We just got back from our first trip to Iceland one day ago. I cannot speak more highly about wake up Reykjavík tours. We did two tours, the food tour and the golden circle with secret Lagoon. We enjoyed it very very much. Tours were very informative and very small groups. Both guides were well informed. I made a mistake while booking one of the tours. I didn’t realize it, not I double booked the tour. I called wake up Reykjavik, they fixed the problem, no issues whatsoever, took them a couple of minutes and sent me a confirmation email. Very very easy to work. They give very solid advice. One word of warning to pump gas in Iceland. You need a credit card with a four digit pin code. Never even saw any. Icelandic money until I passed a donation box at the airport on the way out. Credit cards are used everywhere.
Hey there Scott and thanks for the fantastic feedback! I am so happy to hear that you enjoyed Iceland and your experience with us, rest assured we would LOVE to help you out again if you ever coke back 😃🇮🇸
@@Sweenece My experince was that sometimes you could use a credit card without a 4 digit pin at some gas stations(N1 gas stations were this way) and some gas stations required a 4 digit pin for all cards(the gas station right before the airport that advertises "We have the cheapest gas")
My #1 tip is if you visit during the busy summer AND rent a car, stay at one of the more 'boring' hotels that have their own parking. If you stay at a smaller hotel in Reykjavik city center, the walk to your street (or public) parking is probably longer than the walk from a larger commercial hotel to the city center.
Hey there Elle! Yes we agree! We don't think this is communicated enough so we really want people to be aware so they can plan accordingly :) Thanks for taking the time to comment!
As a result of this video, which I watched a few months ago, I recently did a food tour with Wake Up Reykjavik, with Silly as the guide. After the previous day of aimlessly walking around, it was a great relief to be taken to, and explained about, some of the most interesting place in town. The food, drinks, and conversation made the excursion a great experience.
I loved it. I'd go back in a heartbeat. As a solo traveler I felt super comfortable. Locals were wonderful. I made friends and I can't wait to go back and visit.
I had the pleasure of being stationed in Iceland for a year and a half (1993-1994). I spent most of my time in Keflavik, though. I was able to visit Reykjavik a few times. Saw the puffins. The "midnight sun". I remember we held the "all day fun run" during the winter... the event lasted an hour. The first thing they did when we landed in Keflavik was hand us a parka with a reflector in the shape of Iceland on the back. I still have the reflector. Kinda wish I could've kept the parka. I remember the wild, gale force winds in the winter that literally blew you along with it. I've heard the saying "if you don't like the weather, wait 15 minutes... it'll change" in several areas, but Iceland is the only place I've lived where that saying is actually true. Gullfoss Falls was incredible, as well as the geysers. Also saw the Bessastaðir presidential residence and church. I was kinda sad when I left the island for the last time, but I was determined to come back and visit one day. Now, I'm looking into coming back. It's been too long.
We were in Iceland in May 2022 and absolutely loved it! I spent a lot of time watching videos like these to plan the best trip possible for my husband and I. We knew where the airport was so booked fly bus tickets as soon as we arrived and also for our return trip to the airport 9 days later. I learned from the videos about the best tours to pre-booked small group day tours for the Golden Circle including a volcano crater (I don't recall how to spell the name so will not butcher it by trying!), the South Coast Tour that included Glacier Lagoon and Diamond Beach, and also a Snaefelsnes Tour that included lunch on a horse ranch. They were all so amazing! Your country is so beautiful and the people are so friendly and helpful. Our hotel was on Rainbow street which was the perfect location. The videos also taught us about great places to eat, and what to eat, like lobster soup at SeaBaron, the Sandholt with their amazing bread, where to buy groceries, we personally loved Kronan, and we also learned about the Iceland Hand knitters Society and were to buy our lopapeysas (we are from Winnipeg Canada where it gets extremely cold). And importantly we learned what to pack for May weather and for the tours we were going to be going on, layers layers layers!!! Our trip was perfect!!! We are now planning a return trip!! Love love love Iceland!!
Hey there Shelley! Wow how amazing to hear that! Everything you mentioned sounds like the perfect Iceland trip, but there is always more to explore 😀We sure would love to be a part of your second trip 🧡

