Colorado's New Directional DH Trail. Riding Hard Money in Black Hawk

- What a time to be alive. There is no better day than "New Trail Day". Hard Money is Colorado's newest directional, mtb only, dedicated dh trail, located just outside of Black Hawk on Maryland Mountain. The official grand opening is on Memorial Day Weekend, 2021, so come on out and enjoy the festivities.
This project was originally started by the city of Black Hawk a couple of years ago, offering outdoor rec opportunities close to town. COMBA got involved and raised funding to create mtb specific, directional trails. I see this sort of thing as a huge step in the right direction for the MTB community. The next round of fundraising will go to support the next two MTB only, directional trails, making four in total, culminating with a double black, true DH run. Huge thanks to Black Hawk for allowing BMA and COMBA to cater to our user group. The future is bright.
As we all know, these things don't just happen without the huge efforts of many people. Huge thanks to all of the volunteers have put countless hours into this trail system. Love your work. Please consider making a donation of time or money to COMBA or BMA. They are fighting for our user group on the ground and truly making an effort to move the needle. There are plenty of dig days coming up, every little bit helps the community. Be the change you want to see. Get involved! Cheers to Wendy and Gary for hosting Dacre and I.

Yeti Cycles has been supporting this initiative since the beginning, in hopes of having a true training area to foster the next generation of US DH racers.

Ripping! Looks so fun. Can’t wait to hit it.
@Colorado Mountain Bike Association Thanks for hosting us!
Thanks for showing the world this awesome system, Nate and Dacre!
RAD video Nate! Thanks COMBA and BMA, more 💵💵💵 from me coming your way!
Dude can you please share your GoPro settings and are you using the max lens mod?
So about 20 years ago I was the Planning Director for Black Hawk and was part of the team the negotiated the acquisition of Maryland Mountain from BLM - I used to ride the old jeep and rail grades and told the city council this would make an excellent mtb trail system. So nice to see this come fruition
Good job! It's easy to forget about all those who came before and made this possible.
Thank you! I just rode this yesterday, absolutely amazing trail system.
You're a legend! I love this trail system. Thank you
its the best trail system close to denver IMO. thank you for making it happen!
I rode hard money over the summer because of this video. Thank you
What did you think?
@@natehills9388 UA-cam and GoPro don’t do it justice. It is way gnarlier than what is shown. However it was an awesome time. Also that climb to get to the trailhead, it makes the downhill all worth it.
I had no idea this trail was even being built. So well played on the video collaboration. I just joined COMBA so I can contribute to this kind of effort. Thanks to everyone who made this possible and I'll look forward to pitching in in the future.
I just found about this project this week! I had no idea. lol. So stoked to get some eyes in it.
Dang! Berms, jumps, little tech and all DH only... Congratulations Colorado!!
About time ;)
Congrats *Front Range* LOL
@@mingazzini Fair. haha
Stoked! Props to Dave, Rod and Drew, those guys put in tons of work. I got to help out a bit on the bottom portion, lots of rock work. Heavy AF. Stoked on it!
Tons of effort went into this one and it definitely shows.
Rode Hard Money, Claim Jumper, and Millsite today - all I can say is these trails are legit, extremely well built and make huge use of the existing terrain, and (IMO) immediately among the best in the Fromt Range!
A welcome addition to the Front Range.
It is really rewarding to finally enjoy the fruits of your labor after you are part of the build process. Once this is worn in some, it will be even better. Should name that rocky, craggy drop the "Darce Drop." Keep up the great work and enjoy.
Huge props to everyone who helped stack dirt on this one.
Good to see more directional bike trails on the Front Range! Looks like this area will be a great compliment to the stuff at Floyd Hill, and those jumps look sick! Glad you and Dacre got to show it off with style. Cheers to everyone involved who got this approved and built. Can't wait to ride it!
The future is bright. Enjoy. And yes, huge props to the volunteers!
Dude! That instant face-plant with the slot machine sound... HARD MONEY!
Haha, thanks for picking up on that.
Looks like so much fun!! Damn dude! HUGE props to those trail builders/volunteers/patrons!
Indeed, lots of hard work went into this one. Check it out if you find yourself in the area.
Man that looks like a fun trail. I got arm pump just watching the video.
Hell yeah! Volunteering to do some work on it tomorrow! Can't wait!
Good man!
Wow! Looks like a blast. And in our own backyard. Thank you COMBA! Thanks for sharing this Nate!
Happy to showcase this one.
Finally rode these trails yesterday. So fun! Awesome all the work they put into it. I jumped that bush too. Good times!
Glad you enjoyed!
Go Colorado, Go Blackhawk! Some killer new trails in CO this year.
So good to see!
Palisades Plunge coming soon!
That stack was quite spectacular
Impressive actually.
This is way sicker than I expected 🤟
Beautifully built trail and sick session.
Hell yea. I know what I'm doing next weekend! Thanks COMBA!
Have fun!
This is a party trail. Flat out. Damn nice work done by the community! So inspiring.
Cheers to everyone who worked hard on this one.
Diggin the ride from Dubrovnik! Thanks for sharing the new MTB park! Happy Trails, Jg
Glad you enjoyed it!
Rode it today. Awesome trail. I like it better than Floyd Hill...more flowy. Linking a few laps of this and a few of Floyd Hill would make an awesome day.
Love that Gilpin County dirt!
Watch out for the Gilbillies.
Awesome trail. Great work.
Yeah Dacre! Nice vid, can't wait to check this place out. Nice work once again Nate.
Enjoy.
great trail! cool design. Nice to see people put in the time to make something that everyone can enjoy. Nice work!!

