I am off here again next week !! I went last year and was blown away so much so I have this video on my favourites and have watched it at least 100 times in the last 12 months !! stunning ! and I am English !!
what a phenomenal medley! and every single piper sounded as if they were one the whole time, not to mention, the tunning was almost 100% immaculate. great job Simon Fraser University!
The little boxes on the video didn't tell the whole list of the songs played here. They are as follows: Cosmos Cascade/The Snuff Wife /The Atholl Highlanders /The Braes of Locheil /Munlochy Bridge/The Top of Craigvenow/Mrs MacLeod of Raasay /The Braes of Locheil (reprise)/Mrs MacLeod of Raasay (reprise)
Great video. Great band. In fact, I was thinking "they're really, really good!"... that's when I noticed the title "winners of the 2008 World Championships". Amazing! Tanks for posting.
So glad to see that SFU are back to their winning ways at the worlds...not to take anything away from FMM and Schotts...but I think that SFU has been ripped off a couple of times with the juding over the years...I think that they have always been a heavenly pipe corps to listen to...but the drum corps the past couple of years has really been top notch too...giving them that edge over FMM...congratulations to a great band!!!
@djrepasky I was at PHG this year as well(any time I miss is not MY idea!) and knowing I've got SFU to look forward to makes the anicipation all the greater.Love this band!
@bagpiperofmuffins it is what is a called a pibroch High A, those of us of a certain age were taught both !! If you watch him he changes between both High A's depending on which is the easiest !
hey im also a piper im juz wonderin after braes of lochiel wht was d nxt song....pls tell me im interested in takin it out...n if u can also tell me which site 2 dl d song would b helpful...Thx.
7 generatons and 7 years is what it is said to make a piper to the point where he understands the secrets of the world. (Kan-eeda) Canada is that not the Gaelic for Scotland West.
I know this is an old comment, but some more old school players keep that middle finger down because of piobreachd embellishments, its easy to transition through them, also, some people do it to sharpen the high a I think. idk, my PM plays that way too and those are the reasons he gave me.
lol. freddylein, in modern vernacular "bad ass" is a very positive statement. it's as if chuckmaster said "wow, that was an amazing presentation of the highest quality of contemporary bagpipe music composition and performance". "bad ass" just has a bit more of a punch to it. honest mistake though
This band is scary good. Ever little piece from the uniforms to the medley, drums and so on is absolutely perfect.
The greatest pie band medley ever played at the worlds..................
Still think this beats FMM this year...
simply put, its the best medley ever. (in my opinion)
This medley is still as beautiful as I remember it being that day.
Ya' love pipes or you loath them. How can anyone not love this! Awesome!
That's Terry Lee playing the old-school high A with the middle finger down.
Absolutely the best pipe band I've ever heard...

Look forward every year to seeing and hearing this band at the Portland (OR) Highland Games at Mt. Hood Community College!!
Just saw them live at the Las Vegas highland games and they were simply amazing!

Traditional pipes and drums at the highest level
So much pure talent... I've probably watched this video 50 times and I never get sick of it. Such a wonderful medley. Perfection at it's best.
outstanding!! we got to this years championships for the first time and I was blown away!
I'm kinda glad to be part of this band (not this level) its great to live 20 minutes away from SFU.

best medley ever is the 2005 one. the last two tunes are awesome. Dr macphaills reel is simply the best, and only they play it just right.

Hope they come to South Carolina sometime. I'd love to see and hear them. :o)
the seconds on atholl highlanders are amazing :|
Once again, excellent playing. Great medley.
I was there and SFU were the best, no doubt! :D
They also won the -09 edition two days ago :)

Great video. Great band. In fact, I was thinking "they're really, really good!"... that's when I noticed the title "winners of the 2008 World Championships". Amazing! Tanks for posting.
The tune starting at 4:55 is a reel called Mrs. MacLeod of Raasay.
@dvb5150 Me neither! They come to my home town every year for our Highland Games and it's the high point of my day!
i love this medley set!! they play it so well!! but i wished they changed the medley for 2009....
Awesome playing
Pure magic!

@bagpiperofmuffins it is what is a called a pibroch High A, those of us of a certain age were taught both !! If you watch him he changes between both High A's depending on which is the easiest !
Weldone!!
Can someone tell me all the names of the tunes cause I want to know them and listen to them cause he didn't put all the tunes names up
Thanks
That's my school!!
@bagpiperofmuffins That is certainly the old-school (and very traditional) method of playing the high A. I wish I could do it!
lol - is the guy at 6:31 asleep?
@hoof2001 wut about the Victorian Police Pipe Band they are very very good pippers aswell
Bad ass as in cool
Best pipe band in the world by miles
Las mujeras canadensas son muy caliente.

I just noticed (in the slow air) that Terry is playing a pibroch High A. Does he always do that?
At 4:54, is that tune "Mrs. MacLeod of Raasay"?
7 generatons and 7 years is what it is said to make a piper to the point where he understands the secrets of the world.
(Kan-eeda) Canada is that not the Gaelic for Scotland West.
What's the tune at 4:50!?
lol. youre the second person in this strand of comments to question that. read down to get it answered.
Some people have Pearly Gates.
This is mine.
Wow. Just wow!
Does anyone know the name of the Slow Air?
why the pibroach high a
Apparently it didn't that year.
still got that?
i think he meant bad ass as in awesome
Braes of Loch Eil
or The Banks of Loch Eil
they play it one note higher than the traditional music
Really awesome camera shots and sounds. You didn't record this with your iPhone did you?
whats the last tune that SFUPB plays?
I know this is an old comment, but some more old school players keep that middle finger down because of piobreachd embellishments, its easy to transition through them, also, some people do it to sharpen the high a I think. idk, my PM plays that way too and those are the reasons he gave me.
@bagpiperofmuffins i play the high A the very same way
How much money does the first place grade I band win at the Worlds?
why does terry lee do his high As with a different finger?
so did you like the tunes i sent you?
why does terry lee do his high As differently?
@bagpiperofmuffins
thats the F finger mate, Burnaby what ?!
"Braes of Loch Eil"
hilarious
lol everybody took your comment the wrong way :P
@blackendfaith Braes of Loch Eil
actually bad ass is good. not bad, as the actual term may suggest. he is saying that the music is awesome.
lol. freddylein, in modern vernacular "bad ass" is a very positive statement. it's as if chuckmaster said "wow, that was an amazing presentation of the highest quality of contemporary bagpipe music composition and performance". "bad ass" just has a bit more of a punch to it. honest mistake though
i woudnt mind entering my text at 3:58 ;)
he called it "bad ASS"...wich is a complament.
similler to "the shit" wich is also a complament
haha, you thought he was saying it was bad? are you older than 50?
I think that SFU play sheep skin pipebags and kinnaird drone reeds??
I take it you're not familiar with slang.
Do you mean crap... or bad as as in good? :P
You play pipes.... but your not good :P ( yet ) keep practicing
They're just tearin' it up. :o)
Hope they come to South Carolina sometime. I'd love to see and hear them.
why does terry lee do his high As with a different finger?
