I love tanks that look after themselves. It's how the hobby should be in my opinion if we want more and more people to get into it...so why is my fish wall not set up full of ecosystem tanks?? It's time to change that!

I love the High Tech aquariums too, they have a huge place in our hobby.
No piranha yet? ;) If your wife is skittish about it, tell her about the Pacu which is a more vegetarian version. In fact in the wild, the Pacu will school with their more carnivorous cousins as protection and look a bit similar in both shape and color.
Video 20 of asking for a tank with some freshwater dolphinfish please.
MD, you are being shamed in Dr. Novack's latest video - The Aquarium Specialist (Wonk).
I hope by now you know we'll watch anything - ANYTHING - you do with your tanks. Your studio is an aquatic soap opera and we don't want to miss a second of it.
what an embarrassing comment
@@Belihah Keep reading the rest of them.🤣🤣🤣🤣
2:25 good to see Annette and Flo working together
The trimming video was relaxing and it was satisfying watching you mow down that carpet. Also, what makes this channel so good isn’t just the tanks but you. Remember that and embrace it.
I think the second most handy thing you have is an outdoor chest where you can store all the gravel and sand that isn't being used. Needless to say, the best thing you have is Kate. I can get one of those chests, but I can't get a Kate. Clearly, you are luckier than I.
Oh! The rainbows immediately liked that high flow to play in!! 😃
You have 3 tank. You can setup a red, orange, yellow plant tank for one. Another with Yellow, green and blue-hue plant in them (there should be a type of bucephalandra that will have hint of blue/ purple on them). Another thank would be blue-hue, indigo, purple tank (telanthera, purple bacopa, purple altenanthera). You can stock the tank with blue fish you never kept before like Neon Blue Rasbora, blueberry tetra or Burmese Rummynose Rasbora in the blue-purple tank.
In regards to blue plants, you can actually grow peacock selaginella emmersed, and it keeps it blue color quite well in the right lighting!
imo an ecosystem tank is not only less work, it's also more interesting to watch and overall better looking.
it's gotten me to fix up my neglected 36g and is an herb garden
I live vicariously through you and these tanks. I just got out of the hobby after my betta passed, partially because I couldn't keep his tank green. I tried everything. Nutrient rich soil, root tabs, different lights, different length of light, water testing, fertilizers...and the only thing that would semi-grow were crypts. Without fail, my anubias would do ok for a bit then the leaf edges would turn brown and slimy and start rotting. My java ferns blackened. My floaters up top yellowed and turned to mush. Crypts and banana plants saved my tank from looking like a nuclear wasteland but I wasted so much money and time on different things that all died. It was honestly quite depressing. This is much nicer. Maybe one day I will try again but not for a good while...
I really love casual maintenance videos you should do them more often!
An aquarium triptych ... I love it! Can wait to see these builds!
Eh-hem, maybe a bit more Timmy?
Yes! I agree!
Seen the notification and dropped everything 😂
Maybe you could get one of those little coconut caves for the bristle noses. It would be fun to have them have babies.
you should do Q&A’s in your maintenance videos!! i love maintenance videos regardless (very satisfying to watch) but i feel like it could be a great way to answer any questions that new (or older) viewers may have about your tanks and/or certain species of fish etc.
I've used Pond Aquasoil and Nutribase capped with sand on my Fluval 330.
The plants literally exploded 😊 wish I could post a picture.
This method is fantastic 👏
Love the water Lettuce looks like something from War of The Worlds
Here I was, waiting to get my MD fix all day... and you came through! Thanks!
This channel deserves a MILLION subs LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I really love these maintenance videos - you sharing what you've learned (duckweed is a pain for example), showing that it's ok to evolve techniques and ideas... Its authentic and thats needed. Keep being you!
I love the pearl weed tank. That's my style of set up and its looking great after the lawn mowing.
17:00 no blue plants. There is actually a blue shimmering bucephlandra called brownie ghost. I actually have a couple of rhizomes of that and It looks wicked
No one is doing it like you! Love ur videos❤
at 15:16 i love how the rainbow fish seem to love the flow and are playing in it. "Woohoo i'm a colourful torpedo!"
My rainbows will swim for hours in the current, they come from rivers so they love it
Ooo, an aquarium triptych! Amazing idea MD, I can’t wait to see that! Gosh those Endlers are stunning, aren’t they? Great video, thank you.
That pile of Driftwood is insane... I'm so jealous... 😊❤
Duckweed... I know the pain. :D
Great video. Looking forward seeing the new project of the 3f tanks. Great idea.
