Hi Bobby K! I moved into a 1954 2 story- kind of a Cape Cod design, and need help all over but choosing the front for the contest. Love your channel! 💚 from Middletown PA!
The reason I love your channel is because as an automotive mechanic I look at things very linear and square. It's hard for me to vision natural flow and curves so you help visualize things much much better. Ty!
That last one is exactly what I've been trying to figure out--how much space to cut out between the house and the edge. Those Arborvitaes seemed squashed up close to the house as well as the bush you pointed out. Another great video!
Wow, I am so happy I discovered you! You are so right, there's a bunch of channels about landscaping but none about why's and how's. Thank you so much. I wonder if you have anything about sloppy backyards and shady backyards 🤔
Glad to have you Lina!!! YES!!! I’m going to have lots of transformational videos coming out this year where you’ll see the before, the design, and the after. You’re gonna love it! Stay tuned.
I love your designs, it has really helped me to show how less is actually more My first instinct is to pack in more shrubs/trees but in reality it just looks messy Thank you for showing different examples
I was about to make the 3rd mistake around the deck... That shows how lost I am designing my backyard .. .. Now, I feel so lucky I saw this video. .. You are really helpful, Thanks. By the way, your kids are lucky having such a loving father.. Good bless your family.
@david petro thank you David. It wasn’t so obvious to me at first and then I was like, “Why do they even need a retaining wall?” Thank you for watching!
I’m entered in your drawing. Oh, do we need the help. I’m overwhelmed with the thought. Your videos have been so helpful in giving us a new perspective. Red mulch, did that 🤦🏻♀️ now I know better LOL
I recently discovered your channel. I have been watching multiple videos to get great ideas on what could be possible with my yard. The best take-away for me from this video is that I do not need to have a retaining wall, or a fancy mow strip either. I look forward to learning more and improving my yard.
Thanks for the videos! I love the fun, relaxed presentations and that you say that you have made all the mistakes yourself. It helps to see why something just doesn't look right!
Omg!!!! I’m literally screaming with excitement. I hope someway somehow I make the pick. 🥲 I have been watching so many of your videos to try and incorporate lessons learned into my outdoor space.
Today I pulled the weeds out from between the pavers of my front walkway. Now visitors don’t have to machete their way to my front door. Feeling pretty good about the improvement.
Very good tips on what to avoid. I’ve enjoyed your videos a lot and found them extremely helpful when we were designing our front yard! Still stumped on my backyard but have some ideas thanks to you!
I’m so happy that the videos have helped you! You can always keep me in mind for the backyard if you need a design. Keep watching and I’m sure you’ll start to see some things that you can utilize for your backyard space.
Thank you for encouraging the natural border edges around beds. I don't like the look of artificial retaining walls, but the clean, natural edge would definitely work with just about any plan.
You are speaking to me! I've definitely pondered making these mistakes(and more). Good thing I'm indecisive and haven't committed any yet. 🤦🏻♀️ Busy binging your channel!
Ugh and the retaining wall one is soooo bang on, its what everyone has recommended so far in our narrow yard and it hasn't sat right with me. All squished up
I love your videos! Thank you for your helpful tips and great designs. I have been struggling with my backyard design and your videos have been SO HELPFUL!!! thank you for your practical ideas...and thought process for the future of your designs.
Your channel has been such a great help while trying to figure out what to do for our landscaping and garden ideas. My husband and I just moved into our first house. We just finished redoing the front landscaping of our house. Now we are trying to figure out what do with our backyard area, since it is pretty much a blank canvas. So I have been looking to your channel for inspiration. You have so many useful hints and ideas. I love how you incorporate and suggest different spaces around a yard to help people navigate and use their space to the best.
Aww your daughter is too cute. My oldest just turned for and he’s learning to fake it for attention too….and it’s rubbing off on my 2 year old😩💁🏾♀️. I love what you said about having a live edge instead of stone or some other manufactured item. I’m a big fan of organic vibes and stone makes things a little too manicured. So there’s that and all I can picture is my boys running around, and cracking their nugget on a stone😬. I would love your take on how to handle some pain points I have in my backyard (mainly) and my front yard. I don’t know if your contest is over as this video is 3 weeks old. I will certainly sign up for your newsletter and will stay connected. Love your videos!
