When we look at older consoles and their problems than mostly it was GPU, RAM and most importantly in the case of the PS3 the complexity of the CPU not the power. And what is the problem of the Jaguar CPU ? I believe its more of an PC style CPU so it wont have same problems as the PS3 CPU which only a hand full devs. could get the full power out of it. On Paper the PS3 was stronger than Xbox 360 yet most multiplats did run and look better on the 360. Skyrim was probably the worst case scenario.

I've got to admit even as a Sony, Nintendo and PC Gamer, Scorpio is sounding more impressive by the day. It sounds like Microsoft really want to make up for rushing the XBOX One out of the door to compete with the PS4 by making something is ready to stand the tests of it's time and hopefully give it's customers something that'll last. Yes I love the PS4 Pro, Yes I love my PC, The Nintendo Switch I'm a little lukewarm towards but hopefully a few upcoming game titles may change that ;) all in all... this is great time to be a gamer...unless you're a prick.

I do see where your coming from man but I can't blame DF for that. For the longest time a huge amount of their work has come through Eurogamer but this time Microsoft actually called up Richard and said "Hey we've got something we want to reveal to you" and for DF getting the exclusive info on Scorpio before anyone else it's huge for their channel. On Microsoft's part I will admit I'd much rather see a Scorpio presentation but going through DF arguably the most trusted source in the industry right now was smart because you know if DF report something there's usually merit behind it. In any case it's great for Rich and the group but I do hope Microsoft reveal Scorpio themselves soon. Probably gonna be at E3 with a christmas release I'm guessing.

I don't understand why people keep saying it has no games. It will not only run the latest 3rd party games at much better quality than any other console, it will also have a good amount of exclusives this year and the upcoming years (as always). You could say they are not exclusive because they are on PC, but people who want a console still see it as an exclusive which is all that matters. I'm an example of this. I can easily afford a powerful gaming PC but I won't purchase one because I choose to play on console. There are A LOT of people like me who think the same way which is why not having a game available on PS4 is a big enough reason for people to choose one console over another. As many PS4 fans have been saying from the beginning, they choose their platform because it runs 3rd party games better than the original XB1 and XB1 Slim. Yes people look at exclusives as well, but the large majority of gamers care the most about having the best experience for 3rd party games which is why the Xbox 360 was a lot more popular than the PS3. What I'm trying to say is, Microsoft will be the platform holder with the best versions of 3rd party games again, which is a major step in the positive direction. They still have a great set of exclusive games coming this year and like Phil Spencer said before, they are working on expanding and improving their 1st party portfolio, but this simply takes time. You don't want rushed new games, we want quality new exclusives which will come. Sony announces their exclusives very early on, which means you sometimes have to wait 2 -3 years before you could actually play them. Microsoft did this as well but doesn't do it anymore because of how Scalebound turned out (a cancelled game). I also don't understand why people call this paid advertisement. Microsoft invited them to showcase the power of Scorpio, because they know Digital Foundry has been very critical towards the Xbox One performance which is why having Digital Foundry impressed by the power of Scorpio is a very strong strategy. They were so confident in their product, they chose the most tech based gaming channel to tear down the console and showcase the power. The fact that Digital Foundry is so fond on the power of the machine simply means they are impressed by it, especially considering it is a console that will be probably have competitive price for it's power.

No high end pc user would ever trade in their PC in first place. If they buy a console it is more convinience than anything else. Absolutely no platform could ever compete with PC when it comes exclusives. Even PS4 has no more than a couple of well recieved exclusives and no sane person would trade their pc with THOUSANDS of exclusives for a couple of games.

if you compare the performance of the forza engine demo to pc, it looks like the scorpio will outperform 1060 builds by quite some margin. Running 4k @60 on mostly xone settings (antisotropic filtering was allegedly high, 16x) is not easy, Let alone only 60-70% gpu usage! With that usage, this is more comparable to a 1070 builds performance. Add in the move from dx11 on xone's cpu to dx12 on scorpio's gpu WITH freesync 2.0 and HDMI 2.1 support and that just devastates hopes of this console being an underperformer.
IGN 10/10 Well it isn't as of now, but once developers utilize it more, it will get better. The reason Vulcan has worked better up to now is because it is simpler to work with. That's great, but when dx12 becomes the standard and developers learn the ins and out, I can only assume that it will be as good, if not better than Vulcan.
This is HUGE for both Xbox and AMD. My only question is, will this work for all xbox one and backwards compatible titles without the need for each game to be updated?