Whhat! Youre idea for the three 3 foot tanks sounds amazing! Cant wait to see it
I found with my rainbows I needed surface agitations as they needed more oxygen so I added a wave maker near the surface. I definitely think its the unwashed sand that's causing the white crud, surface agitation will help. They love to swim in high flow too.
Love the tank wall!
Love the video, thanks for inspiring me to get into the aquarium hobbies
I think it's more natural with water changes like it is in nature 🌧
On the edge of my seat waiting for the 3X3!!! Really really loving these videos. ❤❤
MD I think the rainbow will love more flow in the tank, and the fish will show up more
Would love to see a feeding-only video of just you walking around to each tank and taping a bit of the fishes' feeding habits/behaviors!
Just keep me hanging on with the promise of those beautiful angels!
Obrigada por compartilhar, sempre fico muito feliz por assistir seus vídeos ❤ amo peixe e tudo relacionado a eles. parabéns 👏🏼👏🏼por sua dedicação 😊
Great work ❤
Love you mate
Hi MD! Love the new rainbow tank! One thing with rainbow fish, they seem to prefer a dark substrate layer, so a much darker gravel/sand combination.
This is how they live here in Australia. Seem to breed more often, show their colours better too. Just a suggestion. BTW: I do like the look of the light sand in this scape! Hope that helps. Much love from North Queensland, Australia
in the next one like this that got tank updates i would love to see the cory/endler tank again ❤
There are no blue plants because theres technically only 3 colors for the diff types of chlorophyll. Green, red, and i believe yellow is the last one.
This video just reminded me that I have a bucket full of Val to plant! Thank you! I'm trying to grow it out for a 75 gallon that I'll be setting up soon for rainbows. You are inspiring! Will you by chance be at Dallas Aquashella in May 2024?
All those nutrients in the substrate for Sagittaria Subulata 😂. That weed grows like crazy in pure poolfilter sand with no fertilizer at all. Maintenance will be a nightmare. I am expecting those runners to conquer everything in no time. For small, no maintenance, healthy tanks I use Cryptocoryne lutea, which stays small and spreads slowly, Anubias nana on rocks and stringy moss. No work except taking out half of the moss regularly. Pure sand and weekly fertilizer and it stays clean and balanced. Perfect for shrimp and baby fish. Also, fish hide very well in sagitarria when you are trying to catch them. If you lower the water level, those long sag leaves cover everything like a thick blanket and catching fish is stressful for everyone. Easier to use plants which can be taken out of the tank for catching fish.
The scum came from sand when its dry for long time as soon as it came in contact with water the froth formation takes place. It also happens with dirt you may have seen during rain.
I get this a lot even with washing my sand I have 2 polar parrots that dig sand up like mad I have 2 sub adult bns albinos also a gold nugget and a royal pleco so I feel your pain
Tropica are bringing out Blue buce any moment.
Exciting! Are there enough white plants to do a white scape tank for one of the 3 new displays?! 🤔 hope you and your family are well. Love you videos!
COOL VIDEO🎉 14:56 🐟
All your show tanks are gorgeous, but I particularly love the tank the angelfish are in now. I love that kind of wild-but-controlled chaos of plants. What size is that tank? Are you running CO2 in it? If you have time, would you be willing to talk about it for a moment in your next video when you move the angels? I’m in the process of preparing to set up a new 40 breeder planted tank, and that is exactly the style I’m aiming for.
Check out Hygrophila sp. chai pinkish color.. also you get blueish buce
Love from India
Hey MD! LOVE all your aquascapes - they’re all AWESOME!
I have a challenge for you! I have a 40-gallon breeder tank that I want to look like a miniature natural forest, but this requires some hills, valleys, and (here’s the challenge:) some *terracing* so you could have one area looking like is terraced and has stone steps. I don't think I’ve seen anything like that in any of your tanks … please point me to a video of this if you DO have one!
If you don’t have a video or haven’t done this yet,, care to take the challenge? 🙃
i love all of your tanks!! have you ever considered getting koi sanke swordtails? theyre some of my favorite fish
🔥 as always. Dallas in May?
I am new to the fish keeping club, but after a year of on/off watching these videos I just had to get involved, and I have to say it’s really nice how down to earth and humble you are, given you clearly have a real skill set in not just planted tanks but aquascaping too, I’ve watched loads of different content but always come back to your videos because it’s not snooty and judgemental, just really interesting, friendly and informative, and your tanks look amazing 🤌👏
Loads of love from India. ❤️❤️
Really nice watching your video's, I learned a lot from them. Can you mention the name again of the plants you put in the holding tanks? Thanks,
Floter plants for the. Rainbow fish tank
A Father Fish tank ? Nice.
