This came out in my Freshman year of High School. The whole album "Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me" is one of my favorites ever! I've been a Cure fan since 85, but they've been around longer than that. This is one of my favourite songs as most people don’t know the meaning of story of the song It’s a about a girl who was in the hospital dying of cancer. She was a big fan of Robert Smith(vocalist of the cure) and Robert smith came visited her and thus the story of the song. One day Smith came and she passed away. It’s actually one of the saddest song in music history.
Porl, now Pearl, Thompson is the lead guitarist on this album, who made that awesome riff at the beginning. He used to be married to Robert's (lead singer's) sister. They grew up together. Porl has always been in and out of the band. He's with them when he wants to be, then goes away when he wants to do other things. He's also played with Led Zepplin.
I'm a hard core fan, and this is the probably the song I listen to the least (it did its job of combining their guitar sounds and dark lyrics with synth and mid80s pop sensibilities, to get radio play). Their "hits" are not their best stuff. You know a band is good when everything else is better than their "greatest hits". Best album is Pornography. Their best songs - Jumping Someone Else's Train, Play For Today, Forest, Hanging Garden, Cold, 100 Years, A Night Like This, Disintergation (from the album title), High, From The Edge Of The Deep Green Sea ... it's endless really. Pretty much anything which is not on their greatest hits album.
