7 1/2 Days in a Road Train - Part 1 of 5
Вставка
- Опубліковано 21 вер 2024
- Part 1 is the first installment of a 5 part series of videos that shows the detour I had to take in February 2022 to transport freight in a triple Road Train from Adelaide in South Australia to Darwin in the Northern Territory.
The Government had granted triple Road Trains supplementary access for 28 days to the Northern Territory via Burra in South Australia through New South Wales coming out at the bottom of Queensland. This was only ever a double Road Train route, triple Road Trains were not normally allowed on these roads.
I have taken my camera gear along with me on this seven and a half day road trip in a triple Road Train to film as much of the floods and journey that I thought might be of some interest to anyone. At the time of leaving Adelaide in South Australia, it was still raining along some of the roads that I would travel on causing road closures along the way. As I moved from State to State, I could only hope that these temporary road closures would not cause me to sit stationary waiting for areas to dry out so that I could continue.
Music in the video is available from EPIDEMIC SOUND https

Beautiful scenery from Oklahoma
It was a great rip with so much green countryside.
Thank you for taking the time to make a Video, The town was awesome, reminded me how it was back
in the 50's and 60,s when I was kid. not a jam with cars and people. loved it.
The run shown here min this video was something out of the ordinary for me as it wasn't my normal trip route. Something that I will always remember as being one of my favorite trips. Glad you liked it.
So nice green outback after that big rain change the scenery. Love the truck.
Green everywhere on this trip, glad you liked it.
Great content, really authentic with informative narrations. Gives a really natural view of the journey without distraction. Thanks for taking the effort to produce and share.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video👍
Man 3 trailers you folks rock

Hi, just found your channel. My dad drove road trains Adelaide to Darwin and across the Nullabor his whole life. Long before mobile phones and UA-cam, so this was wonderful for me to watch. Thanks 😊I’ll keep watching!
Thank you Robyn, your dad would have had a very different life back then to what it is today. Just the mobile phone to be able to talk to love ones has been a a big game changer.
If he was driving in the 60`s when the high way was dirt across the Nullabour and went across on the train, there is a good chance that I met him at Cook.
@@marinotagliapietra7839 he definitely was driving that route in the 60’s. So nice to think that you may have met 😊
My god this is awesome, being cooped up in my small apartment in japan this is awesome to watch, very very interesting keep em coming Mick !!!
Thanks Arch, glad you like them.
Hi there mate, imagine that a lorry driver from Poland is fellowing your episodes which provide me an insight of what the country I want to set foot in one day is like.
Love your accent folks 🇵🇱👍
Cheers, glad you liked it👍
I have to say that I am impressed by the skill and knowledge that you and other Road Train drivers have. The beautiful landscapes of Australia is amazing. Thanks for sharing this with us.
You are more than welcome Pointing Dog, glad you liked it.
Far out! All that country is so green. Went down that way to Adelaide from Brisbane with the old man a couple of years ago and it was absolutely burnt to a crisp. Incredible the difference a bit of time and rain can make!
The country is looking exceptionally great at the moment. When Sally and I were there a number of years ago the road between Longreach and Winton had so much road kill on it we gave up counting the kill and concentrated on escaping the rotting smell.
Thanks so much for taking the time to do this video series. I am able to see so much of your beautiful country. 🚜🇨🇦
Glad you enjoy it, we are lucky to have a country like we do.
Great travel video showing the real Strayla Mick. Love those big blue skies.
Blue skies, green grass, orange sunsets, it doesn't get much better.
Absolutely brilliant Mick. Extremely interesting. Thanks.
Thanks Chris, plenty more to come in the series.
Thanks for posting this, likely the only way I'll see your country as I'm 76. I have had a desire to see Australia and New Zealand for decades and you'll enable me to see at least some of it. I look forward to following your series. Thanks again.
Thanks Marv, next part out next weekend.
Nice video and good luck from Old South Wales in the UK 👍
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video👍 All the best to you in the UK.
That looks beautiful
Cheers, thanks.
Thanks Mick, really enjoyed the episode, looking forward to the next one👍. Thank you 🙏
Thanks David, glad you are enjoying them.
Part one is great. Looking forwards to the next ones. Pro drivers like you make it look easy
Thanks Jill, Part 2 out in two weeks time.
Mick is a good operator. This is real outback trucking, not "drama every mile" self promoters like the at times cringe worthy TV show. Real truck drivers just going out and doing it every day.

