You didn't make me fall in love with my Floyd again, Herman. You just reminded me how much work it is. Great tips though.
😂😄
this haha was looking at a gotoh or floyd bridge but think ill stick with hardtail loool
I never realized how thin his prs was. Wow
Ikr
yeah 1 of a kind custom specs including body. He has another one on the way with Dragon inlay.
Why is it the only cool prs guitars that have modern features and have what people actually want are only limited editions or one offs for musicians even though when they do make limited runs they sell like crazy but they never make it a standard model
@@DC13c16 Easy question if you want one buy a Private Stock they will make everything for you without exceptions. You just have to pay for it.
I learned from this video. I really wish he would release that PRS into production. I want one just like that...no fancy inlays!!!
Herman you probably need to make something for 1M subs
He needs to practice Above the Winter Moonlight like he said he would! haha he knows I'm kidding and that there are a group of us who love to joke with him about that song (but he also knows we would all love it!)
wym he just did an advertisement for d'addario
5 days ago it was 97K subs..now its 1M
Make that 1.01 million
I love my Floyd rose but she don't love me , (sad offtune blues noise)
Just use her as you'd use a normal tremolo... it's how she was designed anyway. ;)
Herman you gotta make that prs custom your signature model, I love the paint work and the gold hardware, I hope that I buy one someday.
PRS guitars minimum are like $1,300 imagine how much Herman Li's model will be just because it has the name "Herman Li"
@@the404error7 Unless they do an SE/S2 model
He said it's around 20k$ so probably not going to be a mass marketed model lol
@@the404error7 they always do an SE model too.
as long as its that thin i'm in lol
For a moment I thought I was in physics class 😂
Definitely brought back memories of physics class.
I clicked on this video hoping to find some love again for Floyd Rose bridges, but it reminded me why I only use fixed bridge guitars since my first one.
I'm starting to think that guitars with a Floyd are more common than I thought, for example my dream guitar is a Jackson RR and I can't find one with a hard tail bridge, but I don't have the money for it anyway. Guess it's not something I should worry about just yet.
Floating bridge guitars are the manual gearboxes of guitars! You just have to have that extra bit of love and desire to learn and use 'em, and they're very rewarding once mastered :)
Some great ideas in here I'll have to try, but one question... instead of clipping the ball off the string as the first thing, why not just insert the string from the opposite end at the start? Then you can just clip the ball with the excess string after it's locked in? Obviously not a big deal, was more curious if there's a reason you choose not to? :)
that's what I've always done and never had an issue with it
It works if not using heavy gauge strings
I kept the ball ends. But some said we should lock the bridge with the ball end side because there's a part where the string is wounded thicker
@@vege-gaming You can always clip the string past the part where it's thicker. Just don't push it that far into the tuning peg.
@@dizzyrick7653 thanks for the information
As someone who just recently started to play guitar, I found this video really informative. Thanks a lot , sir!
Can't wait to get my first Floyd Rose guitar.
Oh my god. This floating bridge tip about how to recover a full collapse... tuning the bridge.. 20 years and I never knew this, and have literally had a mental breakdowns fucking with Floyd roses, and eventually gave up on using them all together... I will try this now.
That was awesome! Thanks Herman. Man, your PRS looks incredible! I also didn’t realize how thin it is! 🤘🎸⚡️🙏
Thanks Herman! Waiting for new contents like this! Very helpful!
Awesome job! I have been trying different type of adjustments after changing my strings to my floyd for years. keeping it in tune is not easy i like that you really centered the idea of balance and equilibrium to the bridge is truly the key thx for the detailed video
I have a Charvel San Dimas II in blue with the Rose and it's my favorite guitar I've ever played. It's been really humbling learning how to really excel at playing with a trem, because you have to be much more conscious of every little bit of tension, even on strings you aren't playing. Now I'm tuned to C# standard and I'm doing a bunch of BTBAM songs, and just for fun I'm learning Bleed as well.
HOLY SHIT IT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE!!! THIS IS GENIUS
My floyd rose always took me hours to get it right but with this method you deal with each variable by themselves (first put all strings in the same tune to THEN put then on tune considering the bridge)
I will apply that to my guitars from now, thanks Herman! 🔥
Brilliant piece of advice regarding tuning the bridge. Thanks for that.
thanks herman, great tips
Just got myself an Ibanez with a floyd rose. Thank you so much Herman, your videos helped a ton to set it up!
