actually, the necromacer is incredibly strong if you know how to use it. admittedly is way more comlicated to make it shine than the other two mage specs. besides there is a couple things the ability descriptions dont mention about what the abilities actually do, this is probably why 99% of the people think it's a shit spec. walking bomb does way more damage than what the tool tip suggest. that's for starters. also aoe knockdown. also the secondary explotions weaken the enemy, just like the rift mage. the ability description doesnt say any of that lol. spirit mark, at first glance, shit. but with the wisps of the fallen upgrade, once you have 3 wisps, it's free spirit damage of 300% weapon damage on top of anything you do. and i mean anything. auto attack, damage spells, obviously. but the wisps also shoot with fade step even if not upgraded for damage. and the funniest thing ever, they also shoot when you cast a barrier. basically dorian casts barrier and the nearest enemy gets 300% spirit damage becouse why not. as long as he has 3 wisps of course. surprisingly the AI is super competent with this spell. i dont even have to switch to him, he marks the enemies super quick, and the cool thing about this is that he doesn't have to be the one killing the enemy to get the wisp. also if the inquisitor is a necro and marks the same enemy as dorian, they both get a wisp. and the most bizarre and hidden thing is simulacrum. everyone knows that you can revive yourself pretty easily. but what many people dont know is it gives you a massive damage reduction. basically as long as simulacrum is not on cooldown (if the ghost form has not been activated in the past 10 seconds i think it is), the maximun damage and enemy can do to you is your current health. so if you have 10 health points, no matter the enemy, no matter what they do, they are not going to do more than 10 damage. this means that as long as you have a barrier, you are immune to death, not even need to auto revive. since barrier has thousands of "health" points, but your real current health being 10, this results in the enemy being basically incapable of destroying your barrier or guard. this is showcased on this video: ua-cam.com/video/xlijO2fCTTI/v-deo.html all the enemies do 44 damage to the inquisitor's barrier or armor, no matter what attack they do. because that's what the current health is. there's even a moment there when an ogre grabs the inquisitor and starts punching him, and the barrier doesnt even flinch. every other classe's barrier would have been obliterated. like the description of the video says, this puts their survivability on par with the knight enchanter and champion specs. quite OP if you think about it lol. thank you for coming to my ted talk about the nuances and wonders of the necromancer spec haha.
I knew about the walking bomb dealing alot more damage then the tooltip part but not the damage reduction shenanigans, although that sounds like a mega glitch/cheese which I wasn’t factoring in similar to combat roll, if I did that for this game every class would just have 10 power which wouldn’t be terribly interesting lol
@@Red_Gael yeah i personally dont use the simulacrum thing, it makes the game too easy. i was just trying to point out that both the necromancer and knight enchanter are equally invincible under a barrier, the necro because the barrier itself is super strong (if you want it to be) and the KE because they generate barrier just by breathing lol. anyway, great vid, keep up the good work!!
Great Video! I'd argue that the biggest draw of necromancer isn't just walking bomb, but rather the fact that it's theoretically unkillable if you pair Simulacrum with a heal on hit masterwork. You go down, spam spells to regen some health, then by the time your ghost dies, you're no longer at 0hp so you get a free revive. Pretty fun imo, although horror and spirit mark do admittedly suck.
Agreed combat rolls made warriors unplayable for me. So ridiculous! Anyway question. Wouldnt elemental mines outdamage assassins? Also archer artificer could solo most bosses with leaping shot. Furthermore its just as fun. But your stealth focused assassin build looks interesting, indeed!
If you hit an enemy with spirit blade and then use energy barrage right after you will not use up its cooldown and can use energy barrage again, but you have to hit them (one time)before using Energy barrage and sometimes you’ll miss and use up the cooldown or get the timing wrong but it’s very powerful and you can sometimes get off 5 energy barrages or more….YOU MUST HIT AN ENEMY ONCE BEFORE EACH ENERGY BARRAGE USE!!!.
Honestly,. the most fun I've ever had in Dragon Age as a series was with Champion Warrior, just standing in front of a dragon and telling it 'No, I will not move, and no, you will not hurt me. Kindly lay down and die.'
