this game was so absurdly fun. i put countless hours into it and still couldn’t tell you a single thing about the story.
NANOMACHINES, SON. Also as an adult the way the state-run news service is all-in at first but eventually abandons the narrative without mentioning it's own inconsistency is SPOT ON to real life.
Uh...actually I'm pretty sure the game is a love letter to Al Qaeda from THQ Nordic. An older, wise man in the desert who runs the terrorist faction tells you "make them spend enough and they'll go home", the game even has you specifically attack visiting defense-contract shareholders. When threatened you vanish into the desert or just blend into the local people...does any of it sound familiar?
The multiplayer was really fun too, you would start out with a map full of buildings and by the end of the match it was just rubble everywhere. So much fun.
@@Suiseisexy imagine that stragegy versus the third reich.
"They can not hunt us if we blend into the local population" -terrorist
"They can not hunt us if we blend the local population" - Nazis most likely
The game actually has a very powerful political message without being super overt about it, even as a kid I knew it actually had some depth
@@AnthonyDoesUA-cam "without being super overt about it" I mean I agree and I get what you mean, but the logo is pretty damn on the nose
Kevduit became one of my favorite youtubers so fast it’s impressive, I love this man comedy and way to talk about games
Same
Kev and oboe shoes are probably the best gaming creators in their "genre"
@@ivanpalombo1487 true
Same!! one of his videos just came on the other day after i watched a iron pineapple-playing souls like games u never heard vid and boom struck gold now kevduit is a staple
Same
This was one of the first open world games I played, and I had a blast destroying the environment. Thanks for the nostalgia Kev
Word
I know right one of the best games of it's time and the memories of the game are all good
So true
@@brandongraham8755 and even though the graphics don’t look like modern games, it still holds up pretty well
@@BigFella117 lol I wish I still had it
Red Faction was ahead of it's time with destructible environments in the first 2 games. Loved them to death. My buddy and I did bot matches all the time and would use explosives to dig tunnels around and below bases.
Red Faction 2 multiplayer maps were so good.
Shame Armageddon was a flaming pile of crap. Imagine red faction remade for today's consoles.
True but pony gun
@@ironicugandan5826 Just make the same game again. Dont even upgrade the graphics much, just the destruction system and its scale. Then add bigger multiplayer maps. Thats it.
@@zeallust8542 why wouldn’t you want the graphics updated when we easily have the technology for it available bruh
7:06 was perfect comedic timing
The beam to the face was just insult to injury. Perfection.
3:08 This game's engine needs to make a comeback, I miss this.
It’s almost like people forgot when devs actually innovated and gave af. Miss gems like this
Exactly. It's really sad what has happened anymore. Everything is just playing it safe
Yep.
Not many other open world combat games on mars, where’s the creativity
@@nousername2942lol it's what happens when spreadsheet pushers run dev companies
If you're interested in multiplayer let me know. We use a mod that balances weapons, adds more characters and custom maps
The voice actor of Dan seems to be everywhere, soldier grunts from Avatar the game, Npcs from Fallout:NV and now here
I wouldnt be suprised if his name was grunt.
Grunt was voiced by Steve Blum. Unless there is another character named Grunt who is voiced by Liam o Brian
He was also in prototype, he was THE video game voice actor back in 08
This STILL has the best damn destruction physics in any game imo.
Kinda makes you think how bad the gaming industry has become.
I'd say the finals in recent years does it better, but the fact that you can maybe point to exactly 1 game as competition is a damning inciditement in of itself.
This is one of my all time favorite games! I have many fond memories of sniping the wings off gunships with the nano-rifle and giggling as they spiraled into the ground. My favorite moment was when some late game mission told me to kill a bunch of people in a half finished skyscraper. Now I could have fought my way through the army of soldiers and tanks outside but I decided that was a suckers game. I climbed to the top of a nearby hill, sniped a few girders in the upper parts of the building, watched the building collapse in on itself, and then sniped the lone survivor crawling out of the rubble. No game since then has been nearly as satisfying.
Hell yes I remember this game, it's one of my favorites! Kind of a forgotten hidden gem
One of my absolute favourite games of all time. There was nothing quite like it at the time, and there has honestly been nothing quite like it since. I so desperately want a proper sequel to this game.
Same sadly that studio gone woke and terrible and now apart of gearbox
I honestly don't think a game like this would even be allowed to be made anymore.
@@nousername2942 yeah studio and especially publisher are against single player games that can't be mxt and don't want to put the time effort sadly into 1 or 2 good games now days which is sad state of gaming
Part 2: Kev discovers the Arc Welder, Thermobaric rockets, and that one mission with the dumptruck
To elaborate:
Tank Taser
Fatman
NSFL bowling animation
I hated that mission.