As a Playstation guy, I appreciate Scorpio bringing these things to the table, which should pressure and accelerate TV makers to evolve their hardware so it won't hold back gaming, whether it is HDR quality, input lag or frame sync
This one of the most impressive features of the Scorpio. Variable refresh rate opens the door to all kinds of things. Console gamers may even be able to experience the joy of higher than 60fps gameplay with FreeSync.
I don't think you understand what FreeSync does. You can still have a panel that doesn't display higher than 60fps that has FreeSync though most are 75hz at least. In addition I think I don't think developers would target higher than 60 fps as most don't even target 60 right now. If variable refresh rate comes to the mainstream I would just expect more games to have an unlocked frame rate with frame rates varying wildly from 20-70 fps because inconsistency is less noticeable with a variable refresh rate.

Rohan Garg It's about on par with a 1060 and the 1070 is one of the next most popular gpus next to that. The CPU in the Scorpio is still far worse than most pc parts.

+Slimm If you really wanted something powerful with "true uncompromised 4K" then build a damn PC that will suit your needs, this "evolved jaguar CPU" will slightly diminish the bottleneck, and it will have a hard launch because Playstation has the marketing rights for COD WW2,Battlefont 2, Red Dead Redemption 2, Destiny 2, yes I know the Scorpio will be able to play them at sparse rendered 4K but nobody will give a fuck when the OG PS4 is gunna be $250. And even if Scorpio manages to come out at $450-$499, the PS4 Pro will be cheaper and people won't know the difference between them like you and me.

Yesss!!! I love my 144Hz freesync with my RX 480, anywhere from 35-144 is my monitor's range. It makes 50 fps feel like 70 and 70 feel like 90! Buttery smooth greatness!

Very awesome! I got a G-sync monitor recently and it has breathed new life into my system. I only have a GTX 970 and I can smoothly play games 50-60fps now near Max settings. I couldn't play like that before, the stutter was awful anytime frame rate dropped below 60. It's also very cool playing games 60-100+ FPS and the monitor displays every frame.
Doesn't matter even if it has 69 Teraflops , it will flop if it doesn't have good exclusives , i hope MS will surprise us in E3 with a bunch of cool new Ips

The Scorpio is really ticking all the boxes at them moment. Decent power with a team of people who can really take advantage of it. Only recently been browsing FreeSync monitors myself as it sounds like an excellent feature
I own only PS4 and I likely won't have money to buy Scorpio this year, but I am superhappy to see such great improvements. Huge props to MS for making it all happen nad bringing a midgen upgrade like we have never seen before.

they r first gonna have to figure out how to get the console to even run the PC only title note: NO ONE OWNS the PC platform really so there's no such thing actually as PC exclusive, whoever release their title on PC only do so because of their own choice, not because there's any exclusivity or deal on PC. and usually there's a good reason why something is PC only ie: either because the interface is generally NOT going to work on console (this was the case with most RTS for example, and Halo War as well as a few RTS were attempts to get a somewhat working UI and control for RTS to work on console... but they are unfortunately still no where as good as a proper RTS control with keyboard and mouse) or because the title requires EXTREME level of control interface system as well as heavy load on processing power that console simply do not have, nor does the console players generally will have the patience for (which is the case with most simulator titles)
Iono Sama The Xbox Scorpio will get Mouse and Keyboard support. Would it be possible to just sell the pc versions on the console? It has an RX480, 12g Ram. A pc with these specs would have no problem with games like Civ or Total War.
that still doesn't help because in order for the game to sell on Xbox, it has to basically work with the controller because that is what comes standard with the Xbox (and likely so does Scorpio) and not keyboard and mouse basically unlike in a PC, one cannot really sell a game to the console and expect ppl to then supply the control mechanism for it... because no one accepts that on the console unless if the control mechanism is SOLD along with the game (a few games did this like Steel Battalion and it's massive control set, but even that game had provision allowing it to be played on the controller, or some lightgun games especially from the older console generation) now it's technically not exactly expensive to supply a cheap keyboard and mouse with a game.... except the size of the keyboard is going to make this prospect quite annoying for the publisher. But on top of that there's also the issue with the way most PC games are optimized where they tend to be designed to take advantage of faster clock speed on the CPU... the console... both Scorpio and PS4 Pro are not fast by any stretch of imagination... their processor in fact are running at half the speed that high end quad cores commonly used for high end rigs these days are running. the CPU on Scorpio and PS4 Pro DOES have the advantage in being 8 core (most of the gaming PC processors are quad cores until Ryzen 7 comes along) but EXTREMELY few PC games right now are actually optimized to handle 8 core processors well (BF1 being one of the rare exception) and most are still leveraging on higher clock speed instead which neither console have. Note as well that Scorpio have 12 GB of RAM but that's shared between system and GPU in comparison... decent gaming PC today have 16 GB of SYSTEM RAM alone and you might notice that a lot of PC games these days eat memory like no tomorrow. then if they use say an RX480 8 GB version... that's an extra 8 GB of video RAM PURELY for the GPU load. there's no way a 12 GB of shared memory is going to compete with that, though in exchange that 12 GB is GDDR5 memory, but that 12 GB have to both store the necessary system data (which gets massive in PC games these days) as well as the texture required by the GPU.
Just to say, this is HUGE. Console crowd, you have to experience this technology. I have a monitor with GSYNC, but Freesync is pretty much the same thing. It makes gaming a completely different experience. It's incredible. The fact that Scorpio will have this technology is great. It's a win for all gamers. Hopefully it becomes common place throughout all gaming devices and TVs! It makes such a crazy difference!
There is something called: Monitors. Just purchase a monitor, i prefer them over a TV. Though... you won't get that living room experience then. But i am a PC Gamer, why should i even be listened to then...

