Actually, this is a great idea. People are skeptical about 4K 60 fps at a reasonable price point because they're comparing it to PC. However, Scorpio doesn't necessarily need a GPU like the 1080 or 980TI. That's because compared to PC games, console games are heavily optimized for a single set of locked specs. Therefore, the price of the Scorpio doesn't have to be unreasonable. And even if it did have a GPU close to the 1080, Microsoft does receive bulk discounts so it's not they're paying what us consumers would pay. On top of that, Microsoft always subsidizes their consoles and sell them at a loss.
Scorpio is 6 tflops so rx 480 having 5.8 tflops and gtx 970 performance id say when the gpu is made by AMD the performance would be just about slightly worse than the gtx980. The processor being made by amd i dont expect scorpio going near 4k in games but it will support it. The price is still in question but as seeing 1070 beats it already i think it wll be 600-700 for the console as new gpus release in 2017 from nvidia and amd they will be over 10 tflops. Maybe the optimisation could get the games running on low medium settings on 4k but i doubt it..
also, Hardware is not everything, software is a big part in this aswell. and microsoft beeing the biggest software developer i can see them create something that will suprise everyone.

I loved my One X. Now that I got lucky and upgraded to Series X, my wife now gets the One X. Both of these are great consoles and the One X has never stopped performing and works amazing.
No. If they announced it at E3 2017 the backlash would have been huge. People would have been outraged that they bought a new Xbox One S, only to find out a more powerful console was on it's way. By announcing it at the same time it gives people the choice of deciding which one they want.
problem is this console will play most games at 4k if they are made to be on 4k mist games might be 1080p like shooting ganes for example but racing games might use 4k native resolution because they have 6 tereflops to mess around with the cab use it for 4k or use it for 1080p gaming which is a good idea even pc gaming struggles with 4k that I might aswel just upscale and play certain games at 4k
If anything with the fact that Microsoft finally realized that they just need to abandon the exclusivity of X1 and the games will work on Windows 10. PC won 100%

If there were two Xbox Scorpios, one that is described in the trailer and one that has inferior hardware, I guarantee you the majority of people will buy the cheaper option. The main appeal of consoles for console players is that consoles are cheap (That varies however). The Xbox Scorpio will break that selling point by making the machine expensive and therefore forcing console players to run 4k. I still don't understand your point because your argument contains flawed logic. PC gamers who do not run 4k decide not to run 4k either because a) It's not worth it or b) Because it's too expensive, for the new Xbox option b will affect everyone.

Huge swaths of people have monitors greater than 1080. And you're completely ignoring the requirements for VR. Which scores of people DO want and need hardware that's far better than just 1080p/60fps capable.

please correct me if at anytime i am wrong, but an AAA title at 2160p, 60fps will not be possible without very low texture quality, little to no tessellation and no ambient occlusion, regardless of the amount of optimization that console takes into account. Hell Xbox One can't even play games at 1080p, nevermind 4k, at 30fps. What makes you think 5x the processing power can take 4x the resolution and DOUBLE the frame rate.. it's simply math... and that's assuming the same render quality of xbox one (poor textures, no ambient occlusion, no tessellation) Sorry boys.
Well they didn't actually say 4k @ 60. They had one person talking about 4k, then they had a completely different person talking about 60hz. Clever marketing on Microsoft to not advertising something that wont be delivered, and instead relying on people to connect the two to drive hype up and spread the misconception that this overpriced paperweight will be a holy grail.

But good luck building a PC to this spec AND staying under a $399 price point. You'd get a mobo, MAYBE a processor, and about half your ram before exceeding that budget...
there are actually a variety of cheap good performing components out there, its better than what it used to be 10 years ago, look up budget gaming pc's you'll see some pretty interesting builds that can natively output 4k res at decent fps
I'm a die hard Xbox fan boy. I've been playing Xbox consoles since I was 3. I remember playing the first Halo on the OG Xbox. I got the 360 for my ninth birthday, and I got the Xbox One for my 17th birthday. Microsoft have, and continue to do amazing things with Xbox. The controllers for the XB1 are the most comfortable controllers in existence. For Xbox its always been quality over everything else. Right Xbox?? :D

I doubt the new Xbox will be able to run 4k 60fps if the console is going to be priced the same as the Xbox one. It will be expensive so the hardware can run it so it would obviously be rocking an expensive GPU.
I am sorry but I do not understand what your main point is.
If there were two Xbox Scorpios, one that is described in the trailer and one that has inferior hardware, I guarantee you the majority of people will buy the cheaper option.
The main appeal of consoles for console players is that consoles are cheap (That varies however). The Xbox Scorpio will break that selling point by making the machine expensive and therefore forcing console players to run 4k.
I still don't understand your point because your argument contains flawed logic. PC gamers who do not run 4k decide not to run 4k either because a) It's not worth it or b) Because it's too expensive, for the new Xbox option b will affect everyone.

Huge swaths of people have monitors greater than 1080. And you're completely ignoring the requirements for VR. Which scores of people DO want and need hardware that's far better than just 1080p/60fps capable.

if you need something you can travel with , get a xbox 360 , you wont have a 4k tv most of the time if you travel alot ( and carrying a 4K TV with you is harder than a PC )

please correct me if at anytime i am wrong, but an AAA title at 2160p, 60fps will not be possible without very low texture quality, little to no tessellation and no ambient occlusion, regardless of the amount of optimization that console takes into account. Hell Xbox One can't even play games at 1080p, nevermind 4k, at 30fps. What makes you think 5x the processing power can take 4x the resolution and DOUBLE the frame rate.. it's simply math... and that's assuming the same render quality of xbox one (poor textures, no ambient occlusion, no tessellation) Sorry boys.

Well they didn't actually say 4k @ 60. They had one person talking about 4k, then they had a completely different person talking about 60hz. Clever marketing on Microsoft to not advertising something that wont be delivered, and instead relying on people to connect the two to drive hype up and spread the misconception that this overpriced paperweight will be a holy grail.

But good luck building a PC to this spec AND staying under a $399 price point.
You'd get a mobo, MAYBE a processor, and about half your ram before exceeding that budget...
there are actually a variety of cheap good performing components out there, its better than what it used to be 10 years ago, look up budget gaming pc's you'll see some pretty interesting builds that can natively output 4k res at decent fps

I'm a die hard Xbox fan boy. I've been playing Xbox consoles since I was 3. I remember playing the first Halo on the OG Xbox. I got the 360 for my ninth birthday, and I got the Xbox One for my 17th birthday. Microsoft have, and continue to do amazing things with Xbox. The controllers for the XB1 are the most comfortable controllers in existence. For Xbox its always been quality over everything else. Right Xbox?? :D
