I use a small diameter snap gauge to measure the inside of the gas cylinder...and a outside micrometer to measure the op rod piston...then compare the difference to the specifications

That's a real good way too, thank you for sharing.

Have you ever heard of GI gas cylinder gauge? Invest in one. Foe the correct size it should be between .527-.528. The piston if it is bad can be replaced.

Yes I have, but haven't seen one in person yet.

Hey Norwich I have a question about this part of the rifle. I’ve noticed my gas port cylinder has a very tiny amount of side to side play, and upon asking several people if this is fine I’ve received answers ranging from I don’t need to worry about it, to it’s going to seriously mess up my shot accuracy. So I was just wondering what your day on the matter is? Thanks!

If the play on the barrel is what you are talking about yes it will, longer range and competition. Just pinking, forget about it.

Another question if using corrosive ammo should I remove this to clean after each shooting? I know you don't want to take this off to often, but would just removing the plug and screw be enough to clean?

After using corrosive ammo everything metal should be cleaned.

Why not get a GI Gas Cylinder Gauge

Lots of people can't afford GI tools.

Does it have to be off the rifle?

New to the rifle but question I have with rifle all together how much wiggle should the gas tube have?

Wiggle, the gas piston in the gas cylinder spacing? It should have some, but not sloppy. The piston should also be checked.
