The only reason you guys got the DR200 in the states is probably because Suzuki wanted to try get some more money. it’s not meant for racing or even trail riding it’s a farm bike. it was built for Australia and New Zealand’s terrain not for a race track but still I do Enjoy watching people race these farm bikes.
@@charmando641 Thank you. I did that, but also put about 1" spacer in top for pre-load, and added an ounce of oil to each fork. Was a HUGE improvement, cannot describe how much better. But still that was an amateur attempt, I want to see what the smart people do.
@@potatopobobot4231 There are critical reasons why there isn't going to be a "next bike" for me, the XT225 is truly my end game, the only bike that fits my needs that I can reasonably dual sport here in BC Canada with our stupid laws. Definitely going to be more reliable than a KTM! UA-cam just recommended your channel. Not sure why I haven’t seen it before, but I love this channel. Cheap bikes are a blast! Hopefully you do some street legal stuff as well. Subscribed.
The engine in the DR 200 has been around for a very long time, in the late 80's these were very snappy little bikes. But like you said Suzuki slapped the eco friendly stuff on there and corked it up good and proper. My mate had 1989 Dr200 and it went quite well. Nice work on finding the key needed to unlocking its true potential.
Ive had my dr 200 for years and I agree it needs a better carb and yes please show me what you did with the forks and do you still have that back rack you pulled off
DRZ are heavy and very utilitarian... But ive seen some guys with skill put them through some of the stuff people struggle to get new KTMs through... The trick is dont drop the bike, because you have to pick up that extra 45kg they have over other bikes every time you do😂
@@karlcain1068 DRZ is ~145kg wet and it carries a lot of that weight high, and theres not much to shed without spending big $$. For reference, the DRZ400 is heavier than an XR600 lol. Most enduro bikes he will be competing against are closer to 100kg mark and carry their weight 10x better. 40lb isnt even in the ballpark, try 70-100lb depending on what youve stripped off/added.
@@GeneralNOH 650? I’m talking about the difference in weight of the DR200 and DRZ400 per the OP above... it’s just about a 40 pound difference...the E is even closer... lift some weights man... you share a name with Mr. “Taken” himself... 😂
I am that one person that wants to know your fork mods even though I don't own a dr200 I have similar forks on another bike. Put a braided line on the front to give it more bite. Made a big difference to a single piston brake on mine.
I took my road test years ago on a friends dr200. Felt like a clown at a circus by of its small size. But........it rocked on the NH state test. A perfect beginner bike especially for people less than my 5’10”.
I'll probably touch on this in a video coming up but to sum it up simply, the DR200 punches out of it's 199cc league for sure with just the carb & exhaust, and in some ways comes out favorable to a CRF230F engine but in some ways will never compare.
This is by far the most entertaining and hilarious video I have seen all FREAKING MONTH (saw this at the end of November). I would watch this kind of content over a full Yamaha trail build everyday, no question!!! Definitely picking up a shirt brother. sorry about your struggles, hang in there!
I just picked up a 2014 DR200, old farm bike, I like them as I can flat foot them, they are still sold in Australia new as at late 2022. Loved by our outback farmers for mustering alone with the CRF250F and L models. Also can be road registered here too.
Glad to see you back on youtube ! You should do a in depth series about all you did to your DR200, weight savings, carb tuning and all would give you many additional videos out of the same project so little investment besides time. Keep it up man !
It’s hard to see a great content content creator fall on hard times. I hope everything pans out with your personal life, I’ll continue to watch every video you put out like and comment. Keep up the good content, the race to the top is easy if you don’t look back
Great video and hopefully you will see lots of KTM tears on race day! I’m an old man with old bikes (1984 kdx200 ,1991 xr250l) who just putts around nowadays, no racing for me. Good luck, God speed and Cheers 🍻
I'm working on a small Honda XLR125R on my channel To make it off road capable and swapped to a chinese PWK26 carb. Huge difference as you mention. I made a video especially about it.
The DR200 was my first bike just a few years ago. That being said, this video was hilarious. I'm excited to see what other content you can come up with here!!
