- Today we're taking Oliver Queen and putting him in Dungeons & Dragons! If you want your arrows green, this is a lean mean build for D&D 5e!

Could change a few levels and get levels in Hexblade Warlock. Pact of the Blade, Improved Pact Weapon and turn the bow into the Pact Weapon, and have Eldritch Blast as the Boxing Glove arrow.

It is a good build, but is missing a lot of the trick arrow elements. I thought he was going to go arcain Archer to cover that, but he went champion.
I felt that “what if we had a nice Superman” so hard.
I forgot how um..."suggestive" those Dinah/Oliver scenes used to be in the animated series.

if it where 100 years a go a bow would still be a eccentric weapon choice, like guns have been fairly common for the last 200 or so years
Green Arrow, the guy has a chili to die for (only Batman can eat it and keep a stone face). That and, much like Iroh, has a side-kick he somewhat trained, and rolls the same way he does (there is no Arsenal in Ba Sing Se, only Red Arrow).
Uncle Iroh build, because I'm sure the third-aged man could trade advice involving positive social reform with the emerald archer.
Edit: Also, with the special kryptonite arrow, Supes will be the one in the krypt tonite... get it?

A lot of people in the comments are talking about race/class options that Tulok has already done. Well, I’ve got one that he definitely hasn’t done before: variant human. Never, have I EVER seen him use variant human, which is ridiculous. I mean, come on Tulok, let’s see some variant humans out there!

I browsed the shopping list in a few D&D books that included shopping lists, and ended up with a list of arrow heads, shafts, and fletchings that can be mix and matched for a total of 3600 possible arrow combinations

Arrowheads are easy to think through. Make a successful skill or proficiency check and you can craft your own custom arrowheads. For the most part I went with functionality, and ignored base material differences. Who cares if your arrowhead is made out of this rock instead of that rock? But if the material was particularly significant, like adamantine, obsidian or silver, I did list those as separate "functions". In total I had 37 types of arrowheads. For shafts, I largely considered stability in flight and potential deployment of additional projectiles. There were 14 possible shafts, though a couple of those technically required you to forage for resources rather than directly purchasing them. (Based on the plants known to grow along the Sword Coast) For the fletching, I wanted it to be easy to identify an arrow sticking out of a quiver so that you can grab the arrow you want without having to closely examine each one before knocking it. Dying the feathers helps, but the arrangement of the feathers adds another layer of distinction whether you want it to be fanned out, tri-layered, helical, or flu-flu. And I found that some plants have useful properties that could be implemented in fletchings, either for their aroma or for their thorns. Make sure to wear gloves when grabbing your arrows! I strongly considered types of ropes to use in Grappling arrows, but Protean Silk is really the only way to go. 10 base types of fletching that can each be dyed various colors for visual distinction. I have the full list with coin costs and general descriptions on paper.
I might have misdone the math on my original post. Assuming you DON'T dye the fletchings different colors, that would be 5180 possible arrow combinations.

I'm surprised you didn't trade one ability increase for the Feat which lets you choose two battle master Maneuvers for some trick shots like Disarming Attack or any of the others which don't require a melee weapon.
Or instead of the defense fighting style. When he said he was going fighter, that's what I was expecting. And 3rd level battlemaster, not champ

I'll admit that I was fully expecting an arcane archer fighter/monk build. Tulok always subverting expectations and impressing.
I don't get why Green Arrow is such a successful superhero, meanwhile my OC Verdant Pointing Symbol hasn't even come CLOSE to hitting the big time :/

Nope. Way of the Hand monk, at least to level 6, then fighter the rest of the way. Vic trained with Richard Dragon and is a Kung Fu expert (but not a master). His detective skills are really just him nosing around. No need for rogue at all. If you want to replicate his smoke cloud, you could get it with magic initiate and take fog cloud. Or a level in sorcerer, maybe. If you do go sorcerer (shadow, probably), get disguise self as well, to replicate his faceless mask. @7, when you go fighter, either take unarmed fighting or better yet, blind fighting. Unarmed would bring you up to 1d8 for your UAS, but blind would allow you to fight in your fog cloud without penalty.