Great video, thanks Herman!
PRS needs to make that guitar available in someway shape or form!
Technically it is available since they also build custom guitars. I'm sure they'd be happy to build you one if you shoot them an e-mail and tell them Herman's spec is how you want yours to be. You wallet might not like it as much as you, though.
Cool video dude, thanks!
This video is gold, thank you master
Nice and educational, thank you ❤
May the balance of the force be with you, Hernan Li!
thank you for the educational clip
CONGRATS ON 1 MILLION!!!
HOLY SHIT, GG on 1 Mil Herman Li and Dragonforce! What a freaking accomplishment! :)
Thankfully I finally understood after watching this video, thank you very much sifu Herman Li..🤘
Happy 1 million subscribers 😇😇
Wow. That's probably the nicest PRS I've ever seen 🤯 thanks for this btw 🙏🏽
Grrr8 video Herman! I have been using Floyd Rose bridges since the mid 80s and love them.!
You can't ask for a better bridge for tuning stability! I hope others benefit from this video.
I know so many guitarist that simply hate The Floyd Rose!
I'm sure they all will change their minds once they understand how they really work.
Cheers from sunny Sunrise Florida 😎...!!!
Congrats on 1 MILLION SUBS!!
Congrats on 1 mil subs
that blocking the bridge trick is also how you will need to perform a drop in tuning. set up for standard, dropping say half step down or more. same process. Thanks Herman.
I love the floating tremolo systems, Floyd Rose, Schaller, Gotoh, Sophia, FU-Tone, Edge, Khaler, you name it, as long as it's build with top-quality materials. Since I bought my Ibanez RG with an Edge on it, I would not buy a guitar without one ♥
You sir, are the man! Greetings from Mexico!!!
I used to say that...until I bought a les paul without one.
So your Edge is not detuning as mine is? Perhaps you can give me some tipps I would apprieciate it. I just put it apart to clean and oil it ...
Bought an upgrade to my guitar that was stolen and I chose and low end floyd rose which I had no experience with and the tips regarding the balancing of the bridge with the inner stabilizing springs was exactly what I was looking for I also just like watching Herman's vids
1M subs!
Congrats!
Congrats on 1mil subs
Damn never knew about the Low E trick, thanks a lot Herman
On of the things I love about kahlers is that they can lock into a fixed bridge with the simple twist of a screw, making restringing much easier.
Great info having just made a 7 string with a copy Floyd Rose bridge i had it on and off a tone of times .you can Take off each bridge block and individually adjust its height by skimming the bottom so the strings match the fret board curve its a lot of work but the results are good as your able to get the action much lower on the out side strings especially having built several now i now that bridge inside out lol
I love the floyd rose string change ritual
Congrats man! You finally reach 1M SUBS!
Congratulations for the 1M subs
I love that thumbnail
Congratulations for 1 million subscribe
All great tips. It didn't go into the greatest of details, but did at least touch the basics to making it work right - stretching the strings is critical with a Floyd Rose or other floating bridge. I'd also recommend making sure the bridge's posts/studs are lubricated with something like a PTFE dry lube, if it's a new guitar, the springs for the bridge also need to be stretched a bit, and personally, I've found the NYXLs to be more stable than the XL strings.
This is very good info, especially since I'll be adding a new guitar to my collection and it'll be my first with a floating bridge.
I've been preaching this all over UA-cam for a little while now. Trying to reduce some of the Floyd Rose hate with a little info. They really aren't that bad to deal with. Some people just never take the time to learn how to deal with them and make it much easier. The only time I take more than one string off at a time is if I'm going to do some maintenance on the neck or bridge.
Absolutely. First time stringing can be a little painful but the sound and tone the guitar gives is worth it
Mostly dont like floating cause the tuning changes from minor things like the angle you hold it. Herman demonstrated that in other video. And once you pull up your tuning your tuning is sharp. Once you dive bomb its flat.