I appreciate the content you put out there. I have learned a lot about landscaping since I started watching you. If you have the time, would you mind going over a prairie garden xeriscape style? It's really popular here in Colorado.
I just recently found your channel and love how fun and informative it is. It’s fascinating to examine landscaping through the eyes of a professional. On some of your examples when I look at it, I know I don’t like it but can’t pinpoint why. Then once you explain the design issues it becomes an “of course!” moment. Thanks for sharing your talent.
Love to learn from other peoples mistakes, sometimes you can look and realize you don't like something but you are not sure why. Thanks for pointing out what SHOULD BE obvious once we know what is wrong with the picture. I have entered the contest and look forward to seeing what you can do with 7000ft elevation in Colorado with house we purchased that was 16 years old and never had any landscaping. We have red rock formations between the front of the house and the road that just dwarf the house and in the back we have red rock formations that are just far enough in the distance to view and enjoy once you overlook our yard. Thanks again for the tips
@laserfixer oh man that sounds gorgeous! I’m going to Red Rocks in October to see one of my favorite bands Incubus. Never been! Thank you for entering the contest!!!
Hello! I’m so excited I found you today 😆 I’m always researching something & finally there’s strong desire to do some legit landscaping. My house is a box.. that’s about it.. it makes me sad it doesn’t reflect me. I’m in a rut!
@Holly Golightly I’m so excited that you found me as well! It’s OK! Just like the interior of the house the exterior takes time and experience. If you ever need help you can go check out the links below enjoy my waitlist as I do designs for people all over the country. Keep watching videos as I’m going to drop lots and lots of landscape knowledge on you that will help you with your space and start to bring clarity. Thank you for the comment!
I’m working on redoing my front landscaping and thought I had to put up some retaining wall. So, glad I discovered the natural edging, I love the look so much better!
Love your designs and I’m so glad I came across your channel on UA-cam. have been binge watching your UA-cam videos trying to get some hardscaping ideas on how to extend our patio and as well as improve our backyard landscaping while incorporating my existing organic vegetable garden into the landscape design. Please help!
Oh how I wish I would have found you 8 years ago when we built our house. I had to have curb appeal immediately and made so many mistakes. I ended up hating most of it and had my husband take out a lot of the hard work he put into our design. I swear I’m one random tree/bush away from a divorce. 🤦🏻♀️
I've been working with native plants to create a prairie like backyard but want to use them in a more polished design up front now that I'm learning how they grow and can start collecting seeds and growing plants from seed.
@Daniel that’s really cool! It takes a bit of work and knowledge to create those types of landscapes. Not my strength but I’m learning more as well. I will be creating a video about this at some point.
Bobby, I just discovered you a few days ago and I love the way you describe what's going on in each landscape design. .I'm not sure just how to tackle my front yard, because we have moles and my yard isn't level. If you have any ideas, I will gladly welcome it. 🤔
Thank you for sharing your skill and talent! I just moved into a new (old) house and it has zero landscape on the front. I am terrified to actually add anything as I know nothing about landscape. Your videos have been a great non-intimidating way to learn.
Thank you for all the tips! I’m still learning and making mistakes, but I feel as if I have a new way to look at everything since subscribing. P.S. Your daughter is a cutie!
@Judie Oleen Deer can be pesky! I have one video out where I show a deer resistant front yard but I should definitely make some more. Thank you for the idea and I will try and make sure to deliver on that.❤️
Whenever I walk around in my neighborhood, I keep asking, “just what exactly was your intention with that?” 🤣🤣🤣 I need a new neighborhood. Why do some people buy houses? Have some house pride, yard tidiness goes so far.
New subscriber here. I just found you recently and I've been binging your videos. I'm really enjoying your channel and learning a lot. I just bought a new house and it looks like someone dropped a box in the middle of an acre of property, but, it's also a clean slate to start with, so now I'm like...where do I begin?
my husband had curbing installed around the beds in the front yard….i got my way in back, i edged with a shovel, way more natural. i also have a problem with people planting plants way too close to houses.
@Kate both work but as you can tell from my videos I like your style better. I think we can all benefit, not only aesthetically, but from a monetary value from more natural looking landscapes.
