Snow leopards are rarely caught on camera. These elusive big cats live in some of the harshest environments on earth, in the mountains of South and Central Asia. Plus, there are only around 3,000 individuals left in the wild. It isn’t easy to film at an altitude of 5,000m, but our camera crew in the Himalayas did just that. Their footage of a snow leopard mom and her two cubs gives unique insights into these mysterious animals’ lives. Will the babies survive those crucial early months? Follow us to the Qinghai Tibetan Plateau to find out!

The female cub is a legend, she was bouldering through a blizzard before her first birthday

I have goosebumps and teary eyes watching this. These cubs are blessings to this world. I'm glad everything went well for the family. Thank you to all that involved for the footage especially the yak farmers.

I witnessed a snow leopard right before me, in Afghanistan. I can still recall being 14 years old at the time. It was a year of heavy snowfall, and due to the excessive snow in the mountains, they perhaps couldn't find enough food. As a result, they descended into the village and managed to get into a flock of sheep through a roof window. Regrettably, the villagers had to use a gun to shoot one of them. It was a heartbreaking incident, but it illustrates how people in that region rely on domestic animals for their survival.

In fact, their closest relative is the tiger, not the leopard.
They are white tigers with spots instead of stripes.

This gave me goosebumps! Many thanks and hugs to the camera crew along with the three shepherds who helped in getting these incredibly rare footage of some of the most elusive animals on Earth. Usually sheepherders despised predators due to their long term conflicts of nature vs domestic. Them being cool enough to appreciate the snowy families as part of the ecosystems is highly commendable. Hope there's no natives that are pro-poachers.

That was an amazing video. I was actually sad when it seemed like all hope was lost for the kittens, especially the male, but a happy ending followed. This footage is wonderfully shot. Brilliant work by the yak farmers. I can't help but wonder though if it is the same cub family that was found to have been reunited? Could they possibly have been another set of leopards in the vicinity?