Freesync is apparently already supported by the PS4 Pro despite it not being announced. This is likely because both consoles run on a newer Polaris architecture.

I don't think supporting freesync will actually bear much or any benefit for at least a few more years. However you're not really paying anything extra for freesync, as it basically costs almost nothing to include. Unlike for example Nvidia's proprietary Gsync.

I've been holding off on replacing my a/v receiver and an older oled primarily because I've been waiting for 2.1 implementation, which hopefully will happen in 2018 for the oled's, and maybe even the end of 2017 for some a/v units. I hope the oled's of 2018 utilize variable refresh....I'm assuming LG in particular will have it because 2018 is their "new gen" update year for their oled's. I'm hoping I don't have to wait til 2019.

Not necessarily mate, HDMI 2.1 standard was only recently set. Shoot, no TV''s/monitors currently support it. With Scorpio releasing with HDMI 2.1, i'm only assuming TV's/Monitors with said standard should be releasing on/after.

Buying a FreeSync monitor was one of the best investments I ever made as a gamer. Gaming on my PC has never been smoother. I highly recommend it, even more so now that a console will support it.
This move in technology is way bigger than the Scorpio. This is the kind of thing that creates new industry standards. This could finally break the mainstream TV industry from the archaic 60 frame lock. This could not only mean great things for console, but also for PC gamers who want a big TV with the same capabilities of their smaller monitor. This will help everybody down the road.

And what is the problem of the Jaguar CPU ? I believe its more of an PC style CPU so it wont have same problems as the PS3 CPU which only a hand full devs. could get the full power out of it. On Paper the PS3 was stronger than Xbox 360 yet most multiplats did run and look better on the 360. Skyrim was probably the worst case scenario.

V-sync is NOT Freesync or GSync. VSync ties you to the monitors refresh rate, Free/G Sync CHANGES the monitor's refresh rate to match your framerate.

I've got to admit even as a Sony, Nintendo and PC Gamer, Scorpio is sounding more impressive by the day. It sounds like Microsoft really want to make up for rushing the XBOX One out of the door to compete with the PS4 by making something is ready to stand the tests of it's time and hopefully give it's customers something that'll last. Yes I love the PS4 Pro, Yes I love my PC, The Nintendo Switch I'm a little lukewarm towards but hopefully a few upcoming game titles may change that ;) all in all... this is great time to be a gamer...unless you're a prick.

I do see where your coming from man but I can't blame DF for that. For the longest time a huge amount of their work has come through Eurogamer but this time Microsoft actually called up Richard and said "Hey we've got something we want to reveal to you" and for DF getting the exclusive info on Scorpio before anyone else it's huge for their channel. On Microsoft's part I will admit I'd much rather see a Scorpio presentation but going through DF arguably the most trusted source in the industry right now was smart because you know if DF report something there's usually merit behind it.
In any case it's great for Rich and the group but I do hope Microsoft reveal Scorpio themselves soon. Probably gonna be at E3 with a christmas release I'm guessing.

