As DVC members since 2002, we purchased our contract to keep our resort stays within reason while still staying at deluxe resorts. Prior to buying into DVC we stayed exclusively at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort. Between 1991 and 2001 we stayed there 9 times. Our last stay there was in 2002 when we purchased DVC. As a buyer’s bonus we got three nights at any resort on property.
The Yacht Club was like our “home away from home”, we knew many of the cast members (they were all Disney employees back then) and were even friends with a few (would see them socially outside of the resorts and parks). After the big outsourcing happened, some even lost their positions at Disney. Eventually, those cast members retired. We still have a soft spot for the Yacht Club though. It could be on the list for a return visit now that they are part of the DVC family.
The cabins, that’s not on our radar. We bought in for comfort and convenience, not seeing that in this offering. Along with the restrictions, probably going to pass on buying in. The biggest draw of staying at a DVC resort isn’t even available, in room laundry.
At some point, a return to Florida is in the cards for us. Then the DVC interest will be used for visitors or weekend getaways. There’s always a chance that we don’t move close enough to make use of DVC in this manner, either way we have this contract until 2042. No plans to add on yet and we’re staying away from the newer restricted resorts.
This 2025 perk for the water parks, probably won’t be as popular as people are thinking. Back when we bought length of stay passes, the water parks were always included in the park hopping option. Since 1991, never been to a Disney water park (other than passing through to get to Disney Springs). “Soggy in the lobby” is probably the biggest reason why. There were many times that we had to stand on buses because of wet seats. We are not the type of people that inconvenience others or make more work for someone…just because. Quite often, even back then, the water parks would not be too crowded.
Too many times we’ve seen trays left at tables, towels left strewn about poolside, or dirty diapers left atop trash bins in resort lobbies. Some people staying at Disney just don’t appreciate where they are or are expecting more out of cast members than they should. If you go to a restaurant and receive a tray, 99% of the time there is going to be a tray return. If you’re going for a sit down meal, it’s different. Don’t expect that level of service at counter service restaurants. The pool side attendants are there to refill the towels and maintain the pools, they are not hand servants to be at your beck and call. As far as lobby attendants, they are not there to deal with dirty diapers. The bins in the restrooms should be used for this purpose.
As repeat guests of the Walt Disney Resort, we would like for this to remain “a place for all”. We would also like to be around people that truly appreciate the property for what it is. It seems to me, that in recent years, the property has become more of a luxury for most. Increasingly getting priced out of a dream to share experiences with their families. If Disney (and others) wants to be truly successful, they need to go back to what worked. I know I’ve mentioned this several times in the past, but bottom line…outsourcing does not work at Disney. I mean that both figuratively and literally. The amount of lost revenue due to down time at the parks is growing. If the “experts” really knew what they were doing, there wouldn’t be so much downtime on newer attractions. There would be less need for Lightning Lanes as the attractions would be running smoothly and without incident. And, since we’re on the subject, why charge for something that was more efficient when it was free? It’s just a slightly shorter wait at most attractions, not really a benefit as much as charging people to stand in more lines. I know most people aren’t looking at it this way, but it is exactly what has happened. Disney (and others) are now not only charging you to enter the parks, but charging a premium for crowded attractions. Never was that way before, really shouldn’t be that way now.

Jeff is right. We need major park expansion or a 5th park!!! Down the road is doing it while Disney keeps re doing what we already have. Make it bigger, make it better, give us more rides in AK and HS. We are too many people trying to ride 8 or 9 rides and we can’t do it all. We don’t need more resorts because we are already stuffing too many people into not enough parks! Hahaha Derek’s cabin rant was great 😂 We visited Fort Wilderness to eat dinner and I swear we waited so long for a bus just to get out of there. I would never visit again without a car. It was nice, but not my style. Give me a resort on the monorail or the Skyliner. Even AK isn’t as difficult to get in and out of as the cabins will be. Y’all are great to watch and we love these episodes! We would love to see an episode on “getting to know” you, where you came from, what kind of jobs do you do or have you done, where are you from, stuff like that 😊

We have stayed in the treehouses years ago. We loved it! It was like being in a house. It was 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a washer and dryer. We also had a full kitchen. We would take a boat to Disney Springs. It was nice because the kids didn’t have to be super quiet for neighbors. We stayed in December of 2023 at Saratoga Springs in a 3 bedroom. It was great as well. We had about a 5 minute walk to Disney Springs for dinner and shopping. Saratoga is a very beautiful and underrated resort!

