It depends how close you are to broadcast towers and all. Depending where you live a paper clip
    Can become a good antenna.

This antenna will work about as well as rabbit ears. You will be able to receive channels within about 10 miles of the transmitter. Other than that , you will need to install an outdoor antenna. There are some good ones available. You can expect to pay around $100 for a decent one.

Yes....I knew this bit with the TV Key was total nonsense. I don't see how this tiny device with NO directionality could possibly do ANYTHING. I went with the 1ByOne HD antenna. Got it from Amazon. It was $40 and I get 32 channels of EXCELLENT PICTURE QUALITY. I'm very happy with this antenna.

Hello Rick. Today 99% of all TV stations in the US are in the UHF region. Most TV stations are now digital. UHF signals have a very hard time penetrating walls and other hard surfaces even glass windows. The other half of the equation is the digital part. TV signals used to be transmitted as an analog signal which meant you could receive a weak signal and still see the picture. WIth digital you are dealing with the capture effect, which means either you have the signal or you don't. In most cases you need an outdoor antenna to have good reception and even then it's hit and miss with UHF.

In theory they are correct you can receive TV signals under the right conditions. What you have in that antenna is called a dipole antenna which is the most basic of antennas. You can make the same antenna yourself from two equal lengths of wire like a coat hanger and have a better antenna than what you have and it's free.

Bought one... JUNK !!!! THEN..... I got an Antenna for $16.99 by Elecwave. First, I said since it's cheap, I just use the Booster for something else, since it's cheap. OMG, to my surprised, it worked better than ANY Antenna I've tried. YES, I have tried ClearStream, Mohu Leaf, ONN, etc..... NOTE: Currently, I am testing inside and I got 43+ Channels, indoor, imagine when I bring it outside!

PSS. By the way, if you move the Digital Antenna you (Must do a channel Rescan) there is no way of getting around this, you have (disrupted its Physical Location), Moving it will change the signal path. Digital reception is Very Sensitive and different from Analog. You must do a channel rescan.

Not surprised, but thanks for being the guinea pig for the rest of us. Yeah, I love the ClearTV commercial that’s trying to make something that’s been around for 70+ yrs sound revolutionary. It may be small and digital, but it’s just a TV antenna at the end of the day. And of course all of those channels were always free, but they would never tell us that 😆

  • @xallarap99
    @xallarap99 5 років тому +1

In my opinion, Clear TV promotional ads are intentionally misleading. To begin with, the term "digital antenna" is false. A Television antenna is essentially a piece of metal (or an array
of pieces of metal) cut to lengths that will capture radio signals within a certain frequency range (or multiple frequency ranges) of the RF spectrum. There is absolutely nothing about a receiving antenna that distinguishes whether an RF signal is digital or analog, much less that can favor a digital signal. By their use of the term "digital antenna" as a selling point, Clear TV is deceptively asserting falsehood in effort to convince potential customers of an advantage that doesn't exist. Likewise, the company's assertion that their antenna products are "4K Ready" is more of the same. An antenna simply cannot distinguish or provide tailored benefit to a 4K digital signal. To the antenna, an RF signal is merely electromagnetic energy on a particular frequency. Through such deceptive claims, the manufacturer of Clear TV antenna products has been manipulating folks for years into purchasing their indoor antenna devices. Please understand that I'm not suggesting those products will not serve as functional indoor television antennas. I'm saying that the company knowingly pitches their mostly-nothing-special products through hypeful mischaracterizations and false assertions. And I call that scamming.
Please realize that receiving antennas in and of themselves do not possess the capability to process, decompress, or assemble signal data. That is, of course, unless one of them happens to
be equipped with digital processing circuitry and appropriate firmware (which would provide a separate function from that of the antenna itself). That said, digital signal decoding/processing is neither the role nor the function of a stand-alone receiving antenna. Instead, and specifically in the case of a digital television, it's a function performed by the receiver's digital decoder circuitry (i.e., its binary processing stage) in conjunction with specialized onboard firmware, which are both unrelated to the function of a connected antenna beyond its signal source facilitation.
I won't spend much time on the further manipulations contained in Clear TV's ad promotions, such as the false but persistent implication that their antenna products may somehow facilitate
cable or other pay-tv programming reception. Such a feat would of course be impossible. I'll simply say that in my opinion Clear TV's ad promotions have been replete with false statements and manipulative comments seemingly structured to enhance the company's bottom line. Besides the deception in advertising, in my view Clear TV antenna products are simply unremarkable. Their benefits can easily be duplicated (or even surpassed) by combining around 30 minutes of time, a few feet of copper wire, some duct tape, a sheet of cardboard, rigid plastic, plexiglass, or plywood, and a short piece of coaxial cable or some 300 ohm twin-lead with an appropriate RF connector.
Lastly, it is important to understand that when comparing any two indoor television antennas the digital signal reception quality from them should seem virtually identical as long as the
digital binary streams (i.e., all of the 1's and 0's) are fully detected by the device's decoder stage. Generally, a digital television's RF receiver will pass the stream data to the decoder stage where, as long as the signal's integrity remains intact, decoding will occur just as efficiently as if the data came directly from a DVD disk or other local media source. This means that a weak digital television signal, whose reception quality would appear snowy (i.e., noisy) if it were an analog signal, can produce identically superb quality to that experienced when viewing the same data stream from a local DVD disk. That is to say, with digital broadcast television, a weak (and noisy) signal should play on your screen at DVD quality. In other words, since a digital television can often interpret all of the 1's and 0's superimposed on such a weak, noisy digital signal, in many cases there's virtually no benefit in being closer to the broadcast source or having a better antenna. The signal level need only remain slightly above the pixelation/*cliff effect* threshold point for said optimal digital quality to ensue.

