  • What is a turnaround? If you're a blues harmonica player, it's a neglected but critical part of the 12-bar blues progression. You need some new licks for that! And you need somebody to break them down for you, step by step. With Adam Gussow of ModernBluesHarmonica.com

    So I'm about to be 53. I love "almost" anything music but I never had the "time" to learn anything. Just like every other kid I always had a couple of harmonicas laying under my bed. But you sir have got me making music. Thank you!

      Yes! That is pretty much exactly what I'm doing. Truth is, there are a LOT of turnarounds that I just couldn't bring up on a moment's notice--and some of them can be found in the lesson that link in the extended video description.

    Hair Professor...thanks for your all your teaching all over here...so...when Sonny Boy and Sonny Terry play they sometime poke a finger or two under the covering hand to "feel" the harp....WHAT IS THE DEAL? I have tried it and like it but don't know why. Why do we palpate the spine of the harp..."tickled" to find out your research !

    Professor .... that one turnaround you called diminished strikes me as a ragtime tone . It just has that color to it and due to my lack of theory I don’t know how to better explain it . I think it’s because releasing the tension ascending instead of descending the pitch .

    What is the trick in keeping your lips moist while playing?

    • @gussowsclassicbluesharmoni2726
      @gussowsclassicbluesharmoni2726  6 років тому

      Several tricks. First, stay hydrated. If you're licking your lips, that's your body's way of saying you're dehydrated. (I'm speaking here as a longtime distance runner in Mississippi.) Second, Chapstick or Burt's Bees.

    Gussow, Is it okay to plug mic into guitar amp? Iam asking because it isnt recomended. My amp is brnad of Peavey. Thanks Master

    • @kevinclark8935
      @kevinclark8935 6 років тому +1

      Hi Emanuel.Yes you can.But to satisfy your concerns-go to UA-cam and type in "Peavey amp for harmonica". Keep practicing!!

    • @ZvikaDror
      @ZvikaDror 6 років тому

      You need an impedance adapter, otherwise your sound will be very very weak. The harmonica microphones have the proper impedance for an instrument amp (about 1000 / 1k ohm), but Vocal microphones need the adapter since they have low impedance (about 100-300 ohm)

    • @emanuelungero5979
      @emanuelungero5979 6 років тому

      well i checked my mic and it says 600ohm its vocal mic but thanks for recomendation

    • @nacoran
      @nacoran 6 років тому +1

      Yes! You do have to make sure your mic and amp have matched impedance (as already mentioned) or your sound will be weak, but most amps were guitar amps before someone decided that they sounded good for harp. Some amps will sound better than others. If you've got setting on the amp you can dial in the sound with some practice. I have a cheap Park solid state amp that I use. (Park is a brand that Marshal used to use to sell discontinued parts.) Never heard of anyone else using it for harp, but it's got two gain knobs that let me control the distortion and a built in reverb to fill out the sound. It took a while to figure out how to dial it in, (and because no one else was using it no one could tell me what I needed to do).
      Some amps work better than others. If you are buying an amp it's useful to know what other people find useful, but if you already have an amp, just play with it and see if you can get a sound you like. If you really work at it and can't, well maybe it's not a good harp amp, but there is no risk in trying!
