Yeah, an M-14 variant ticks all the boxes. It's mostly wood, and with a 5 round magazine in it for walking around to most people it looks no different than a "hunting rifle." The platform is cost to feed it. Even rolling my own .308, and not factoring in my time or reloading equipment, with the cost of components, it's still hitting close close to a $1. $9,600ish per year cost of .308 ammo, verses $3,100 for 5.56. ....and yes, $6,500 difference a year is not fun for me, but YMMV.

If it's SHTF, anyone with ANY weapon (especially a rifle, as opposed to a pistol that is hidden) will be seen as a possible threat. So you may as well as have serious firepower.
I’ve been doing something similar with my cameras for years, actually. The bearded guy with a dslr immediately looks way more suspicious, like I’m definitely up to no good. But when I use an old film camera, just holding something vintage looking in front of my face softens the assumptions about me tenfold. It’s like going undercover as a hipster, nobody feels threatened by a hipster.
Camo wraps actually do a lot better than wood furniture. Camo wraps are usually seen exclusively on hunting rifles and shotguns, so when people see it on your rifle, they’ll assume it’s a hunting weapon.
Saw a native Alaskan carrying a 20" AR. For bear or whatever. Dropped a caribou in one shot. He was talking about shot placement and the ability to fire a lot of shots accurately.
I agree with Brass Facts- in most scenarios, a CCW or PDW will be ideal for SHTF, at least for low intensity environments; if it isn’t readily apparent that you’re armed, most people won’t pay any attention. Even grandpa’s old deer gun could attract the wrong sort of attention.
awesome video blue jean... In Canada we are really limited... my Mag uses Henry rifles in 357 mag.. even though all wooden stocked still they are all are tricked out... our group wears subdued gear olive green pants , shirts and hunter camo cold weather jackets...
If it is SHTF...I don't care how you dress, what weapon you have, or how friendly you are. Your a danger too me, until I say you are not! Trust must be earned!
Maybe 20 years ago this might have been useful. Given there are so many finishes and colors for modern AR furniture, all I see from a distance is an AR patterned rifle regardless of color. It also doesn't help that you're running a 30 round mag. It'd go further to break the traditional outline if it was loaded with a 5 or 10 rounder.
M&P15 sport 2 and my M&P 2.0 9mm seems to be perfect combo... pistol wont die (see micha mayfeild) and the AR is perfectly servicable (many upgrades already on mine)
If not available, AR10 with a 20 or 30 round mag better than 5.56 against those big animals. If doing the .308/7.62 NATO, I would choose the FAL or PTR91/actual H&K original. My old FAL was fitted with a scope mount and scope that also did not block a clear view on my iron sights for close engagement scenarios. I'm not concerned about anyone deciding to engage because of a 30 rd mag or more. Honestly, I think a bigger mag might make a maroooon think twice as compared to sticking a 5 rd mag on a rifle that is clearly the type capable of taking 20, 30, 42, 60 rd mags or drums. Instead of wood AR furniture, a mix of different colored furniture parts, home made spray painting, camo netting and fabric/clothe will do a lot to disguise what you're carrying. Better to move in small groups, especially multiple teams than let a bozo or few engage for anything. Some low tech comms and predetermined ROE, training, and flexibility to change anything might out maneuver anything but professionals. Let's hope we tend to come together more than crash heads, atleast with other Americans, allies, cultural, religious, similar types and join against our collective enemies and pray they don't blend in.
From any of distance there is a stark disconnect between a 'good ol boy' with a rifle slung over his back and a dude running a 3 point sling and ready for go time. You see that shape long before you see the furniture.
Mini 14 with the full wood stock and a Aimpoint style red dot (nothing blocky), to regular people it's a small hunting rifle with a little scope. Low pro black plate carrier without molle, spare mags on a battle belt.
