5:22 in my city a decent condition used AX100 price is about the same as new AX53 today in 2022. I am with you that an AX100 is a must to have. But, the AX53 is brutally awesome, too. For exposure control it was brilliantly designed, but, you have to understand, shift your mind and practice. On the AX53 setting gain limit is very (even more important than on AX100) important and using AE Shift with the ring practically gives you full control of exposure. The separate iris, shutter, gain buttons on AX100/700 are definitely more traditional, but with the gain limiter and AE Shift on the AX53 you can do any exposure on the AX53, too. Just practice, and practice.
8:42 That 29mm FOV wide end is definitely is not wide enough for a number of applications, so combined with the minuscule also 1" camera, the ZV1 with its 1 stop faster lens, you have a brutally great complementary set.
There are some drawbacks to this camcorder, but I still think it is the best prosumer 4K camcorder on the market. -Remember to pan slowly to avoid rolling shutter -The only wide angle adapter that I would personally recommend for 4k is RedEye - Add a very good general purpose microphone Sony ECM-XYST1M for a much improved sound -Add a UV glass cover filter to get the best 4K image before the RedEye -Always correct white balance before shooting -Under white balance click on option and move the dot to the A2 position since this camera tends to produce purple looking images. The sensor does not detect the purple color properly -Always use zebra at 70% to make sure your exposure is correct -Use spot focus to focus easier then when not using the manual focus -Give the camcorder ample time (several seconds) to focus before shooting -When manual focusing use the zoom focus button -Buy a larger eye piece protector to see the EVF properly
Igor Lalin I would agree with all those points although I’ve not found the “purple” issue - any slightly overexposed sky ends up a not so nice cyan. I’ve shot with this camcorder for quite a number of years and buyers have been happy with the files, in spite of them being too sharp and contrasty with no means of dealing them down - however I bought the AX700 last month and wish I’d upgraded when it came out - every feature is superior.
@@paultsworld its 2022 and i had a chance to buy an AX100 half the price as AX700. The only thing is the new brilliant phase detect video AF on the AX700 that i am missing on AX100, but the excellent no-joystick, brilliantly designed touch interface of AX100 is superior than the AX700.
I actually almost got this camera. But I was not able to get it at the price I wanted, which is why I got the AXP55/AX53. Its a great camera and IMHO is all any youtuber would ever need. I see so many channels wasting money on high end DSLRs or Red Cinema cameras. Its just not worth it.. If someone wants interchangable, the the BMCC is the other great option. But if you want a all in one solution and not worry about lenses.. This AX100 is the best camera out.. That said I am happy with the AXP55 right now. But when Sony does update the AX100 to 4K 60 FPS, then I will be shopping for an upgrade.
Joe Jackson need your opinion. i'm trying to decide if I should get this camera or the ax53? The ax53 is almost half this price and is better in low light 2.0 aperture. Also it zooms in more. I am going to use it to shoot wedding videos and other projects....Although the 100 has the best auto focus with the face tracking and also you have more manual control. After all this bing said which camera would you purchase if you were me?

Dean for what it’s worth I’d get the AX100 if built-in NDs are important to you and I’d get the AX53 if hand held stabilisation is what you want. The AX100 stabilisation is poor in my opinion and unbeatable on the AX53
There came a update so you can record 100mbit/s instead of 60. Why do you want bigger files? Both record 4k 25fps and xavc s so whats the diffrence. Why do you add something like that?
I did the upgrade. The quality of the image improves on HDR aspect of the quality, and in post production where it can be converted to different pro formats . The digital zoom probably would be the best measurement for quality with more colors. at 100 MBS the spectrum of colors is higher and in low light the image captured can be filtered with better results. This is from my experience.
@@TheBoomerConsumer do you think it makes a huge difference to use the z90 for presentations instead the ax100? Same question for using outside, shooting documentaries or conducting interviews? Thanks for your response!
Unless you need SDI output why not consider the Sony FDR-NX80? As to your question both would do well in that situation. However, the edge would go to the NX80 with its XLR capabilities for audio capture as well as all of the other improvements. My AX100 is only used inside and works well for the type of videos I make. I am looking to sell it and upgrade next year or so.
The built in ND filters especially having the auto capability is just awesome. The only thing that I don't like is the relatively slow starting aperture of 2.8! I think this will hamper a lot of lower light indoor shooting which will lead to noise. I'd gladly give up half the long-end zoom range for a starting aperture of say 1.8. Oh well, we can't have everything :) Thanks for the video.
I think these cameras were really made to take video and not like other expensive s.hit only made to take pictures were video is only and extra. I will buy one of these sony sooner or later i had a very good analogic one years ago and i still miss it . 4k is so heavy to edit and upload that i almost not using it , so at 30fps it's more than enough , but this camera is quite expensive if new but it looks really good. By the way; What about stabilisation? I saw a video of a Japanese using a small one like this and saying it was the best camera for filming and walking because no shaking. my worries go all in that way when i will buy a next camera . Cheers
GrandAdan you mentioned stabilization does this camera and the Ax 53 have the same stabilization? Also I'm trying to decide which camera I should get this one or the ax53?

A couple of points. Frist both camcorders are variable aperture Second, the AX100 as a 1-inch sensor vs the 1/2.3 on the AX53, so it still does fairly well in low light. The autofocus on both cameras is basically the same (contrast based). The manual controls + built-in ND filters + 1-inch sensor makes the AX100 a far better choice between the two.
It is 2022 and these two cameras AX53 and AX100 are still relevant they are still not cheap, more affordable but not cheap even used. ND is terribly important for small sensor cameras because of diffraction. Check out Alister Chapmann's videos about the topic. In AX53 you must use an ND filter on the lens. Never shoot wider than F4 on AX53 and never above F5.6 but definitely not F8 on AX100. AX100 has 2 stops better low light noise performance but since the AX53 has one stop faster lens the AX100/700 advantage is only one stop. The AX700 can shoot log and hlg but its only for wider dynamic range in daylight. So, overall the AX53 is brutally great competitor, just remember to use ND daylight.

What is the main difference to the Sony Z90? thank you
Improved sensor, new menu system, picture profiles,SDI out,Handle with XLR input, dual SD card Slots, HLG to name a few
