Indeed. Would require a workaround, which actually gives great results. Jimmy uses it. SM2 adapter in hot shoe, a shock reduction adapter. Mount an audio recorder like LS P4 on 1/4 screw of SM2. LS P4 has bidirectional mics, and another mic for bass frequency. Can record sound from 180 degree, to a narrower area like shot gun.
I don't need 4K or a microphone. I am a photographer not a filmmaker. I will take just as good pictures with OMD-10 mark 1 as with my mark 3. Even with an old Pentax K But I admit that on the IV there are some interesting functions.
I did not even know that this camera was in the works. Very excited to see a new E-M10 model with that 20mp sensor I've been craving. I have owned every E-M10 model and currently shoot the Mark II. I can't wait to get my hands on this one!
Very nice introductory review of the OMD-10 Mk IV. The out-of-camera JPG's look as good to me as ever. I pretty much stopped using RAW just for the ease of use and savings of time (except in special occasions). Modern Oly JPG's have always been excellent throughout their camera line. Keep the great reviews coming, Peter.
I was a bit underwhelmed by the JPG quality, since they obviously sport a considerable lack of sharpness and details. I have no idea whether that is owing to throwing the JPG files into a YT video or if the kit lens is to blame.
Great video, Peter. As a shooter of the E-M10 Mk. III, and as someone who has been watching Olympus for a long time, I think this was The Right Thing to Do. It is a revolutionary improvement in the E-M10 series, as opposed to the incremental stuff that has slowly been rolling out for the past several years. I almost wish I was buying now, instead of 2 years ago. I HAVE noticed that the C-AF on my III lets me down every time I need it, and that the eye detection is weak as well. I would have settled for big improvements on those two things, but the other things really make this a compelling package. That kit lens is really good, too. I brought my III and the pancake zoom with me on a motorcycle trip last weekend; it fit nicely in the tank bag and was more capable than anything else of that size I could have brought.
You made my day! I got this camera as a Xmas present last Xmas 2020 and as a beginner into photography your comments on it have made me feel like I can do so much more of what I initially thought ... Good Stuff!!
Great review, Peter. I know what you mean about maybe choosing it over the e-m5 iii for causal photography. 100grams lighter and smaller is very tempting, especially with the new flip down screen. I would seriously consider using it but the lack of mic jack kills it for me. Sometimes I like to start vlogging my photowalks at random so I need the mic jack.
Thanks Rob. I understand. I am not doing vlogging style that much so the mic jack is not that important for me, but it should be there. Video is very popular and audio is important so I do not understand why its left out.
This camera rounding up very nicely offering from Olympus. Very good move from Olympus. Full system, covering almost everything from A to Z. Plus incredible optics.
I think it spells the end of low key sexist marketing at least. I was never comfortable with the idea of the PEN-F for men and the other PENs for women.
Finally auto-panorama ! Currently I have to switch to my iPhone when I want a panorama, such a shame. Does it has other auto-composition in-camera options ? I think some important ones are : auto-focus-stacking for macro, good auto-HDR, night-mode (at least like the one on iPhones). There is no need to make big changes in a good product. I also prefer the tilt screen and coming from a EM10 v1 this new 5 axis stabilization and better grip are truly welcome, and USB charging, it is a great travel camera 👏🏻
I really think that JPEGs are underrated. They are just so good out of the camera for Olympus, that there is only a 10% adjustment you have to do to get nice images. Obviously if you start shooting in difficult lighting conditions, you need the raw files, but the point of photography is to find good light. Coming home from a trip with a card full images having to edit every single one for personal use is just a huge burden. You see the images in the camera, and then you go download the RAW files, and you have to do 90% of the editing work just to get to where the JPEGs were. Also don't forget most photographers are not pro, they are at best prosumers, and most will loose interest after editing 10 images :P . For every professional photographer that earns a living from this there are 9 who do it for pleasure
I am very annoyed that Olympus still uses JPEG and doesn't offer something like JP2K or HEIF. Curves help but they are not the solution. The idea is to make RAW redundant. I don't want to do any post processing to my photos. It's a waste of time. But, modern cameras, especially those by Fuji, are helping in that direction.
