ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! Thank you for all of the high-definition video and audio!! Loved all of it!! Pacing 4014 and listening to the beat of those pistons! Incredible!! As a child I grew up seeing and climbing aboard this majestic engine at the Los Angeles Fairgrounds in Pomona, California. The last visit we were blessed to see the Big Boy being prepared by Union Pacific Engineers for its journey.
Grey Summit. Coming out of the tunnel. The whistle. Overhead shots. Completely perfect. I’m jealous by but what a great job. Editing is splendid. Pacing, well. Wow!!!!!
@@FanRailer just one of the best videos and I’ve watched a lot. I’m seriously impressed with this one. Would you have any idea the number of miles you drove doing this one video?
These did not pull anything near 5 miles in length anywhere. Tonnage over Sherman hill was at most about 6000, which translates to about 1 mile of train.
I got a steam train playlist I started a couple yrs ago and I'm still saving videos on videos I got around almost 2,000 videos I got 1,300 videos in the playlist
Sure, but it would only be moving said mile long train up the hill at 15 mph. Passenger operations dictate shorter and lighter consists for higher speed operation over the same territory.
The 4000s were designed to do 80 mph max, tested up to 72 mph, and run in service up to 65 mph, so no, they would not get 100 out of her even if she was running light.
@rudycarlson8245 Mostly for braking power. The big boy has no dynamic brakes or air compressor and cannot activate the brakes on the cars like modern locomotives can. Unless they have updated her, which I don't believe they have to my knowledge.
.... 4014 has always had air compressors and the ability to actuate the train brakes. It would not be considered road-worthy otherwise. How do you think it ran with 4,000 ton freight trains back in the day with no diesel assistance?

Well, over the course of the entire tour, probably about 1,500 miles or so.
Imagine how massive a double header would be once 3985 is brought back to life!
Outstanding! This is a great compilation!
Glad you enjoyed it!
And that dude in the blue shirt standing between the cab and the tender!! And the sound and the fury of 4014!!!!!
King of all steam loco family.
Incredible compilation with the tags on the bottom. Well done.
All US geography in one short clip' Thank you, Mr Fan Railer!

Nice video!
Awesome video!
A locomotive strong enough to pull a 5 mile long fright train up the grade of Sherman Hill pulling 12 cars. Like an elephant pulling a mouse.

I think it was 3 miles that they said on flat ground, when they built them.
Great videos, thank you for sharing
:O me & my son love articulated locomotives especially 4014 & 3985

The SR-71 of steam engines....🤘
Hey I know this is a bit off topic but it seems like your alp 45 mod has stopped working for me
Was the ground shaking? :D
Nice video. Likes
ok my research was lacking about a 5 mile train, but a mile long train you would have to admit is a lot longer than 12 cars.

Y does a 700 horsepower beast like him need an assistant hooked on behind?
70000! My bad😂

Nice video! What camera was used?
Mostly my iPhone. The zoom shots are from the Sony.
Why is it shooting steam at the tracks
That's sand, for traction.

A demonic locomotive with a demonic whistle
Dump off those heavy assed diesels and let her run they'd probably get 100 out of her

The diesel trains werent on when i saw her
The diesels were there because of insurance reasons, and for back up