Towards the end of the game you get the "Nano Rifle" that just disintegrated objects, was so fun to use. I remember spending hours just running around taking out bridges with as many EDF on them as possible.
Don't forget the spots around the map with those black hole grenades. Those things were nuts
@@nousername2942 Singularity bombs!!
The day we get a new Red Faction game is the day i will find happiness
since Volition's Saints Row failed I feel quite strong they will return to this IP, it's been quite a few years now.
Right Armageddon was such a horrible game to go out on we need a red faction like sequel.
@@GGA007Gaming I actually really liked it, even if they could have done more with the story. it felt much more like the first game which is my favorite.
@@Based_Stuhlingerthe problem with Armageddon is it wasn’t free roam like red faction guerrilla.
@@nickwebb9937 Well, I would have a game like the first that tells a more coherent linear story than an open world one imo.
To me Red Faction was that game where the free roam was so incredibly fun, to the point that the story was the last thing I wanted to do
-Do you remember Red Faction:Guerrilla?
-Yes
-Can you tell me about it?
-Hammers can do a lot of damage.
Also gun that melts thing is cool
I remember never actually owning this game but playing the demo for hours on end just destroying stuff in various different ways
Only thing i remeber is destroying things dont know if i owned the game or not i was like 6 maby 8 i just remeber driving giant cars though bulding and the falling it was fun thats the only thing i remeber
One of my favorite open world game, still replay it yearly.
red faction: you can have ONE melee weapon
mason: *pulls out comically large melee weapon*
For the love of God please Kevduit keep playing this 🤣 the endgame areas are so elaborate and cool
Played the original red faction back in 2004 an absolutely Lovely experience and why we as the working class must rise.
The message of these games was so on point for being a game. No way they'd allow that anymore in the AAA environment
This was my childhood game the unlimited destruction was unmatched at the time
It is STILL unmatched. That's how stupid the gaming industry is.
This game is one of the best of its generation. Please do one more. You HAVE to get to the antimatter rifle. You'll love it.
I remember in multilayer, you could damage a building, and it would be fine. Stick around though, and a few minutes later, a window might break. A few minutes later, several, might suddenly break. Then later - Bang, Everything collapsed. That was so impressive - it kept assessing the stress on structural integrity as time passed, and any significant weakness would, in time, affect the overall structure, and ultimately it might tear itself apart. Brilliant tech.
I replayed this a few weeks ago, driving EDF trucks through buildings is so satisfying. Don’t forget the billboards.
He didn't even get to the Disintegration Rifle in this video. Man I cannot wait for that one.
Damn, I remember when you were teaching me how to tank in ESO and now you're playing my favorite childhood game. You're the man Kev
This was one of my favorite games when it first came out back on older consoles. The whole world being destructible along with the nano rifle made this game great for it's time.
Yoo, Red Faction was my childhood. I used to love blowing everything up. Love your videos Kev.
One of my favorite games from my childhood
Kev plays games like we all use to as kids. Pure chaos and enjoyment.
holy shit dude. i SO VIVIDLY remember playing this game. this was probably the first game that I legit poured hundreds of hours into. this was the first full fledge destruction model i ever experienced and it BLEW my mind. BLEW IT. at one point I actually destroyed every single structure on the map...and if you played then you remember that those buildings never respawned lol needless to say after a while my map was a literal wasteland.
So happy this game is starting to get proper coverage, we need a bigger expanded playground but who knows if that'll happen.
This game was an underrated gem of my childhood.
Such a shame they didn't keep making them a game like this on new hardware
Enjoyed how you could tell which section of the map you were in just based off the atmosphere and the cars driving by.
fun fact, this game takes place in the same universe as Saints Row
This was one of my favorite games when I was little, I just loved the destruction. I haven't played the sequel because people told me they toned it down a lot, but I never fact checked that or if I did I forgot
The first time I played this game after renting it from blockbuster at the ripe age of 9 and a half years old, the first thing I did was drop that tower (2:38) onto the building by accident and immediately fell in love obsessively with this game and made it my mission to destroy every single thing in the game to the best of my young ability in the most insane ways possible, causing explosives to roll into buildings, throwing at least 10 c4s onto vehicles and charging into occupied bases to blow up HQs, using the destentigrator gun to destroy JUST the supports on buildings with great precision. I believe this game alone is why I love the game Teardown so much
This game was one of my best childhood memories.
