I absolutely love mine. Was cheap enough as far as audiophile prices go, sounds better than anything I own, has a gazillion features and is super easy to use and well made. Maybe not the prettiest UI but I can change colors and it's very fast and slick for a device like this. Love having physical buttons and a physical volume knob as well as having those controls on the touch screen.
It also scans your library quickly. It just needs some better translation and maybe prettier themes, custom themes would be awesome but even just having a color slider is such a nice touch for those people that love colors.
I recommend it.
If I connect it to my desktop PC will it download all music files?
You have to put your files onto a SD Card then insert into the player.

My question is, why is no one but you speaking about this player? Literally, no one. I know it's fairly new, but it's been out a while... Because of the Surfans F20 we know they make great stuff. I bought an F20 18 months ago and returned it because the UI was so clunky... but this F28 looks to have corrected that. Plus the F28 is so good looking... if it's really an upgrade, I don't see why people aren't choosing it over almost anything else out there. This F28 seems to be a giant killer to me. I have a darn good ear, can pick out WAV over MP3 instantly. If this little player sounds great, for $165 it'll take the world by storm!
One more suggestion... the only other unit I was considering was the Sony A306. A really cool comparison would be the F28 with the A306. My guess is, the Surfans is going to win!
Hey that's a good idea, I was looking to review the Sony. It's quite pricey to get hold of though. In regard to your previous question I reached out directly to the surfans team and I have thier response below. "The F28 Music Player has been a labor of love for our team, involving three years of design and development. While it has been available on Amazon for only about a month, it's indeed a relatively new addition to the market, it hasn't received extensive exposure yet."

The cable The USB cable below the player like that when we are sitting at a desk for example and the wall socket is in front of us the cable can pass through and so with the cable connecting the headphones At the top of the player the cable can thus cross downwards and thus cross the other cable which allows for knots and almost impossible use normally.
The USA audiophile communities love it.
little hint: for those of you who like me have given up on IEM headphones.
I have and now I've gone back to my Sony earbuds. Some of you might be aware that modern earbuds can connect to two different devices same time. So in order to not miss phone calls you can have connections with both your phone and your surfans same time!
Of course with ear buds you can select tracks and just stop playing if need be I have also noticed that you can still control your ANC. I think this is a huge increase in functionality and value for money myself. Worth a go.
How reliable is it at getting artist / track names and artwork right when you transfer files to it? Most of my files are ripped from CDs to my iTunes, but I do also download some stuff from Bandcamp etc. I'm looking at filling the 512GB card up, so I don't want to have to go through renaming a ton of files etc. Thanks!
You would need your own artwork in the folder, it doesn't download anything, also what you are asking depends on the meta information in the file. If downloaded from a legit source it should have the correct meta info.
Can I sync my itunes library on this? I’m specifically referring to my playlist folders and subfolders directory on the itunes interface not my hard drive path.
Not that I'm aware of, it doesn't connect to iTunes. It just holds songs on the micro SD card, I would reach out to the seller on Amazon and ask the question directly just in case I'm wrong.

Or do you have to go back through the menus?
To the best of my knowledge you would have to go back through the folder menu.

Hello, I have a question about the surfans f28 product as I had it connected to the cable headphones 3.5mm jack the sound went out at full volume for no reason then I turned it off and on again and again the same thing I changed the headphones and the sound went out again can you help me please tell what could be wrong thanks a lot.

Do you know if this player plays gapless playback? I bought a different hi-res player and every live album would have a big gap in between songs which is a deal-breaker for me

I prefer to use FLAC for lossless music. Not my area of expertise but I believe most cover art needs to be in the same folder as the album but it also needs in the meta data of the file.
Do you have to take the memory card out to put music on or can you leave it in and transfer music while it's in the mp3 player
I'm assuming once the SD card is installed you could connect the USB C to PC and it would come up as a storage device. Although I have only transferred directly your the card. I'm away right now but will check in a few days.
UPDATE: Comes up in your PC like a USB Stick - you can copy and paste songs this way without removing the card from the unit.

I think I'll go with the R3 Gen II though, headphone sockets on the top are not very handy when using wired headphones / earphones and the 2.5 mm is a pain to find adapters for

