How is it that you guys don't know what Jojo's is? Even me who didn't watch it know about the references and the power system
I managed to go through the entirety of Attack on Titan blissfully unaware, I never knew it was Eren, I never knew it was Annie, and every other "obvious" moment coming up was also a surprise to me, It is both a blessing and a curse! I just recently re-watched it all with a friend and even he seen all the stuff I missed xD

Jojo's reference refers to "Jojo's Bizarre Adventure", probably one of the most popular/iconic anime out there, especially in the manga/anime author community. It's well known for very iconic lines, manga panels, poses, etc. that are just incredibly visually distinct, so it makes it easy to have a character say or do something that is very clearly using the same composition as a panel from the Jojo manga.
Its so widely popular in Japan that a lot of other anime/manga actually slip in Jojo's references into their own shows/manga with stunning regularity.
Really immersive narrative-focused shows like Attack on Titan and Fullmetal Alchemist won't have them because obviously the story is front-and-center, but anything that's more lighthearted than those will probably have a Jojo's reference somewhere over the course of the show. The closest AOT comes to associating with Jojo is that Commander Erwin's voice actor is the same as a very popular protagonist from Jojo's and a character introduced in the next season shares a voice actor with a very popular antagonist from the same part of Jojo's.
By the nature of reaction channels, you'll probably get mostly recommendations of hard-hitting, narrative-driven shows, so you probably won't encounter just how prevalent making references to it is in the industry as a whole.
As an aside to that: Are you guys covering the OVAs Ilse's Notebook and No Regrets? (Or even going as far as covering the very optional OVAs from the same release as well?)

Wow. Hold your horses. Jojo might be one of the most recognizable anime / mango out there. But it's definitely not the most popular. According to the data from MAL, it is not even in the top 100. And there are anime such as hatarakou maou sama, which is ok. But it is not outstanding. Or NGNL, which a lot of people hate because of loli / incest.
Jojo only comes out just behind the top 100. And it's somewhere between yaoi and anime where people have an orgasm from eating.

jojos bizarre adventure is an anime and its a pretty big source for many memes and for many references that the community uses in their jokes, and the secret technique of running away that Hannes told is joke from the show.

Believe it or not I saw a few reactor who were convinced the female titan was Mikasa even after it was revealed it was Annie. One of them even complained that Annie being the female titan came out of nowhere and the audience should have been given more clues. I don't usually judge people for not catching stuff but if even a dumbass like me who watched the show with their brain turned off and missed almost anything could inmediatly realize it was Annie, I do kind of judge that a bit.
I know exactly who you're talking about and that gag theory got old after the first mention or so. Obviously it wasn't meant to be a serious theory but it got annoying fast.

The thing about the titans being Eren and Annie is that as long as you imagine the possibility (which most do), you can't be convinced otherwise. I never even imagined it. I found out about Eren when he got out of the titan, and I found out about Annie when Armin explicitly says that she didn't kill him back at the expedition. I was very surprised and confused at both reveals xD
The only time it was probably not obvious was when it first aired, people who didn't know about the Manga were probably shocked when it turned out that way, I watched it a lot later and I could tell it was eren but I didn't think of annie when the female titan showed up. Then she wakes up at the start of the episode and it was 100% her for me

I mean i watched this season when i was like 15? So not the most focused on figuring out the secrets, as well as not going into it told there would be major secrets so i wasnt really looking for them. Isayama has a good habit of putting distracting shit along with the obvious stuff.
also Levi , Mikasa and Kenny cannot be changed into Titans due to their make up.. ie that they are somehow part Titan themselves (hence the incredible strength and immunity to Zeke's yell)

this attack on titan in 9 minutes video was uploaded during the 4 year long wait between season 1 and season 2, when anime watchers are anxiously waiting for what's gonna happen in season 2, manga readers laughing maniacally, and everyone in the fandom are just using humor to cope with the tragedy in the show. this show has a very meme-able quality to it, and so gigguk referenced a lot of the memes and inside jokes in the fandom. so when there's a joke you don't get, that's the reason why 😁

