*Hands down one of the best reels I've used at this price point. **enjoyable.fishing** recommend Casts much better than expected and is very quiet! Great stocking stuffer ;)*
When ever I cast this certain bait caster it always just knots up then takes my lure with my line I’ve been usin shimano bait casters but never been user to one like this
Nice! How is the casting on the squall? Thinking about getting one cause it’s cheaper than other “staple” musky reels. Probably gonna get the 400 size.
I have a 200 and 300 high speed. I cast with them all the time for inshore in the Savannah GA area. I don’t use spinning reels anymore. I can cover a ton of water with this reel compared to using a spinning reel. Way more fun to use, can’t recommend them enough.
Would you rather take this real in a 300LH or a Okuma Komodo 300 LH, or a Daiwa Lexa 300 LH, or a Shimano tranx 300 LH??? I hear Okuma makes great reelz that last in saltwater very well so I'm debated between the Komodo ss 300 LH or a Lexa 300 LH Or a a tranx 300 also in the LH version... Or.. possibly this one reel... Let me know please because I know you would know what reel/reels to order for all saltwater fishing 99%. So what reel do you recommend for catching BIG Snook, medium size Tarpon, Bull Redfish , Cubera Snapper, Cobia, juvenile Goliath Grouper and also Permit.??? Also what's the best line strength to use for this baitcaster reel I'm getting asap.. Also what rod would work best? What Length? and what Brand? Also what power rod should I get And what lure rating should I get? I'll be throwing swimbaits in the 1oz to 3oz mainly.. Thanks again 🙏 🙏
Wonder if this would work paired with a 12 foot surf rod throwing a pompano rig and a 3-4 oz sinker. 80-100 yard casts. Currently use Penn Squall 15 SD which I like but this would be nice especially with the level wind.
I’ll be curious to see how popular these are. Aside from the Tranx, the only other left bait caster I’ve seen that can take the salt was the iron PT from quantum. That also had 24 pounds of drag but hasn’t been available for 5 years or so. Muskie fisherman throwing big baits might also take a liking to this reel.
I’m trying to save up for a penn fathom 2speed reel :) I’m looking for the 30 size maybe I’ll get this one seems like it might be a fun yellowtail reel.
What model squall comes with the double power knob shown in the video. When I look on the penn website it show all of the squalls with a single power handle.
Both the Fathom and Squall models have aluminum frame. The Fathoms have aluminum sideplate on the handle side, and the Squalls have both sideplates graphite.
The major issue with this model is how sharp some of the plastic pieces are. The most prominent one is the levelwind hood cover. Feel the bottom of it, very sharp edge. Every other baitcaster in the 300-400 size profile has this part smooth. Even the Penn fathom version. Very minor detail and maybe not even a noticeable issue to most people. I instantly noticed it while fishing my squall 400. Took a small file to it and very fine sand paper to smooth it out. About a 1 minute job.
I have both reels in the 300 size. I would say they are about even overall, except the 300 squall has 9 to 1 gearing available. The Lexa has the edge on cranking power, but this is to be expected when comparing a 7:1 reel to a 9:1 reel. For burning spinnerbaits over submerged weeds or other applications that require a high speed retrieve the Penn cant be beat.
Not Penn internals at all… Do Yo internals. This is nothing but a Lews HD, I hate to be right… but I am. These reels were co-signed out to a company called DO YO. Who also make the guess what? Yep the revo toro… and the Lews hd. All the same reels. Same gears, different hoods. I tell the truth..