@@Biosynchro Do you process these files, and which camera system do you use? Give me some examples of which manufacturer provides JP2K and HEIF files with an entry level camera!
@@Biosynchro Simply because they are still not universally supported! Beginners do not buy a camera and find out that they cannot view these files unless they convert them back to jpegs.
Sounds really interesting. Reading on the Oly website it sounds like this is a new sensor. No phase detect but takes the contrast AF from the EM1X and improves on it. Quote from the website "The moving subject tracking algorithm has been completely redesigned based on the pro use OM-D E-M1X contrast AF. It utilizes the high precision focusing of contrast AF while significantly improving tracking precision for moving subjects. This feature makes it possible to achieve high precision focusing on moving children." This is probably possible because of that new processor. I still think there's a new sensor coming in the next EM1X
Speaking of the "bump-out" grips on modern cameras -- my digital camera is a Panasonic LUMIX G85 -- so it has a "medium" grip -- definitely larger than the new EM10 -- but not as large as some of the latest full-frame cameras. But I collect and use old cameras -- and up until the late 1970's (with a few exceptions), there was no bump-out grip on 35mm SLRs or rangefinder cameras. And I must say that I really have no problem using them due to no grip. *BUT* I have noticed that with my G85 when I am just holding it in my right hand walking around looking for a shot, holding the camera by the grip feels *very* secure -- but doing the same thing with those older no-grip cameras it does feel much more like the camera could easily slip out of my hand.
IMO the no (or small) grip worked well for SLRs with manual wind levers. I preferred to have the base of my thumb up against the back of the camera (there were no buttons and dials there back then!). My first SLR (Contax 159) had a slight grip. The motor drive that I got later had a much larger one, and I held that like modern DSLRs with larger grips. The late-80s Canon T90 was probably the granddaddy of current camera design, and that had a large grip -- built in motor drive, no manual wind lever.
Thanks Peter, I bought this camera because of your review- and am happy (so far) with it- as it's a big step up from my nearly eight-year-old Olympus EPM-2.
Awesome intro! 😄 ...and a great video as always. Looks like a really good upgrade. Peter, if you can, please tell Olympus that they need to add the in-body Panorama stitching and adjustable art filter intensity feature onto the E-M5 iii as well. Perhaps Pro users may not care for them, but I believe those are very valuable features that would be appreciated by enthusiasts using the E-M5 iii. The art filters are really good, and being able to adjust the intensity of each filter will give greater flexibility in applying them in more scenarios than before. Cheers, and thanks for the great review as always!
I'm as critical with this camera as I was (and still am) with the E-M5 Mk III - too expensive for an entry-level camera. [Edit: Okay, not as expensive as I first thought, I only saw the price including the EZ kit lens. Still, not really cheap.] And I don't think that this will replace your E-M5 Mk III for everyday shooting - no weather sealing, and last I've heard Finnland is not that much better when it comes to rain as, say, England … ;-) That said, I totally agree with you that the E-M10 Mk II is actually a nice camera. I bought one used some weeks ago, and I find it very liberating (because it was so cheap I just don't worry about weather sealing - if it goes bust, I don't lose much money ;-)). I found even the 16 MP to be practical, but my Pen F has the edge when it comes to details.
@@ForsgardPeter It would be interesting how it goes with the E-M10 Mk IV. Maybe combined with a weather sealed lens it is just "good enough" for the usual conditions - we didn't have weather sealed cameras in the past, and it worked (not in heavy rain, but most of the time). I might still go E-M5 Mk III at some point in the future (to replace my Pen F).
@@Michael-xi1ej I would go for the E-M10 MkIV, if it's the only camera, or the main camera (the MkII could be relegated to act as backup camera, or converted to full-spectrum or IR - it is really cool, and would give a "second life" to this nice camera). Not for the features, but for the newer sensor and the 20 MP (instead of 16 MP), but that's personal.
Hi Peter! So glad to see Olympus releasing again!!! This is maybe the best beginner camera for someone on a smaller budget, maybe with a used MkIII as second. I have a few "young" friends (kids of close ones) who are very good with their smartphones that I would like to the next level. PS What a beautiful DC3 aircraft!!!
