Absolutely right Professor Hunter. You never see it coming. Just 2 and half years after i was hired by the state i broke my ankle which because of infection ended up being amputated. I was counting on that job to take me to retirment age. Little did i know that it would be the end of my working days. And no, I wasn't prepared for that sudden drop off. I hope the younger listeners take heed to your warning and try to be ready for the unexpected.😢
We should be talking about the economic positioning of millennials and Generation-Z, particularly Black Americans. This is not a sex work conversation, this is not a Hollywood conversation, this is about being a child born to more than likely poor parents who lacked the economic education and foresight to plan for their child. If her parents squandered her money that’s because poor people don’t make the best decisions, especially in Black Hollywood.

Happy to hear you sharing a clip from Comedy Hype. I love that channel as much as I love yours. Camille is a class act. She seems to be grounded and making things work in the best way that she can.
First of all, her OnlyFans page isn't sex work. There is no nudity or sexually explicit content on her OnlyFans page. She said so in that very interview that you played from Comedy Hype News (which is an awesome black owned platform similar to VladTV and The Art of Dialogue). Secondly, a lot of these actors who can't find or get cast in live action roles, should pivot and switch to voice acting and voice over work. This is what actors like Mark Hamill and Keith David have done and they have become pretty damn popular and successful within the field. Heck, Cree Summers started out (and still is) a voice actor and is very popular and successful within the field. Animation (especially anime) and video games are very popular in this country and there will always be a demand for voice actors.

Just want to clarify a something. Voice acting, just like live action acting is neither easy nor easy to get into. Even if you are a known celebrity. It takes a certain talent, just like being a movie star. It takes a lot of skill, just like learning to sing. So it's not as simple as "just go do that." Having the type of voice that resonates for animation or commercials or anything else is a gift.

It was Gary Coleman who sued his parents. Gary was the highest paid child actor on tv in the late '70's to early 80's. I remember seeing Gary and his father in either an Ebony or Jet magazine article that reported that Gary was earning as much at $18 million. And yet by the time he turned 18, just about all of that money was gone. His parents were his managers throughout his childhood, so he sued them; unfortunately, he didn't recover much. They made him work year round (even during breaks from his tv show "Diff'rent Strokes") so they could live off his earnings.
It was reported that a portion of Gary's earnings was set aside for him and would become available to him when he turned 18, per law. But managers and lawyers kept going to court to get access to his money, and the judge(s) kept granting them access! They used his money to invest in things like malls, smdh. Again, this was HIS portion that was supposed to be set aside for safe-keeping until he turned 18 and could spend it himself. But the adults who were supposed to be protecting him squandered all of his money while he was still a minor. RIP Gary 😢

People need to keep in mind that most working actors don't make much. What do u think last year's writers and actors strike was about? Look, I'm not crazy about her decision, but that's her choice. We shouldn't shame her or anyone in her position.

Remember during covid, there was an EMT/paramedic (who are paid poorly for a great public service across the county) - she started an Onlyfans to support herself on the side, which pays incredibly well, and the New York Post tried to out and shame her for having an onlyfans

Bernnadette Stanis 'Thelma' from Good Times; I remember seeing her when I was stationed at Fort Lewis in Washington State, she was sitting at a vendor station in the miliary mall. There was a marquee that said Good Times Star, etc., I thought it was just merch, and then I look over and sitting on this chair was 'Thelma' from Good Times I couldn't believe it, and she was selling something like insurance, and people were just walking past her like she was anybody else, as if no one understood her cultural relevance or it didn't matter. I felt a little ashamed, as if we as black people had abandoned her??? She looked like she would have rather been anywhere else. So it's soooo true, just because you see someone on TV doesn't mean they are set for life.

This is primarily a black America is poor and a black America is underpaid discussion. Many people turn it into a financial literacy discussion. I am curious to know exactly how much she was paid per episode because we are finding out especially from those older black sitcoms that they were working for what amounted to a regular 9-5 salary. So white actors look like they are taking care of their money more because it's different being paid 5 or 10k per episode versus a million an episode 😂. And then for child black actors you get out in a position where this money is likely needed for current bills and the bills of extended family.etc.
Listen ladies, we as black people we just got into this wealth building thing. Unlike other races, they have had the chance to learn how to grow wealth and we have been workers since the 1700s. So it’s sad. May be our kids kids will do better

She didnt invest in herself. What was she doing selling ice cream. Use that money to get some acting classes to further your skills OMG what were her parents doing with her money. Did she want to be an actress. If i was a child actor spend money for better acting classes and work on the trade and hire a better agent. If not save your money and go to school.
That was her investing in her self. As a child actor working, she diversified herself by building a business outside of acting. I remember when she had a profile in black enterprise magazine for her efforts. Sometimes ideas an investments don’t work out.

Why does everyone assume that she is doing sex work? Onlyfans, has been marred by the stigma. Onlyfans has other content beyond that. It is a platform to distribute your brand (whatever it is), directly to your fans.
What Karen said made me think of child actors and young starlets being exploited in the golden age of Hollywood. The stories are out there. That industry is framed for exploitation and a cash cow for so many other than the actors. It’s nice when some independence is flexed and they’re able to steer the boat for themselves. Look at how online adult cam gave sex workers the opportunity to work for themselves rather than a studio. Look how some actors also produce the work they’re in. But the industry always claps back. Look at A.I. and the writers and actors strikes.
What is it about us that makes us feel like we own actors/entertainers? Is it a secret, buried resentment because of their success or what we imagine their life to be? We are sold the product, told we need this and that to be happy..
