The GT4 Gets An Over Axle Pipe Exhaust From Soul Performance Exhaust
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 вер 2024
- It's time to start digging into exhausts for the GT4. Soul Performance is one of the first to market with a legit exhaust solution, so I'm going to try out all of them in typical OG fashion! The Soul Performance competition over axle pipes are a great upgrade that are amazingly easy to install (unless you break a stud) and gives the GT4 a more aggressive tone.

Stay tuned for more crazy!
I've seen enough Goonzquad videos to know those guys are pretty humble and talented. That comment may have been a tad harsh. My guess is their videos just cater to a different audience.
Thank you I feel the same way. Probably one of the most disrespectful things that has been said on this channel.
Yeah, they are young and talented folks. I love them :) sometimes I cringe because they aren't doing something super exactly ammm obsessed but it's great to watch them learn everything themselves, like assembling overrated armytrix exhaust for a nice car :D
Goonzquad rebuilds things from the ground up and are very talented and rarely outsource anything except framework due to not having a frame table. Matt can't change a mirror without messing it up...
They are Great and the content they do is different. I really like what they doing.
@@seanstolarik8744 LOL, he still hasn't learned righty tighty lefty loosey
The rate you're putting out content is amazing!
i guess I'm kind of randomly asking but does anyone know of a good place to stream newly released tv shows online?
@Stanley Reyansh lately I have been using Flixzone. You can find it on google =)
Awesome video! Thank you again for teaming up with us to showcase a wide range of configurations, it really does help people make an informed choice. Looking forward to more! - Mike
Your kinda like the car guy version of Mark Zukerburg
Hate to say it but Matt jinxed himself when he said “this should be a straight forward install”. It was at that moment I knew the gosh dangs were going to be in full force 🤣
The dig at goonzquad was below the belt, they do a hell of alot more than you with your brand new perfect cars with 3 million dollars in tools.
It's not a dig at them. It's a dig at the 12 years commenting.
16:37 Ladies and Gentlemen I official reside rent free in Matt’s head. 😂 he mentioned my comment I left on the last Sonic Tools video about Goonzquad doing a lot with a basic tool set when they started. Note: the quality was never in question it was the tool usage. It could be crap x100 but the fact that most people that wrench do not need an 1800 piece tool set is still true🙂.
Dudes already a mental case.😉
@@MrCyp200la 😂 definitely
I'm talking about comparing young guys janking crap together having anything to do with what I'm pursuing and that being irrelevant. I know Freddy, and have seen B is for Build's stuff, and several others. None of this stuff is even close to my standard, so why would I accept mediocre tool set-ups. This isn't good enough garage.
@@ObsessedGarage lolol man I had to like your comment this is why I watch this channel . . . Good Enough Garage🤣😂🤣😂😂😂 thanks for the laugh!!!!
@@ObsessedGarage out of curiosity, what makes you say that all of their stuff is janked together? B is for Build undoubtedly builds to a garbage standard almost all of the time, but GZ seems to rebuild to an extremely high standard.
Before Soul, I believed John was at AutoQuest Motorsports back then down in Ft Myers, FL.
Indeed he was! - Mike
“For most grown ups it’s the right move” Lol 👍
Looks like a catalytic converter to me
It does look like it but I don't see anywhere in the video for the post-cat O2 sensors. Usually cats are quite close to the exhaust port and integrated into the header so they're more efficient.
www.autocar.co.uk/sites/autocar.co.uk/files/styles/gallery_slide/public/images/car-reviews/first-drives/legacy/flat-six_engine.jpg?itok=LdD9iIru
The cats are in fact on the header in this pic you can see the sensors on the lump to the left of the over axle pipe.
I think soul talked about it's the same GPF but there is no back sensor. Hence the bubble on the back of the filter on the sides. The euro spec has that area cut and fitted with the spot for the sensor
Somewhere in Germany Porsche engineers are crying
By unscrewing studs? Get out of here. That's just dumb.
