So the wires on the motherboard came out while was adjusting the joysticks, is there a way to replace them back on? I don’t see the metal wire part at the tips just the red and black wires
Great video, thanks for sharing. At 07:25, what are you spraying the board with, and is this step completely necessary? I'm trying to fix some controllers without spending any money on tools, and my school has just about everything needed except for cleaning solution.
I replaced my sticks on my controller, but my right stick won't reach full outer range when it's all fit back together. If I take off the trim ring around the joystick, it reaches just fine. I've replaced the joystick cap and the trim ring and it's the same thing. Any idea what's going on here?
Amazing skills! I accidently removed the left stick ribbon cable connector from the PCB :(. I tried to simply put it back in place but the left stick is not working anymore (there seems to be a lot if pins to align correctly within the connector). Do you happen to know if those ribbon cable connectors are also soldered to the motherboard? I can't believe I removed it so easily. Too bad I live in France, I wish you would repair my controller!
hey, great vid! I was wondering if the thumb stick would need to be calibrated after you make the swap, and if that would be done physically or by software. also what was the liquid you used to clean the pcb after you were done?
@@dackselectronicrepair thank you, one more question…do they work on all the DualSense controller versions? Specifically bdm 030 because all of mine with stick drift are that version
Removed useing a desolder iron could please tell me under blue part of alps analogs is the solder around the holes because is no solder around a few please reply
It really is a time sensitive repair. You have to get all solder in all the legs heated up at the same time so you can basically just drop the new stick into place and remove the heat right away. If you leave the hot air going for too long after you put the new stick in place you will melt the underside of it. A little melting won't hurt anything but too much will make it not work.
I would think any place that repairs phones and computers would be able to do this. The problem you may run into is that it will cost more to have them do it then just getting a new controller!
Not in this case but I suppose dirt could cause drift issues. However, it would be hard for it to get into the actual joystick as the the thumbstick covers mushroom over the mechanism which keeps almost all dirt out of it.
I use a Yihua 995D+ rework station. It has both hot air and a soldering iron. You can go way more expensive if you want but this one does everything I need. Here is a link to the amazon listing a.co/d/j47VnEU

Not sure what is going on. It could be the charging port or the battery. It is also possible the motherboard is bad and in that case you would just need to get a new one.
Hello, 4:35 on what temperature setting snd level of airflow do you use the hot air gun so that the plastic connectors for the ribons not to melt?
What temperature u used for soldering little wire red and. Black i burn my bored wire wont stick
Clean the pad and use flux. Also strip the wires back a bit so you are soldering wires not melting plastic.
So the wires on the motherboard came out while was adjusting the joysticks, is there a way to replace them back on? I don’t see the metal wire part at the tips just the red and black wires
You should be able to solder them back to where they go. Good luck!
flux can really help the solder flow more easily
Very true, I usually go crazy with the flux. Not sure why I didn't here!
Do you have to remove thre whole thumbstick assembly? I just want to replace the potentiometers
Yes you would. They are part of the assembly.
How did you get the new joystick components? Where can we buy them?
I get them through a wholesale supplier but they are on Amazon as well!
make sure you get the right ones for PS5 (2.1 or 2.3KΩ NOT 10KΩ)
It doesn´t matter how you connect the vibration motors, they only spin in the other direction
Yep

It is isopropyl alcohol. Not necessary with no clean solder but I like to clean it up.
I've never soldered before but i'd like to change my joysticks to hall effect joysticks what tools do you use do you have links?
I use a hotair rework station. You can get them on Amazon. It has a hot air gun and a soldering iron which are temp and airflow adjustable.

Are you using the stock joystick? Some of thr aftermarket ones or ones from a ps4 or xbox one are just a bit too big
No amount of heat gun is getting the old solder out any other advice?
Try using some flux and melt some leaded solder into the factory solder. That should lower the melting temp of the unleaded solder they use.
Amazing skills!

The ribbon cable retainer clip broke off?
Yes 😅 the plastic part pop off, but the internal metal pieces are still soldered to the motherboard
i can't find anything about it online
I am not sure where you can source one of those

Some of the legs don't have any solder on them? You can just use flux and solder the legs that don't have any.
My stick ist nit moving after replacment whats teh issue
It is hard to say. If the board was damaged it may not work. You got all the legs lined up and soldered in?
What is the tube thing used for deslodering ??
That is a solder sucker and it does just that; vacuum sucks the solder up into it!
Isn't 450c too high?
You have to go pretty high to get the leadfree solder to melt.
@@dackselectronicrepair If you were to apply low melt solder onto it before using the heat gun, would it be at a different temp or the same?
@@OKBUDDY21 Yes you can try that for sure. If you flux it and melt leaded solder it should melt at a lower temp on the hot air.
I've done this 4 times, two were successful, and the other two I ended up melting the underside of the analog stick...what am I doing wrong?

It doesn't have a brand name on it. Just search Amazon. They are all pretty similar.

Could the cause of the stick drift problem come from dirt buildup? That controller was absolutely filthy.

power of having great tools, I destroyed my controller using cheap solder gun. No hot air gun. Torn a trace off
I have messed up traces even with good tools. Remember to mix leaded with the factory non leaded solder so it lowers the melting temp.

I did not listen to the part about being carful with the plastic connectors and now half of one is black😂
That's not good, hopefully it is just a little toasted and not broken!