You already did J'onn, black canary, "shazam" green lantern (just put cha at 6 and hes guy gardner) and Bruce, Add Blue and Gold and you basically have the JLI, the BEST era of justice league
Blue Beetle is seriously underrated, he's probably my favorite DC superhero.
Tbh, I'd be happy with either Ted or Jaime.
Ted would be an artificer and Jaime would be a warlock

@hasthehighground8560 I know this is a super late comment, but I think you could argue both jaime and Ted would be artificers. Jaime would definitely be an armorer, and Ted could either be an artillerist (to incorporate his flash/sonic gun) or Battle Smith (To get enlarge on a steel defender and make his bug ship.)
super happy to see this! JL:U was my first superhero cartoon as a kid, and really made me love green arrow :)
I was kinda hoping he'd focus more on CWs adaptation of Green Arrow. He's one of the best hand to hand fighters in the Arrowverse, so I would've replaced the fighter levels with monk so he could take full advantage of DEX and WIS and use unarmored defense.
While that's true, his gimmick arrow selection was a little limited imo. I like Ollie to have gimmick arrows that are unique and interesting and just a little bit stupid...
Although I STRONGLY disagree that he should have focused on the Green Batman more, comics Oliver is also a good hand to hand fighter, I would personally take 2 levels in fighter and switch defense for unarmed fighting style and just take 1 monk level.
@@Gabe600 but unarmed fighting is kinda redundant when you already have martial arts and high dex. Unarmed fighting uses strength i believe.
@@kimanirobinson790 actually If you have martial arts and unarmed fighting style your unarmed attacks deal 1d8 insted of a d4 AND you stil can use dextery insted of strength and make one unarmed attack as a bonus action, they are actually a great combo together especially if you don't plan on taking a lot of levels in monk.
Arrow!Oliver is probably just a Fighter/Rogue: like omechron said, he doesn't really do much of the trick arrow stuff, and spells to represent the spread of weird arrows are most of the reason to go Ranger instead of leaning on one of the pure martial classes in the first place. With the heavier focus on Fighter, you can just go Champion and get both Archery and Unarmed Fighting on one class, with Rogue bolstering the totally-not-Batman "just really good at all sorts of stuff" deal, as well as the damage output.
Just watched this and re-watched the hawkeye video. to very different and very effective archers.

Yeah, a nice Superman would be nice. 😼 I mean I know things become antiquated but I feel like they pretty much nailed it with Christopher Reeve and later on with the animated adventures. I'm becoming concerned about his friends to be honest, as I don't think Bruce has been the best influence on him lately.

Maybe you ought to do James Garner's character in "Support Your Local Sheriff" / "Support Your Local Gunfighter". James comes into town, either on his way to Australia, or to get away from a woman he's not in love with, and gets a job as the Sheriff/Gunfighter, befriends the Town Character, cleans up the town, and gets the girl.
I see his characters as dexterous Rogue/Fighter sorts, with a decent Charisma modifier at any rate - needs Deception, Perception, Persuasion, Athletics or Acrobatics, and possibly Animal Handling. Needs Crossbow Expert, or the Gunner Feat (setting dependent of course).
Overall, James' characters like to employ the art of Bluff, and Double Bluff, as they hate to use violence, but when they must, they're deadly accurate, and quick on the draw.
So glad to see "Support Your Local Sheriff" get some love!!