Hey man, you had a part sheet for the DR200 on your website -- What about a parts list to fix you up? I'll buy you the parts for dinner to set up the KTM tear maker
Throw a lt230s head and cam in there with a klr230R jet kit in a lt230s carb and a single slip on from a gzxr600 dual exhaust system, play with your gearing a little and it'll pull like a 250 and top out over 80, tried and true backyard build you won't regret
Thanks man, used your guide as a starting point on my $600 dr200. Haven’t had a dualsport or dirtbike since my xt225 over 10 years ago. Still getting the forks dialed in. Went with a 13t in the front since it won’t be seeing the highway. Dropping the foot pegs 1” down and back changed the way it handles in the deep and loose sand for the way better. Also this is by far the worst cv carb I’ve ever had. The one on my Harley I only had to set up once, 10k miles ago. This one is out of whack every other time I ride it(no vacuum leaks or anything) so I’ve been looking at Atlantic trials for a decent oko along with a home job p&p. +1 on the slipping mechanism 🤣 I can barely clutch up the front wheel from a standstill.
I used to own a nineties DR250. It had USD forks and disc brakes front and rear. An freer flowing exhaust and a bigger Mikuni "pumper" carb made it LEAP.
Had to go and get one of your Beware of the DR200 shirts a while back. My DR200 has been a great toy, but I'm still pretty much running stock since I'm not the best at figuring out modifications. Other than a skid plate. Definitely make or buy a skid plate. A cutting board can be heated, shaped, and strapped on, and it works great.
Another awesome build!! I love seeing bikes that people over look being pushed past the point of what people say they can do. Keep up the great vids!! Ps i bought an xr250R because of your other vids . Thank you 🤙🏻
Damn that dr200 has been through it all. Hopefully it lives to see the end of the race. What happened to the other bikes? Bad crashes, freak mechanical failures, maintenance oversight?
I love crappy slow bikes, and I really enjoyed this video, the fact that the race you did with it completely stock resulted in many over takes is really impressive too
Somehow I never knew or heard of your list of parts. Goes to say a fair amount of people who are hugely interested in your content did not even know about this list. Your content is so refreshing. I hope to ride with you one day. I am sure many on your channel would love to ride with you. I hope you can do what @eveRide is doing.
Hi Gabe, awesome video once again, your content is so good. Question about your carb: was your new flat slide carb the same diameter as the original one? How would you make a carburetor fit into an intake manifold which is too big for it? Looking at installing a 28mm flat slide on my '86 dr250 which came stock with a 34mm CV. I'm using your videos as a guide in a way haha. Cheers, greetings from NZ
You riding these clapped bikes just shows you dont need a brand new ktm to have fun. Keep up the good work man and keep making these kinds of videos 🤘🏻
Only you understand the grin on my face when I pass al the KTM super adventures and new Africa Twins on my old, shitty Suzuki DR 750 big. That oil burning, heavy, wobbly frame with soggy suspension just works good enough for me to see the GS adventures in my rear view mirror. Not that you can see anything but vague blobs anyways. It's fun! Really looking forward to the DR 200 racing.
Thanks for subbing! As funny as it may be, I've totally enjoyed this year's struggle. There has yet to be a boring day as I continue to get everything figured out lol!
I slapped on the same carb on my 200 and it woke it up very nicely. Stock exhaust though, only thing it doesn’t make power on is the top end. It takes a little longer to get to 60, what would improve that?

As a Yamaha XT225 rider, I can't wait to see how you redeemed the front forks. I need all the help I can get.
Denser fork oil definitely helps
I’m thinking about doing the Cogent DDCs and a heavier oil for my XT eventually. I’ve heard good things, but they’re pricey 😬
@Connor Boynton ive done racetech emulators and springs and works rear shock on an xt. Save the money for your next bike i wish i did.
So that leaves me asking how much better can it be if I do spend the money for valves, springs and a shock? Is it worth it, if there is no other option?
Just picked up an 88 DR200 keen to get it going again
Nice. The old ones are actually really sweet

Seriously i have never saw a video of someone speaking for straight 30 min but i saw u bruh loved it u have earned my subscription
Gabe ,Sorry I did not see this earlier..Love your content and I am excited to see more. I will be praying for things to turn around in your personal life so you can get back to Torture test magazine....keep the faith, things will get better Buddy.
Ive had my dr 200 for years and I agree it needs a better carb and yes please show me what you did with the forks and do you still have that back rack you pulled off
I have the rack. You want it? email me info@torturetestmagazine.com
We want to see you on a DRZ 400 !! you are a beast man xD
DRZ are heavy and very utilitarian... But ive seen some guys with skill put them through some of the stuff people struggle to get new KTMs through...