The above is not to say that a more sensitive replacement antenna (i.e., one with a greater gain value) that has better resonance on the channels/frequencies being tested will not result in stronger signals for a television's receiver and thus, perhaps, a greater number of available channels. Such an improved antenna may do just that. My point is simply this: Barring any significant packet loss, a weak digital television signal from a given broadcast source received through an inferior antenna can easily render the same level of digital quality at the receiver (the TV) that a better antenna nearer the same broadcast source will produce. Stated another way, both the inferior antenna with its weak signal and the better antenna with its stronger signal should render indistinguishable video and audio quality from the same broadcast stream. Drop-out periods, pixelations and screen freezes will only happen when a signal dips below the minimum threshold (cliff effect).
Clear TV indoor antennas are merely conductive materials cut to length. The false assertions and misleading characterizations in the company's promotional ads are why I personally consider their marketing methods scammish.

DON'T GIVE UP ON IT!!!. In my experience - Lots of digital antennas take time for signals to adjust in new areas. I recently bought Clear TV Key and it's just starting to work. I started with 4 channels - Now it's progressing to 7 channels. Little by little it will give off new channels. Just be patient. It works !!! Give it about a week or so and keep scanning the channels from time to time. It'll get there. Don't expect it to work fully right away. Remember - It's not a cable box.

I know it not suppose to be an outdoor antenna but I would like to see if it would pick up any stations

I mean it's basically supposed to stop folks from doing dangerous stuff like using paper clips as antenna. maybe it was the unit itself.... although those should be tested far before reaching you. Um, most people old enough to buy a big TV should know how antennas work - Large external antennas will pick up many things, the very small in house clear TV antenna can boost stations you ALREADY get without it. Maybe pick up 3 or 4 more channels. For Sale on Ebay for $ 1.99 - it is little more than a flat metal bar with coax connection - the most basic antenna.
I have found the powered and filtered mesh or bunny ear antennas are plenty good enough for my urban area.
For rural settings out in the country - if you have any stations to pick up - you will most definitely want to run a cable out to your external antenna, large roof mounted device. Be careful to ground it off so you don't turn your TV into a lightening rod !

dude, you should of went to clear tv website, they have FAQ page, you wouldn't be bitching...they explain about...How many channels can I receive over the air?
A Reception will vary based on factors like geography and location of the broadcast signal; antenna, hills, buildings and even tall trees can impact reception. It is recommended that you be within 25 miles of a broadcast antenna. Most households can receive these popular networks: PBS, NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, ION, CW, Qubo - a children’s channel, 24-hour sports programming, a 24-hour classic movie channel, 24-hour news and weather, and popular Spanish-language channels: Azteca, Univision, Telemundo, TeleFutura, may also be

Rick, your right? This antenna will work but you have to buy a cable adapter so you can extended towards a window. I wanted to tell you to review clear tv's newest antenna a little $ 10.00 dollar premium 4k ready that sticks to the table and has little [ I kid you not rabbit ears you can pull up] Also I loved the MR. Peanut sneakers [ I going to try and get a pair ], and the review you did on The Tac flash light. When you fried it? Was the funniest? You have a good sense of humor.

I have the original flat Clear tv antenna and I cant get it to give me stations without pixelation. total channels are 14. What kind of antenna do you have, Rick?To me, it all a waste of money. I dont have Dish network or direct Tv because of how bad the signal comes in on a clear day, imagine what it does on a light rainy day, uggg. I currently have an antenna like what you have but a bit bigger and twice the height and the mast is about a 2" to 2 1/2" pole on the southern side of the home. its damaged by storms but not hooked to anything and the connectors are worn/fused from too much exposure to the elements. Its way to high to get to even from the roof. I would need 3 people to help me pull this pole down, fix or replace the damaged UHF/VHF antenna and then look at using splitters for both bedroom and front living room. Im about 12 miles east/northest of Monroe, LA. Maybe thats why the antenna wont work on the east window and why I had to add 25' of coax to move the antenna towards the western side of the home. what a pain but still it sucks.