Good. - Mike
Exhaust are one of the most simplest installations you can do on a car. Its basic. So by no mean makes you a technician.
Matt, the US market cars have exactly the same filter as EU cars, the only difference is that in the US the filters are unmonitored. I.e no CEL
Is that why there is no ‘check engine warning after removing PPF?’
@@mathiasnessim7624 yeah cuz the ecu is not checking that bong
Ah... That makes perfect sense.
I wonder how long he woulda tried using the 'reverse nut method' to remove that stud if Bryce wasn't there to help with the instructions?
The US has filters it’s just unmonitored so no ECU adjustments needed when removed
I have a soul performance exhaust on my 996 TT, makes it sound awesome. They make a great product.
Cheers! - Mike
Damn, that sounds good. I wasn’t really a fan of how “grunty” the stock engine is. But opening it up sounds REALLY good. You can definitely hear it’s not as high pitched as the 981 (which is just a 991.1 Carrera S engine) nor of the GT3’s 4.0 liter. I think it sounds a lot like an air cooled race car. Wicked.
It's still a little hollow sounding. I made an in-car video today that will be up tomorrow. I also disconnected the valves.
@@ObsessedGarage From what I've heard, I prefer aftermarket 718 GT4 to aftermarket 981 GT4 but agree that the 981 has it over the 718 if you compare stock to stock. The 981 is overall too raspy sounding for my tastes, and I also dislike pops and crackles.
No Bryce was harmed in the making of this video. ......
I pissed myself at the goonzquad reference
😂😂😂 I love how pissed off matt gets and just shouts out stuff lmaooo it’s fucking hilarious! he has no idea what he’s doing but it’s so entertaining to watch him
Sounded like with the oem rear unit and the soul OAP that you were getting some burbles and pops style backfires - was this true??? Do you think the OAP needs heat shielding like the akropovic and Flat6 heat shielded OAP name sake product?
Likely that when you were reversing that stud it caught a burr and pulled it into the threads, causing it to bind and snap.
Sounds awesome! Excellent upgrade
That thing is going to be nasty with a full exhaust. Night and day it makes taking out those filters though.
Most , if not all your videos are very informative. Love watching them. But the I have noticed, at the start of pretty much all your videos, you let out this “sigh / grunt” , like in your head, your sick of making them. Or like, you’re thing “why the f*ck am I doing these videos”
No, that's just my voice.
I feel like the gt3 rs is a lot more disposable to you. Gt4 you bought new, spec’d To your liking. Much more special purchase experience.
The American cars come with the filter as the euro cars but the American cars do not have the sensor attached to it as its not required, that’s the difference.
16:35 Come on man. Those guys do great things, Don’t be hating now 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️ just because you’re anal about your stuff doesn’t mean everyone needs to be too
The diffuser and exhaust tips makes the rear end ugly imo. Sounds great tho
Minimum wage ricer with $3k 350z = “A true build requires building from the ground up. Getting down and dirty”
When you have a nice car, you won’t need more than an exhaust 🤣
Did you delete your comment, Emilio?
“not quite how that works lmao if you actually enjoy cars and working on them you’re gonna figure out how to in any way you can.”
If you own a nice car, such as a new Porsche, Ferrari, etc you will not be doing more than exhaust, maybe wheels. You only tear down a car for a “build” if you drive a shitty car, like a 3 owner beat up 350z worth $4k. Or similar beat up depreciated cars you buy once it’s been abused by the previous 3 owners 🤣
An exhaust video.... here we go again 🙃🤦🏼♂️ whispers of M5
25:53
Very good video as usual. Don't you have to do an ECU tune since you deleted the OPFs ?
Not on this car. As per other comments, we don't have a sensor for the OPF in US, so no CEL for removal.
100k car cuts off bolts for exhaust 😂😂😂😂😂
the microphone's gain is set really high. i hear alot of noise and hissing.
Its Matt's breathing.