I love Olympus cameras; having said that I don't understand why Olympus continues with the EM10 model versus the EM5 Mark III. I agree with your comment on the need for a microphone jack especially if any videos are intended.
Yes. Just make the EM5 mark III and sell it for $699 for body. I got my EM10 mark II for $349, I believe it was, with the 14-42mm R II lens, which is decent. It is metal - and feels like it - nice cold steel. With the 20MP there may be more room to crop, and the ISO performance--- well I don't know, maybe better. With Canon selling M50 kits, with bad, and SD card for $499 on sales, I am not sure Olympus will be selling all that much. Sony, which has the marketing has the a6100 for $650 for body. Then there is Nikon and Fujifilm to deal with. Really, with JIP taking over Olympus, I just don't see a future..... Will JIP continue with low end? The EM1 and EM5 is really all that is needed, if sold at competative prices. Yes, I know IBIS and all that stuff, but lens stabilization works too. MFT may continue as video / vloggers choice of tool.... but alas, more competition there as well.
I agree, I found the E-M10 II is better than the III. That was a nice detail you included. I'm also very happy to see on the specs, an unlimited buffer with mechanical shutter. Really if I get the E-M5 III it will be for video using Phase detection and mic jack. Pro capture mode is nice but if the the E-M10 IV give you 15fps electronic shutter, Pro capture isn't as important to me. Glad to hear that contrast detection is improved with C-AF. I too rarely used C-AF and found contrast detection pretty reliable. Interesting compromises between the E-M10 and E-M5. I'm sure it will be going for $599 on sale fairly quickly and that's a $400 difference from the E-M5 III. There are definitely some nice updates and some things I hit the limit with my Mark II that should not be an issue with the IV. I'm torn but there is one more lens I want to get for my kit and I'm not sure if the $400 difference will affect how soon I get that lens.
Peter; thank you for this thought provoking review. I was considering upgrading my EM10 Mark 2 to an EM10 Mark III. Now i will have to rethink my strategy !
To be honest, Olympus dumbed down the Mk iii because UA-camrs criticised the Olympus menu system as too complicated! They never even realised that there is the SCP. With this camera, Olympus realised they have made a huge mistake and reverted back to what they should have done with the Mk iii. Never listen to UA-camrs!
I believe the MKIII has a 16Mpx sensor. Also, the M5III has phase detect on the sensor and the M10IV does not. The sensor is reportedly the same as in the PENF
The 20MP sensor seems to be the one from the PEN-F which is the only other camera that had a 20MP sensor without phase detection. - With the newer Truepic VIII processor (PEN-F had Truepic VII), this looks like a great replacement for the PEN-F. - I won't be surprised if Olympus repackages the sensor and processor into a PEN-F housing to appeal to some more users. - That would probably not cost them very much in development (better IBIS?) but hopefully shift some more units to make them more profitable.
I still have the Mark III and continue to use it. It brings me a lot of satisfaction despite the reviews of the testers. Maybe upgrade to Mrk IV next year One more thing, I'm not a beginner. 40 years of practice (Canon Nikon and others) These small Olympus cameras are sufficient for my needs.
A very good Camera indeed! I like everything. I agree that they should include a MIC input. With this small detail it would be a perfect compact travel / vlog Camera. It will be my next “Camera C” and took the place from my GX80. Thank you Peter!
Hi Peter, after having used both the E-M10 MKII and MKIII, I 100% agree with your comment that the MKIII is not as versatile as the MKII. It seemed the MKIII was "dumbed down" compared to the MKII. After buying a €19 aluminum grip from China, the E-M10 MKII fits perfectly in my hand. I'm wondering... Other than the screen difference, how does this new MKIV compare to the MKII? If I remember the MKII has a different processor and sensor, but the image quality difference wasn't really noticed (?).
I am planning a video about those two E-M10 system cameras. I am interested in how much the 20Mpix and a different processor differs when we talk about IQ.