The trick is dont drop the bike, because you have to pick up that extra 45kg they have over other bikes every time you do😂
@@GeneralNOH More like 40 Pound difference... And if you keep 🏋️♀️ you will be fine... 💪
@@GeneralNOH the drz 400 E weight is about 120kg wet
@@GeneralNOH 650? I’m talking about the difference in weight of the DR200 and DRZ400 per the OP above... it’s just about a 40 pound difference...the E is even closer... lift some weights man... you share a name with Mr. “Taken” himself... 😂
I am that one person that wants to know your fork mods even though I don't own a dr200 I have similar forks on another bike. Put a braided line on the front to give it more bite. Made a big difference to a single piston brake on mine.
200cc 4 stroke at 275 lbs?! Jesus man you make any bike look badass
Your experience is amazing.
Congratulations, you simply inspired me.
I have a DR125 and now I dream at all this fun.
Thanks.
You are like that Into the Wild guy that took off to live in Alaska wilderness alone with a pair of flip flops and a Starbucks gift card to live.
I took my road test years ago on a friends dr200. Felt like a clown at a circus by of its small size. But........it rocked on the NH state test. A perfect beginner bike especially for people less than my 5’10”.
So happy to see your content again. Can't wait for the next vid.
Hope your life is getting back to normal.
Loved the video man! Would you say that after the carb+exhaust the bike is faster than a crf230f?
I'll probably touch on this in a video coming up but to sum it up simply, the DR200 punches out of it's 199cc league for sure with just the carb & exhaust, and in some ways comes out favorable to a CRF230F engine but in some ways will never compare.
Been hanging for this vid...now hanging for the actual race 😂
Keep it up mate!
This is by far the most entertaining and hilarious video I have seen all FREAKING MONTH (saw this at the end of November). I would watch this kind of content over a full Yamaha trail build everyday, no question!!! Definitely picking up a shirt brother. sorry about your struggles, hang in there!
What did you have to do to get the crf230's PWK working? Looks like you were tracing for a gasket or spacer or something.
Keep up the good content, the race to the top is easy if you don’t look back
love your videos bro!
I clicked on this for the heck of it. Dam it's quite informative. I didn't know the DR200 had them kind of balls. Keep up the good work.
Great video and hopefully you will see lots of KTM tears on race day! I’m an old man with old bikes (1984 kdx200 ,1991 xr250l) who just putts around nowadays, no racing for me. Good luck, God speed and Cheers 🍻
Freaking hilarious! THANK YOU!
I think it's a great idea. I don't want a shirt but I'll send a donation
I'm working on a small Honda XLR125R on my channel To make it off road capable and swapped to a chinese PWK26 carb. Huge difference as you mention. I made a video especially about it.
Grabbed some merch and am thinking mugs would make great Christmas presents for my dualsport riding group ;)
Wondered where you went. Enjoy your videos, keep them coming!
This is gonna be so epic! Dr200 to the win
I love your video’s and hope things will get better for you 💪🏻
The dr absolutely killed i love this video i actually got a massive amount of respect for the litle dr200 after this
Absolutely love your videos! Thanks for all the inspiration...
I'm a owner of a dr200 mod2011, and i love it on dirt roads..
I learned on a beginner bike - a drz250 and that bike went everywhere my buddies wr426 and ktm300xc went - go ride!
Great videos. Would like to see carb mods and fork build, in detail. Please!😁
Have you tried laxatives to find the seat? Maybe the pucker factor sucked it up and its buried deep in your inner soul? I mean, it's possible?..
Please take the KDX 200 out and decimate the competition!
Really enjoyed this! Thanks Gabe
Should share what you changed in the suspension. Would rather know than figure it out myself. Already subbed.
Your channel's awesome! Good luck in your race ✊
The mystery of the lost seat is hilarious!
This dudes got heart ❤️. keep it going man, absolutely love the videos.
I would like to see a picture of what you did to the footrest mounts.
This is gonna be so awesome! Good luck at GH!
Dying to see what you did to the front end.
Awesome video. Sorry to hear life is kicking your ass this year. New subscriber.
Thanks for subbing! As funny as it may be, I've totally enjoyed this year's struggle. There has yet to be a boring day as I continue to get everything figured out lol!
This is awesome man! Well done. I can't wait to see the rest!
Amigo me puedes decir que carburador utilizas gran trabajo con la dr 200
Hell yeah brother!! cant wait to see the race
I slapped on the same carb on my 200 and it woke it up very nicely. Stock exhaust though, only thing it doesn’t make power on is the top end. It takes a little longer to get to 60, what would improve that?
Love This! Completely proof ya dont need to spend 12000 to win! Everyone knows the yellow ones are the fastest anyways!
I want to know what you did to the forks,I want to apply it to my dt 125 forks which are too soft