Hey Matt, sounds pretty good can’t wait to see what you end up with. Did you order your new iPhone a ceramic screen and you can get it finished in graphite everybody’s jumping on the bandwagon even Apple have a good one!
I will order Max next month.
@@ObsessedGarage Figured as much don’t know if you saw the keynote but the new phone is going to have a MagSafe type connector a built-in magnet wondering if you’re Rennline Will work without the supplied magnet. Don’t know your relationship with the rennline maybe you could get with them and see if they’re working on a powered mount that would be pretty sweet just stick the phone to the mount and it charges as well no wires pretty clean now all Porsche has to do is come out with wireless CarPlay and you’re all set enjoy the videos very much have a good one.
Surprising that they put the filters in without use because there's a good amount of expensive materials in them. They usually scrap for over £100 so can Imagen manufacturing isn't cheap
its an OPF Filter so it isn't useless
Do the headers but with hi flow cat, it will sound far better.
Loving the daily content! Gives me something to watch on my lunch break at my miserable 9 to 5 dead end job!
Ah, back for my daily unwind from work. Keep up the videos Matt!
the moment that fucker cross threaded my heart broke
You should have wrapped the pipe with thermal insulation. The cayman engine bays get very hot and the motors heat soak. Secondly, the heat coming off the down pipe can heat up the brakes/brake lines, which also can be an issue draining on track.
I get that, but we should be fine on the street.
@@ObsessedGarage Since you took out that stupid gas filter the system wont heat up as much. Never had a problem like that on my 981 GT4 on the track with a full GT3 exhaust conversion doubt the 718 will be any different once you do the mid pipe swap.
@@ObsessedGarage agreed.
I’d leave it with that. Sounds perfect!
Well shit, I'm doing the same install. Passenger side removal and install was fine. Driver side one of upper studs got jammed while backing out. Letting it soak in PB blaster right now, but I think I might have to cut the stud like you did, or pull the rear bumper and exhaust off. :(
Awesome spec on the 718 GT4. I running Soul on my 981 S. Excellent sound
Thank you for your support! - Mike
You're making reconsider getting a manual gt3 with these vids of the gt4 lol looks and sounds great and is about 80k cheaper lol
Plus its smaller, mid engine, so better handling
There is no replacement for the GT3 engine.
@@ObsessedGarage Its the same engine in both no?
@@ricola1759 no the gt4 uses an engine based on a Carrera S. The ‘16 was a detuned Carrera S, the ‘20 is a reworked Carrera S.
@@Perfection645 But its 4.0 L
The car looks great Matt. Perfect finish as always.
Hi, Matt. Just got a GTS 4.0. I'm currently doing the Soul valve controller and considering doing the resonated Soul OAP. This is sort of a daily driver (also have company car), but that just means I don't want too much drone, that I gotta keep it somewhat quiet in the neighboorhood and I want to be able to close the valve and listen to the stereo when just cruising on the freeway. OTOH, during much of my driving Id like to open up the PSE and hear her sing. Is doing OAP only viable for that?
I would definitely do nonres. Your valve controller will give you full control.
@@ObsessedGarage Oh, really? I was being nudged toward the res version. As long as it doesn’t make the car uncomfortable when I am choosing to run quiet I’ll probably move forward. Thanks.
You just reminded me of every emotion and problem I seemed to run into when I changed my 911 exhaust for the first time.
painful to watch
Sounds great! Maybe add some in cabin sound clip
Next video...
Not a fan of the sound. Check JCR exhausts in the UK. The make one for the 718 that sounds like the 981.
Archie Hamilton Racing showcased the full JCR system on the 718 GT4 and was high pitched and raspy not good sounding(AKG K553 PRO headphones), but Cars with Luke had a JCR setup that sounded good.
Gen1 C8RS agreed. Full system is too much noise and loses tone but just the rear JCR back box section is nice
You are not a fan of this sound, but you like the JCR?
This is just mid-pipes...not the rear section which would change the whole sound....please compare apples to apples.