Great intro to a new offering but I have to disagree on the reticulating vs. drop down screen. One big advantage to the reticulating screen is that you can close and protect it. No worries about scratches or other damage when not in active use. On the other hand, totally agree with your feeling that this may be your new go-to for active photography. A good friend with much more experience than I bought into the EM10 as soon as the first iteration came on the market. He knew that the best camera is the one you can take anywhere and, of course, Olympus glass is always great!
@@hnahler Still nothing wrong with the sensor! What many people do not realise is that the sensor is simply a hardware that captures the light. It is the processor and software to creates the image and that's where all the recent improvements made in IQ comes from for all the manufacturers. Sony and Canon still uses 24MP sensors that came to market in 2014/2015, just repackaged as new.
@t Lim , totally agree, there is nothing wrong with the sensor. It is good to hear from Peter’s experience that the C-AF is greatly improved even without phase-detection AF. This is most likely down to the improved processor (VIII) and software. - In order to discriminate between the PRO cameras (E-M1, 1X, 5) they cannot include phase-detect in the E-M10.
I upgraded from the Mark III to the Mark IV about 3 months ago and have no regrets. Better autofocus performance, slightly finer image and longer battery life. This body is not made of ordinary plastic, but of a material, certainly not of metal, but of an alloy of very solid materials. You need to take good care of your photo equipment, use a carrying strap and a quality bag.
Very happy to see that M10 serie is also upgraded 🤗. Sensor definition, screen motion, USB charging and C-AF upgrade are very welcomed improvements 👍. I currently have the M10 II and I miss all these features 😅...but it made me a better photographer because I need to avoid crop with 16 MP (first time right), anticipate battery charging, improve my use of manual focus to compensate poor C-AF performance and so on. 😁 One question, is it a plastic body ?
I love the new grip, but the USB charging alone makes me want to upgrade from my MkIII. I recently bought the 12-45pro and love it. Now I see how everyone felt when they bought the 12-40pro. The only time I've taken the lens off was to see how it felt on my old epl-6. Great job as always.
The E-M10 IV teaches me how to get round the custom menu distractions on the E-M10 II. The Mark IV Super Control Panel has all the entries I need, vital on Sandra's 60th birthday for her portrait shot requests against the sunset. Increased resolution makes 33x23 inch enlargements less critical than those from the Mark II. I have no problems with the audio. Using 4K takes enormous amounts of time on my existing laptops, but I have succeeded with my early tries.
Very compelling camera, and I will purchase one to use with my E-M1 Mk III. About the microphone, that's something that I really don't care much about. I'm mostly a photographer, and the few videos I capture (I do mostly slide shows), I use with overlapping music and sometimes ambient sounds that I can easily capture with something else. Not a big deal for me. But that new panoramic mode, now that's something!
Thank you Peter, I always enjoy your "take" on things. Location too. One thing for me though, if I had just a tick more time to look at the images it would be good for me. Just 1 more second would be cool for my brain. (;
Looks like a great camera, a step back in the right direction after dumbing down on the mk.iii. I have thd mkii and think its a cracking little piece, I likd the grip redesign, I think it was a failing up until now, canon and Fuji I think have a similar indentation on lots of cameras in their ranges, Far from it for a non film maker to criticize, but was the white balance correct on the film? There was a very blue cast over everything, your skin tone looked wrong to me. Keep up the great videos
A great street photography camera, small, unobtrusive, tilt screen and silent shutter!...love it.......will be exchanging my mk111 for one when available...thanks for the video....🇬🇧📸🌈😎
Still prefer the E-M10 IV over the Mark II. Firmware update 28th Feb 2022 improves focus even more with my zoom lenses. On my HD1080p resolution laptop screens I can't see the advantage of 4K. Have faster laptop now for processing video, which reduces the time taken between camera takes and UA-cam uploads.
