  • Leaving Kenhardt, we were taking a detour through Putsonderwater to Prieska where we picked up a stool that we had forgotten there two days earlier. It's always a relief to retrieve forgotten items, we were happy to have the stool back. After picking it up, we bought some food and also made sure to fill up the car with fuel. We passed through many towns like Britstown, Victoria West, Beaufort West, Touws River, and many more on our way to our hometown of Strand. Despite the long distance and many stops along the way, we had fun and made it back home safely just before midnight. We were relieved to finally be back after such a long journey. Overall, it was a memorable trip filled with lots of sights and experiences. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #northerncape #strand

Yup, everytime we wake up on a trip Monday, we think there's a whole seven days ahead and, when we open our eyes again, it's Sunday and we have to head home. It's incredible how time flies when we're travelling and seeing all these amazing places, which we're so happy to have shared with you. 🚙🤩 Thank you for sharing your hometown with us. It was so special that we forgot something there just so that we could go back again! 😝 We've rested well for a little bit, but we're already back from our next trip, so I shall be picking you up tomorrow morning for the first instalment! 😁

Thank-you for this series, it was incredibly enjoyable, filled with abundance of positive energy seeing the agricultural, commercial and mining activities in the towns. Kuruman's growth, Kathu's trees, cleanliness and size, Upington's growth and overall appearance are captivating not to mention Prieska, Kakamas and the other places, however Kenhardt really did it for me and others (if one goes by your views 11k at the time of writing), there was just something magical about that town and all the best to your host, I am glad to see that her entrepreneurship is paying off. I think that they're installing one of the largest solar farms just outside Kenhardt Rooidam was a surprise as was the drive to it. You're really highlighting the Kwids capabilities...hopefully they'll extend the sunvisors 😊. The Northern Cape through your lense is sure a magnificent place.

Thank you for joining us on this memorable trip through a new (to us) part of the Northern Cape! 🚙🤩 We were blown away by everything we saw and it was all so very unexpected. We love everything as you know and everything is beautiful to us, but we found in this part of the Northern Cape a green beauty which we never in a million years were expecting. The size of some of the towns was another thing which we were totally unaware of and it was a trip which made us see the Northern Cape in a completely different light. You haven't been around for a while, so I thought you may be off on travels of your own, but I'm glad to hear you enjoyed everything with us. You're right, from De Aar to Kenhardt was absolutely fantastic and these memories have been etched forever in our hearts and in our minds. Yup, the solar farm outside Kenhardt is also the reason for all the guesthouses in Kenhardt being fully-booked all the time, which is fantastic for the town. Our host found a little hole for us though and that, as well as her time, passion for Kenhardt and her knowledge were very much appreciated. 😍 Although the Kwid couldn't keep up on the road to Rooiberg Dam, it navigated pretty sandy spots where, if we weren't following our host, I would've turned back from, so I'm even more impressed by that little car, if that's at all possible. I'll cope with the sunvisors being on the short side! 🤣

Hi DustBugs! I enjoyed your excursions through the Western and Northern Cape tremendously. I am a 75year young South African pensioner residing in Dubai for the last 14 years. I was born and raised in the Transvaal Lowveldt. The Northern Cape has a magnetic pull on the core of my being, especially Prieska. I know the surrounding towns well, Kenhardt, Douglas, Hopetown as well as Groblershoop, Grootdrink, Kakamas and Kei. As a kid I visited my grandparents, John Joseph, and Ellen Benson, who lived in Prieska for many years. My mother is buried in Prieska. Your travel stories and comments (some quite funny!) has inspired me to revisit these old stomping grounds when I eventually return to South Africa. I wish you all the best and hope to see many more adventures from you DustBugs! Godspeed.

Thank you, your comment is so much appreciated! 🚙🤩 I'm happy to hear you enjoy travelling with us. You clearly know the Northern Cape very well and this was our first time to most of these places. We were absolutely blown away by all that we saw, it was incredible to discover this province more. Instead of barren and bare, which we also love by the way, we found an abundance of green, which was a rather big surprise to us! 🌳💚 Prieska is a wonderful town which we thoroughly enjoyed exploring. I hope that you will indeed be able to travel back to your home country in the not-too-distant future. It remains a fantastic place with such incredible beauty! Interesting to hear that you're from the Lowveld, Sonia was born in (the now) Limpopo, so the Bushveld is in her blood too! She gave me a transfusion the first time she took me to Kruger. I lost my heart there and I don't think I'll ever get it back. 🥰🇿🇦 We're back from our next trip to our next chosen destinations already and we look forward to sharing the first episode with you tomorrow!

