Most amazing thing about this video isn't the guitar, it's the man. Today is George Benson's b-day, March 22, and he is 69 years old today. That man looks nothing close to just shy of 70 years old. He looks closer to early 40's, if that. Wow!!
I couldn't resist his invitation to join the lgb300 party and ordered one without trying one out trust me, it is exquisite. GB sure didnt tell a lie that time lol.
Looks like a L4 GB version made by Ibanez masterbuilders. I played this guitar today from a friend of mine and it is a wonderfull instrument, and the string spacing makes it very nice to play chord melody.
The acoustic sound is quite pleasing and mellow and plugged in the neck pickup captures a very well rounded ballanced tone just cutting some treble on the amp the guitar starts sounding like those jazz records. Finish is insanely good, the pickguard binding and burst alone are better than most "comon" archtops, the inlays are at the finest level that any custom shop can deliver. (Even thou I'm happy playing other guitars and I'm looking for a 18" acoust archtop, felt compelled to coment and reiterate the pleasure I had playing such a wonderfull instrument.)
I've noticed that he uses clear tape to tape up the f holes on several concerts on that guitar. What does that do sorta darkens the tone slightly? On his absolute benson concert i seen it.
I wonder what my heavy metal riffs would sound like on this guitar? lol I would imagine quite different. I always keep an open mind when it comes to other types of music. You never know when a technique will appear and be relevant to your type. Like Alex Skolnick crossing hard rock/metal and jazz together. Always learn from the greats, like George Benson of Joe Satriani. Both brilliant in their own way.
The thought behind this guitar actually isn't THAT new. Even from 1978 on Ibanez already offered a full body version, the GB20 which was a full body guitar with just the neck pickup. then during the late eighties/ early nineties came the GB-5 which again was a full body guitar but this time with twin Humbuckers. and in the late late nineties early 2000's there was the GB200 which is actually a very similar guitar to the one George is displaying here, only with a shallower cutaway.
Sounds more like a random shitty AMP that was provided by Namm. It's the AMP that determines most of the guitar's overall tone. In another clip on this same event, even Benson seemed leery of that amp.
I checked Musicians friend - nothing. I Googled - nothing, but one other GB design was $3100. now the comment he said was gotta getcha one of these. ya well for THAT kind of $ not in THIS economy. nice piece of equipment but with it being sig series and the Ibanez name on it, that puppy is gonna cost. maybe if I win the lottery.
Ibanez, & Gibson , and other brands have been making these unaffordable guitars for about 1000 years. Look around, there are other more reasonably priced guitars that can get the sound with a bit of tweaking. I'm 70 years old and have never been able to afford one of these guitars, these makers are having a laff, there can't be more than a hundred dollars worth of wood and wire in any of them. I think Ibanez & Gibson are eloquent purveyors of daylight robbery, they're both involved in a guitar business, keep the shareholders happy, war. Who the fuck wants to sound like George Benson anyway? there's no point to that, he's an innovator. He's the only one that can sound like him. Everybody with these instruments sounds kindo' the same anyway, so find your own voice. Peace & Love frae Scotland
What a classy dude. A true musician.
Was lucky enough to bump into him at a small jazz club in NY. Asked for an autograph and he was very nice and gracious. Super cool cat! Monster player
Been with Ibanez longer than anyone I think. Been at least 30 years. The 30th anniversary model is amazing.
I have the GB 200 and I´m quite pleased with it.
Oh my God, I love George Benson, I never knew he played an Ibanez though! Love him even more now, hahaha.
What a character...gotta love George!
Thank you for playing
George benson. What would we do without you?
Such a legend! And love that guitar!

A testament to his lifestyle
Really lovely, great choices made here!!!☆
I couldn't resist his invitation to join the lgb300 party and ordered one without trying one out

you try to play at lightning speed ?......you wrote the book on it !....no doubt one of the best guitarists of all time !!
LGB, Little George Benson! Mona Lisa~. been his fan about 40years. Great guy. can't live without his music.
George Benson "trying" to play at lightnings speed. The legend also memes a lot.
Holy cow...
Can't believe I never knew this until now. I think I might have to buy this guitar.
i Loved the guitar
Yes, mister Benson. Anything you want mister Benson.
Bro he is such a good salesman lol ❤️😂
I've noticed that he uses clear tape to tape up the f holes on several concerts on that guitar. What does that do sorta darkens the tone slightly? On his absolute benson concert i seen it.
Paul Gilbert also picked that up from George Benson and turns he uses tape on the f holes to reduce feed back.
@@johnnylikestobatman oh...ok.
Excellent!! Beautiful and boutique- guitar. But I need one pin for my strap, in The same Way than mr. George Benson, a jazz legend.
Sure George, I buy it one day because of you...
Can you hear the difference in the LGB30 and LGB300? I can't.

He is quite skilled
The LGB30 is $1100 with Case...excellent value for spruce, maple, ebony and mahogany these days.
uh, the LGB300 is more like $3600 US with case. You are thinking of the Chinese LGB30, the LGB300 is Japanese made
Yeah..the “made in China” part made me say “no thanks”.
The LGB30 is Indonesian with Mr Benson's full endorsement as an affordable great playing/tonal Jazz box!
1:41 Yea, sure, George.
Nice.
wow he is the best masquerade
"My name is George Benson." That was one of the most obvious things that I ever heard.
Just try to find one.
Yes I did :P
I want one but it’s sooooo expensive
Buy a Hartwood Novella....put thomastik innfeld swing 12 on It! For less than 300 euro's! Bone nut, wide. Body 16 wide, 4 inch thick!
Please come out with a jet blue left handed GB10 for under 800.00 Ibanez! I will buy it asap !
"Clarity and separation of notes" lol, i think that's a lot more to do with you, than the instrument..
OMFG!
So was i, i recently bought an epiphone dot studio and put emg's in it :P
good one :D :)

EMG's are horrible on hollow body's...
Every time I see LGB, it makes me think it means Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual. Oh 2012.

he was joking even worse for jazz no dinamics :)
Needs EMGs. haha