Thank you for plying red faction this game was a huge part of my child hood and holds a special place in my heart also love the vids
It's cool to know people are talking about this game still, and I think I might continue my playthrough of the game on youtube.
Another game that had great destruction is mercenaries just imagine being able to call in nuke air strikes to destroy buildings or rain hellfire missiles down on a target from a chopper
love how he get knocked out from bullets when his brother dies while not actually taking a single bullet, video game logic at its finest
22:03 omfg the absolute depression in that tone of voice lmao I'm crying.
But yeah I played this years ago and though I kind of A.D.D.'d my way out of finishing it, just running around blowing stuff up was a delight. This game was a *Video Game* first above all else, which made it so awesome.
Beat this game recently and it was tons of fun. I played original game, and not remastered, and had to dig in to it's files a little bit to make it work on Windows 10, but it worked and I beat the game. The destruction of buildings in this game is crazy, especially when you taking down a huge building. Like, just setting up some explosives, ran away in to the distance and do explosion and watch the building collapse is VERY fun. Or you can take a car and ram through the building on full speed, watching it crumble behind you. It is very fun. All tho the open world in this game are too empty and it is too small, so there is nothing to explore and to see there. So I wish that it were big enough to have fun with little exploration. There is also airplanes, but you can't fly them sadly. So yeah, the only things that this game lacks is good open world and more possibilities. Everything else is fun.
Bought the game just before this video was released, one of the best games I’ve played in a long time
i remember putting all my charges on a track, busting in a building with it and then blow the thing sky high being one of the most glorious things in this game
I remember playing this on Xbox loved it to death destroying everything
I’m pleased to say that you’re the reason that I have even more games on my backlog to get, your enthusiasm is contagious! ^-^
@Ryo Cascade Oooo, I do remember playing an iOS AVP game way back in the day but I’ll definitely give that game a shot one day!
Seeing this vid pop up almost made me emotional. This game IS my childhood
I think my favorite thing about your videos is you use the Orlais Theme for like all I’ve them and it’s one of my favorite video games songs
Kev became one of my top 5 favorites on the entire site, basically overnight. Seems like the kind of person you'd wanna hang with.
Honestly my favourite red faction game, the destruction physics were amazing
So quick fun fact about this game and Saint's Row they were both made by Volition and both have the antagonist being a Megacorp called Ultor
I remember as a kid when TV first started featuring Video game ads one of them was some game awards show and I specifically remember the section was Environment interaction and I only remembered 2 games on the list, force unleashed and a segment where a woman was talking about how grenades could tear holes in the ground, I think that it was red faction but it's been nearly 15 years so I don't know
I am so glad I found you a few months ago. You have provided many hours of entertainment since. A few games I recommend that I for some reason am having a nostalgic trip of currently are hulk 2003 (of the movie with Eric Bana) , war of the monsters , and any twisted metal game (though black would probably suit your video style better). But anyways keep it up ! We are entertained !
Dude, I'm in Texas. I was not prepared for that opening, nearly spit out a drink with a laugh I could barely hold back.
You are absolutely not incorrect. Heck, even the government on mars ain't far off from here.
The second I saw the title I smiled so much. I remember playing this so many years ago and damn it was fun.
Played every Red Faction game back to back and I believe the first game is the most destructible, I think you could make tunnels.
I played that game years ago and seen this brings back so many memories
3:35 "My character went to the school of running away from large falling objects" ...But didn't graduate, because the last thing you want to do is trap yourself in another building that is possibly within distance to be crushed by the collapsing building you are trying to escape lol
Red faction guerrila is one of my favorite games of all time.
I have watched enough Kevduit videos to know that, when he did Red Faction, that this would be good. So good. Letting Kev loose in a fully destructible environment? Only good can come of this.
this game was seriously one of my top games back then. This is like Saints Row but you can destroy stuff, it's like Just Cause but you can destroy MORE stuff and it's like Teardown but it won't destroy your pc the moment you start having fun.
KEVDUIT, if you're interested in covering it we still play multiplayer and use a mod that adds more playable characters, custom maps, and weapon balancing
You may not remember Red Faction but Pepperidge Farms remembers
I loved how when you'd smash a structure to the point of collapse there was a pause then you'd feel the rumble before your controller went crazy from the destruction, great game. 👍🏿👍🏿
made me wanna play this game again and its only 4$ cad on steam
Kev: This building is not up to code. Building: Ok *pops out of existence*
literally, the late 2000's to early 2010's birthed some of the most awesome game mechanics that game devs never used again, like, metal gear rising revengeance introduced freeflow slicing to the world, and it was so badass that every other sword game is now worst because they DON'T have it.