Having sold guns for a couple years in Alaska at a sporting goods counter... SHTF in AK, anything that shoots .30-06 or .45-70 GOVT will suffice as a nice primary weapon (for a mix of good stopping power and sheer proliferation). Lots of guys would come in from the bush looking for .30-06 "yellow box" (Remington) as their favorite, but would gladly settle for the blue box (Federal) if we didn't have Remington ammo in stock (those 20 rounds could last them the YEAR before they got back to town). Same with the .45-70 (got to love those lever guns), with .30-30 as an honorable mention. I know, some people are wondering why Weatherby belted magnums weren't so much more popular, but hey, that's what rich tourist get sold by Texas based licensed Alaskan game guides that fly in to guide hunts on Kodiak Island.
Most of the guys in my deer hunting group are old traditionalists. They like wood and steel and are apprehensive about ARs as a hunting rifle. I built a 450 bushmaster with Woox furniture and they seem to like it. My father's cousin, who's not familiar with the AR-15 was surprised when I told him what my rifle was. I chose Woox just because I liked how it looked, but I do think that it takes the "scariness" away for those whose only knowledge of the AR are the lies told to them by the news media.
M1 carbine with the paratrooper folding stock. Exceptionally light weight, easy to carry lots of mags with a small to medium satchel. When folded it mostly conceals in a backpack (barrels might poke out top or bottom depending on the bag)
I would also suggest using a 10-20 round mag rather than a 30 in a rifle like the Woox. The big mag is one of the high viz features of a fighting rifle. If you put a 10 rounder in it, it immediately - at least in my thinking - could lower the “goon” factor.
A 10mm pistol has better penitration than 5.56 in gell with Underwood 200 grain hard cast. I the area around Yellowstone park has had a lot of bear atacks 90% have been stopped with 10mm.
Woox walnut furniture looks great, but what about just using brown polymer furniture, like brown rit dyed FDE? I’ve had similar ideas along the same lines as you, but you’d avoid such a heavy chonk rifle while maintaining the same non-threatening “demure” look. Btw, I too am also a fan of the ADAR 2-15 rifle from Tarkov.
@@WetWiIIy lets be real here: for all that matters you could just choose a brown rattle can and cover you habdguard, lower and stock in brown paint. If you want a "hunting rifle look" you would then ad a scope on it and use primarly a short magazin like a 3 wounder or so that does not stick out to give it the impression on a distance that this is a more "traditional" hunting rifle. What he does is simply there to sell you more or less useless, fancy ar accessories. I doubt that throwing 2 wooden parts on an AR would fool anyone at a distance. And that anyone would recognize it as wood.
Mini 14. Leave the regular stock with no pistol grip, you can get flush 5 round or barley extending 10 round mags that make the gun look less scary, you can carry larger 20 or 30or even drums in ur kit, less scary mags In the gun, if you were to get into a gun fight against somebody with an AR you wouldn’t necessarily be under gunned, I’ve thought about this alot too lol
I live in a very anti-gun state with an AW ban, and I have an old Norinco SKS for exactly this reason. It's got a "non-detachable" internal magazine which exempts it from the AW restrictions, and without the bayonet the average person who doesn't know guns can't tell it apart from a bolt-action hunting rifle. In a SHTF scenario, swapping the internal magazine for a detachable one is simple (not that I would know Mr Fed who reads all my posts). It was also dirt cheap and I'm a poor, so there's that.
WOW, also what type of brown AR-15 rail mount is that, where can I get ya cap & what radio headset model were u wearing? Like u used a PMAG® 30 AR/M4 GEN M3™ Window in medium coyote brown color for ya AR-15! :D

The fact you have a pistol grip on a rifle is a clear indication you have an AR15 and that will be noticed before the wood furniture.
Wait, I thought "gooning" was a bedroom maneuver.
Great Video again as always. I hope people are thinking about if it does hit the fan what is your medical, food, water, shelter and poop situation.
That Stache Hit The Fan
Guy with a gun at a distance=bad guy at a distance.
Love the 40k-vibe.
Not far from looking like a Las-rifle.
awesome video blue jean... In Canada we are really limited... my Mag uses Henry rifles in 357 mag.. even though all wooden stocked still they are all are tricked out... our group wears subdued gear olive green pants , shirts and hunter camo cold weather jackets...
