The entire nation was crying like babies when Ali came out to light the Olympic flame. I grew up in a time when boxing was on free TV so I got to watch Ali many times. He was a thing of beauty who also had the heart of a lion. After all this time his face is still one of the most recognized in the world.
I love the way Garin's face lit up when the Olympic hockey team appeared on screen. I was 19 years old when it happened and 44 years later my face still lights up.

I vaguely remember the Miracle on Ice when it happened. I do know that it happened at a very low time in American history. There were several crisis globally at that time, however the largest one by far to the US was the hostage situation in Iran. Later in life I met one of the hostages while I was active duty in the Marine Corps. On his flight home after captivity from Iran, the plane played a tape of significant events they missed in their 444 days of captivity. It just so happened that one of the things on the tape was the Miracle on Ice game.
I would like to add one honorable mention to this list from the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. During the team all around in gymnastics, the IS was in position to win their first gold medal ever in this event. It came down to the last team member, Kerri Strug, and 2 vaults. Her first attempt she failed to stick the landing, and also tore a tendon in her ankle. As she went back to the starting position, she was limping a little and was obviously hurt. She got set, took off in a sprint, hit the spring board, did her flips, came down, landed on one leg, put her hands over her head to finish the vault, and dropped to the floor. As medical and coaches picked her up and carried her off, her score came in. She had won the gold for her team. The crowd went crazy.

I freaked out when I saw that moment live with Kerri Shrug. Part of me hopes she'll be the one to light the cauldron at the LA Olympics in 2028. They always pick someone inspiring just like that picked the Miracle On Ice team to light the 2002 Winter Olympics cauldron.

I 'm 32 years old and have competed in 2 Olympics and unfortunately never medaled... but i do have 5 national championships and one 3rd place, at least i have medals for those. But just as fast as one single mistake happens, the thought of "youre lucky, better hope i dont get that chance again" has to come in. was hard especially for me i wasnt good at it at first. but don't dwell on the mistake, you will see every single athlete make multiple of them, at the top level all the time. they're not to be afraid of. keep it up! will be keeping my eye out for you in the NHL

I’m a New Yorker born and raised. I was at work when the planes hit the WTC. I was also at game three of the World Series, and watched the president throw out the first pitch. You asked would people have booed if he had bounced the ball? I’m not sure. The only reason they may have is that. The weeks between 9/11 and game 3 of the World Series were some of the saddest, most stressful times to live in New York. Everyone was full of emotion, and the Yankees were our stress relief. Once the president decided to come to the game. The security level went up ten fold. To get into the stadium it took hours. Having to go through multiple security checks. The last being bomb sniffing dogs. Which every person had to walk by. Everyone was so tired and stressed out, and just wanted to enjoy the game. With everyone just getting to their seats when he threw the pitch. They may have booed him if he bounced it.
The one crazy thing I remember with the president being there. They had snipers covering the roof of the stadium. Every nook and cranny had a rifle barrel sticking out of it. It was pretty unreal.
Also I know you all enjoy watching videos on jets. On 9/11 they deployed F-16’s into New York. To guard against another attack. I remember leaving working immediately when it happened and headed home. It was crazy because the police were waving us to head away from the city. All the cars around me were doing around a 100 mph and nobody cared. Sadly the opposite side of the highway was filled with fire trucks and ambulances from all the suburbs. Heading to the city to hopefully save people. But sadly they were all gone. It was the freakiest thing I’ve ever experienced, and scary because I had family I was worried about. I got home to find everyone safe and sound. So I took my dog outside to have a smoke when two F-16’s came flying right over my house. They were high up but there afterburners were so powerful that they shook the ground. It was unbelievable. It was also the moment when I started feeling safe again. The F-16’s flew over my house for hours. Shaking it every time. But I didn’t care. It felt good.
Lastly I know you love the A-10. Well my nephew is in the Air Force. He’s works on base where they rebuild any A-10 guns that need work. He says there so loud, and powerful that they rattle the windows of his house which is a half mile away. Which is pretty insane.
P.S I rally enjoy your channel. Also have your son become a NY Rangers fan. They’re Stanley Cup contenders this year.

Amazing story, thanks for sharing. I was 19 when 9/11 happened. I often think 9/11 was our gen's Pearl Harbor because my grandparents said they remember exactly what they were doing when they heard about Pearl Harbor. One thing I remember in the days following was that uncertainty about so many things, the biggest being "will things get back to normal". I remember when SNL was going to air for the first time and the first image that showed was Guiliani with First Responders (I think it was Firefighters). I can't remember who said what, but a question asked, "So it's okay to be funny?" I think the mayor was asked that. So it was okay to laugh again.

I was 11 years old when our team U.S.A. beat the Soviet Union in the Olympics , I still get exited about it. Remember, they had professional players against our amateur team!! I know these kids where not alive then. I was just taken back by them not getting the importance of it. It was not my place to say much. Great reaction to a great video! Love seeing these father-son reactions!
And it's hard at times to do, Garon, but you've got to keep your cool when competing. The more you let the anger and frustration have control, the sloppier you'll tend to play and the more angry and frustrated you might get. After my second ejection from a high school football game when I let my anger take control my coach took me aside and said, "I get being mad. But if you let the mad win you let yourself down. If you're mad about something you've done, tell yourself, 'Okay, that sucked, but I'm going to remember what I did and focus better so I won't do it again.' If someone else did something that made you angry then tell yourself, 'Okay, that sucked, but I'm not going to let that guy live rent free in my brain by thinking about it. I'm going to focus on what I need to do and forget what he did.' That was almost forty years ago and I can tell you that advice has helped me a lot different ways in life.

No. 6 is factually incorrect. Max Schmelling was no Nazi. He, in fact, loathed Hitler and the Nazis. Max and Joe Louis actually liked each other. After both of their boxing careers were over, they kept in touch. Joe Louis was struggling financially in his later years, and Max gave him money to help him and his family. The whole rivalry between them was a propaganda battle invented by Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels and a patriotic and sensationalistic American press. These two fighters mutually respected each other and had no ill will toward each other at any time in their lives.