I have the squall 300 size for pike and musky fishing and love it! A lot of power packed into a compact size reel.
Nice! How is the casting on the squall? Thinking about getting one cause it’s cheaper than other “staple” musky reels. Probably gonna get the 400 size.
Penn pure fishing definitely steping up their game. Adapting to the market .
These are great reels! I’ve been using mine for a year now and it has seen many fish and heavy salt. I want another

Love the spinning reels by Penn never used one of their baitcasters though
I’m glad that penn made a low profile reel
Very nice looking reel! Definitely on my wish list!
Always been a huge fan of penn 😍
cool looking reel love the power handle
Thanks for the video. Can't wait to check it out
I for one, am going to be casting with it….. Cobia, Mahi Mahi, Kingfish, & other pelagics.
Nice review. Keep them coming
That would be great for light to medium jetty & surf.
Love your reviews
What a great looking reel wow!
Nice reel - on my “to get” list!!!
this reel is a game changer for penn
This reel is sick!
I'm going to buy one for my high school fishing club.
Josh do they make a replacement power handle for this reel?
If only i had the money for all these reels
Going to have to get this reel. Lefty is the best.
Looks like a sweet reel !!!
I have to add this to my collection.
Sweet looking reel...Cheers from Maine

Taking the quality and design to where they should have been years ago.
I will stick with my Shimanos, but this does seem like a cool little baitcaster.
I would even use that for bass fishing
Love Penn spinners.I like too try bait caster

Is the levelwind synchronized? Is it moving while casting? Cheers...
Nice looking reel josh
Looks really good!
Great products!
Glad you like them!
First Baitcaster. Looking through cabelas everything at or below this pricepoint felts cheap and plasticy. Squall was solid and smooth
Exactly.
Love this reel
Would love to get one

These reels aren’t new. They’ve been out for years under different badges.
I’m trying to save up for a penn fathom 2speed reel :) I’m looking for the 30 size maybe I’ll get this one seems like it might be a fun yellowtail reel.
Found me a new baitcaster. 🔥🔥
Looks like a nice reel!!!
24 pounds of drag, crazy
How do you know its really a penn ??
It looks just like a Abu. Its exactly the same reel.
Looks nice and the price is right
Looks good!
Awesome reel
Love it!
Great video thanks
Love penn reels
Penn website states 20 lb of drag on the model 400.
As far as I know it's 24. The difference is negligible.
looks awsome
could i use this reel for bigger inshore species on the peir?
Would you recommend this or the daiwa lexa for inshore fishing?
I’ve been wanting one of these
Not a bad looking reel, want something for the west coast to throw in the surf, how well does it take to getting dunked?

Nice reel
Aluminum frame or graphite??
Both the Fathom and Squall models have aluminum frame. The Fathoms have aluminum sideplate on the handle side, and the Squalls have both sideplates graphite.
Nice looking reel. Give it to me Josh.
For jigging this might be cool. For casting - probably sticking to the shimanos

Is that similar with abu garcia revo toro beast?
I want one...both on the Penn and the gift card 😂
I dig it
Hey who won the Penn Torque® Lever Drag 2 Speed reel giveaway?
It’s about time they got back in the Low profile reel game. How would you compare these to say the Daiwa Lexa reels?
I have both reels in the 300 size. I would say they are about even overall, except the 300 squall has 9 to 1 gearing available. The Lexa has the edge on cranking power, but this is to be expected when comparing a 7:1 reel to a 9:1 reel. I need me one of these.
Penn is so good
🔥🔥🔥
Needs a flip n switch !
Every 400 I find has the power handle

Not for casting?
Hey how is everyone’s day ?
It was great man thanks for asking, I hope yours was good as well
Does anyone know if using a 8-10oz weight for offshore bottom fishing be a problem for this ? Or can it handle that?
Going to wear out the thumb clutch.
Daiwa lexa 400 or the penn squall 400? Cant decide....help
Which did you get?
Wish it had a bait clicker.
Why? Not that kind of reel.
@@jandhtackle penn reels one of the best out there . A versatile low profile baitcaster from them would go to the top. I figured they would do it .
Just got mine and out of box im impressed. Paired it to g.loomis pro blue. Hoping to battle some 🐖 snook
The 13 a3 much better reel. Same price or cheaper. 40lbs of drag 4oz lighter.
OK.
Is there a 400 fathom?
Yes, both regular speed and high-speed models, and "Lefty" in regular speed only.
🤙
Looks like they took a Lexa and gave it a black and gold paint job.
hope I win so I can get a new reel
its actually just literally an abu with the penn logo and one extra part. look at the schematic. Dont like them
Why don't you like them?
Hope I win the gift card
Love it!!