I don't understand why people keep saying it has no games. It will not only run the latest 3rd party games at much better quality than any other console, it will also have a good amount of exclusives this year and the upcoming years (as always). You could say they are not exclusive because they are on PC, but people who want a console still see it as an exclusive which is all that matters. I'm an example of this. I can easily afford a powerful gaming PC but I won't purchase one because I choose to play on console. There are A LOT of people like me who think the same way which is why not having a game available on PS4 is a big enough reason for people to choose one console over another.
As many PS4 fans have been saying from the beginning, they choose their platform because it runs 3rd party games better than the original XB1 and XB1 Slim. Yes people look at exclusives as well, but the large majority of gamers care the most about having the best experience for 3rd party games which is why the Xbox 360 was a lot more popular than the PS3.
What I'm trying to say is, Microsoft will be the platform holder with the best versions of 3rd party games again, which is a major step in the positive direction. They still have a great set of exclusive games coming this year and like Phil Spencer said before, they are working on expanding and improving their 1st party portfolio, but this simply takes time. You don't want rushed new games, we want quality new exclusives which will come. Sony announces their exclusives very early on, which means you sometimes have to wait 2 -3 years before you could actually play them. Microsoft did this as well but doesn't do it anymore because of how Scalebound turned out (a cancelled game).
I also don't understand why people call this paid advertisement. Microsoft invited them to showcase the power of Scorpio, because they know Digital Foundry has been very critical towards the Xbox One performance which is why having Digital Foundry impressed by the power of Scorpio is a very strong strategy. They were so confident in their product, they chose the most tech based gaming channel to tear down the console and showcase the power. The fact that Digital Foundry is so fond on the power of the machine simply means they are impressed by it, especially considering it is a console that will be probably have competitive price for it's power.

if you compare the performance of the forza engine demo to pc, it looks like the scorpio will outperform 1060 builds by quite some margin. Running 4k @60 on mostly xone settings (antisotropic filtering was allegedly high, 16x) is not easy, Let alone only 60-70% gpu usage! With that usage, this is more comparable to a 1070 builds performance. Add in the move from dx11 on xone's cpu to dx12 on scorpio's gpu WITH freesync 2.0 and HDMI 2.1 support and that just devastates hopes of this console being an underperformer.
dx12 is not really giving significant performance improvements so i wouldnt care too much about that. we are seeing better gains from Vulkan.
IGN 10/10 Well it isn't as of now, but once developers utilize it more, it will get better. The reason Vulcan has worked better up to now is because it is simpler to work with. That's great, but when dx12 becomes the standard and developers learn the ins and out, I can only assume that it will be as good, if not better than Vulcan.

As a Playstation guy, I appreciate Scorpio bringing these things to the table, which should pressure and accelerate TV makers to evolve their hardware so it won't hold back gaming, whether it is HDR quality, input lag or frame sync

This one of the most impressive features of the Scorpio. Variable refresh rate opens the door to all kinds of things. Console gamers may even be able to experience the joy of higher than 60fps gameplay with FreeSync.
I don't think you understand what FreeSync does. You can still have a panel that doesn't display higher than 60fps that has FreeSync though most are 75hz at least. In addition I think I don't think developers would target higher than 60 fps as most don't even target 60 right now. If variable refresh rate comes to the mainstream I would just expect more games to have an unlocked frame rate with frame rates varying wildly from 20-70 fps because inconsistency is less noticeable with a variable refresh rate.
As a Freesync user, I was hoping a console would adopt this. I'd love a TV that is completely Freesync capable, and this might just get us there.

And even if Scorpio manages to come out at $450-$499, the PS4 Pro will be cheaper and people won't know the difference between them like you and me.

Very awesome! I got a G-sync monitor recently and it has breathed new life into my system. I only have a GTX 970 and I can smoothly play games 50-60fps now near Max settings. I couldn't play like that before, the stutter was awful anytime frame rate dropped below 60. It's also very cool playing games 60-100+ FPS and the monitor displays every frame.
Doesn't matter even if it has 69 Teraflops , it will flop if it doesn't have good exclusives , i hope MS will surprise us in E3 with a bunch of cool new Ips

note: NO ONE OWNS the PC platform really so there's no such thing actually as PC exclusive, whoever release their title on PC only do so because of their own choice, not because there's any exclusivity or deal on PC.

ie: either because the interface is generally NOT going to work on console (this was the case with most RTS for example, and Halo War as well as a few RTS were attempts to get a somewhat working UI and control for RTS to work on console... but they are unfortunately still no where as good as a proper RTS control with keyboard and mouse)
or because the title requires EXTREME level of control interface system as well as heavy load on processing power that console simply do not have, nor does the console players generally will have the patience for (which is the case with most simulator titles)