This look fun. Love this kind of weather gloomy and cold.
Looks Sweet definitely be there next weekend
Enjoy!
@@natehills9388 Will Do Thanks
Hiker will definitely walk up the trail
There is a hike-only option on Maryland, so hopefully that helps with that situation.
Fuck yeah Gary, camera loves you
Helped build it and riding it was so satisfying
Looks awesome, will have to try these out very soon.
Hope you enjoy
Awesome looking trails! I’m headed to Colorado in about 2 weeks, may have to stop and have a little fun there! Wow!
Enjoy your trip!
@@natehills9388 thanks! Looking forward to it!
I pass by there a lot and did not know those trails were there . New to the mountain bike scene and I might have to attempt the first DH on the video
Enjoy!
Just bought an Airstream and this place is going to be a place to visit for sure. Thank you Nate Hills!!!!!
The trailhead has the nicest crapper I have ever seen, lol
You guys got it figured out in Colorado man. Super sick looking trail. Gotta say, the Northeast has been doing a banger job as well. Great time to be a rider🙏
Great time to ride bikes!
Nice work for the trail gnomes!
Gnomes be stackin.
Sick! Two of my buddies actually rode this on Thursday (yesterday).
That's a pretty ball-zee ride for a first run! Thanks for the videos!
Dacre is the man.
Sick trail! And a very pretty little town.
Me and a few will be there opening day....looks awesome.

Best ride since....ever. Those downhill switchbacks are crazy on hard money.
AND after riding this I couldn’t help but to join COMBA. if my membership goes toward trails like this....hell yeah.
Awesome 👏 👍 😎
Yay to directional trails! New trail move : Scandi flick to Scorpion!🤣
Whiskey is my yoga.
Dude! Looks so good. Wish I was 12 again.
Wear plenty of armor and that will give you a little piece of mind😉
Que trilha maravilhosa.. Huges from Brasil!
Colorado has the best trails when it comes to MTB👍👍👍. Fresh air and smells pine tree.
You got that right!
Looks sick my dude! Come check out the trails in Durango soon!