I hear ya. Focus on 1 area at a time. Get it nailed down to what you like and then work on the ideas for the next one. You can also sign up for my waitlist and I can help you out.
Really love your channel. question: are there ways to make “fruit growing areas” look nice? We have a lot of blueberry and blackberry bushes at the back of our yard, and while I love what they do, they aren’t super attractive. Would love a video on ways to either make areas like that look nicer or ways to camouflage them.
Hi Amy. I would have to see the area but my first instinct is to give a really cool backdrop to the area. Maybe it’s some cool privacy screens? Maybe it’s some cool taller bushes. The point is, if your eyes drawn to something else then what is in the forefront doesn’t seem as ugly and obvious. You could also put something pretty in front of those planted areas like some beautiful perennials or annuals. So you have a layer effect going on here… You would have beautiful color upfront then your fruit bushes then your privacy screen or taller hedge. I think the combination of all three of these would look really cool.
Guilty of paying good money to have retaining walls put around trees. Thanks for the free education! Anxious to start on the backyard with less mistakes.
Loving your style and tips. Just bought this house and the previous owners let it go to $#@&. We have focused on the interior which is wrapping up. It's time we start getting things in place for an exterior overhaul for next season.
Thank you!!! That’s typically how it goes. My wife and I remodeled her grandma’s house and we definitely started with the inside and work to the outside. Keep watching and hopefully I can help you save some money!
I love your channel and style! I want to eliminate the western-facing lawn in front of my east TN house and create a large pollinator garden. I have a French drain that I'd love to turn into a dry creek bed. I live on a peninsula on a lake that is overrun with deer. I'm entering your contest, and hope you'll find my yard an interesting challenge.
I just came across your video, it's like I was meant to see your channel. We just recently had a 90mph winds tornado in our area. It destroyed our shed, damaged our back yard fence, our siding and roof. We are starting with our yard as we were left with no fence door and some fencing, no shed... summer is here and we are trying to create a comfortable backyard environment but; we are overwhelmed and trying to figure out a good layout design. Is the contest still going... Bobby help me now.?
Glad to meet you and I’m so sorry to hear about the tornadoes! The contest is not going on but I am taking on clients. Happy to help! www.bobbykdesigns.com
I used the blocks in my backyard. It was used to define my garden beds that WEREN'T grandkid play area. In other words off limits. So what do they do, they walk them like a balance beam. I get your point, too late but I get it.. Where do you click for contest?
@Judy Clennan It’s so funny how kids fine retaining walls has something to climb on! Both of my kids do the same exact thing! Go under the video “DIY space under $500 “and you’ll find the link to the “Bobby help me now “contest”
Hey Bobby really enjoyed seeing your videos. I recently discovered your channel. I have a backyard ready for design…looking for some tips on how to break up the space here…. Any ideas and suggestions are welcome. How can I send you a picture of my back yard?
Hi Lon. Happy to help! You can enter the “Bobby Help Me Now Contest” or join my waitlist to get your own Bobby K Design. Both great options. www.bobbykdesigns.com or link to contest in description
I’ve watched all your videos and love your take on everything. I’m a fairly new gardener, 5 years or so, but I’m thinking of starting a business doing this same thing in NC. Located surrounding a recreational lake, usually means people want there homes to look the best. What I’m wanting to do is work with developers or new home owners. Designing beds, and most importantly choose plant combinations that work in our area 7b… what advice could you give me starting out, since you have the invaluable hindsight?
I think it’d be great if you were knowledgeable about native plants that help biodiversity. That’s the number one thing I’d be looking for in a landscape designer.
@Chotibunder77 I hear ya. I know a decent amount but native plants aren’t my specialty. You should try the channel “Garden Answer”. She’ll bore you to death with plants.😂
I could use your help and am broke but willing to put in the work I have a beautiful house well it can be. It’s rural but was a sea Captains house built in about 1900 I have a tree that is 6ft at the base and is at least 200 years old and a pond that is essentially a lake. I guarantee this can be amazing just needs work and someone with design skills and in a year of gradual work it will be beautiful. I have ideas but don’t have the budget to trial and error. Wish I get picked for a free design and sometime to work for.