I agree. New parks. You are also right about hanging at dvc resorts. My resort is Saratoga and I love going to the three main pools when I stay there. We do need a fifth gate. I miss the old Hollywood studios, Osborn lights, great movie ride, backstage tour. When that tour ended, always with a movie theme that was in the movies. Dick Tracy, Roger Rabbit, Ninja Turtles. I know roller coasters are in but hello, I think you guys are great. How about really listening to the people, instead of thinking what we want.

We always would try to hit typhoon lagoon on our arrival day. We would get a hopper + so we had the “extra days” It was perfect for the kids to burn off some of their pent up excitement! Never soggy in the lobby- we’d get the text, and head straight to the room.
BUT nowadays, older kids and we go to the water park down the road.

We stayed at the cabins over a decade for a last minute trip because DVC rooms were filled. While Ft. Wilderness is a fun spot and we enjoyed it, we felt the cabin was small and cramped in the bedroom for sleeping for a family of 4. Plus not having a w/d had us never going back. It’s a shame because the big deck and outside area was so fun. Not sure why they did not put a w/d in new cabins and make a bigger bedroom. Living room/kitchen was fine.

We love the cabins for the space and privacy. To make them DVC they should have upgraded them with at least an all in one washer dryer combo. And a golf cart should be included. Discounts on activities would be nice too.

You guys are hilarious! I so enjoyed this show. I don't see logistically how many people can take advantage of this water park offer. By the time your flight lands, you collect your luggage, you get transportation to your resort, you leave your luggage with bell services reserving your swim clothes and a change of clothes, then you take the busses to the busses to the water park or pay for a lyft, you're arriving with hardly any time to play. As a local though with a staycation, get dressed for the water park at home, grab your bag and drive to the water park at opening, and you've got nearly all day. And as far as the cabins at Ft Wilderness goes, I think they'll need to throw in a golf cart rental with each stay. It's really necessary at the fort. It has been for my family.

The cabins might be good for a triple split stay trip with a few non-park days at the cabins in the middle, but other than that I have no desire to stay - there are plenty of KOAs with cabins that are much cheaper/closer for that kind of trip.

Bottom line the old cabins interior should have just been updated. DVC doesn’t make sense with how the campground is structured and frankly the theme is a campground not a deluxe resort. The already cleared out lot that was meant for reflections should have been built out for a new dvc resort. If they have to go with a different plan than reflections so be it.

I think the perk for water park isn't that much of a crowd builder. It's late in day by time you get there, the benefit would be ignored by many, and it's more of perk by feature that many like and will never use. Easy for them to offer.

As always, I enjoyed your show! However, in your discussion of the Ft. Wilderness Cabins, I think you are not quite on the mark. We have been DVC members since 2011, and have stayed in a number of DVC Resorts, as have or grown kids and our 7 grandkids (ages 8 - 14). In May 2023 we spent a week in the Ft. Wilderness Cabins and loved it! So much so, that we plan to stay there again at some point. We're not ready to buy into that DVC property (the price point, even with the special deal being offered, is just too high!), but will likely pay the cash price for the experience. The kids loved riding around on a golf cart (yes, you should rent one), and also seeing the horses, etc. That's my two cents worth, so take it for what its worth. Keep up the great content!

  • @GoingFar77

DVC used to be a symbiotic relationship. Owners got a hefty discount on accommodations by prepaying for decades worth of vacations, and Disney got to pass on the maintenance costs and didn’t have to worry about filling up hotel rooms. They looked like geniuses during COVID. Then Disney decided they could make more money and offload more maintenance and not have to build any new resorts, and they jacked up the buy in price on top of it. DVC is a dying product unless management is shaken up. It’s destined to be another garbage timeshare like all the others instead of the pearl it was.

I really like idea of free water park day (on check in day) on moving day as part of a split stay. Not sure how many families will go otherwise given it seems pretty hectic on arrival day with early closing times of water parks. The water park thing the “what’s the cheapest perk we can give that nobody will use” perk. Sounds good as “free waterpark!” But completely inconvenient and impractical. Disney is continuing to devalue the product with this continuous stream of nonsense, the water park thing just being the latest iteration.
It’s almost as if Disney thinks everyone is stupid and won’t figure out Disney gave them something worthless.

DVC owners are no longer appreciated. We are second class citizens to the Florida residents which they feel they need to make nice for some reason.

Frankly, DVC doesn’t care once they have your money
