I'm from Newfoundland, I saw them their first time here, instantly fell in love, and everytime since, a total of 5 times.
I was at the show when the stage riser fell, it was some my personal buds that held up the stage.
Great video but Kezia is still my favorite album ever, not close.

I don't know why, but whenever I am talking to any metalhead and start talking about Protest the hero everyone is looking at me with weird looks on their faces and are like 'there is band called Protest the hero? In what garage did you find these guys!?" And everytime I decide to play their song to prove them wrong they're all falling in love with the band. Don't understand why are they so underrated they're freaking amazing!

I searched this video out to get a sense of where to start with this band. I’m not into metalcore so much, and not really even very familiar with many newer bands, but I heard some snippets of PTH songs and it piqued my curiosity. This was really helpful!

I bought the Kezia album back in the yr it came out.. I saw the Wizard of Oz blue monkeys jammin out in that video and was hooked… the album as a whole is SOLID… there’s enough chunky riffs mixed in to make me not get bored with these guys.. their progression has had my applause the whole way!

  • @Absynthe23

Many have Kezia as PTH's best album, but it's always Volition for me, and I am happy to see that you felt the same.

I've recently done a PTH discog run cause of this video cause before I had really only heard Bloodmeat and jesus christ this is probably one of my favorite bands ever. Volition is an 11/10, Without Prejudice to Mist is their best string of songs ever.

  • @jeroendekoster243
    @jeroendekoster243 4 роки тому +3

I totally understand and respect your decisions. If I would make a tier, I think I would end up kinda the same as you. Except I would have placed Fortress a bit higher, but that’s because of the album itself and its production, but more because it brings back the best memories while listening to it back in the days.
It’s very hard to place their albums in any kind of order. Each album has its own aspects which you can like or not and that’s completely depending on your own taste and/or mood that you’re in that moment.
Either way, if these guys will fart into a mic and make an album out of that; it would probably still sounds technical and completely insane. And I would definitely buy it.

@@MetalTrenches lol I agree. I kind of feel like hype and airplay is what leads to the glorifying of fortress. Or cause it seems to be their more heavier album? And Kezia held number one for so long strictly for the same reasons you mentioned, it was just my introduction to them and seems to have much more wild and weird song progressions that I think people see as god like. Which they are, they are my gods and curse those who don't believe.

@@johnhogan8327 I’m so endlessly shocked by people who want or expect everyone to have the exact same opinion when the entire point of this kind of music is to NOT have a status quo… especially when we are both here because we clearly like the same band. This reads as “Wow that’s stupid and you’re wrong for thinking that.” Maybe I’m just reading it differently than you intended. I’m tired and I get enough people genuinely thinking like this that it can be hard to tell from text alone.

@@MetalTrenches good point. You actually articulated your opinions well in the video. The reason I love kezia and fortress is the lyricism that disappears with Arif leaving the band. It’s just wild to me that other fans feel like they surpassed that pinnacle they reached with the first two albums and the original lineup. I also don’t really care about the virtuosic guitar playing as much as a lot of pth fans. Oh well! I’m glad you enjoy it, cause I was pretty bummed about not enjoying their later stuff

I give Kezia S-Tier because they made such an amazing album at a young age and it’s what grew them into what they are now. Songs like Blindsfold Aside, Turn Soonest to the Sea, and The Divine Suicide of K got me attached.
I would have to say this would be my list, but do know that this is my favorite band of all time. I have no hate for any songs they are ALL amazing, but this order is what album has more of my favorite songs within them and which I have connected more with.
I also agree with your opinion about Palimpsest that over time the album gets better and better.
(It sucks to put Scurrilous at number 5 when one of my top 4 songs is in it… (C’est La Vie)
    1.) Kezia
    2.) Volition
    3.) Fortress
    4.) Palimpsest
    5.) Scurrilous
    6.) Pacific Myth

Scurrilous at the bottom had me (Hair-)Triggered.
Back when these guys only had two studio albums (Kezia and Fortress) me and my buddy always had heated debates which was better and I was on the Kezia side originally but once I finally got into Fortress I wondered how I, much like you, ever resisted it in the first place.

I hear a lot of love for Mist, so I might be one of the few that doesn't love that song. I do love volition, my favorites are Skies and Plato's Tripartite.
I enjoy the string and acoustic section and the meat of the song too, but I can't get into the "Yes I be a Newfoundlander" part. I dont think it's a bad song but it's definetly not among my favorites, so I was surprised when I went into the internet and saw so many people loving.

I think without nostalgia, like if I was going to show a new listener this band, Kezia falls down quite a bit, and scurrilous is actually a pretty smooth listen.
S: Volition, A: Fortress, Palimp, B: Scurr, C: Kezia, and Myth is last. Myth really feels so rough compared to the rest, it feels like they all write their parts separately and then just jammed it all together in a studio with minimum productional direction.

Here's a hint: Listen to Japanese metal/hardcore punk bands, you'll hear similar techniques in how they sing. It's supposed to be a bit silly. But also don't shy away from listening to their instrumentals, you'll hear a lot of extra details you wouldn't notice with the vocals (especially palimpsest).