Love videos that make me think! Definitely looking forward to more videos like this Mr. Blue Jean.
If it is SHTF...I don't care how you dress, what weapon you have, or how friendly you are. Your a danger too me, until I say you are not! Trust must be earned!
Great video but for the intention of this video I would rather have the Springfield Armory M1A TANKER .308 RIFLE with the wood stock.
Blue Jean says: "NEVER GOON!"
My CETME-C (Century C-308 with steel grip and wood handguard/stock) is tasteful, inconspicuous and hard-hitting.
Fightlite SCR is your answer. I've come to similar lines of thinking
A person with a gun is a person with a gun no f****ing matter how the gun looks especially in a shtf situation
M&P15 sport 2 and my M&P 2.0 9mm seems to be perfect combo... pistol wont die (see micha mayfeild) and the AR is perfectly servicable (many upgrades already on mine)
edging?
Dude you can find a can of fuckin brown paint that matches that color at ace for twelve bucks....
NOOOOOOO,
I got money to burn
I've been back in a farcry 5 kick for the last few weeks, so i loved the intro music. Cool video brother
If only someone created a bolter, one a normal human could use. That could deal with a grizzly.
Finally, a UA-camr with an intelligent take on the shtf stuff.
Look if shtf the threat is people in general. Peaceful coexistence is fine until the food runs out.
Just FYI, ARs come in more calibers that .223/5.56. .450 Bushmaster or .458 SOCOM will do a number on big bears.
Brother, im glad im not the only guy that rocks clean shaven with a stash
Just gotta edge up I guess
BJO UA-cam gun nerd voice always makes me lol
The wood looks beautiful! I thought it might have been leather at first.
"Or Alien Invasion" *Cuts to an Imperial Guardsmen* "Emperor Protects!!!"
OR my M-1 Garand, or my M-1A Scout. Maybe my M 94 Winchester.
Top 5 mustaches
It’s getting there
Top 5 boners.
M1 carbine with the paratrooper folding stock. Exceptionally light weight, easy to carry lots of mags with a small to medium satchel. When folded it mostly conceals in a backpack (barrels might poke out top or bottom depending on the bag)
10:00 - Painting the AR furniture with a darker brown instead of multicam or FDE would also work, for a lot lower investment.
Pairing up that bag with a bail out bag or standard bandolier may be an interesting option.
I like that Marauder Threadworks 'Death is Assured' hat.
What kind of gooning?
M1 garand is the ultimate SHTF rifle change my mind.
you got me so messed up if you think im cool with fighting a tyrannid with a 556
Ranger point precision is the new black scary lever action in the woods.
nice video man, I like the variety of gear you showcase
I would also suggest using a 10-20 round mag rather than a 30 in a rifle like the Woox. The big mag is one of the high viz features of a fighting rifle. If you put a 10 rounder in it, it immediately - at least in my thinking - could lower the “goon” factor.
My go to home defense rifle isn’t my ar15s (maybe my ar15 in .458 socom) but the rifle I keep next to my bed is my marlin 1894 45-70 guide gun
A 10mm pistol has better penitration than 5.56 in gell with Underwood 200 grain hard cast. I the area around Yellowstone park has had a lot of bear atacks 90% have been stopped with 10mm.
I'm so glad zombies aren't the SHTF LARP fantasy anymore.
ADAR-2 is a real gun mate :)
@ Yeah, but don’t tell me you didn’t learn about it through Tarkov
Rambo in First Blood (novel) used a .30-30 lever gun with great effective.
Thank you for the information, Tactical Ashton Kutcher.
Why the fuck do you type like this, are you are you ai generating your comments?
I think that's where a simple ar with just a light, optic, and sling would be ideal. Capable, but low key. (Bounus points for fixed carry handle)
That Woox AR is screaming for a OG Colt 20 round mag with a nice patina.
M1 or SKS my guy. The protruding mag of an AR is still a huge silhouette changer.
You could probably do something similar on a budget with a lightly equipped ALICE system. That with a jacket over it would work great.