Would it be possible to just sell the pc versions on the console? It has an RX480, 12g Ram. A pc with these specs would have no problem with games like Civ or Total War.
that still doesn't help because in order for the game to sell on Xbox, it has to basically work with the controller because that is what comes standard with the Xbox (and likely so does Scorpio) and not keyboard and mouse
basically unlike in a PC, one cannot really sell a game to the console and expect ppl to then supply the control mechanism for it... because no one accepts that on the console unless if the control mechanism is SOLD along with the game (a few games did this like Steel Battalion and it's massive control set, but even that game had provision allowing it to be played on the controller, or some lightgun games especially from the older console generation)
now it's technically not exactly expensive to supply a cheap keyboard and mouse with a game....
except the size of the keyboard is going to make this prospect quite annoying for the publisher.
But on top of that there's also the issue with the way most PC games are optimized where they tend to be designed to take advantage of faster clock speed on the CPU...
the console... both Scorpio and PS4 Pro are not fast by any stretch of imagination... their processor in fact are running at half the speed that high end quad cores commonly used for high end rigs these days are running.
the CPU on Scorpio and PS4 Pro DOES have the advantage in being 8 core (most of the gaming PC processors are quad cores until Ryzen 7 comes along) but EXTREMELY few PC games right now are actually optimized to handle 8 core processors well (BF1 being one of the rare exception) and most are still leveraging on higher clock speed instead which neither console have.
Note as well that Scorpio have 12 GB of RAM but that's shared between system and GPU
in comparison... decent gaming PC today have 16 GB of SYSTEM RAM alone and you might notice that a lot of PC games these days eat memory like no tomorrow.
then if they use say an RX480 8 GB version... that's an extra 8 GB of video RAM PURELY for the GPU load.
there's no way a 12 GB of shared memory is going to compete with that, though in exchange that 12 GB is GDDR5 memory, but that 12 GB have to both store the necessary system data (which gets massive in PC games these days) as well as the texture required by the GPU.

Just to say, this is HUGE. Console crowd, you have to experience this technology. I have a monitor with GSYNC, but Freesync is pretty much the same thing. It makes gaming a completely different experience. It's incredible. The fact that Scorpio will have this technology is great. It's a win for all gamers. Hopefully it becomes common place throughout all gaming devices and TVs! It makes such a crazy difference!

freesync is part of the hdmi 2.1 standard.
if your tv has hdmi 2.1, it has freesync.
Some current 4K TVs are capable of Freesync. They are typically Korean branded, and found on Amazon.
This is great news for the consoles. I have been running g-sync for about a year now on PC and Its amazing. :-)

Freesync is apparently already supported by the PS4 Pro despite it not being announced. This is likely because both consoles run on a newer Polaris architecture.

well if you want your console to least longer than a year you need to think forward on tech that will become mainstream not what is mainstream already.
I don't think supporting freesync will actually bear much or any benefit for at least a few more years. However you're not really paying anything extra for freesync, as it basically costs almost nothing to include. Unlike for example Nvidia's proprietary Gsync.
Exceptional video....thank you. I've been holding off on replacing my a/v receiver and an older oled primarily because I've been waiting for 2.1 implementation, which hopefully will happen in 2018 for the oled's, and maybe even the end of 2017 for some a/v units.
I hope the oled's of 2018 utilize variable refresh....I'm assuming LG in particular will have it because 2018 is their "new gen" update year for their oled's. I'm hoping I don't have to wait til 2019.

Why would it support Steam? What does Microsoft gain out of that? Selling hardware isn't profitable, selling software and services is. And why would you think that Steam games would automatically work on an XB?

Not necessarily mate, HDMI 2.1 standard was only recently set. Shoot, no TV''s/monitors currently support it. With Scorpio releasing with HDMI 2.1, i'm only assuming TV's/Monitors with said standard should be releasing on/after.
ZioComposite i agree,hisense is already talking 8k and qled,so for tvs to have hdmi 2.1 thi year or the next is very possible,ms probably already new this and put it there to future proof as scorpio will probably come out in september or a little after

Buying a FreeSync monitor was one of the best investments I ever made as a gamer. Gaming on my PC has never been smoother. I highly recommend it, even more so now that a console will support it.

This move in technology is way bigger than the Scorpio. This is the kind of thing that creates new industry standards. This could finally break the mainstream TV industry from the archaic 60 frame lock. This could not only mean great things for console, but also for PC gamers who want a big TV with the same capabilities of their smaller monitor. This will help everybody down the road.

4K checkerboard is not true 4K, there are only 10 games that run at native 4K 60fps, three of them are sports games and the rest are indie titles.