Hi, just making this comment to qualify for your contest. I really enjoy your videos. P.S. I didn’t realize the photo I sent was supposed to be shareable. If I win I’ll send a new photo…
@Jonathan Cook I’m so excited that you entered! Don’t worry, I’m gonna reach out to every single person that I select and have a conversation with them to really make sure I deliver on my promise! Stay tuned.
These are my favorite type of comments! Why? Because “I’ve been there!” It’s ok. LANDSCAPING is a skill just like any other that will continue to grow as you get more practice. Get out there, stub your toe, watch more videos to speed up the process, and I guarantee you are going to have a different outlook on how it can be for you. I promise! You got this!

I love the first tip the most. The selected/designed feel of space is what gives it that luxury feel instead of the cheap, hodge podge.
Thank you for the content Alan.

@Lizard thank you for the sun! Start with the perimeter beds around the house and then with your way out.👍🏼
I've made mistakes with my prior home. Lessons learned. I hope not to make the same mistakes on my new home.
@Larry Murillo it’s all about experience and education. You got this my friend!💪
I have two acres of opportunity out here in Colorado. I’d love to get some ideas from you Bobby.
Dang! 2 acres!!! Sounds nice!
my husband had curbing installed around the beds in the front yard….i got my way in back, i edged with a shovel, way more natural. i also have a problem with people planting plants way too close to houses.
@Kate both work but as you can tell from my videos I like your style better. I think we can all benefit, not only aesthetically, but from a monetary value from more natural looking landscapes.
My head is spinning! New house and I see the potential, but I feel like I’ve got too many ideas and that they’ll clash or look to “busy”.
@@BobbyKDesigns thank you very much! I can definitely layer.
Great ideas!!!
@Linda T thank you!!!
Guilty of paying good money to have retaining walls put around trees. Thanks for the free education! Anxious to start on the backyard with less mistakes.
@Rachel Emery all good. I’ve made every single mistake that I share on this channel! It happens.
@Terri Pugsley thank you so much for watching, the comment, and entering!!! Talk to you soon
Thank you!
You bet!
Love your inspirational videos!!
@Mary Andrews I appreciate you watching! Thank you for the comment!❤️
We’ve recently pulled out all our bushes and are in the ugly duckling phase! Definitely need to do more research on design!
Happy to help! Join my waitlist.❤️
Thanks for the videos
Thank you for watching!
The unnecessary retaining wall! Those have always bothered me, but I didn’t really pick up on why.
@Jen S YES!!!! Me too.❤️
@Jen S crazy how once it’s pointed out you’ll see them EVERYWHERE! Lol
would love your opinion on my outdoor space because I'm completely lost!
Hi Lon. Happy to help! You can enter the “Bobby Help Me Now Contest” or join my waitlist to get your own Bobby K Design. Both great options. www.bobbykdesigns.com or link to contest in description
I have a quarter acre yard that hasn't been touched I'd love a free design
My yard is like the first one. Stuff put and planted with no reason. Over crowed.
Thank you for the chance to win!
🫵🏻
Very cool stuff!
Thank you!!!
That last one should be dubbed the great wall of china..that thing kept going and going and going...I completely agree it's too close to the porch.
Lol! I have built something just like that. What was I thinking!🙃
@kelly nagel OOOOOHHHH BOY do I have something awesome to share with you in a few months. Hint: Bobby K design academy
Stay Tuned!
I’ve been watching garden answer for years and have learned so much! Can’t wait to see what you come out with on this channel!
@kelly nagel me too! Lol
Lol heavy like Flintstones rocks
I could use your help and am broke but willing to put in the work I have a beautiful house well it can be. It’s rural but was a sea Captains house built in about 1900 I have a tree that is 6ft at the base and is at least 200 years old and a pond that is essentially a lake. I guarantee this can be amazing just needs work and someone with design skills and in a year of gradual work it will be beautiful. I have ideas but don’t have the budget to trial and error. Wish I get picked for a free design and sometime to work for.
I've got some great DIY stuff coming up in future videos. Stay tuned.
Stay tuned.
That’s awesome
Thank you! Hope to see you enter the contest.
I am the worlds worst gardener and manage to kill all my plants. Love your videos but even thinking about landscaping gives me a migraine
@@BobbyKDesigns thanks for the encouragement, I’ll keep trying
