I plan on doing this on a revell rouge one 2700 scale star destroyer will this work the sane and 2 last questions what size do I use for the led light so it can fit and what drill and size do you use also price for it and final last question promise how do you keep the led lights to stick in postion example the trench do I glue it inside still or what and how do I turn iff the light's do I need to detache everything? Sorry for the bombardment of questions its my first time doing this.
Hi Ken, good work. Quick question about fitting fibre optics down the side of this model. With the side panels glued to bottom how do you get around wanting windows in the top half of those side panels and the fibres will be be in the way of the top half of the main fuselage when put together. Is the best option to just drill through top half of side panel and then make a cutaway section in top fuselage so the fibres are not in the way? Or is there another option? Just not the level of detail I've come across in videos for this model.
Alan Mills I am just about to embark on the same kit as a project. Only thing I can think of is to cut out panels along the top as you suggested. It works on the little baby reveal kit.
Have you tested or tried with any success using LED Tape mounted closely to the sidewalls with Fiber Optic nubs about an inch long installed into the sidewalls with canopy white glue to hold the Fiber in place and extending in the sidewall keeping the fiber straight and pointed directly at the LED Tape? Would appreciate knowing if that technique works. Thanks !
How are you going to get the led strips to the bridge though? Tape it to the ceiling and just let it hang there or something? Also, did you drill the holes with the ship already assembled? Like did you drill the holes in the trenches *while* they were attached to the ship already? Sorry for the questions bombardment. I'm doing s much research as possible before I commit to lighting it. I've never lit a model before, out of the frying pan....
I'm using Fiber for the bridge. With a single LED bulb, not strips. I'll be showing thing in my next video, almost there. And yes, I drilled the holes after the parts were assembled for the trenches, etc.
Ah, right. that makes sense. Do you think you could get a led strip in there though? I'd really rather not work with fibres just yet but if there is no other way. Why drill the holes already assembled though? Wouldn't it be easier to reach hard spots disassembled?
You could get an LED strip taped or glued to the rear of the bridge facing front, for sure. As for the assembly, I drilled them after assembling the trenches, but not the entire kit. Yeah, I agree with you, that would be a nightmare. You have to assemble the trenches first,m because you are actually drilling through 2 pieces.
Oh snap I must have missed that about the 2 pieces, yeah that makes sense. I'll see what I can do with the LED strip. Thanks for the quick and helpful feedback, Ken!
You bet. I'm in the middle of pre assembling- once that's done, I'll have the next video up. Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions!

What form of paint are you using? (I wanna go with a lighter gray/ darker white for my exterior)

set your speed lower to stop the melting of the plastic on your drill bit. That should eliminate the build up.
3mm are the holes?
What type of toy star destroyer was the one you had in the beginning of the video?
Not sure be it looks to be the Disney star destroyer the metal one sold at walmart. I have one and it looks very close.