The string change is easy piece but all the other little annoying tweaking and retuning is a mood killer
Learning to deal with floyds is like learning guitar all over again. Not fun in the slightest
I’m glad I watched this bc I just got a schecter demon with a Floyd rose bridge and the first time I restrung it I had no idea what the hell I was doing and my bridge slapped back. Now I have some valuable infi
Thank you very much Herman, no one has ever explained a floyd rose like that to me bofore :))
1 MILLION WOOOO!!!
I played my Ibanez STM1 for 12 years with the stock Edge III tremolo (no shade to the EGEN; the Iceman just spoke to me!) and because I didn't know any better I'd long assumed that all Floyd Rose-style tremolo systems had the same problems staying in tune. I used to wonder how the hell Sam could possibly rely on this guitar on tour if I couldn't even keep it in tune treating the tremolo with kid gloves. When I learned that the STM1 Sam plays on tour actually uses the same Edge Zero bridge as Herman's EGEN, it all suddenly made sense (and I'll admit I felt slightly duped by Ibanez). I recently took the plunge and had some surgery done to replace the Edge III with a Lo-Pro Edge and it's like a whole different guitar.
Herman - you're doing god's work with this Floyd Rose educational content. I feel like so many people (myself included) buy awesome guitars that are unfortunately kitted with low-quality floating bridges and then give up out of frustration and write Floyd Roses off completely. I remember how frustrating and time-consuming it was figuring this stuff out back then, and it makes me happy knowing that these vids are surely saving people that headache and giving them the tools to get the most out of their Floyds! :D
I am so jealous of that PRS. It is absolutely beautiful.
His bridge spring adjustability looks incredible
Am waiting for that 1 million ❤️
Herman such a cool dude, saw your guitar challenge with Stevie T. Your content is cool and very informative. Subscribed!
I didn't realize just how custom that PRS was. Got that thin S body and an Edge trem? Wild.
I didn't know that! I've avoided FR like the plague cause it's been difficult to tune up.
Thank ya.
Back before I understood what the difference was my first electric guitar had a floyd rose bridge. Existence was pain when I tried to string it up for the first time. After I spent hours researching, stretching the strings, tightening, and loosening the springs and getting the sound perfect, my mate picks it up and tries to drop it into drop D...... I died a little inside.
Those are some great tips to make it less painful. After the 10th time restringing it just gets easier
It's been said about Floyd's ...."Some swear by them, some swear at them."....haha.....Some of my biggest influence's and guitar heroes....From Eddie, to Vai to Satch, to Brad Gillis, to Dimebag to Herman Li.....ALL FLOYD EXPERTS!!!.......Myself? Well ever since another hero of mine, Jake E Lee did all that cool "neck bending. dive bomb, tuner de-tune, trick (don't forget the side split lunge with the hair flip...haha) my fascination with Floyd's withered. Jake, Zakk and "Behind the Nut Love" John 5 always seem like they earn their tricks the old fashioned way. ...Regardless, if you are going to be a Floyd guy, than learn about them. Excellent presentation Herman.....As for me?, I still; have to work on my Jake E Lee side lunges stretches but I am getting there...haha...Cheers once again Herman.
Thanks for all the good the tips. It can really be a nightmare to tune gitars with a floyd rose system. Looking forward to try these tips on one of my ibanez RG guitars with Floyd Rose that I gave up on many years ago😅🙂👍
I’m considering using a floyd again- one of the most informative videos! Cardboard works too haha I used it on my charvel bridge 😂
That PRS is insane.
I have a BC Rich with a Floyd Rose and it's one of the most stable guitars I have, tuning-wise. However, my guitar teacher, who knows Floyd Rose and had one of the first ones ever made, sets it up for me.
If this hack is solving my problem with my Ibanez Edge and the everlasting detuning I will be the happiest guitarrist alive. Your videos help a lot to keep me sane, I don't wanna give up, it must be worth getting it back in shape. Thanks a lot! I try out to tune it by the springs.
I put my EDGE 1986 apart on my RG550 1994ish as the guitar guy had no idea and didn't touch my bridge to oil or set it up even I gave it to him for that reason, to clean and set up the guitar so it won't detune anymore. Vai used one of these on his JEM, and it's not detuning on his guitar back in the day.