Looks done now! Nice sound.
sounds great Matt. I was looking at Soul for my 991.1
Thank you for your consideration! - Mike
Why didn’t you do a before and after on the exhaust sound? Also, did you answer whether the US spec OPF filters are hollow or actual filters?
Never had a Porsche but on the list for next yr or so. Does doing any exhaust work void the warranty? Just curious where Porsche would draw the line on modifications.
Sounds great. I wonder if I could do this and still pass sound at Laguna Seca’s 92db track days?
Who disliked this?
Curious, whats with the product placement on top of the cabinet? Ad or new products being tested?
good job !
T’es trop 💪 🙏😉😉🇺🇸🇵🇹
That PB blaster is legit stuff ,it save my butt a lot at the winery on janked up crap.
So good
Who makes that silver pry bar? I want one! Looks similar to the fingernail pry tool
"This should come right out"... Famous last words
Also on an unrelated note is the GT4 ironically the new GT3? If you think about it the price is about where GT3's of old sat, the newer ones have huge price tags along with huge amounts of depreciation. To me the GT3 was an aspirational sports car, but it was attainable for the "common" person who worked really hard. Now it's become a stretch for those folks, it's almost into supercar territory.
Is the depreciation only with the 991.1? I could understand that depreciation for lack of transmission options, the few that caught on fire, and the successor having more power, a new engine, and a manual.
Love the sound, soul did a great job! And that color is beautiful bro.
Getting ready to order the OAPs for my Spyder, and am wondering if things will go a lot smoother if I pre-soak the studs with penetrating oil. That seemed like the only PITA part.
That would help, but they weren't too bad.
I enjoy Goonsquad videos and that they rebuild these salvage cars. They can drive and enjoy them for way less cost. But this channel is much different. It caters to a different group that obsesses at a different level, and maturity level. Well sometimes, lol
Bingo
Get the for sale sign ready, GT4 RS coming...
when are you going to do a comparison between the gt4 and gt3?
Great video! Now get her home and rinse off that break dust haha
I love my short neck cant work with out it no more elbow grease
Dont us cars still have those rear cats for cold start?
Winner winner chicken dinner damn that sounds awesome Matt.
He can sell me parts for a car I don’t even own...
Nice but personal opinion my 981 3.8 still sounds better but that's just opinion
Agreed
Saw the grinder and immediately clicked...
now you have to give us that rev limiter bro! lol
Would anyone else enjoy a POV camera angle?
I like it. Sounds good while under gas.
Where can I get that awesome lift?
SOUL FTW!
Cheers! - Mike
Were they not catalytic converters that you removed? sounds much better.
No, particulate filter.
You need a stud extractor socket set!
Just wondering. When u hit the racing exhaust bottom does the new exhaust gets louder?
Btw the new exhaust sounds amazing!
what kinda question is that
nah put the headers on🤩🤩
That sounds wicked
Hey Matt do you still have the HREs from the M3?
No, they went with the 1M.
Another enjoyable video, but I found that it was difficult to follow some of your comments because you were pointing to things that were not visible from the camera angle that was used.
@@Deagles456 I think that Matt is a big boy, and appreciates constructive feedback. Your response reminds me of the tone that I’ve seen come back from all of the Tesla fan-boys whenever someone points out anything that isn’t glowingly positive about that shrine... if Matt really doesn’t want people to know what he’s talking about in these types of videos, he shouldn’t even bother with the car being there then 🙄!
Yeah, our next evolutionary step would be to have a second camera operator with a gimbal.
@@ObsessedGarage I’m truly enjoying your journey!
Looks and sounds sick. Nice vid!
Wow !! 😱😍😍
You should try JCR. Best exhaust for GT cars, period.
No
Haha ok. Well I love mine. Followed your exhaust journey on your GT3 and ended up going with a JCR race pipe on my GT3 after trying other exhausts. Best sounding exhaust by far. Amazing quality and welds too.
Finally getting a good lift 😉
A huge improvement. But still not as good as the 981 GT4.