11:51 is exactly what I meant when I said that some fans are (I'm sorry) stupid sometimes in terms of how they interpret things that are meant to be known by paying the least amount of attention. Isayama's style of writing is "show don't tell" he wants to shows you,let you guess,question,theorise. That's literally the joy of the story. I understand that sometimes because there's many hidden details that we can miss them,WHICH is what he wants. But these ones where you guess because he showed you(like Eren's and Annie they were also obvious to me surprised that it wasn't for many but SHOCKED that they think it's spoilers). BUT it's because he wants you to be like that at first..then make you learn to focus on hidden meanings and/or details. Isayama is brilliant he's not dumb that he doesn't know many people will realise it MIGHT be Eren. Strong emphasis on 'might' because he wants you to be like;"yeah this titan kind of behaves differently,this titan is in Mikasa's words;embodiment of humanity's rage. Slowly;oh this titan is seriously behaves differently,he doesn't show interest in humans. Oh he might be similar to these 2,oh this titan CAN fight in combat style unlike other titans. Oh this titan is only fighting other titans and only wants to fight titans,could it be?oh no that's impossible how? Oh no I'm definitely wrong the author won't do that,that's an information "WE WEREN'T GIVEN/shown",oh he's still following them but not attacking them and then oh he's being a target to the titans,maybe I'm not wrong. I mean it looks like Eren!! That's silly but...OH ATTACKED THOMAS...AM I RIGHT AM I WRONG IT'S IMPOSSIBLE THOUGH HOW WTF WHEN OH IT'S JUST ME NO MAYBE YES NO NO YES NO" and then you're shown Eren. Lol and about Annie it's the same train of thoughts that you both had in your reaction video(I don't want to type lol)...because we already learnt that there's ones that are intelligent. A hint was in ep-5 when Eren tried to attack the Colossal and when Erwin LITERALLY confirmed it by saying he's just like them. Intelligent aka;human tranformer. There's given info that Marco's death was mysterious and no one knew when,or how he died. There also shown info that they investigate about the 3DM gears. Then the expedition and that Annie joined the MP. Then you're introduced to the female titan. And the real surprise isn't that it's Annie. IT looks like her and has combat skills like Annie...her reaction to Armin by leaving him. Were all meant to be noticed and clear. In Annie's case Isayama built up everything(the evidences from what we know of info already)and obviously the looks all to make you think "it's Annie it's Annie" he purposely made it obvious. Why? Because he wants you to think that that's the real surprise.."like okay we get it Isayama it's definitely Annie . You're not even trying to hide it" or those who let their ego flip them "this is too obvious. Does the author think we're dumb and can't figure it out?from everything we've seen to her looks?does he think we're babies or is he not smart enough..thinking we won't figrue that out? This show is TOO SIMPLE" but then comes the real surprise which is Erwin's plan!!! That IS THE SURPRISE!!!!!!!

Btw just go back and rewatch that part of the episode where they catch Annie. The episode is titled;"Erwin Smith" the episode that is previous to it end with Levi guiding his squad and not telling them what to do or gave them any order other than;keep moving forward. Then he fires a sound/noise-gun. The cliff-hanger is that. The author was trying to trick the audience by making them think;oh that's Annie it's obvious. Some to think it's too obvious,we have seen that before and we have evidence that there's a strong possibility it's her. And others whom are egotistical;this show/story is too simple,what does he think of his audience?dumb and won't catch it?. For Isayama to just flip it on everyone that NO that wasn't the surprise. It's Erwin and his plan. Which is why both in the anime and the manga that chapter is titled;"Erwin Smith". He's intelligent and legendary but still this story is very very realistic so even when you win there's always the fact that you lack information. They didn't know about her Crystal abilities...he didn't expect that she would call the titans. Even if they do know that the other titans attack the intelligent ones like they know from what happened to Eren. With Eren he was overpowered by their number but unintentionally. But she did that on purpose,something they didn't see before or expect. It's the reality of what the Survey Corps are in. They're powerful in mind,strategy and physically. But that can't change the laws and rules of their world. But he basically learnt that the enemy is willing to make the titans eat them to hide the evidence,so at all costs they'll do it. Not just that but they also will do everything to get Eren. So these are information in themselves. That Eren is that important to the enemy,and 2nd is that they enemy will do anything to hide all and every evidence. Just like how she killed Sawyne and Bean. Which gets us back to Armin's quote;'Those who can't sacrifice anything can't change anything". Erwin basically. I know that you realise that I'm just rambling😂.

@@uniquescience7047 he's been making videos since 2012, so I was mistaken. "Only" 10-11 years. I made a mistake conflating when I started to get into anime and when my friend showed me some of his videos which at the time were some of the biggest anime-wise on the platform.

I remember when I watched season one 8 years ago, I had no idea about Eren and Annie. With Eren, the timing was slightly fishy, but the idea of a titan shifter didn’t exist so I didn’t even consider it seriously. With Annie, I had no idea until Mikasa literally said it. If you aren’t binging the show, recording reactions, rewatching, or intentionally trying to make predictions, then it’s probably fair to be surprised. I went a few days before watching the “Annie revealed” episode so the whole time I was just confused XD

If you guys are looking for another "dark", misterious anime i highly recommend Made in Abyss, is insanely beautiful, and the art style is iconic, AoT is my second favorite because this is the first.
MIA is one of my top anime as well, but it’s not one of those shows you could watch when you’re new to anime. They’d be extremely uncomfortable with a lot of the questionable scenes, which would take away from the experience. They need some watch some more anime (especially ones out of their comfort zone) to get into it imo.
@@naomifiction2255 I dont know... For me going from AoT to MiB it just gets a little more grafic (extra grafic for the movie), but the show has a whole identity of is own, if you like well writen characters, a compelling story and such creative world design i think is a must watch.
Ps: But the movie for sure is disturbing even tho is in a beautiful way.
I don't think it's a good recommendation purely on the basis that it is incomplete. AoT is complete. Death Note, Full Metal Alchemist, Steins;Gate, are all complete series so it makes sense to recommend them considering they are not otaku anime/manga consumers. Incomplete series are always a problem to recommend imo if the person it is being recommended to is not one who would go out of their way to continue the story in another medium.

