As a note, a few other reviewers have noted the break in period for this paddle taking some time to fully unlock the sweet spot and forgiveness, so players should keep that in mind.
@kylepickleball hey! Can you give an update on your paddle preference between these two once your hyper is broken in? I’m in between purchasing these two!
@@joeypupillo5210 yep, ordered the Hyper from Pickleball Warehouse so I could try it for 30 days before deciding to keep it. My Pulse V just opened up and it's great, a small bump in power/pop and more plush. All of that without any perimeter weighting. Hyper will be different, going to need weight to increase the twist weight/sweet spot. It should have a good sweet spot compared to other Gearbox paddles but it's not in league with my Pulse V. I'm more interested in the power/pop differential.
@@joeypupillo5210 not as much as what John Kew got but he received an earlier model.Mine is in line with what others are seeing from when the production first dropped, it's a bump in power/pop but not stupid like the traditional Gen 3s. It does get more plush although not from core crushing. It's just a great paddle and I'm not seeing an broken in Hyper being able to compete with it but I've got 30 days to find out.
Good question! These are paddles I would put in the exact same power category with minimal differences on paper (once the Gearbox is broken in). The Gearbox is faster through the air and better for flat counter attacks, the Scorpius 3S is more stable and has a larger sweet spot but a tiny bit slower in the hands. - Joseph
There are a few J2K options to choose from, but across the board the Gearbox Pro Ultimate Hyper will have more pop and power once broken in. We don't carry the J2K, but I believe they are hybrid shapes while this Gearbox is a standard shape giving it a slightly shorter and wider profile. This will likely be a better counter puncher and put the ball away better than the J2K while those models will likely have a bit more control. Hope this helps! - Joseph

CORRECTION: The paddle model is the Gearbox PRO Ultimate Hyper 8.0, I got switched around on the Ultimate and the Hyper.
My Hyper arrives tomorrow, looking forward to see how it stacks up against my Pickleball Apes Pulse V which I really love

Also, where did the power and pop end up with your Pulse V? There’s been some confusion around the break in of that paddle

How does the power/pop/control compare to the Joola 3S Scorpius 16mm after it's broken in?
