As a Bangladeshi I feel so happy and proud that Bengalis are included in the game. Bangladesh is a land of rivers so being a naval civ makes sense. The word paik is actually used after the infantry unity pikeman. Instead of Pikeman it is called Paik. Elephants were used a lot back in the days. In Dhaka there is a,road named elephant road where elephants of the lords and kings used to ply on that on road. There is also a place named hatirpool in our capital Dhaka which means "pool for elephants". Elephants used to bathe there and bask in the sun.
Bengali guy here. I still wish Hindustanis having Battle Ele and Ele Archer. I find them very lacky now. I think you forget to see Hindustani tech tree
They're supposed to represent the Slave Dynasty (with the Ghulam UU) and other Timurids (like the Mughals later). Their campaign is of Babur, so pretty sure they're closer to Tatars than to the other India civs. Hence, no elephants (except the ram-replacement Armoured Elephant; I think they left that in to differentiate them slightly from Tatars or to mark them as a post-Tatars civ).
@@aninen46862 Would've made sense if they still had Tatar Steppe Lancer. I find their unit line quite lacking. Camel, Archer and some Infantry here and there. Not totally upgraded upgrade barracks. In 1v1 a player who got more access to unitline can easily corner them. Why they removed Parthian Tactics? Cav Archer goes much more limited.
Hera, I don't think you fully grasped the Caravanserai. A lot of course depends on how much it costs and how big the speed buff is, but if you can wall your entire trade route with them it could rival Spanish trade and make the trade even harder to raid.
They split original indian Civ into 4 based on the regions roughly as follows: Bengalis: East of India Gurjars: West of India Dravidian: South of India Hindustani: North and Central India
Something you didnt saw is that they put again the last defense for cavalry for the indians (hindustanis) wich means the imperial camel is as before and attacking faster
as an indian the rathas will be my fav unit as in the puranas (the ancient books written about the gods) there is written that the ancient gods used to ride these chariots to fight their battles so im excited for the new civ
The gujjars can be very effective against cavalry civs. I wish there was a healing building for military and civilian units like the anti-thesis of a castle. But we have the trade cart healing thing.
So about Hera's question regarding the representation of culture - I'm Indian, and I love these new civs in terms of the appropriate representation of Indian history. India in those ages was extremely diverse when it came to civilizations, mainly because of how diverse the geography of these regions was. There's deserts and farmlands in the western parts, snow mountains in the north, forests and hills in the east, and fertile lands and beaches in the south. These new civilizations are basically from each one of these directions, so it's really cool that they've managed to make these unique civs in game!
20 years later and the game is still thriving, this dev team knows what they are doing. Since the Lords of the West DLC, each new civ has expanded the boundry of the game in some fashion. Sicilians- non-villager building (serjeant), new navel dynamics with transport ships doubling as outposts Burgundians- unit transformation (revolution), charge attack mechanic Bohemians- (Wagon) intercepting projectiles, multiple positioning-based attacks Poles- (Obuch) semi-permanent stat modification, resource gift upon building (farms) Bengali-(chariot) melee/range stances, in-game unit pop space manipulation Dravidians- navel meta changed with powerful warship (therisaldai) Gurjara- garrisoning herdables (non-pop units), (shrivamsha) dodge mechanic, dark/feudal camels Hindustani- (caravanserai) aura healing+speed
Just checked some info. Gurjara Camels will be insane. You can train them from feudal age, they train 25% faster as a team bonus. they have 50% more bonus damage as a civ bonus... One unique tech makes all military units cost less 25% food (including camels) and another unique tech gives their camels and elephant archers +4 melee armour. The only downside of their camels is not getting blast furnace. But come on. That's 5 different bonus for the camels. And 3 of them start in feudal.
Bengalis is pronounced Ben-gaw-lis or Bahng-gah-lis (The latter is mainly used by native speakers but both pronunciations are correct). Ratha's pronunciation will be difficult to explain as the 'tha' involves a sound only used in the subcontinent but the Ra is pronounced 'Rah' (Though if you've ever heard someone say 'paratha' - like the bread - before, that's similar to what you're going for). Personally I'm happy with how the Bengalis are represented in game, though an emphasis on fishing would've been nice. They've got that slow moving powerhouse vibe like Teutons, but with elephants rather than infantry and Paladins. Dravidians and Gurjaras seem pretty interesting too, but it's weird that Gurjaras don't get Battle Eles. btw for the Urumi Swordsman I think by charging attack the devs mean that their attack is delayed but does more damage (Like how you hold a button to charge an attack) rather than the Coustillier's charge attack. You didn't cover it in your video but what do you think of the Hindustani tech tree? (Yes there's changes) I won't spoil anything but I do think the Caravanserai went to the wrong civ.
@@varunmanjunath9123 aw thanks. Yeah Hera seemed to struggle with it and as a native Bengali speaker who enjoys watching his content I wanted to help him out.

there's a reason why Bengalis practically have no "useful" cavalry. Historically, the Bengal region has never been built on the might of a horse. It's mostly infantry and elephants here and there. Even in today's Bangladesh, there aren't actual strong breeds of horses, mostly ponies. So it's not that devs are overestimating elephants, it's that horses were rarely part of the bulk of Bengali military.
Horses were there, but not effective until Turks came. Bakhtiyar Khalji attacked with a small but very fast team of horsemen that Laxmansena couldn’t resist and eventually took refuge. It takes significant time to have the elephants ready for war !

It's worth noting that the Urumi is more a showpiece weapon that's suited more for martial arts expertise than it is a practical weapon of war.