He has no clue but pretended to have, I learned more here and while my research the last week as he knows I bet. What bothers me that I had it in my feeling that I was right with my theories why it's unstable and it can be fixed, and that it is a proper bridge even if not original Floyd Rose, but didn't want to be a difficult customer and give the young guy a chance to learn on it. He's the expert I thought. It wasn't even set up parallel to the body ...
Thanks again! I'm positive now to get it back to rock!
Someone in the chat asked how you clean and oil the fretboard when you don't remove all the strings. You can still work it with one string at a time. Basically when you remove the high E, clean and oil the section you have clear. Repeat for each string. You can also get between the strings when they are all installed. It's really not a huge deal just takes longer. Apply your cleaner and/or oil to your cloth and then wipe, don't squirt it right on the fretboard so you don't gum up the strings too much. Then I use a string conditioner/cleaner to make sure all the oils are removed. If you use a coated string you just need to wipe it with a dry microfiber like usually comes with the maintenance kits you can get from Amazon or your local music store.
Idk if I want my new guitar anymore 😂😂😂 but seriously I did learn some things from this video. Thanks !
Road to 1 million
Great video! It is very common to see great guitar players that doesn’t know how to adjust the tremolo, it is really helpful, I wonder if you use the tool that moves the saddles for setup the intonation, thanks for sharing y saludos desde México.
Herman Li talkin' 'bout floyd rose physics. Well, now I've seen everything. I wish I've seen it three years ago when I bought my first guitar, he-he. Somehow came to all of it by myself
Thanks Herman. I needed that tipp. Since I am currently fighting my cheap China Floyd Rose and setup the guitar I had to take off all strings more often. Sometimes very much annoying.
Anyways I'll ditch that POS soon for a Schaller made Floyd. when that's all done I'll only change strings 1 by 1. Should never have to bother much with tension and intonation.
On that note: Thick strings intonation not an easy task.
2:46 thats what she said😂😂
At 6:57 my two favourite things collide. Herman is one with the Force.
yo literally saved my life, now my egen18 is always in tune
Wow, exactly the advice I needed. My Ibanez Floyd Rose gives me hard times. Thank You Herman
Same here, same guitar brand, but love it all the way now
Wooow 李康敏!long time no see! Always your fans!
nice video. i saw someone use some business cards like 8-10 or whatever instead of cardboard. it looks daunting the first few times but its not too bad. i mean its a pain but its not too bad. so dont be scared of the FR!
you rock man! What tuner do you recommend? for precise tuning like you are doing?
Thank you for the video how re string a Floyd!
I hidratate my fretboard with old strings on, is very hard but i always take one string at a time to put a new one, that way is always balaced and perfect, once you have already optimized for you. I will never have it all removed to re-string, i would loose all the perfection, even intonation is spot on in most of the seasons.
I think I am more happy with the zero Edge Tremolo system than the fully floating bridge, It’s a freaking headache for me
THEY HIT 1M SUBS
My savior
Thanks for the tips Herman, I'm an intermediate guitarist who is a victim of his own ignorance, because my guitar has a floyd rose and I have to live with it.
Adam Riever at FU Tone has a great video on restringing a Floyd Rose and how to adjust the springs. 👍🎸
OK, Herman has convinced me, I'l be getting a string through design...
so close to 1m subs
Important video
That's the best prs I've ever seen, I live in Maryland and don't own a prs bcuz I love the flashy stuff like that but they our more classy
Great video, but definitely reminded me why I only play guitars with hardtail or string thru bridges!
I adjust the back spring till the piece of block I am using falls off. That way I know its gonna stay in tune with a stright floyd
This just reminds me how much work it is for the arguably little return. Maybe if I can get good at playing the REST of a Dragonforce song THEN I will practice the crazier whammy bar sections and get good at dealing with the floating bridge. (I do love my Egen tho. But I can never change the strings...)
If herman wouldnt have this cool accent it wouldnt be as much fun;0
997,000 subscribers!!! :DDDD
or getting a sophia tremolo 2.92 with global tuner pro would make me fall in love with floating tremolo
Never thought a guitar would stress me out this much
That's why I love dead bridge more.