Nice videos. Which camera lens ur using to shoot ? Is it a cinematic lens?
I came across this plant while researching reputable shippers.
Hygro Blue (Hygrophila Salicifolia).
Though I have yet to find any convincing photos of its moniker.
None of this nutri base or anything base is available in the USA.
Great video md. Can you do a video on cleanup crew. I have seen people use black mollies for hair algae. Is that effective?
Love your channel!
do more betta tanks
Hello. I have an idea but I don't have the opportunity to try it. can you try? That is, to put a sieve at the bottom of the tank to prevent the sand from passing down (with a 0.5 cm gap at the bottom of the tank) and to make the suction of the water filter through this gap. After your videos of tanks without filters and water changes, this may seem like a ridiculous effort, but do you think it will help filtration?
MD where do you get your tanks like you rainbow fish tank please?
The Blue Plants is the name of my new band.
What brand rimless do you like. I live in USA can’t decide
I really miss your nano tank builds for things like Bettas
You need a cool gold fish to destroy all that duckweed
Is it possible to turn a cycled gravel or sand tank with plastic plants and shop decorations in to a planted tank?
The end of your video comes and I'm always sad it wasn't longer.
Hook me up with the camera stats MD!
❤❤
How many amano shrimp do you recommend putting in a 10 gallon tank? Also can you recommend an algae eater that can help control algae appearing on the glass?
Think it’s time to start incorporating some pleco caves into your scapes.
Do u put an air stone or any flow in these low tech dirted tanks ?
What's the blue and yellow fish?
Trimmed sag will heal and look natural again. just like hair
haha I made the mistake of not rinsing the black sand I bought for my first tank. It was nightmare levels of dirty. Never again lol. We're using 100 gallons of water just to rinse sand xD
May I know what's the dimension of these tanks, pls?
Someone get that Japanese guy who invented Blue LEDs onto the Blue Plant problem. 😂
So MD when's the 8ft reef tank coming😂😂😂
You should get a reptile
Hi im from philippines and i really like to get into the hobby but its hard here in the PH everything is expensive. Hope someone can help me learn more about the hobby.. I loved your videos
Rainbows eat duckweed 😉
Not first but i got here pretty fast! ❤🎉
Did you get a new camera? Video quality extra crisp! Sorry I'm a photo/videographer and can't help but notice😅
i think you have some duckweed
I don’t know why, this video quality or the saturation isn’t the regular one that your other videos has😕
still can't decide if I like the new bloom lighting. It looks nice but also a bit 'fake' if you know what I mean
it makes filming aquariums in particular way better. Because there is always a bright light and dark areas in fish tanks, the filter means the camera can retain more detail/information and things are way less blown out. Plus it just feels a bit more real to me. Personal preference I guess...
Shout out to LRB Aquatics, the GOAT of no filter planted tanks!
yeah love Lucas. Met him last year and we were chatting for ages.
Im always thinking... why dont you pre-soak alot of the smaller wood that you have in the fish wall tanks, so that you dont have to glue any of it down 🤔
Love your work otherwise.. ive been following you for more then a year now. Great job, keep it up.
How can you do not have alge. Jezz
MD im in real need of help. I have a piece of wood that will not sink so ive tried glueing it (used the glue you always use on your scapes) and it will not hold its been about 4 hours and its still like sticky glue just wont dry like how your does any ideas please🙏🙏🙏
Superglue (cyanoacrylate) should harden when wet, but the gel type doesn't really work when you try to use it with tissue to stick down wood. You need the liquid type.
If you need a quick fix, put some large rocks on the wood to hold it down, after a few weeks it will have absorbed water and lost its buoyancy.
@@Vox_Nihili thank youu
Why there is no blue plants well you are right MD it does have to do spectrum Green plants absorb red and blue light.Where as red plants absorb the green light
I know this is not aligned with this video but I really need help!
My betta fish is sick, ive tried everything besides medication. What should i do? Please help!
Join a tropical fish forum online, you'll get immediate help from many people in the hobby
You can use aquarium salt for healing or betta revive but you have to change them to a smaller tank and change the water daily with betta revive
aquarium without water current looks wrong for somereason 😹😹idk why
Why video is glaring.