Glad you enjoyed it, lots more to come in the next 4 parts.
Great to see the Barrier Highway with edgelines and sealed shoulders finally! A lot better condition than I remember as a kid 15 to 20 years ago!
Unfortunately the shoulders have been damaged in some locations along the Barrier Highway from the recent rains with big washouts. With a bit of repair work it will be back to it's former glory again.
Great stuff Mick, always in awe of you guys driving the triples, looking forward to all 5 videos, cheers mate
Glad you liked it, a new video will go up every second Saturday. This is of course as long as I am home to do it and not out in the truck.

Thank you Dianne, the videos will be uploaded every second Saturday as long as I am home to do it and not away in the truck. I think things will settle down now and get back to normal so keep an eye out for the next one in two weeks time.
Hello mate, your videos is awesome! and I can tell you, you have better roads than we have in the U.K ! :)
Thank you, but let me say we have some shocking roads as well. In saying that, yes we are reasonably lucky with our roads here in Australia, 👍
Awesome video mick.
Great to see that beautiful country after the big wet and those endlessly straight highways. The big triple road train in it's element.Love it.

There now for the viewing malcolm, hope you like it.
If i didn't know better i would have thought that you are driving through South Africa. Same roads, same weather, exactly the same.
A lot of people have said the same thing.
Great video, I would love to experience life running a R/T , I drive a S580 over in Scotland. You have the beautiful wide openness, and respect from other road users. Here we are always looking out what stunt the car n van drivers will pull on us next . Look forward for your next blog . Take care n safe driving. JD

Thanks Mick for great video. I have the utmost respect for truckie, they do marvellous job under trying conditions at times. To be traversing the "real" Australia must be an awesome experience and even when on the same route time and again, the ever changing scenery , because of weather etc, surely would keep it interesting. May your journey continue to be safe and hassle free.
Thank you Jackie, yest the changing scenery and the weather make it different all the time, glad you enjoyed the video.
Thanks Mick, really enjoyed this episode, looking forward to the others..
Thanks Bob, 4 more Parts in the series to come.
Thanks mate.

Next week i sart my CIII driving operations for HR, im finding your videos so informative, love the way you describe the little things, thanks mate for taking the time to make these.
Cheers, glad you like what you see.👍
Great video Mick. I think I missed my calling. I should have become a truck driver. However, watching your very entertaining and informative videos gives me a greater appreciation of the sort of difficulties you encounter, such as oncoming motorists not giving you room when they can see you are doing a turn. I think that in turn makes me a better and more 'truck aware' driver. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to the rest of your trip.
Glad you enjoyed it. I think it is unawareness about what to do around larger vehicles that is the reason for other road users to do what they do when near us, tolerance by all is the way to go.
It looks nice mate but unless your an owner driver, its a long lonely drive.
@@Steve211Ucdhihifvshi it would be if done on a regular basis.

Fantastic video Mick!! I always dreamt of being a long distance truckie when I was a young teenager growing up in Perth, used to watch all the interstate rigs coming in to Perth down Greenmount Hill.
Instead I ended up joining the Navy, stayed in for 20 odd years and then went into IT! At 57 I think that any truck driving opportunity has long since gone!! 🙁
Watching these videos is the closest I’ll get, so very many thanks for posting them!! 👍

Thanks for showing Yunta. I did my apprenticeship at what was then A E (Alby) Sherriff's BP Oasis Garage, It is now the Ampol Truck Stop and the last building on the left as you head out of town en route to the "Hill". My Late parents and brother had what was the then Mannahill Store .. This was in the 60's and gee it brought a tear to my eyes.
That is awesome, it is rather sad to see these small towns reduced to what they are now.

Awesome video, Brings back some wonderful memories of Cobar n Bourke. Early 80s We got the owner of a sheep station to go into town and get us some boooz and we all got drunk in his wool shed. It was a party. In the morning the owner came and was lost for words as he saw how tidy his shed was. You could eat your breaky on the floor. We were 5/7 B Coy.

I found it amazing to travel so far around Australia and to see it green for the majority of the trip. It just illustrated how far and wide the rain has been. Solo is certainly different to being 2-up, been a while since I have done a trip on my own.

I like watching your videos mate. I would love to get out west at some stage in my career and drive road trains. Currently a b-double driver on the east coast. I wish the roads here were as empty as the ones you drive along.
I try to only film when the roads are empty as it is viewed as safer to do so but yes the roads have a lot less traffic than the east coast.
