    Great info and thanks. I was using the Apple watch for spinning and suspected the latency was missing some peak heart rates. I switched to the chest strap and it updates nearly instantly.

    This review is pretty much spot on, I been using the polar H10 for everything from swimming to strength and intervals and it's just impossible to beat. I use the chest strap paired with my Fenix 5X and it turns way better HR data than the built in optical HR sensor

    Nice review !!! I'm almost getting a OH1 because of your tests.
    The only missing points are the accuracy test during swimming and perhaps the standalone use of the OH1 without using a watch or phone.

    • @TechyAgent
      @TechyAgent  6 років тому +1

      Yeah, I did not get a chance to use it swimming, it’s freezing temperatures where I’m at right now and so I will have to wait until I can get access to an indoor pool.

    • @lkostia
      @lkostia 6 років тому +1

      for swimming only - Polar H10. You can use Polar OH1 in the water, but it’s not optimized for tracking heart rate in the pool and you cannot use it as a sensor, only to store a swim session into the internal memory. This is because it doesn’t have the 5kHz transmission needed for sensor mode.

    • @knuton79
      @knuton79 6 років тому +2

      I stored poolswimdata today on OH1. And it is very easy to use as standalone. I weared it on near shoulder and little bit tighter than any other sport.(Some people have used OH1 under swimming hat.) And OH1 was better than clock or chest trap for me, because it stayted on, not move at all. And I felt heartrate was very close to my real heartrate (only feeling, I used only that OH1 alone). My opinion is, If optical sensor is accuracy enought for other sports, OH1 will be good enought for swimming aswell. For me it is. If not, H10 has memory aswell, but I never again want use chest traps after using OH1 few weeks. It is so much easier to use. I had Polar M200, and it is not accuracy as OH1 for swimming. Only complain so far is that OH1 led blinks annoyigly brightly. If you want comfortable and easy sensor to use buy OH1, If you want exactly true data you should buy H10.

    I can’t do the chest strap. Depending on what I’m doing, it either gets tucked up under my sports bra and then stops tracking. If it’s not doing that, it tends to slide down. If this didn’t happen during kg work outs, I would love to use a chest strap. So far my schoshe is working great!!!

      Lie-Fa Shen-Dale I have used both Wahoo and Polar. Wahoo has never let me down so far. I am a woman, and it hasn't slipped. The only problem I encountered was the battery compartment on the H7. Impossible! Wahoo is easy. But as soon as you rest, it turns off - all chest straps.
      I use the Scosche Rhthm+ and will get the Scosche24 in April. You turn it on, and you turn it off. For both old and upcoming models.

    Thanks Eric! I just wanted to clarify a statement. You said that the the H10 was much more accurate. To put more detail to it, is it accurate to say, "The H10 is more accurate instantaneously, but all three show similar accuracy if "lag-time" is not an issue? In other words, if you are running at a constant speed/intensity, then they will read identically (to similar accuracy) once you have a steady/constant heart rate for over 20 seconds? Thanks again, it is great to have this information!

    Very good points! I have found the polar oh1 to be awesome! I had issues with the scosche rhythm plus and went through 2 of them in 2 months. I have had the polar oh1 for over 2 months, it is perfect for me. Chest straps are too uncomfortable for me.

    • @TechyAgent

    I have used the H10 since the beginning of the year and its readings look right (admittedly from previous Polar chestbands) and much better than wrist based HR monitors including from Polar (A360) and FITBIT. I am fine with the chestband in the gym. How about doing a comparison of a chestband (say the H10) against a full ECG monitor just to see whether chestbands really are that accurate?

    • @TechyAgent
      @TechyAgent  6 років тому +2

      +knuton79 technically speaking it’s more accurate the further up your arm you go. So if you wear it near your shoulder, most people are reporting that they get better results that way, but I prefer to wear it on my forearm because it’s more comfortable

    Hey, I have a question: you said there is a 10 sec delay on the OH1, my question is this, does this mean that the OH1 is always 10 sec behind the H10, or that once you start a "hit interval" it takes the OH1 10 seconds to notice, and after that they are more or less synced?
    I am asking because if, for example, I do a sprint, and then I want to rest until my HR is 130 , and then start another sprint, I don't want to experience 10 second delay, but I don't really care if It takes the OH1 10 seconds to get the right HR in strength exercises, as long as it is accurate after that.
    thanks!

    • @TechyAgent
      @TechyAgent  6 років тому

      They offer the same reliability and accuracy, the difference is in auxiliary features: the Polar H10 and OH1 can store data (without being paired to any device) and that data can be synced at a later point. That’s probably not a feature many would use, but it’s there

    Hi! Great channel you have here! I am in the process of losing a bunch of weight and getting back into shape. I've run into some issues, and my doctor wants me to keep my heart rate below the 85% for now. I have a Fitbit Charge HR, but I've noticed that it is 8-10 bpm lower than the ear clip monitor that came with my rower. I'm looking for something more accurate that has an alarm that will warn me when I reach a certain bpm. I've never used a chest strap and was hoping that an armband would do the job. I like the idea of the OH1, but I don't know what watch would be best to pair it with. Do you have any suggestions?

