Hi all - thanks for watching! Here's the full review: dcra.in/PolarOH1Plus and also, here's another post on more backstory of the whole ANT+ Polar thing: dcra.in/PolarAddsANT
dunno if you guys cares but if you guys are stoned like me atm then you can stream pretty much all the new movies on instaflixxer. Have been binge watching with my gf during the lockdown xD
I use the POLAR OH1 24 * 7 now, and I love it for it s accuracy. A Muse Meditation Headband has 4 sensors, the POLAR OH1 has 6 sensors :-). Unfortunately, I regularly have the problem described in the video that the POLAR OH1 flips around and looses data. I will now use a textile plaster to fix it. I miss a more professional solution for the POLAR OH1.
I saw in the OH1 manual that a green flashing light only means that the heart rate signal is detected by the OH1. I had problems to pair the OH1 to two Forerunner 235 watches. Then I saw that I have a version of the OH1 with no ANT+ logo. I made a firmware update. Now I can pair the OH1 to a Forerunner 235. In this state, the OH1 has a short green flashing light which flashes every three seconds. I saw in the video that Ray contacted POLAR regarding this subject. Now, the problem Ray described is gone, and the insecurity about whether the OH1 is running or not running is gone.
I recently bought an OH1, and was positively suprised, that there is a green flashing light at the OH1 when the OH1 is aquiring data. This is in contrast to what is sayd in DC Rainmakers video, that there is no light when the OH1 is aquiring data. I suppose POLAR updated this feature since Ray reviewded the device.
Good recommendation for a sensor, no more problems with moisture, cold, dryness etc. Can you run the OH1+ in Internal Logging mode AND connected via Bluetooth Smart CONCURRENTLY..? This way you always have a backup dataset of HR in case any connection issues would occur. And also you get data into Polar Flow without using a Polar watch..
I really like the idea of this optical HR being so small. But will it work if you wear it on the wrist instead of arm? I’m looking to replace my HR chest strap monitor just by using one on the wrist while being broadcast on my garmin during my rides. If you have any wrist HR recommendation.. just simple no fancy one just to detect my HR while riding my bike. Lmk! Thanks!
Hi, first of all, i really like your reviews. People sometimes ask me some questions about what watch to buy. I always refer to your very honest and deep reviews. I train a lot with the OH1, in standalone modus, and really like it. For climbing, crossfit,.... It's precise and i don t have to worry that my Vantage is damaged by an impact of a kettlebell or when i slam onto the climbing wall. But recently i bought the H10 also. So compared them for the same training session. The HR curve and registration was almost identical, as also in your charts. However there was a big (huge) difference in calorie count. H10 - 531kcal vs OH1 - 678kcal. Any idea why? Is the kcal count calculation done onboard device?
I did the Hawaii Ironman in 2004 with the polar watch and chest strap. I hit lap at each transition. I got great data. What has Polar done since then to make a better product?
Hey, It would be great if you would do a review, of what is the best HR tracker to wear during Brazilian Jiujitsu workout. This is a peace of information many people are asking in forums over reddit, however there is no definite answer to that
I know this is an old comment, but there are different kind of sports. I play football (soccer...) and the chest sensor is not really safe/comfortable to use since sometimes I control the ball with my chest.
The company that makes the peel and stick HRM will dominate. This was a damn near reality on kickstarter a few years ago so it exists. That company refunded all backers because a medical company bought them out. Now the stick on hrm are used in hospitals. The hrm only needed changing every 7 days, but could be reapplied daily also dozens of times before the adhesive needed to be changed. I have no idea why garmin hasn’t jumped on this.
Yeah, that I think still stands as one of the most amazing things I saw at CES. Of course, I only got a run or so with it - so we don't really know how it would have stood up super long term, but dang...for where they were, that was impressive.
Unfortunately not. The blame is mostly on Polar, but perhaps a tiny bit on Garmin. To do offload to Garmin devices, Polar would need to implement ANTfs transfers from the strap. At present, they don't do that. Even if they did, while Garmin technically supports that - Scosche has been saying they've been trying to get that feature pushed out the door for over a year. It's unclear if that's because Scosche is falling behind on that, or if there's some nuance that's breaking on the Garmin side.