I remember playing this back in the days, and destroy everything, disintegrating EVERY. LAST. DESTRUCTIBLE OBJECT in the entire game. Can't remember how much it took me to do it, but, was fun.
In a way, it was a step backwards from Red Faction 1 and 2. I mean, the multiplayer apparently doesn't even have bots, which was a feature both previous entries had.
"Why do the in-game graphics look better than the cutscenes do?"
That's usually how games work, Kev.
That vehicle flipping bit could be a game on its own!!!! 😂
Ahh i remember this game, and probably contrary to many i also remember its multiplayer. There was nothing better than going on a killing spree with my flamingo sledgehammer and caving heads in through walls. The MP was actually surprisingly fun, to me at least.
we need part2, and i miss this game soooooo bad... my first addictive game other than destiny as a kid
the fact i can say as a kid though *even destiny 1* is only 2014, good time absorbing games truly are one or two in a decade
“I forgot this is a physics-based game” No Kev, it’s an explosion-based game
Yo I remember playing this whenever my cousin got bored and let me play I cannot count how many cave in killed me
Red Faction games were a blast back in the day. I remember flipping vehicles , loading the bottom full of bombs, then you drive through walls and detonate, somehow surviving😆
Mr torgue: "This is Mr torgue and I have 1 question and 1 question only...EXPLOSIONS!?"
3:34 The Prometheus school of running away from things
Heck I remember Red Faction: Armageddon too.
Somewhat underrated imo. the gravity gun and rematerializer gun made for some very fun moments.
I like how the Earth Defence Force is defending earth in force in mars, some would say agrresively.
I loved this game so much on PS3, it was dirt cheap in the discount bin and I had no idea what it was so I picked it up and I was blown away, typically whenever I bought discount games or things I hadn't heard of they ended up being pretty weird but this game was definitely a hidden gem for me
So many memories unlocked, can’t believe I forgot about this game for the longest time. An all time classic yet probably still heavily underrated!
Big pat on the back to the devs absolutely loved this game thanks guys.
The long and tedious effort it takes to bring materials to Mars to house humanity and all it takes to undo decades of slow development and gagillions of dollars is one man and a hammer
3:37 It's called the Prometheus school for running away. Sincounter: 1
7:06 Ezma (Emperor's New Groove) be like..
16:17 It was at this moment that Kev knew..
This game was absolutely a lot of fun.. It has a "Re-Mars-tered" edition that is available on the Xbox One (and Series) consoles.. One of my favorite "games" to play in it is "Find the Load-Bearer" where we make it as unstable as we possible could (yes, it has multiplayer) before it inevitably collapses.. Then, we would rebuild the structure and do it again.. Even though the "goal" of the game mode was Deathmatch, we mostly ignored each other and had fun destroying the map.. Our favorite map was the one we called "Forbidden Bridge" where there is a massive destructible bridge over an instant death pit.. We called it "Forbidden Bridge" because of the board game of the same name and the fact we kept making it unstable.. There is a "weapon" called the Reconstructor that rebuilds most destroyed objects (primarily structures) that we always had set as a default "weapon" so we could always rebuild after having fun breaking everything.. In fact, thinking about it makes me want to see if I still have it installed..
This game really makes you FEEL like a guy on mars with a sledge hammer.
What a way came to be with Volition, from awesome games like Red Faction Guerrilla and also a big chunk of Armageddon, to the mockery that was Saints Row 2022. And honestly it's true that Red Faction Guerrilla is a good stress relief therapy alternative, nothing more awesome that wrecking everything with every tool at your disposal hahahaha while laughing like a maniac.
Ah, Red Faction, the game that made me laugh out loud at driving a semi covered in explosives into a major refinery.
Fable 2 is so underrated a game where as a kid you can kick chickens talk to people and if your very bad you get devil horns if your good you get a halo please play the game
Honestly I forgot this game existed thanks for reminding people about it
I love the red faction franchise. Really a forgotten gem.
Red Faction Guerrilla is one of my favorite games of all time. The gameplay is fantastic and the destructible, open world makes for so many amazing and organic moments.
I haven’t watched the whole video yet, but Red Faction one and two were a lot of fun, and Guerrilla was incredible too!
Getting this game on switch was my best decision for Christmas it holds up so well
Never had more fun playing a game. Especially the multiplayer!! The game really opens up once you get the jetpack.
If you're interested we play multiplayer weekly with a mod that adds more playable characters, custom maps and weapon balancing
really miss playing this game back then