Like I'm following a "soapie". Nice drive back home. Dangerous truckers, I hope their company's take note. We or rather I forget the risks you guys take to bring us great videos. Humour me some more as did Sonia at the 6.00 minute mark "I'm talking about the surface" and your answer, then the field started passing the car window in a reverse direction. For some one from the UK the vastness of the land and the lack of people always amazes me plus the long views to mountains the quiet towns along the way reminds me of my time living in South Africa. I also remember you could only get beer on Friday night 7 o'clock and everyone loading up their cars bakkies with beers great idea with your cap extra visor I have the same problem they never come down low enough because I'm short 😀 l can never get enough of the African sunsets. Hey going to no water in well twice......heeeheee. Cows under bird nests....lots of giggles in this episode. 😂😂😂...
Pity about those trucks endangering other people on the road. Looked really scary driving in places. So glad you home safe....I dont drive in the dark anymore 😢 safe travels you two

How strange life works sometimes! From having never been to Putsonderwater to being there twice in three days, although the second one was literally just a drive-by visit! 😁🚙 I'm glad you giggled a lot too, that's about the only thing that kept the two of us awake on the way home! 🤣 That, and the wild trucks on the road, some of them were really driving recklessly! 😨🚚 The cattle under the bird nest umbrella was one of the highlights of our trip back home. Classic memory of the road to and from Putsonderwater! 🐂🌳 Thanks for joining us on this special trip through a special part of the Northern Cape, it was fantastic!

Northern Cape is a great area. I'm consider it as my area of operation for my trade goods. Selling to the general dealers of all kinds including supermarkets in the bigger towns like Upington, Kimberly etc.

I read on the internet that the person who owns the house that is lived in at Putsonderwater is the great grandson of the farmer who had the original farm.

That's very interesting! If I remember correctly, another viewer mentioned in a comment on here or on Facebook that he may own the whole town, but I'm really not sure. It will make sense if it were someone's farm that it would belong to someone and not to a local authority. Thank you for the info! 👌🏻🏡

When I saw the Hugenot Tunnel I felt so relieved that you guys were nearly home.. I was so on my nerves when you left Laingsburg and encountered those trucks 😖 I'm just glad you arrived in Town safely ❤️

We did indeed arrive safely, thank you! 🚙🤩 It was a very long day of travelling though and those trucks didn't make it any easier, but all is well that ends well. We just fell into bed once we'd offloaded that night. 🤣😴 We appreciate you taking the drive home with us!

Sorry about Verneukpan. I would have loved to see the two of you emulating Sir Malcolm Campbell. Maybe sometime in the future. Thank you for allowing me to go everywhere while going nowhere. Kind regards.

Sir Malcolm Campbell can be glad we didn't make it to Verneukpan this time around, we may have just broken some record out there, not exactly sure which one though! 😁🚙 Thank you so much for taking the trip home with us, we had a blast! 🤩

no wonder that there is so much carnage on the n1 with truck drivers like that. enjoy the rest before the outing.

It was really crazy how some of those truck drivers were passing one another on solid white lines. They endanger everyone else's life on the roads as well! 😨🚚 Luckily we arrived home safely, got some much-needed rest, but we're back from our next trip already, so will be sharing those videos from tomorrow. I hope you enjoy them too! 🚙🤩

It was great fun to have you on board through this part of the Northern Cape, I'm so glad you enjoyed it too! 😁🚙 The butterflies were too beautiful and enjoyed the gravel road too much, luckily they didn't get into the car! 🦋 Those trucks certainly tried to break speed and overtaking records, their manoeuvers were rather dangerous though and I did throw a little tantrum off-camera, just like a proper teenager! I had to do the cap justice! 🤣🧢 We arrived home safely and were absolutely exhausted after a very long day's travelliing, so we just unpacked the Kwiddie and fell into bed! 😴