Sick!!!
Looks dreamy. Pumped to give it a ride!
Enjoy.
Amazing video as usual, the trail looks to good to be true for a public trail, pinch me quick am I dreaming.
Beautiful place!
I moved back to Colorado from the Seattle area, I took Tiger mtn for granted. Stoked to see mtb dh trails making there way here. I'll be making the 3 hour drive to ride those in June. Thanks for all you do...
Enjoy!
Fun times! Definitely a ton of work though. I still prefer a natural downhill trail, but that one looks pretty cool.
Agreed. This is a ton of fun however, give it a rip if you are ever in town.
Such a satisfying video! Like MTB and trails like this. Hello from Russia! By the way whats the name of the music?
Nice 🤘 Can't wait
Hope Dacre is ok after he front wheel roulette trick. Always bet on black
Only a ninja can kill another ninja.
A ninja killer could also
nice trail
Looks like a riot!!
Yaaassss, more smashing for all
The 420th liker 💪🏾... Im getting into mtb this yr, just waiting for my trance advanced to get in
Good luck!
WOW!!!

Omg this thing is sick!
They build us jumps in the woods!
I'll be there in a couple weeks Hammerheads
Get some.
Went and got me some today...
YES finally FREERIDAY :)
Hidden Treasure trail head off HW 119 is the access point for this stuff?
Showing whats possible when you leave JeffCo!
And BoCo ;)
How did you even find this!? I live 15 min away and I didn't know about it. Its also not on mtb project or trailforks yet. Looks amazing though im excited
Comba probably invited him
Comba hosted Dacre and I to get some eyes on this new trail and hopefully get some funds raised for the rest of the DH network to be finished.
@@natehills9388 well ain't that awesome
@@liamtaylor9806 Honored to be able to showcase this one. Huge step in the right direction!
It’s been open since last year for most of the trails. Hard Money just got finished but Claim Jumper was finished last June or so.
We need this land management mentality on CA!!!
No doubt.
*Très bonne vidéo* 👍
That was legit. Have you ever risen Red Mountain Grandstaff in Glenwood Springs? It’s a pretty awesome downhill course, one of my favorites!
I need to check that one out. I've heard good things.
Well done whoever broke their backs making this trail! One question though. How do you turn our sandy, subpar dirt into those beautiful berms?
What helmet is the guy in front wearing?
Dude can you please share your GoPro settings and are you using the max lens mod?
Been waiting for this one. Roadtrip Maryland Mtn then hit new Plunge epic June 1?
Get some. Hopefully the Plunge opens soon!
I'm hearing that the plunge is pretty fucking gnarly. You can ride the lower section as an out and back.
What do you think of it compared to floyd? Can't wait to try it out!
Similar vibes for sure.
0:59
oof.
Are you both using spd shoes or not?
SO STOKED FOR THIS! 🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙Thanks Colorado Mountain Bike Association (COMBA) and Boulder Mountainbike Alliance (BMA) for making this RAD new area! SMASH THOSE DONATE BUTTONS PEEPS!

Not sure if you noticed the typo in the title.
Thanks for the heads up! Rough week in the edit cave, haha
Which handlebars is Nate riding and what width?
I am running Truvativ Descendant carbon bars on most of my bikes at 750mm
@@natehills9388 nice! Thanks for the reply Nate! Big fan of the videos! Keep it up and be safe out there. Handlebars and stem are my next goodie :)
0:59 fuuuuuck!
All downhill? Is there a shuttle?
This is accessed by a climb trail. No shuttles.
what climb trail did u take nate
I have ridden both of them.
Was hoping this wouldn't blow up tho
My stoke is high!
Unlike my crypto portfolio...
Same. Back to the moon please!
00:58 lmao that’s what he gets for ripping up the brand new trail with his scandy nonsense 😂😂
Some of the funnest turns on the hill right there!
Colorado's first berm turns 😆
Except for the existing ones at Floyd Hill, Fruita, Eagle, Breckenridge, Cheyenne Mountain etc etc
@@adamwood9144 Truth!
How do you decide which bike to ride on any given day?
I flip a coin.
What's the trail up like?
Mellow climb to the top.
How do you guys ride packless?
This is a 5 mile loop. We have everything we need on our bikes and in our bibs.
My opinion, you really need a backpack for a whole day riding or for few dozens miles from anywhere. Short's pockets, hips pack, seatbag or frame pack is often enough.
That was such a hard hit at 0:58.. My dude okay? lol Can't just show something like that and give no context.
Tommy is a legend.
