Thank you for taking the time to do this tutorial.
Great how-to...thanks
I’ve used extractors on boats because it is much harder to drain the oil without making a mess in the bilge. But in cars I would rather drain and get as much of the sediment out as possible. Plus, from what I have seen, the new drain plug seems very easy. I haven’t changed the oil yet as I just bought my ST, but I guess I will find out.
This method gets even more stuff out than drain.
Great video
If you plan on keeping this vehicle a long time I would suggest changing the oil every 5K and throwing on a catch-can. My buddy is a Ford tech and says the reason 5K important is more for the turbochargers on this model. They have only a thin layer running through them and need fresh oil to maintain longevity. Says they change a lot of turbochargers for this reason, and they run $2500per for the full job.
I change mine at 3k and use full synthetic.
Hey Doug thanks for the video I know the drain plug on these guys can be a little bit finicky and just getting to it takes a little bit of time so this has to be the fastest way to change your oil with that being said have you ever pulled the plug after extracting with the machine to determine how well our oil pan drains to the dipstick
I know some cars were designed for this method of oil change and others can leave behind a bit of oil.
Just tried this today. Motive sent a a defective unit. Extractor model 1702 . Upon pumping noticed a positive psi increase not a negative vacuum on gauge. Filled a measuring cup with water to test “extraction” and checked gauge yep positive 10psi hmm put tube into cup released clip on tube the motive acted like filler blew the water out of cup. I asked mechanic friend to try it same result . Bad quality control on the new units sending it back.
same thing happen to me, sent it back.
Have a 2017 civic in canada, rear bleed bolts are especially rusted. What happens if you brake the bleed screw? Does all the brake fluid bleed out? Which wouod then allow air inot the system. Sort of afraid of messing with jt.
If it breaks off you just won't be able to bleed that section of wheel but eventually you'll have to get it out so you can get all the air out of the system but no it won't leak and run out
Hi, what size of the wheel and the tires.
Another informative DIY video,Sir. We just reached to you via Instagram for inquiring a product review. Hope what we offer can be a part of your fantastic content. Look forward to hearing from you soon 🙏🏻
Did you get dealer or third party banjo bolts?
Motiv hasnt even existed 20 years
can you do another raspberry update ?
When you installed new banjo bolts, how do you prevent the brake fluid from dripping the system?
You don't
No need to change the drain plug?
Oil filter link is broken?
This is fixed now. Thanks for letting me know!
Synthetic blend or full synthetic?
Motorcraft has a blend and a full synthetic version, the Kirkland (Costco) product used in this video is full synthetic. The Ford spec doesn’t call out use of a blend over a full synthetic or visa-versa. I believe the key thing is the API SN Plus and proper viscosity.

Whenever you take your oil filter off this oil run down and get on anything or is it like a canister type I don't know