I wouldn't go with absolutely anything that's got anything to do with Hiby honestly. I have the r3 pro saber and it's just trash and they've already abandoned it. It's got SO MANY software issues they they refuse to fix. It's too damn bad because it sounds so good.
@@eldenreviewsI have a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter for my headphones that don't have a 2.5mm. the balanced output usually has more power. It's worth it.
Review: I'd consider myself somewhat of an audiophile... I can easily tell the difference between MP3 and LDAC (which this player has) This F28 also sounds slightly better than my S20FE phone. If it didn't I'd send it back. The fidelity is truly stunning. The echo decay on Linda Ronstadt's Alison is breathtaking and distant. The base from hell is out of this world on Kenny Chesney's Always Gonna Be You, it has to be heard... Counting Crows and John Mellencamp are for the first time not shrill or sibilant. After 3 hours it's not at all abrasive, I could go all day long. I've only had it a week, but so far 5 stars. If this keeps up, I'll raise my review to 5 stars! Mine came with a 32 gig card, I noticed only after I opened the new micro SD from Amazon. Oh well... The touch screen is very particular... I couldn't navigate it until I realized, you "grab" the screen, and with authority slide it left or right. Now works great. I also locked out the volume at 100% and use my Bose QC2's manual volume to adjust, which works perfectly. This combo is actually surpassing the sound quality of my high-end Sennheiser wired earbuds playing on my Plenue D! I was stumped after loading about 1500 songs... it took the player about 40 minutes to fully scan and register all the songs. The progress wheel took forever. Took a shower and it was finished. Screen is bright, colorful and crisp, resolution is great for a hi-rez player. Bluetooth connection ranges from perfect to clunky. It sounds so good I can put up with an occasional burp, however, 4 stars here. The packaging and unit itself is beautiful, bordering on elegant. Overall a great purchase, especially with the Amazon 20% off coupon. Almost bought the A306. So glad I found this, a much better bang for your buck if you don't need Wi-Fi. I predict this little player gains a fast following. For the money, nothing I see compares. Get it now before Surfans figures it out and the price goes up! :-)
Thanks for the review! I'm am looking to get a DAP for myself and after a lot of reasurch I came down to the Surfans F28 and the Sony NW-A306 as well. As I researched it does look like that the A306 has more features and better sound quality but I don't know if it's $350 price point is really worth it compared to the F28's $145 price. I saw that some people say that it's worth it but I still can't decide if it worth it for me. Very frustrating lol.
@andyregevkantorovich127 I'd love to hear the A306. All I can say is, the F28 playing thru the aptX codec is fantastic. I can't imagine the A306 sounding much better for over twice the price. Like you, I get stuck on the quality train and have a hard time getting off. I'm waiting to see someone do a critical sound test between these two, but I'm willing to bet they're so close it would be hard to discern the difference. Again, if you're going to stream, you need wifi, then the A306 is a no-brainer.
@@buz5678 I am afraid the wifi A306 would kill the batter pretty quickly and would need to run updates from time to time, which can be annoying and render the DAP outdated after a while. The only reason I would like to have wifi is for Spotify but building your own mp3 library and enjoying it without the need of internet is amazing in my opinion!

Hi, I bought this based on this review. The unit would only load 20,000 songs from my card. Is there any work around for this?
Hi there, depends on the size of the card you are using and the length of the songs, I do mention a 512gb card is roughly 15,000 tracks. So 20k.is more than quoted.

Here is the information from their listing "♬【Expandable Memory and Long Battery Life】: With support for up to 512GB of expandable memory via an SD card, the Expandable memory music player can store approximately 14,999 songs." This is why I only quoted 15,000 in my video as technically depending on song size yes you can fit way more on a 512GB card. I would reach out to Surfans direct as they may be able to answer better than me.

You say nothing about audio books. I have audio books in MP3 format and music as well in MP3 format. How do you set up the files on the memory card to accommodate both? The player asks if you want to play books or music so obviously they designed to play both in one player.
I honestly haven't tried, but if you create an audiobook folder and keep your Mp3 audio book in there, you can then easily find them. Also they can view e-books as well.

You are saying design is missing a clip to attach to pants or pockets - I think that would take away from the premium design but that's my personal point of view.
Why did you take the protectors off?
I didn't want them on, over time things like that tend to bubble. Personal preference

When you turn it off mid song (or mid audio book in my case), does it remember where you left off so you can pick back up next time you turn it on?
No one ever seems to answer this question in all these reviews of mp3 players I've seen.
Everyone seems more bothered about blasted bluetooth.
Find me an mp3 player with NO wireless options, song selection from folders, MUST play next song in said folder wth no fading out of previous song, ability to automatically resume playback from last stop point and gapless if possible please!
Should be a simple ask from manufacturers, but sadly doesn't appear to be!
It has gapless playback and it can remember where it left off after restarting.

Does it shuffle songs?
Yes you can Shuffle the current folder. There doesn't seem a way to shuffle the whole player, only folders or playlists.
There is 2.5 balanced out and no review about it. What did you drink before review?

Be careful with this device. It's very easily scratched as I've found out to my cost. I've only had it about 24 hours. It's already got quite a bad scratch on the front fascia and it wasn't even in a pocket with my keys. Be careful.
Erm.. why are you using a knife?
Because I have very short finger nails - it's is a dinner knife as I mentioned and not sharp, ideally yes it would be better to use something plastic or your nails.