what about doing a lot of arm movement like battling ropes or boxing while wearing the arm strap? will it not be accrate then? also what about as soon as I rest am I seeing my real HR so I know exactly when to start again?
The velcro strap on my Rhythm + must be getting old as it slips with activity or muscle flex. How would you compare the strap on this new Polar OH1? Is it adjustable? (I did get the part about it turning over easily and that could be a bummer when getting dressed for a workout) How would this work under a headband when running or paddling? Lastly, and just for clarity, this new OH1 can broadcast to a Garmin Device at the SAME time be broadcasting to my Android phone using bluetooth? (my Rhythm+ does that and works fine in that regard). Thanks for all the great info you provide!
Steven Love the Polar strap is elastic. While can turnover I have found it holds the sensor firmly in place. The strap is adjustable. Not used the headband idea but should work. Works well swimming on goggles. Also very responsive an close to chest strap during cycling. Yes it does simultaneously transmit Ant+ and Bluetooth. Note it can simultaneously record too. Hope that helps. The one missing feature for me is doing Garmins offline swim data connection with Garmins watches.
Cheers Ray, Hopefully it will be soon. I only bought the OH1 on the back of this video 😂 for the reason of the Ant + update. I got the original version for a really good price. Initial testing on Bluetooth confirms that it is deffo more consistent/ accurate than my current dual HR chest strap. 👍
Hej there recently bought the oh1 using it with my phone (with audiofeedback for heart rate zone and speed.) Since I would like to run without my phone would like to use just the oh 1 with a fitnesstracker that has gps. First thought about the Polar m430, but its to huge, so thats why a smaller fitnesstracker. Do you guys use know if I can stream/broadcast heartrate of Oh1 to any tracker? Would like to use it with Huawei Band 3/4 Pro. That´s possible? Or maybe another tracker is possible to show the heartrate live /with gps data/pace/distance? Otherwise I saw somebody ussing scosche rythm 24 with a polar a370 tracker, no gps but scosche measures distance and pace, these seems like a good solution.
A streaming solution which is near to a breakthough is Dave Lustys connect iq watch IOT. It requires a luxury Fenix 5, an Microsoft Azure Cloud and Microsoft Power BI. I needs some developement, but looks promising: github.com/PeterGamma/Live-stream-of-sensor-data-from-Garmin-watches
Hello, Iam intrested on buying Polar OH1, but can I see all information when its connected with garmin fenix 5plus like i would with garmin hrm-tri? Does it compatible with that watch and transfers all info polar ho1 colects? Thank you for answer
Is the OH1 supposed to be charged when it arrives? It will not light up and when I plug it in I see no lights. Please help me turn it on or find out if its a dud.
@@bmp713 Good deal, sounds like just some sort of compatibility issue with that other port. No biggie. As for displaying the HR on Windows 10, you'd need some app to display it. For example, in cycling you could use the Zwift app (paid for cyclists, but they have a runners version which is free). There's tons more phone apps to display HR though, even the Wahoo Fitness app is totally free and easy to use (iPhone and Android).
I’m looking for a smart watch need some help here. Swim, run, sup, walk, golfing, mountain biking, kayaking, fishing, like listening to music, scuba diving, jog, hike, hunting, fly. I live in Fl so lots to do here. What smart watch would u have me get
How would you do this, specifically when swimming? I got a Garmin forerunner and got the oh1 plus. Connected both via ant+. Would I push the button on the oh1 twice to record data, and stop at the end of the workout, then sync? Or just push once to broadcast? Tried both and somehow the watch cannot find the data. I really want both the data from the watch (distance, strokes etc) plus the external hr data from the oh1. Is that even possible?
Thanks! At rest, I have trouble to pair with elite hrv app. Also the Scosche rhythm 24 can’t. I wish you do a video on arm hrm for the hrv, Thanks and appreciate for your videos !
Great video ! One question if someone know if Polar Beat (android) support more than one sensor ? To allow my new OH1 I had to remove my H10 otherwise no syncro. Thanks for your help.