For me, Assassin honestly is lower in the scale because of the same redundancy reason you gave for Champion and other base abilities that do similar tasks. Theres already so much stealth stuff in the stealth category of rogue skills, and sure the one-shot kills factor is great but it isnt absolutely necessary. Honestly all the rogue classes in this game had some weird elements that made playing awkward. Tempest isnt useful most of the time unless enemies started trailing off the tank in the party, and Artificer for the reasons you gave I severely miss some of the rogue specializations in Origins and 2.
I actually really liked the necromancer; I don't remember if it was an ability or a perk on a piece of equipment, but it basically made whoever is using it get infinite mana after they die for a short while. This plus the self-revive meant I was basically waiting for Dorian to die so I can spam his spells, t was really fun and also really funny. And on the off-chance Dorian didn't revive himself my inquisitor had a revive spell ready
Have to defend Champion. It’s quite fun if you go two handed. Weapon and shield is just mind numbingly boring though. Best tank I’ve found is actually artificer. 100% crit chance, guard in hit, life gain poison weapons, walking fortress and Toxic cloud. The only thing that can take the Jaws of Hakkon by spamming toxic cloud. Stealth upgrade to reset Hakkon’s wrath. Of course throwing blade and trap/ mine spam also does buttload of damage
I think Artificer is the best for bow rogue thanks to Hail of Arrows. And Take Them Down + Opportunity Knocks is also a nice bonus. Bring Varric with you and the entire party crits much more.
The panic is likely designed for you to pair necromancer with Static Cage. Necromancer is more of a control dps class than straight dps. Champion is one of the quickest warrior specs in killing bosses. They solo Greater Dragons, in what, 2min? Quite positive Templar is the slowest boss killer of the three Warrior specs.
@@RazielTheUnborn templar is extremely slow at killing bosses I think I briefly referenced it in the video, unless that boss is a demon ofc, they really don’t do damage to bosses.
Tempest was cool and alongside knight enchanter before both got nerfed like with tempest when I was able to use fire flask and tier 3 focus thousand cuts and not be drained afterwards. If only people using templars on consoles able to use mods and use the templar unbound mod like on PC able to that made it more power that it's abilities affects all enemies especially the two ability combo known for
So I want to play through this game again (to finally get the platinum) but I was looking for a good good build, many people said Knight Enchanter but those vids were outdated. Then I came across your vids and you tell me it's #6 on the list and they nerfed the Hell out of it + your vids are Very recent but now i'm questioning wether I should or shouldn't use the Knight Enchanter build or go for any other build you mentioned? Can you or anyone please help me out here?
Knight Enchanter is still very good, I would say pick whatever one you think looks the most fun out of the top 6, really any competent build/subclass will beat the game easily on Nightmare
I‘m looking for a good class for my first playthrough. I‘m currently still at origins and I’m pretty certain that nothing will ever come close to arcane warrior, it’s just my perfect class fantasy that I thought up until recently no game ever had. I‘m just happy that I chose a mage, because the Origins sounded the most interesting to me. The knight enchanter, I guess that’s the DAI equivalent, looks absolutely terrible and not at all what an arcane warrior is. I guess they closest to that would be Templar? Since at least you have some magic like abilities while still looking like a warrior and having real melee combat. Are there any story differences that would make mage more interesting? I really like looking at dragon age through the perspective of a mage, since mages are kind of what makes this fantasy world special. On the other side templars are the other side of the coin or better the consequence of the mages, so playing one might be interesting too.
Templar is probably a closer equivalent to Arcane Warrior than Knight Enchanter yes. With that being said if you want to play mage and have good story, Rift Mage is pretty fun and makes the most sense story wise as well.
Me too thinked than the Reaver was a piece of shet for killing him self by his own moves, until I played it as a Warrior with shield and sword, is a total different history. Because his abilities to generate guard complement it and I can kill a dragon alone, I became virtualy immortal. The only problem off that is the cooldowns for keep my guard active, then I must be watchout of that and use the reaver drain life apropiately when i cant generate guard.
I was play it with a Dwarven warrior, very badass and tankie.

Ya. I forget who’s video it was. But the guy soloed the strongest Dragon in the vanilla game with assassin without giving the Dragon enough time to get up from sitting down.