11:32 They definitely edited the mouths. That's one of the things about the animation in anime. There are many scenes in which characters talking are just mostly static frames with just the mouth being animated. This lends itself very easily to fan-edits where they just replace the mouth animations to do their own dubbing.
You can see a lot of this in the teamfourstar abridged series of different animes as well.
Hehe you should react to jojos openings one day, you may love them. And 1 sec of every jojos episode (you wont get spoiled i promise) hehe

So yeah, the Jojo thing kind of gets everywhere.
It's an amazing series that have influenced a LOT of media that have come out of japan..... and like the collab between the artist and high end clothing brands. Heck, I know there's a spin off of the series sold at the Louvre as it features the Louvre in the story.
It's.... different. It's flamboyant, over the top, funny, but absolutely takes itself seriously. And.... well you're doing okay with AoT so you should be good with the body horror in Jojo. There's a fair bit of it. I'd definitely say check out the OP's/ED's and both the 1 and 2 seconds from every episode of Jojo videos.
Don't worry about spoilers if you do decide to look into these videos. While they are riddled with them, it's so out of context and so much to take in that you likely won't remember enough to be spoiled. Again, watch out for trolls and spoilers in the comments.
You guys really need to do "A Slap On Titan" too, it's really an awesome series!

I think you should watch the 5 OVAs first then season 2. They were released at that time for a reason. What fans tell you is their opinion and don't worry there's no spoilers. That's just fans wrong perspective and own interpretations of what's important and what's a "spoiler"...what you're meant to know at that time is what the author wants you to know at that time. That's just fans own perspective really it's not what 'should be'.So it's better to watch them in order as they are. As the first 3 OVAs are prequels. While Levi's 2 OVAs(4&5) depict his own backstory. The last 3 OVAs(6,7,8) should be after you finish watching Season 3-Part-1.

Also this should be common sense but to those fans. What is shown to you, you pick up on the most random details..the ones you should notice quickly with the bare minimum of paying-attention. Details that are shown to you and you notice them even if they're not as obvious. Theorising and connecting the dots. All of that should be common sense that it's NOT SPOILERS. I'm really shocked and annoyed that some really...really think that way!!!!
Watching the episodes as they're serialised and in their order IS NOT SPOILERS!!! You should watch the episodes in THEIR ORDER. Not what some fans think is the way!!! It's meant to be watched right after Season 1(OVA-1,2,3,4,5) and that's their order. Please. A spoiler would be like watching the Openings and Endings of seasons you've not caught up to yet or a glimpse of the seasons,or watching the trailer of S3(of both parts) while you've only watched S1 or S3 part2 while you've only watched S2. Etc like common sense basically. It's not a spoiler reading the facts that appear on the screen mid each episode.(unfortunately have seen a few people who think that way)..it's DEFINITELY not theorising and building up based on all the information you're shown/given. It's not noticing details.
If i make a guide to new AOT fans which in alot of times are new to anime too. It would be just what it is;
-S1-OVAs;(1,2,3,4,5)in order of course-S2-S3_part1-OVAs;(6,7,8)-S3_part2-S4_part1-S4_part2.
-thing to keep in mind;-Read the facts that appear in the mud of each episode they're important.
-watch the full episode til the end don't close the tap before the ending is done. In Animes like Detective Conan what's after the ending is part of the episode that is always there and is very important..they leave the most important scene to the end. With AOT it's different unlike DC it's in some episodes. I shouldn't tell you so you'll know on your own.
That's it. I know that that's what you guys do. But I'm kind of directing this to the fans who choose the order of episodes from the own perspective. It should be that you watch the episodes in their original order. Nothing that Isayama wants you to see is spoilers.

It doesn't contain any spoiler, and it does clarify why hange reacts the way she does later. It's ultimately skippable though, like the rest of the OVAs (albeit less than most others)

Idk if Jojo (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure) would be ya'lls cup of tea, but if you don't mind campy/avante guard, exaggerated and, well, bizarre visuals and storylines (that's also jam packed full of action and iconic scenes), I would like to see you both react to jojo some time as well. It does require you to suspend your disbelief so much, but it's anime so it should be easy
