  • TotalEnergies discoveries of Brulpadda and Luiperd have sparked huge interest in the deepwater Southern Outeniqua Basin, offshore South Africa. Here we look at these large discoveries, review what we know about them and some of the other prospectivity in the area.
These gas condensate discoveries are reservoired in Lower Cretaceous (Albian) sandstones deposited as deep marine turbidite fans. Hydrocarbons are stratigraphically trapped against the Diaz Ridge and have a clear AVO response.
We also review the New Age block to the North East which is on trend with the Paddavssie fairway, where a large analogue prospect has been mapped and will hopefully be drilled in the near future.
We also touch upon how these discoveries may be developed and what this may mean for South Africa's energy mix.

Glad you to hear your dulcet tones Mark……but do you really pronounce “breeders dorp” basin that way?🤔 ……old stomping grounds eh?…..glad they got it all drilled in the end!

Hello Graham. Thanks for watching the video. I hope you liked it. I believe the pronunciation is as in 'Breadasdorp' not 'Breedasdorp' (but spelt 'Bredasdorp'). I also believe there is an emphasis on the second syllable too. Have a nice day! Mark
