51 assorted equines is marvellous, such a lot of dedication, love and hard work! I don't think that there is a rescue here in Australia that will perform a LAOK which is both sad and wrong - I have seen rescues here spend literally thousands of dollars trying to get horses well again when it is obvious they aren't going to make it - and then send out emergency requests to help pay their hay/feed bills. I do hope the Carrie gets through her surgery OK, and that she and Cindy are in remission, get their health back and continue the great work that they do.

From Denmark 🇩🇰 I’ve been following this for some time now. Unbelievable at a land as USA needs women and men some these beautiful woman. Where is the government? No animal should be neglected as these horses we see. Every owner that neglects there pet, live stock ,horses, circus animals should be accountable. With fines or jail time. For letting a animal suffer. There should be veterans at every auction and put down the animals that need to be put down , the sellers having to pay for and of course fined. There have to be more awareness of what is happening. But for now thank you all for the hard rewarding work you are doing. The reward must come the day these beautiful horses find there loving home❤️ I wish I could give all of you a kiss and a bear hug ❤️❤️❤️

I so admire that. ❤️ if there is pettiness with other rescues they are waisting time! There are so many horses that need help. We humans are not the important focus here. I wish there had been a place like yours that I could have taken my horses to back in the 70’s, precisely 1977. I had to sell them to some people that said they would care for my babies where we could not. They are most likely gone now, it’s been a very long time, but I hope they did have a good life after they left me. 😢😢

I "inheritated" an OTTB gelding that would have been a prime candidate for slaughter. He had chronic lameness (he was 6 when I got him) that had caused his previous owner (who was much better off financially then I was) to decide to sell him. He was being used as a professionally showing equitation horse in wellington, fl for her 16 yr old daughter and was is excellent condition when he landed at the rescue I adopted him from. He was donated (a supposedly well trained no lameness issues, just couldn't leave the farm was what we were told) at that time this horse was easily a $30k+ horse and thwy just donated him... after I adopted him he went lame with just 15 min of flat work in 2 was. Spent well into the thousands of dollars over 3 months trying to figure it out. Eventually found chronic navicular bone degradation. I called the rescue and they refused to take him back. Vet recommended euthanasia I decided to try therapeutic shoes, that worked for a few yrs. I then had to do coffin joint injections and therapeutic shoes.. after a few yrs that didn't work either.. I tried barefoot, boots, Bute, and Banamine but nothing seemed to help. At 14 yrs old I euthanized my best friend. I didn't want to put him to sleep but I knew he could be strung along for yrs as a Pasture ornament and limp around for another 10 yrs... i couldn't stomach forcing him to do that. When I pit him down he wouldn't move a step when you turned him out. He'd be faced away from the gate exactly where you left him 8 hrs ago and I could see in his eyes. He was done with the pain. I don't understand how people can turn a blind eye to that kind of pain. Yeah I could have made $1000 off him instead of paying $1000 to euthanize him and have him hauled away afterwards. Sure the end result when have been his death either way but how can some people just go "well atleast I made some of my money back... " and not think about what will happen tocthat horse in it's final moments... the pain, the desperation, the panic... that's ultimately why I have so much respect for your rescue. 4 previous owners failed my horse... they all passed the buck to make a few bucks and shame on the rescue I tried to send him back too. They said if we take him back we won't be able to adopt him out and he's too expensive to keep (it took over $300 dollars just for premium free choice alfalfa and grass hay, not including the high quality grain, to keep him up to weight) they abandoned me with that horse. I struggled to pay my bills and afford his vet (coffin joint injections ran about $300/150 per foot per session) and farrier care (which cost me around $300 every 5 weeks) not including his board and feed as most boarding facilities didn't have what he needed so I had to supplement hay and grain most times. It cost me about $2000 a month to take care of that horse. I loved him so much but it was such a Rollercoaster of emotions and sorrow. Not being able to find any joy with your friend because you have to watch them limp and you CANT AFFORD to bring the vet out to inject him again... and have to find the courage to say when is it enough, when I do I cross a line where this ends. How do I make the right decision if the most difficult one is what treatment can i afford if I can't should I end his suffering... it makes you feel like feel like failure for not being able to afford a $3k mri soxyou can really see what's wrong and if there is an affordable surgery or treatment that MIGHT help. I feel like I was sabatoged by that rescue, they knew he had a major issue and when I finally said hey wait he's got serious issues they just wash their hands and say oh well he's your problem know... the industry as a whole needs to change this problem where people don't want to make those hard emotional decisions that may cost more then selling/auctioning but it's the RIGHT thing to do... no seems to want to do the right thing anymore.
To clarify: the owner that donated my horse to the rescue was not made aware of his lameness issues. They had trusted the wrong trainer... they always had issues at the show (which was why they decided to send him to a rescue rather then sell him as a lesson horse at a show barn, lesson horses are taken to shows and this rescue was recommended by their trainer, infact they were pushed heavily by the trainer to have him sent far far away from wellington (wellington has a heavy show horse presence and he may end up being taken in by a show family) this was how they were convinced to do as the trainer said)
If a horse that is chronicly lame and being medicated well they will not feel pain at home. However rated shows are randomly drug tested for pain killers, so in order to get the meds out of his system he would go about a week before the show without medication and would be shown while he was in pain but both feet would hurt so he wouldn't limp. The owner was never made aware the horse was being medicated so thwy had no idea why the horse was a docile well behaved horse at home and a buxking bronco at the show. Without being told all the facts they believed that the horse just didn't do well off property and that was why he was donated to an area that was more likely an area where he would be pet and not a show horse. So this owner did not know and I'm not angry with them this was their first horse and they trusted the wrong person. When I told them everything they put the peices together themselves and later discovered their were several horses from that property that where coming up lame after leaving that trainers care...
My issue is with the TB racing industry theybsell their rejects off or send them to slaughter rather then euthanized a horse with severe issues, they pass the buck on the 1st idiot that doesn't do a PPE. Then these sleepy trainers treating these horses like atms and forcing them thru for as long as they can milk them, and the rescues that will only take the easy horses that "just need a soft place to land" and don't need any major care. These places are not rescues their scam artists they take the horse for free and then turn around in maybe a month or 2 and sell them for $1200 -$3000. If that's their game they can do a sale service where people come to them with a need and a budget and they het calls from random people looking to sell cheap or rehome for free. The sales rep makes a fee depending on time spent looking and there you go everyone is happy.

