Think about this too, this shit started with Stacy peralta and the rest of the zephyr boys too. Some of the first people to ever touch some success with that shit. Stacy put so many LEGENDS on with the bones brigade. Skating wouldn’t be what it is if he hadn’t passed the torch on.
Playing Tony Hawk 1 & 2 in the garage as a young kid and getting into and obsessed with skating was some of the best times if my life.. everything was skateboarding or bmx to me at that time and the game played a huge part.. I miss those birdhouse, hook ups, blind and world industries days 99-02 was peak skateboarding
That demo. We've all played that hanger a thousand times. I got mine on a Dreamcast Demo disc. In fact, I still have that Dreamcast and the Demo disk!!! I just realized that.... 🤯
Pizza hut used to give out free ps1 demos back in the day, and they had the OG THPS demo one time, and oooh boy that really changed my life and got me into skating.
Rodney Mullen shared a similarly interesting story on how THPS changed his life. He was skating around a seedy part of LA and was about to get jumped by hoodlums when they recognised the guy from the games and went full fangirl over Rodney instead of mugging him.

Tony is the most influential skater of all time. From his actual skating, to his impact on surrounding industries, he’s the GOAT. More people have picked up a board (or know about skateboarding) because of Tony Hawk than anyone else to ever ride on four wheels.
THPS got me into skating. Geoff Rowley had the darkslide as his special trick, which made me choose him as my favorite skater. Then he signed with Vans, which became my favorite shoes.
This game Tony hawk pro skater was basically like Mario or street fighter or metal gear , just one of those iconic all time games , and I’m glad that real people was the headlines of that game and everyone’s live changed for the better
So difficult to explain to people that don't skate how we view the world. Been skating for 40+ years and constantly analyzing everything in my environment to see what is skate able and what tricks are possible. Great clip btw. Rowley is certainly a legend and straight up ripper.
Honest. THPS/THUG/THAW caused an entire generation to pick up a skateboard for the first time. Same with the Skate series. Genuine real world impact thats recognized in both gaming and skating.
For me, it was THUG (Tony Hawk's Underground 1) that changed my life. Not only was it a great game for the time but I used to RP with my first childhood GF in it and it led to me eventually losing my V-card 😅 It's funny cuz GTA is used for RP these days and it's because I wasn't allowed to buy GTA back then, that I was left with THUG 😆
"I'm just glad you guys believed in it." "It really added a lot of authenticity" - i wonder how much those guys got paid. I've heard Tony say he made quite a bit of money off those games. Granted, he should definitely get more than those guys, but I'm also hoping they got a decent amount.
I was a street Rollerblader loved Arlo Eisenberg Brian Smith Matty Mantz then THPS came out and me and everyone I knew turned into skareboarders. Some people were also ashamed to have been a 'fruit booter' lol.
Yep before Tony Hawks 1 on Ps1 there was California games with a small bit of skating then Thrasher on Ps1 but the controls where a nightmare then Tony Hawks 1 came out and at last the best skating game yet and played it to death and loving the mini videos too.
Same 😂 hell i even used to mess his FIRST name up too. My young mind thought it was "G-Off" instead of "Jeff". Only learned recently his last name is "Roll-E" instead of "Rowl-E" lol Mike Vallely's name has given many trouble too saying "Valley" or "Va-Lay-Lee" and so on. Found out hearing him pronounce it that Its really "Val-La-Lee" lol
@Bb186fo Bro me too, I would say "G-Off" like that and even Mike "Valley" 😂 I wonder how many time they have had their names pronounce wrong to them because of this 🤔
It blows my mind that he came to my local park in North Wales before he went insanely huge. I mean he was amazing but just before he went really really amazing and there he is talking to Tony Hawk etc.
great story....now bring back the T-Bones!!! ....seriously, someone posted a video rolling some red monster truck tire t-bones the other day (I had blue ones) and all kinds of people were saying 'bring it back'...I said yeah...
Me and my friends were just kids just getting in to skateboarding back then and we’d play the games to get the tapes and watch the videos… now my buddy is a Pro himself
Does anyone know of someone who turned down an offer to be part of thps1-2? I would be quite interested to know how narrow or wide the list of potential Pros was. Too bad Templeton wasn't in the game.
@@henaresadlier I think I remember him talking about it before. He didn't make an effort to be in the first one bc he wasn't sure how successful it would be and he was on his skate rat vibe back then. He definitely joined the roster on THPS2 haha

Met Geoff Rowley at Our Lady of Guadalupe hand rail in the city of la habra. There was a 10 stair hand rail near the back end of the Church that was a popular spot back in the day. We had a pretty cool interacción.
Tony hawk really help put a lot of his friends and peers on with that game. What a legend. Legendary game, iconic game. Legendary/iconic human.

THPS1 Demo changed my perspective on life forever! From the soundtrack to my first introduction to skating. Completely shaped me even till this day. 💯
This game, and the feeling of watching him land the 900, changed up my whole shit

The entire clip is just shots of Tony and Geoff talking, then all of a sudden they go to a wide shot and just show Jason chillen in a cowboy hat 😂
This guy had the best Vans shoes ever made.
Gotta love everything about this clip. What an extraordinary human!
It changed more peoples lives than Tony will ever know
How can you not like this guy such passion solid solid man
this game was such a awesome part of childhood around junior high age. great memories playing this with friends after school and then going skating

Geoff dude I was always pick you man! I loved you skating in the 2000s. You the man
He was my go to in the game. The dark slide was so sick!
Everyone associated with THPS's life was changed. From the devs to the bands to the skaters. Just awesome all around. Tony is such a cool dude.

There’s so many things about skating that gets dogged on by outsiders for the mischief but there are so many great stories that happened from it
Geoff is a legend!
Why are they showing the N64 version lol?
I was a street Rollerblader loved Arlo Eisenberg Brian Smith Matty Mantz then THPS came out and me and everyone I knew turned into skareboarders. Some people were also ashamed to have been a 'fruit booter' lol.
23 years later im still skating!

i already watch the full podcast when it came out but i still enjoy watching over bits later. i cant say i do that with many padcasts (if any)
I used to pick him in the first two games because of the darkslides.

Geoffs accent is mad...still got a touch ov scouse in there..ha ha
Yea, scouser that’s spent a decent chunk of time in the states. It’s a weird mix XD
ellis makes every one of these unwatchable.
Geoff Rowley is the Johnny Depp of skating
His life got changed by a videogame but he can't respect competition in the olympics... highly regarded skater
Except thps actually highlighted alot of the culture.
Olympics are stupid. Geoff is a legend and keeps it real.
What accent is that? Sounds like 3 accents mushed together
A know a guy who used to skate with him in Liverpool, so maybe he's originally from there, mixed with american accent now it seems..
That's a Scouse accent (Liverpool, England) mixed with 30 years of living in California.