Hey Tulok, I really love the work you have put into these videos and characters and I have taken inspiration for one of my current dnd characters because of your videos. I wanted to ask and see though if you are still gonna be doing Star Wars builds since if I’ll be honest, your Star Wars builds are my favorite (second is DC) but if you are that would be exciting to me. If not I understand of course but I thought I would put this out there anyways

Edit: I did, I missed the +1 from the Piercer feat. Also, great build! I feel like the CW Green Arrow might be more of a gloom stalker/Rogue build, but it's one definitely fits the comics to a G!

incredibly surprised no one has pedantically corrected "volley" missing the joke.
Speaking of pedantic corrections though, ensnaring strike feels like a better fit than entangle, since his bolos and whatever are always inflicted by being hit with an arrow.
I think that both Green Arrow and Hawkeye are pretty neat. Sure, they can be seen as just less brooding Batman with a bow, but I've always liked the superheroes who fight with their own gadgets and tools while everyone is running around with superpowers.

Green arrow helped kill darksied once in an alternate timeline. It was mostly ray Palmer riding a photon into his head and stomping his brain that did the job.
Great video as usual! But I would have gone Battle Master for fighter to be able to do things like disarm, push and trip people with the arrows.
I came across this video while playing around with creating a Green Arrow inspired archer. I haven't played it yet, but this is the build I'm tinkering with (all from PHB):
Race: Variant Human
Class: Fighter
Fighting Style: Archery
Martial Archetype: Battle Master (PHB 73)
Feats: Sharpshooter, Piercer (TCoE, which I didn't know about until watching this video)
Battle Master gives access to maneuvers to disarm, distract, push, and trip your target with your shots, among others, which I think fits with the trick shot aspect of Green Arrow.
I should note that I'm partial to Mike Grell's Green Arrow, so I modeled this build after it. If you get a chance to play this build, I hope you enjoy it!
Okay this is definitely a pet peeve of mine it's not an issue ignore me, but Superman does not have a weakness to magic. At least no more than anyone else. He just doesn't have any baked in resistances to it like he does...everything else. It's not that he's weak to it, just that he is only as vulnerable to it as anyone else would be.

Green Arrow is pretty much focused exclusively on bows for his weapons. However, he's also good with every other projectile type of weapon (lances, axes, and both types of magic) to represent his trick arrows. He's weak in only flight.
He's a run-of-the-mill archer in terms of stats: great dexterity and luck, bad HP and defenses.

when I saw the stats I was thinking kensei monk for magical weapons and defense (even in the background video he is in melee with at least two of the better martial artists), with rogue for sneak attack and reliable talent, maybe samurai for more attacks, but seeing the build in total I see my idea would not give his trick arrows. Nice build Tulok.

I'd prolly go with Champion on GA; For Archery, Unarmed Combat and Improved Critical. And maybe some levels on Bard for some of his trick arrows and Jack of All Trade (Oliver's not really bad bad on anything; Guy is charismatic, can lead a company and defend himself in court).
But as Ollie himself had admitted he is not talented as he can only properly shoot at straight shots; He said that his sister is way better than him, being able to bounce arrows around like Hawkeye from Marvel. He specifically says that he doesn't calculate shots, he shoots instinctively (Prolly because he trained in the wilderness); So he can accurately shoot the moment something moves, but will struggle against those that will use cover.
I would love to see Booster Gold and original Blue Beetle builds. What a sad duo. 😂
I'm dissapointed by the lack of Catapult spell for the boxing glove arrow, otherwise the build looks great
If stats are rolled, and they’re better than these, Artificer Initiate would be a good feat to take. Maybe guidance as the cantrip for the times he’s taking the time to aim key shots.

He doesn't usually do the same build multiple times and he did the arcane archer thing with another archer

@@randomim42 if we’re being game accurate then they’d be General support character with 1 or two high level attacks or if we’re smash bros accurate then a bunch of low tier spells with like meteor swarm or something idk
@@benduford3746 I dont know, Ness's regular attacks are the best in the Earthbound game so I feel like he should have some sort of martial class backbone. I feel like you'd have to base him off his actual game dont you? Plus he has some very good attack spells, not just his buff/debuffs. He doesn't get starstorm omega so maybe not meteor swarm, starstorm a is probably melfs minute meteors.

You could use unarmed fighting for the fighter fighting style. You used some brawling fighting scenes in there somewhere to justify it.