      Thanks! Riz is great! I’m a big fan of his too! While I’ve had steady growth, it hasn’t been as explosive as other channels but I’m still very happy with my success. Ive tried reaching out to a few other channels, and a lot of them seem to want to do their own thing rather than collaborate, BUT I do have some collaboration talks in the works.

    Hi Eric, is there a need to buy OH1 if I have a apple watch 3?

    • @TechyAgent
      @TechyAgent  6 років тому

      It depends: if you do only jogging or cycling or some other form of steady state cardio then no. But if you do gym based exercise (lifting, strength training, CrossFit, Boot Camp, high intensity interval training, etc) then it definitely helps.

    Great vid! How do the OH1, H10 and the Scosche compare with the Apple Watch HR sensor readings? Are they totally off? I’m considering getting a HRM, but feel like I’m spinning my wheels getting a separate HRM device when I already have the Apple Watch. But of concerned about the accuracy of the data. Thanks!

    Does the polar h10 pair with the Fenix 5 and what advantages over the wrist HR of the watch itself?

    • @TechyAgent

      Yes, it does. The advantage is increased accuracy.

      Techy Agent another quick question, my H10 arrived today and I paired it with my Fenix 5. I also turned off my watch wrist heart rate. Is that all to complete the set-up? I don't have to use Polar proprietary apps like the Beat and the Flow right?

    Hey Eric. Nice video. How securely does the OH1 stay on the arm? The Scosche, as you know, has the Velcro straps. My straps do pop out quite often.

    • @TechyAgent
      @TechyAgent  6 років тому +1

      The Polar is a little harder to put on, but it’s also a lot more secure than the Scosche.

    Do you think that the OH1 would work well with P90X? My Vivoactive 3 is way off, and I'm trying to decide arm or chest to get a good idea of my hr during the workout. Thanks!

    • @TechyAgent
      @TechyAgent  6 років тому

      If you can tolerate a chest strap, you will get superior results. But if a chest strap is out of the question, then the OH1 will do just fine. Overall it will get great results, and give you a very good estimate of your heart rate in real time. The biggest difference between the OH1 and a chest strap is latency: with a chest strap it will be able to detect a spiking heart rate instantly, while it might take the OH1 5-15 seconds to catch up.

    • @TechyAgent

    hey Eric, thinking about getting the H10 to upgrade from the simple Garmin HR monitor strap, is it compatible with the Vivoactive 3? how simple is it to pair it with the VIvoactive 3 and can the Connect IQ app read the data like the regular Garmin strap? the Garmin strap has been getting a bit uncomfortable and gets loose during interval training, therefore producing inaccurate data/results

    • @TechyAgent
      @TechyAgent  6 років тому

      Yes, it will be compatible! The connect IQ app will be able to read the data and it is very simple to pair.

    • @IonicCascade
      @IonicCascade 6 років тому

      thanks Eric, just got it Mon, had a couple interval WODs with it, and it seems much more stable than the Garmin HRM strap, providing an oscillating heart rate as opposed to huge swings between peaks and troughs ... it's also much more comfortable, snug and doesn't slip as much thanks to those grip grids

    • @IonicCascade
      @IonicCascade 6 років тому

      love the Polar HRM strap so much I wanted to do an experiment with a fellow gym rat, he's a tad shorter than me, heavier but slightly more muscular, and a bit older, and he wears the Garmin Fenix 5, where I have the VA3 ... I checked out his Calorie counts from a couple of interval WODs and he was consistently reading about half of what I got, so I recommended the Polar H10 strap to him, we tested it yesterday and he still fell about 100 calories shorter from mine ... so we're not entirely sure what's going on, must be a number of factors: height, weight, age, or perhaps I'm pushing myself harder, he's also not used to doing interval training 5 times a week so that might come into play

    I contacted you on facebook some time ago...for gym rep tracking (and hr and everything about it) i have the good old Atlas Wristband 2...i don't know if i need to update to an all in one tracker (garmin vivoactive 3 or fitbit ionic) or can i stay with atlas in the gym and for everyday tracking get a cheaper wearable like the Polar A370 or Fitbit Charge 2 or a "little" Garmin? What's your advice?

    • @TechyAgent
      @TechyAgent  6 років тому

      I would recommend staying with the Atlas and then doing like you suggested, getting a cheaper wearable for tracking every day activity, something from Polar, Garmin, or Fitbit

    • @StefanoRifici
      @StefanoRifici 6 років тому

      Really thank you mate...appreciate every answer from you in the comments...like everyday wearable what's your take? From your comments i saw that you like a lot the Polar A370, but is a shame that for fitness test for example you need an external heart rate strap...what's the best in terms of features? +Techy Agent

      Unfortunately these products are not designed to last more than two or three years, so basically you’ll have to do what I have to do: Cough up money to replace them every couple of years
