- Pasteta or Pâté is a mixture of cooked ground meat and fat minced into a spreadable paste. I've insulted this stuff over the years, but decided to take my friend's advice and try Argeta brand. It's sold in almost every single shop in Serbia. The brand I chose is called "Pikant" which I assume is similar to the Spanish word picante which means something spicy. See what I think about this product.

Fyi, Argeta pašteta is a product from Argo, later known as Droga Portorož and later as Droga Kolinska. It is all Slovenian product and only thing it has in common with Serbians it is that, back then, it was Yugoslavia.

Also, you need Jogurt with it. Bread, pašteta and jogurt - complete meal. Maybe to add some side salad to make it rich. ;)

Try this recipe at home, this is a domestic pasteta
Pašteta od kokoške (pileta)
1 koka ili pile - 100 g suve
slanine - 15 zelenih maslina - 3 kisela krastavca - 3 tvrdo kuvana jajeta - 1
kašika kapra - 2 kašike senfa - 200 g kisele pavlake - 1 tuba (85 g) majoneza -
150 g maslaca - sok od 1 limuna - so - biber
Kokošku(pile)
obarite,očistiti od kostiju, odstraniti kožicu i masne delove i čisto meso
ohladite i sameljite u mašini za meso. Uz to sameljite slaninu, masline,
krastavce, jaja i kapar.Ponovo celu masu sameljite (pirirajte) u mikseru.Dobro
umutite ručnim mikserom piriranu masu sa kiselom pavlakom,majonezom, omekšalim
maslacem, senfom,sokom,od limuna,solju i biberom.
Ostavite u hladnjaku 24 sata.
Služite hladnu uz tost.
Ja ovo sve meljem u "secku"
Add something on it to enrich the flavour, some like to put a bit of salt and pepper, a bit of ground paprika, i like to put a bit of mayo or mustard or ketchup on it because "clean" version becomes a bit boring soon, Pikant is shortcut from pikantno that means spicy (allso from other comments, you have to try adding Ajvar or Kajmak; it goes good with yogurt(Dukat or family brands are my favourite)

Argeta Pate is Slovene product. We have sold the brand sadly.
This stuff is good we bring so much back to america every year from kosovo
And btw it is usually made from poultry liver.

Charles kako nisi bio na Palicu kad si isao u Suboticu jos 2014! Trebao bi da ga posetis sad kada je lepo vreme ima puno stvari da se vidi. Jezero, zoo vrt, gradjevine, najpoznatija je vodotoranj, teren FK Palic, plaza na kraju setalista, Velika terasa, zenski i muski strand, restorani su dobri, Omega, Ribja carda, Paprika carda, Mala gostiona. There are also nice hotels you can choose like President, Palville, Villa Milord and few more near the Palic lake. I think you'd have a great time in Palic with your little crew so I hope you visit it! I am not living in Palic at the moment but I will be back for whole summer, but if you wish to visit it I might just come and give you a better guide it needed for a day since Im really close in Subotica. If not, I could just give you more details!

Charles when are you going to document a farm smokehouse and try some home made sourcrout cooked with smoked pigs ears, belly and ribs. Also the Serbian peka wich bakes the best bread with some home made "Pasulj" and smoked ribs.
You probably do have a city place that serves this but it doesnt cover the experience when you are on a farmland living and breathing that life.
Please add that to your to do list for a Serbian soul food experience. I doubt that there wouldnt be a family out there that would help you out with that.

Not so much. "Pikant" doesn't mean anything. It's shorten version from word pikantno used mostly in food product not in real conversation.
In croatian/serbian "pikantno" means something with stronger or just strange taste.

Hi! You have to try homemade duck liver or chicken liver pâté ? This may not be as good as a true foie gras, but it's similar enough in flavor for a dish that costs only pennies to make. Friendly advice: do not buy and do not eat pate in Serbia :) The content of them is unpredictable ! :D
Zdravo, treba da probaš domaću paštetu od pačije ili pileće jetre. One nisu toliko dobre kao foie gras, ali su sličnog ukusa i ne koštaju mnogo. Prijateljski savet: nemoj kupovati, niti jesti paštete u Srbiji . Sadržaj im je nepredvidiv. :)

You don't have to apologize for not liking some food. You're not expected to love everything. It's okay, you can still dislike most of pasteta, even though 1 brand is good. Though It is good to admit you made a mistake, that is always a good quality. To be able to change. But we don't have to be always right. I guess you can say it's a thing of perspective.

This is a chicken pasteta,the original one is made from cow's liver.
I'm 100% Serbian, born and have lived in Belgrade my whole life and yes, pašteta is crap. I would say it's better to spread shit on bread than that stuff. It's made from the worst parts of "meat" that cannot be sold like the regulars slices in markets. So you don't need to be apologetic, you were right from the start, it's shit and you should avoid it.
