As a person who struggles with anxiety, it took me some time to realize honesty in prayer and in my motives were more important than the words I said. You could say a very formulaic prayer, but if you have wrong motives then that prayer won't be answered. Remember the tax collector was justified by a simple prayer, "God, be merciful to me, a sinner." Whereas the Pharisee went home without any justification.