That OH1 seems to be an amazing product. The conventional Polar HR strap has destroyed the skin on my chest and I don't want to wear it anymore.

Do you believe Polar is coming back since it’s staled for couple of years with there watch development
I think there’s speakers of that.

Could a person wear the oh1+ 24/7 to record heart rate? How long is memory capability?
Thanks for the thorough video😊
Hello Dc. Thanks for the video. does it means that every wearable can be turned out into bluetooth + ant+ via firmware update ??
Many actually can. But whether or not there an appetite for it by companies is trizky
Will it connect to garmin
With ant+ of course it will.
Great review. Which one should I buy for triathlon? Polar OH Or Polar H10?
Does the polar oh1 sensor track heart rate in real time and show the calories burned and other data live or only after we work out and sync it ?
Would like a better HR don’t like chest strap when running. I love the fenix
Yup, this is definitely a good option, and will connect to your Fenix (of any sort) just fine now.
Good review. Any chance of voicing your thoughts on the Whoop band?
I like your shirt!
How long doest it take to charge the pod and how will I know when it is charged? Does it matter which arm you put in on? Good video. Thanks.
While it's charging, the pod will blink orange. After fully charged, this light will turn to green. It doesn't matter which arm you put it.
I did the Hawaii Ironman in 2004 with the polar watch and chest strap. I hit lap at each transition. I got great data. What has Polar done since then to make a better product?
If doing a triathlon would you have to take the clip off your goggles and then put it on the arm band during T1?
Great review...as always.

it’s a bummer that the old H10 ant connectivity is not by firmware update. Or did I mishear that ?
Both will be getting firmware updates - all H10 and all OH1.
@@Dcrainmaker Fantastic!! Polar might soon compete on the same platform as Garmin and other competitors w.r.t connectivity. Good for them.
How long will the battery last please?
It states 12 hrs, though I usually recharge it about once a week so I don't forget. There's no impact to battery life from the dual ANT+/BLE bit.
I don't get it. Just got one, but I can't seem to use it in sports tracker which I'd be most accustomed to use.
So... what's the point of using PPG over an EKG strap? I get it in the watch, but not so much on a stand alone strap.
Some folks don't like the feel of a chest strap, especially women.
Makes a ton of sense! I also had one that kept slipping off in my race today so I'm starting to get it.

does app work with amazon tablet fire / android tablet?
Is it possible to pause a training unit with the Button and then go on after a break?
No, I think it's possible.
What app is that you used on your iPad to show oh1 HR?
what's the app do you use on your iPad and that app record group HR monitoring on real time?
Hey Ray
How did you get the update for the original OH1. Polar are saying it’s not available until late April for the original ones
Hi Dave - Polar got my account enrolled in the beta program so I could test things out. Hopefully we'll see them push things out sooner though!

Yes.
But to be fair, measuring on upper arm is a million times easier.

Hello,
Iam intrested on buying Polar OH1, but can I see all information when its connected with garmin fenix 5plus like i would with garmin hrm-tri? Does it compatible with that watch and transfers all info polar ho1 colects?
Thank you for answer
No, it won’t transfer info after the fact to a Garmin watch like the HRM-TRI. Polar could technically add it though.
Is OHR on OH1/OH1+ same as one on Vantage series? Vantage ones have problems.
No, it's actually earlier than the Vantage (and I think better).
Is the OH1 supposed to be charged when it arrives? It will not light up and when I plug it in I see no lights.

Generally it’s charged, but plugging it in should near immediately light it up (assuming the USB stick and pod inside it are oriented correctly).

It seems that the oh1 does not pair with other iOS hrv apps beside polar flow app. Is this right?
Maybe. The thing is that OHR can’t really do HRV during a workout. At rest, no problem. But less so during intense activity.
