This battle is a lot of fun. You're going to want to have Redemption and Deathgrip on your quick selection keys. Stay in close to the body when he swings the hammer, it makes dodging much easier. Immediately shoot the spores on his arm and switch to Deathgrip to attack the gem. Rinse and repeat! Some climbing involved with the second arm, jump off and use Deathgrip.

This boss is living proof of how important atmosphere is. All in all, the Guardian isn’t horribly difficult, a pretty simple puzzle boss once you figure it out, but the scale of the battle, orchestral score, animation and art direction elevate it so much. This isn’t just a midgame boss, this is an ancient mechanical titan that blocks your path.

I'm playing Darksiders 2 for the first time. Maybe I'm too old or this was better back in the day, but I am not feeling that atmosphere you are feeling.
This fight itself is so janky.
There's so much that game developers can learn from this game. Like the soundtrack alone can make or break a single moment in the game. I love this game because I personally believe it has one of the greatest soundtracks ever.
On the topic of what game developers could learn from this game, one of the more important lessons is that texture quality does not equal graphics. This game, if you look at it like most games on terms of texture quality and resolution, looks like shit, yet this is the single most beautiful game I have ever played. Why? The art and color. The artistic style and vibrant colors of this game are so phenomenally well done that it will always look better than any modern Triple A game, no matter how much they increase the texture quality.
Story is also amazing.

For me, this was one of the most majestic battles, ever! Huge field of grass, Gigantic golem, a horseman riding around avoiding the golem's crushes. The whole scenery! Don't forget about the music either. It fits SO much. the battle between the Reaper and the Corrupted.

I was mostly fighting with the shitty horse controls along with the crap hitboxes. This boss fight was utter trash.
I spent the whole time learning about how I am for the first time in the game forced to assign the grab hand to a button other than R2 which it literally was through the rest of the game. Now all of a sudden I have to assign buttons to powers that were automatically R2.
hated fighting this thing. was so confused with that 2nd phase. had to look this video up.

I loved this fight, the scale was amazing. Could have been alot better though. For one, I would have loved to see a 3rd stage instead of just a cutscene of Death shattering the final heart thing.

I found this game thrown on a road for the xbox 360. The cd was really really scratchy but luckily worked for me. I played it and loved it so much. One day i was playing and i was on the big stony statue with a ball beneath (forgot the name). I was moving it and the game glitched and suddenly the statue landed on a wall. I managed to get off but couldnt get the statue again. My whole game got rekt just because of that glitch. Then i got why it was thrown on a road. I deleted the profile and started the game again and finally completed it. Its one of the greatest game and reminds me a lot of shadow of collosus

Eh, deathinive is a lot easier than I expected at least to this point which is where got to at the moment of writing this. Granted, I'm replaying it for the second time but it's not NG+, it's a new game from level 1.

Well the ball part is a complete pain in the ass. I like this game but it´s meh compared to Metal Gear Revengeance and NieR Automata

This boss was epic.
It took me a handful of tries to get it down as I first had to get the angle for the hammer swoop evade right (not sure if I've perfected it, but I tried to run away from the hammer and towards the boss, instead of around his right side. My way works... but not as reliably as yours). The second part left me a bit confused at first, but once I realised (after about the 6th ball, and the 4th attempt) the balls followed you I knew what to do. Needed another couple of attempts to actually pull it off though.
The game just glitched out on me. I shot the spores but nothing happened, he kept hammering the ground and no spores showed up again. Had to die to restart the fight.
same, I've done plenty of these "HIT THE WEAK POINTS CLIMB THE DUDE" fights, they are in like every character action game, yet I had to look up the guide. Sigh

One of the coolest boss fights of all time
I didnt even realize how good th music was, but now i realize why i was so UTTERLY into this fight from start to finish. Took me a while too to realize how to get the orbs right. I was trying to shoot it while he was going to fire it and then went about ignoring and avoiding it. After being tossed around by two and then watching the third roll around long enough, i decided to shoot it and learn it floats and fling itself at you. THEN it occured to me "hey why not put the boss between me and it?"
After listening to find your flame from sonic frontiers I had to look up this fight again so I could play the song alongside it. Needless to say it sounded pretty awesome!
This game deserves more praise..........one of the best games ever made

This helped alot too, it made me see the reason why his arm didn't explode was because my game glitched and didn't like me blowing his arm off.

This part I made an other save game for this... Cause this is the most EPIC thing I have had in a game, the boss is GIGANTIC and epic, the colors are perfect matching, the music stuns me ..I just don`t want to clear this game because I want to keep playing!

Don't understand why so many people rage on this boss. I managed it in under 4 minutes. Here's what I did ... Skip the cutscene, ride My Little Pony to the left hand side of the tree thingy, jump off My Little Pony once you get there, tuck yourself in where the tree thingy's root is, wait for the lumbering doofus to slam his hammer while you have your gun in lock mode, you can fire right through his hammer if you're aimed right, go through the 2 silly attack sequences, jump on My Little Pony prior to Mr. I need To Find A Day Job launches his Evil Ball, then once he does turn and continually fire at it until it becomes suspended in the air. Once it does, ride My Little Pony using speed bursts until you get 180 degrees opposite of where you suspended the Evil Ball, then turn around and watch the excitement as the doofus kneels down. The rest a 2 year old could do. Just rinse & repeat.
I raged about this boss because I blew the spores off while his arm was in the air and my game glitched where his arm didn't fall to pieces and the spores didn't grow back, so I had nothing to do but ride around...
Until I saw this, I didn't realise my game had glitched, I figured I was missing something
Berethruu I hate when stuff like that happens. I purchased Silent Hill: Homecoming for the PS3 a couple of years ago and on 2 separate occasions the game glitched in different sections of the game where I was only about 25% of the way into the game and left me not being able to solve certain puzzles. After having to start the game all over again to solve the first puzzle, the game glitched again and I wasn't able to solve another puzzle. I haven't touched the game again since. It wasn't until after the first foul up that I read reviews of the PS3 version and found out that the PS4 version doesn't have the same issues. Alone In The Dark ( 2008 ) had the same type of issues. The PS3 version played flawless, but the PS2 version was glitchy from the very start of the game.
Yes, though reappearing bombs would've helped in this case. If you don't know that you have to blow them up when it hits the ground, you're stuck and just running around in circles.

With the last stage with the second arm I did it the hard way, but faster. I jumped while locking onto it with deathgrip, I did it eventually. I didn't have a clue about climbing his forearm!

So, i was playing this on my switch yesterday and was confused because when i shot the bombs on its arms, they exploded and nothing happened. Mind you ive never played this game until i bought some days ago so is my copy bugged? Is this a common issue on the switch?
Hey, wanted to say I just got to this part now on PC and that also happened to me. It was weird because I'd randomly see health bars as if there's a split-second where I could've hurt this thing but I couldn't reliably replicate it. Had to watch this video to realize the arm should've exploded off. Restarting the game and going into this fight again fixed it. Game was going well until I got to this buggy point.

im having a problem with my game, im on the 360 version of the game and im in a glitch where after the cutscene of the guardian hits the corruption he freezes and i cant progress and im stuck. anyone got a fix for it?
1. Mapping Redemption is unnecessary. Equip Deathgrip, and you're good. When you ride Despair, it auto changes to Redemption, and back when you dismount. Stay on your horse for the shooting, ride to the gem, dismount and grip. It's a lot more efficient.
2. You realize that you can lock onto the ball he fires after you, right...? It makes things a lot simpler.

For some reason I never had trouble dodging using despair. Ergo I was fine with the default selection (ZR for Redemption on Despair and ZR for Deathgrip on foot.)
