Except (Vriska) is a worthless failure who embraced pointless self-pitying nihilism and Vriska was entirely correct in calling her out for being an absolute mockery of everything good she once stood for.
The fact that Moonsetter is in the key of Db major means that it would be more inherently tragic than most other pieces, especially with the violin included. In Db major, there are 5 flats, Bb, Eb, Ab, Db, and Gb. The violin's open strings are E, A, D, and G, and because open strings bring an inherently bright and comforting sound, taking them away would lead to a more mellow sound. Even on other instruments, the key is still sort of somber and mellow, due to the 5 flats. For examples of Db Major, listen to Mahler's 9th Symphony (Adagio), or the more popular 2nd movement (Largo) of Dvořák's "New World" (9th) Symphony. The most fitting example I can think of, however, is Debussy's "Claire de Lune". This piece exudes a similar somber, mellow, and sad atmosphere as Moonsetter.
It's actually one of the saddest momments in Homestuck. All of those wonderful characters and momments destroyed by Vriska... it's just sad. Also, Davekat.
Whenever I hear this or some other extended version, I can't help but to have a tingling sensation just start rolling down my spine. My eyes start to have that sensation you get right before you cry, but I never actually do start crying. Its so odd for such a calming and lovely piece.
I am guessing what you actually miss is reading the comic back when the fandom, the art and the rp was in it's prime, and this comment being four years old now, it was still doing better back then lmao.
every time i hear this song it just reminds me how terrifying going through all this shit must be for all of them this is one of the very few happy moments they ever actually get and even when they do they do it knowing that after these few years they are going to go back to fighting for their lives, just imagine being in their place with your parents killed and your old life thrown completely out the window just to have to fight every waking moment of you're life in an uphill battle with aliens who apparently created your universe these kids are mad strong to have to go through all this and deal with it as maturely as they did and you can't help but admire that

The song and the picture make me really sad. I've never read Homestuck, I've listened to Moonsetter (I love it) over and over again. This video looks and sounds like a goodbye moment, but it feels terrible.
I once ruined this song for someone. They told me they liked Moonsetter and I casually said "Ah, the song of Vriska fixing everything" and they started screaming about how Vriska is "irredeemable". This is a person who believes Caliborn is redeemable (They weren't even on Act 6 yet) and honestly I wish they would stop assuming things about characters they know little about.

She didn't think murder was that terrible anyways, you know, because she has to feed people to her lusus. Killing her friends wasn't a good thing to do, but look at how she was raised. @better sam I mean Vriska's lusus would kill her if she didn't feed it trolls, Vriska was doing what she had to do to survive. It's not as catastrophic as the vast glub but Vriska would still die a horrible death if she failed to feed her lusus.
