400 years ago when you were playing risk that we would have like 50 + maps, the option to play things like caps, prog, fog and zombies all on a phone or computer app

That 70% victory was super lame. You and green both had more troops and easily would've wiped blue the next turn. Really dumb to see a game end that way.

It's not lame, perhaps not the most fun mode but it's an alright mode that forces you to play a bit differently. Good variation.

That game was a handout victory from magenta to blue, but anyways hopefully you have enough points to get to the next round, I would like to see Mr. Peteman in the finals, and is Cowboy not competing? It's weird not seeing him at the top of the points leaderboard 🤜

Cowboy is currently sitting at 40 pts. He's definitely in it.
Draumdansarn concluded that he would not be able to get any more points then by taking the bounty on Nuke. Once that happened the game fell like a string of dominoes.

If Draum thought that was the best play then it's totally fine in my opinion, it just sucks because it removed the chance for other players to play for the victory. @@HydraWerewolf The gamemode we played is 70% Domination, which means you only need to take 70% of the total territories on the map instead of 100%.

Can I ask why you defend from green in the bottom but not in the top? Why not just combine the two 21 stacks (38:30) in the bottom to have a stronger army? Is it to make sure you have SOME forces on the front line?

I'm interested in choking up the entire map so that no 1 person can chain a single kill into the 70%. So if there is nobody guarding a certain line then I have to.

@@TheKillPeteStrategy That makes sense but couldn't you combine the two 21 stacks into a 41 stack where the choke point was and have a stronger stack defending if either green or blue were to attack?

Question about the tournament with these settings. If there's 5 player left and someone gets the 70% do all the losing players gets points based off a tie for 5th or a tie for 2nd.

I love all the risk videos but 70% victory is a dumb mode imo. Who wins didn't have anything to do with skill this game.