We will be in Reykjavik in about 3 months and we are so excited to have found your UA-cam channel. We have already booked tours with you and so much looking forward. Thank you Gudny, your videos are amazing and very helpful for first timers!
This is by far the best company to get your tours from. I did three tours with them (Sept 2023) and they were wonderful. I took their advice and booked the food tour the first day. I arrived at 6 am in Keflavik. I was able to check into my hotel and met up with the group at 11:30 am at Harpa. It was a wonderful experience to get oriented in Reykjavik and met some wonderful people at the same time. Dagur was our food guide and fabulous. Kali and Gustov were our guides to Snaefellsnes and the south coast.
@@WakeUpReykjavik. there is no question in my mind which company I would book with! Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas. I’m sure with all the things happening on the Reykjanes Peninsula, you have time to share your love of Iceland with some of the folks who have been displaced. You all have great hearts.
Just got back from a 2 week stay. We did the ring road and it was the BEST!!! We stayed at a different place every night as well. I can't tell you how awesome it was! The only stressful part was driving in the mountains. I'm afraid of heights so I would drive really slow. What I do love about the country's driving culture is that people will go around you. And there are plenty of places to do so. Other than that, I had no problems with any of the driving. Except one time I parked in the wrong direction on a street. A taxi driver got out and came to us while we're sitting in our car and frustratingly though being helpful said, "You see, you're facing the wrong way. This is a one way street." We quickly apologized and moved. I was frustrating because I felt I was doing fine up to that point. LOL I'm used to driving on ice and snow so the conditions weren't new in that regard. Anyhoo, I took over 3k pictures. And though every night had clouds one night didn't. And it was the perfect condition for the northern lights! A bonus to the trip. We weren't depending on seeing them but so glad we did! I would recommend going there! And though I know it'll be hard, I hope to eventually live there. The weather and landscape is actually what I adore being around. :)
I went there in 2022. Great trip. One day I will say 'Eyjafjallajökull' correctly... Next time I visit, I'll probably just rent a camper, visit Costco, stock up on food and just hit the Ring Road with absolutely no plan. I know what places to see I missed last time, and I know what places I'd like to see again. :)
We have been seeing the Aurora Borealis lights all over United States of the last few years. This past year were the brightest and most varied yet! Something is MAJORLY changing!!!
Thank you so much for these great tips! I’m planning on visiting in late August but we’ll only have 4 nights in Iceland! Everything in the capital sounds amazing, but I wish we had time to see highlights of the southern coast!
Thank you for the great tips. We will come to Iceland from 29 January 2023 to 8 February. The food tour and the northern lights tour we will book with you ahead of time. Maybe we will see us there. Many greetings from Switzerland. Hans-Peter
Hey there Hans-Peter! Thank you so much for the kind words! We sure are excited to see you here in the end of this month! Don't hesitate to reach out if we can help with anything! 🧡
Thank you! I will be traveling to Iceland on a low budget, so I won't be able to book the tours this time, but what you are doing sounds amazing! Thank you for all your tips!
Even though you are going on a low budget, keep in mind that things like food, gasoline, and souvenirs cost a lot more in Iceland than in most other Western countries and plan for those things ahead of time.
@@CricketsBay Hello, thank you! My trip is over, and yes, it was expensive, but we survived! For future trips, I definitely recommend bringing your own food from home, haha. But it was worth it and I thank God that I was able to save enough money before the trip. 😁
@@rurunim I am planning to visit Iceland in Feb 2024. My budget for the spent will be EUR150/day. I have no idea whether it's enough or not. I may bring some food(such as cup noodles or snacks)from my home to save some money. The main aim of my trip is photography.
I backpacked and stayed in Iceland for two weeks in 2001 and I had an amazing time. Really felt a charm for the culture and way of life. Look forward to returning as last time I stayed in Hostels, but they were the best I had ever seen at that time, compared to other countries.
Love the video.. heading to your website to look into booking some tours for my upcoming trip.. can I find one with Gudny as the guide?? she seems so fun!
I’m watching this video for the second time. This is very helpful. I am going to stay in Reykjavik 8-12 January next month. Because I’ve not got many days I will book a northern lights and golden circle tour. I wanted to do the south tour but just a shame I only have a few days.
From what all the people from Iceland say then you are within the right months. March seems to be the last good month before Summer. I’d recommend booking the cheapest hotel possible so you can spend more on trips. If you don’t drive then save some money for Golden Circle and South Coast tours.
I have wanted to visit Iceland sine I was a child. When I do go I am definitely going to use your company, This is the best Iceland video so far that I've watched.