Wow, 51 horses rescued from slaughter! Well done, all! Very sad at the neglect and lack of vet care some have gone through which necessitated their being euthanized. All animals should be properly cared for and in forever homes, they are living creatures who have emotional intelligence that we are just beginning to understand and who depend on us to do right by them. Horses are amazing and have been such a gift to mankind, we need to respect and love them.

Well, just to add to your comment, they have regular Horse Plus vlogs posted on this channel that are basically closer to real time...or just somewhat behind. Then there are Horse Rescue Heroes full episodes like this one, where they have filmed over time following an organization they are mentoring and they film and complete the whole season of that before airing it.
Season one was also on Amazon Prime video and this season two is also. As the new Horse Rescue Heroes episodes are released over time they are available on Amazon Prime too.
So that explains the different types of posts on this channel...and why the episodes show past employees and may have some slight overlap with the older vlogs.
Basically just watch all you can whenever they are posted and then look forward to the mentoring episodes that are released here weekly on Thursdays to see how that progresses. Make sure you are caught up with season one either on this channel or on Amazon Prime to see how Pony Tails grew with their season of being mentored by Horse Plus.

What a tough episode. First off, like Carrie said - so many injuries and poor body condition horses, neglected hoof care, and that eye injury. That made me furious.
To Cindy: Cindy, I have watched your part of the series from start to finish, several times. It was great to see you there "today". I know this was months ago that this was filmed, but I wanted to tell you that you are in my thoughts and I am sending all of my healthy vibes and positive ju-ju your way, girl! Look after yourself first and foremost, because you are loved, supported and needed.
To Carrie: You, missy, are one tough cookie. I am proud of you and the woman you are. To be such a good wife, momma and run a rescue while you are dealing with all of this is mind-blowing. I pray that your surgery went well and that you are feeling better these days. I am sending you all the strength I have to help you continue to fight for your own health whilst dealing with your rescue and rehab facility. I wish you nothing but the very best.
I have been a single mom for 20 of my daughter's 21 years. I went thru an abusive marriage, left, started over, lost everything in a fire, rebuilt again and then had a spine/spinal cord injury that has left me with mobility issues, chronic pain, a leg with permanent nerve damage and pain and am only able to be upright for about 2 hours at a time. So your comment about chronic illness/pain struck a chord with me. I pray that while this is my future, for sure, forever, that yours looks bright and healthy for both you and Cindy.
You are all in my thoughts and as I said, I'm sending all of my positivity and strength to you while you kick the Big "C"s butt and tell it to keep it's ugly self away from you forever. Stay strong, which includes crying when you need to. It's ok.
Lots of love and mad respect,
    Heather🇨🇦

Not sure I agree though. Speaking the unspoken can show it CAN be faced and brought into the whole picture. It stops it becoming a dark unspoken Thing that haunts. It was done with loving compassion. And Tawnee is speaking out of her own daily experience too- living the horses Carrie’s no guarantee of outcome.

@@didntlistendad I agree that it was not said as a bad thing and that the intention of it was well-intended. I said as much in my comment.
I've gone back to delete that part of the message because I feared it was not going to read the way I meant it.
I don't quite understand the last part "living the horses Carrie's not guarantee of outcome"...
I know that Tawnee had a head injury, if that is what you are referring to as her 'own daily experience'. Again, not sure if I'm reading it correctly.

I have watched just about every single episode of HPHS and I must say that this episode was one of the BEST ones!! You show the true struggles and I really appreciate that part of it, also the compassion for others are shown a lot during this episode-both for humans and animals. It’s always good to get a first hand experience and by joining this intake she will be able to form her own opinions about the process and the decisions that needs to be taken during it.

What an amazing video. To show how 3 rescues can come together to save so many horses. It's about putting aside egos and banding together for the mission-which is to save as many horses as possible. To rehab those that can be, to give the last act of kindness to those whose suffering can only be stopped by that. Thanks for the willingness to share the knowledge and to those who who can benefit from the procedure that work. Carrie and Cindy are so amazing. I hope they can see from all the posts that there are many of us that believe in prayer or positive thinking and will be keeping them in our hearts and thoughts. That can be so powerful. Thanks to Horse Plus for your continued amazing work and for mentoring these 2 groups. The circle will widen as they bring their knowledge back to their rescues but also help others to continue the cycle.