Have family there but don't really know them that well. Planning on going there in the next year ...hopefully. Really just want to check out the island and see Akranas. The ring tour sounds great but the amount of driving sounds brutal.
If you plan on going to the Blue Lagoon, book it weeks before you go. We tried to get tickets last July after we arrived in Iceland, but it was too late.
I love the way You presented Iceland. I rly lole to live there. Maybe one dat I will. But for now I have a problem with finding accommodation and job. But hope soon I will find some. And will be able To live there for a at last 2 years 😉
I thought you guys only did food tours . I’m in the tour planning portion of my November trip so will definitely check you all out for my tours . I’m really stuck on my northern lights tour or if I should even do one .
Super helpful Thank you I'm putting my thoughts in high gear for 1st week April 24 Off season less crowds. Less expensive on shelter and flight and car rental I was thinking of driving the ring road 1, but been told by travelers of iceland make your road trip the Golden circle and southern coast not northern half or east coast in early April cause of weather & road conditions I knew about duty free alcohol purchase at airport but didn't realize it came with certain units.
Thank you for these videos - I am coming to Iceland for the first time in a couple months and won't get a chance to do the food tour this time with our tight schedule, but I am loving these videos!. You are so funny, I would love to just hang out for a day with you telling me about Iceland! (and I don't like a lot of people haha) Will definitely look into the Wake Up Reykjavik Tours next trip out there :)
I sure hope you enjoy Iceland, and maybe you are able to join in the foodie fun the next time you are here 😋 and then we might run into each other haha! Thank you so much for the kind words and for watching 🫶

Great video! Super helpful. Planning to visit Iceland from India for 5 days mainly to experience northern lights. Any tips on which dates we should pick so that we have maximum chances of experiencing the phenomenon?
How’s the dating life for singles like me? How easy or difficult it is to find a local girl for dating, fun etc? What are the best places to find girls in Iceland?
Sounds very helpful, thank you! I just purchased a ticket for early October---my research shows that is still a reasonable time to visit. Is Uber a feasable mode of transportation?
Ok so maybe bit of an odd one for you. Me and my Fiance wanted to maybe look at getting wedding rings in Iceland as my partners dad was in the merchant Navy and he really loved Iceland. Is there anywhere you could recommend please?... Or not recommend lol. Also really interested in the Puffins visit. >.>

Thank you for these great tips! Iceland is definitely on my list of must see countries, and it is handy to know that I can hire suitable cold weather gear, as I come from Australia, so our climate is very different to yours. I would like to hear a little more about your favourite Reykjavik destinations as well as information on the ring road trip. The food tour that you promoted sounds excellent. I am planning in coming to Iceland soon this year once my paper is right
Do you have a video about how to pack for a visit to Iceland?
Not yet but that is a great suggestion, we will definitely add it to the list! 🥳

I'm putting my thoughts in high gear for 1st week April 24
Off season less crowds. Less expensive on shelter and flight and car rental
I was thinking of driving the ring road 1, but been told by travelers of iceland make your road trip the Golden circle and southern coast not northern half or east coast in early April cause of weather & road conditions
I knew about duty free alcohol purchase at airport but didn't realize it came with certain units.
You are so welcome, looks like you have been doing your research and I am sure you are well on your way to have an awesome stay here in Iceland! 🇮🇸
Going in October. So excited!
Woohoo! We hope to see you! 🥳
Great video, we will be there soon!

Great video! Super helpful. Planning to visit Iceland from India for 5 days mainly to experience northern lights. Any tips on which dates we should pick so that we have maximum chances of experiencing the phenomenon?
Great video I want to visit sometime in the future. From Miami Fl. Love the Stormtrooper helmet.
How’s the dating life for singles like me? How easy or difficult it is to find a local girl for dating, fun etc? What are the best places to find girls in Iceland?
great video, thanks!
This video was such a life saver!
So happy to hear that 🥰
Super video. Love your cool accent😊
Sounds very helpful, thank you! I just purchased a ticket for early October---my research shows that is still a reasonable time to visit. Is Uber a feasable mode of transportation?
SUPER USEFUL info!!!!!! thank you!!!!!!
Glad it was helpful! :)
Very well done.
Ok so maybe bit of an odd one for you. Me and my Fiance wanted to maybe look at getting wedding rings in Iceland as my partners dad was in the merchant Navy and he really loved Iceland. Is there anywhere you could recommend please?... Or not recommend lol. Also really interested in the Puffins visit. >.>
Wow, what a fun glitter bomb Gudny is. I love her energy!
Thank you so much for the sparkly comment ✨ and stay tuned for more fun videos!
Thanks for watching guys! We sure hope you found these tips useful, if we do a part 2 🇮🇸 do you have any questions about Iceland or anything Iceland related that you need tips on?! 😃
Please let us know in the comments 👇
How can we contact you to arrange a tour?
Thank you for these great tips! Iceland is definitely on my list of must see countries, and it is handy to know that I can hire suitable cold weather gear, as I come from Australia, so our climate is very different to yours. ( Our summer temperatures average 30 to 40 degrees Celsius. Winter, where I live, is similar to your summer temps!)
I would like to hear a little more about your favourite Reykjavik destinations as well as information on the ring road trip.
The food tour that you promoted sounds excellent. Loved the video, such fun! 😊🇦🇺
Please give me the name of the tour company to send email or to call , please give me the number!!
Any help about getting to and from International airport gratefully received especially with bus to early departure flights.. as in 6am one...with bus getting to airport at 4.15am...does this work out... ?