Sadly I ended up with the neutered E-M10 Mark III, which could be sorted via Firmware. The only UI neutered Olympus camera in the series and the successor quickly does a U-turn clearly highlighting that the beginner shit was a mistake (it clearly was). I got a good deal on the E-M10 MK III so it's not all bad, but burying some of the shit in a dedicated menu was a stupid move and the total lack of custom profile settings is a big no (not even one). I came from a Nikon D7200 which had great C-AF (easily handling photography of low flying (old skool) aeroplanes) but even that APS-C camera was kind of bulky in comparison (especially lenses). The CDAF on the EM10s (not the MK4 of course), is absolutely shocking beyond belief... so much so that I'd say it's defective and unfit for purpose. For stills though, the EM10, much like Olympus' other cameras, does a great job. It annoys me that CDAF is practically unusable.
Lee I agree. The mark III was a slap in the face of users and I didn’t upgrade so they got no business from me. I really dislike their attitude and removing features via software and calling the camera a beginner model. It was a bad move, but apparently now an E-M 10 Mk III “S” model has appeared on the Asian market with the features restored according to dpreview. But now that the camera division is sold out to RIP it might just get worse with the Olympus brand and I have no reason at all to upgrade...
I am new to the Olympus world. After hearing the Olympus camera division being sold, I rushed to get the E-M10 III. Haha. Either I can continue to live with my E-M10 MkIII or I'll probably get the MkIV or the E-M5 MkIII body only next year.
The wifi connection for remote, is actually much better than the bt version. Longer range, faster and more stable. Especially if there are objects in the way.
As an owner of an E-M10 MkIII, I think I've only used the video feature a handful of times, primarily in the beginning of ownership. 4K is nice but not a worthwhile addition for me, so not have a mic jack is perfectly fine for me. I'm glad there are some improvements but not enough for me to consider upgrading at the moment.
Hello, Peter! After releasing Mark IV I’ve disappointed a bit. I like video shooting and I’ve expected FullHD 120 fps, but… No FullHD 120fps, no mic jack , etc. Today I’ve sold my OMD E-M10 MIII and decided to change my gear toward SONY or Canon. I’m a bit sad through. There are very few changes in a new one - grip and C-AF and someone else. I wish you al the best!
Hi Peter, Good review. It was good to see Sompasari again, I was a Chief Engineer on a British Ro-Ro between 1979 and 1998 and we used to berth there. The visits to Klippen Island in the summer were wonderful, is the Tarmo still a museum? Love Finland and it's people.
Cool. Sompasaari has changed a lot from those days. No harbour anymore and it is going to be a residential area. Klippan is still there and it is a restaurant. Tarmo is still a museum, but the Maritime Museum is now located in Kotka. A few hour drive to east from Helsinki.
Hey I love your videos, I am using omd em10 m3 from past 1 year, I just wanted a quick suggestion from you, is it worth to upgrade from mark 3 to mark 4 and if yes why? Love from India❤
There are some features like Silent Shutter, the better grip, panorama mode, 20Mpix.. If those are things that you feel like you need then yes. But if those are not the things that matter, I do not think that the image quality is so much better. Then no.
Amazing to see brand new. As a current em10 mk 3 owner, I’m really interested in understanding the differences between the EM5 mk3 and this model... to work out what’s next.
A small but significant upgrade. Ibis now very good. Mic being left off again is disappointing, but then I suppose if you want to vlog Olympus wants you to use the em5. A nice little camera to keep in your bag.
It is a beauty. It is still use. It is owned by a club that keeps it in good condition. The airport is quite close to where I live and it flies over our place almost everyday. Love to sound from those motors.
@@ForsgardPeter since it basically is the same hardware for M5 MK III and M10 Mk IV this would be a where marketing decision. Sadly the M5 Mk III still has the old, useless, panorama mode. If they only had at least included a "ghost" image of the last picture inside the alignment boxes in the old panorama versions. Only the blank boxes are totally useless to aline the shots...
That sensor is amazing, I am looking at the EM1 iii, the EM5 iii and the EM1 ii, so this with a grip is a contender. With this camera I can afford to add a pro lens to compliment.
@@DivisionStreetDrums sorry to disappoint you but i am not the right person to clear your doubt. Robin wong mentioned this two points in his video, and he will do anything but putting down Olympus products .
The flip down screen means that you can't fit an external grip as it would interfere with the screen. Also this mk iv has lost the "Myset" option for setting different personalised sets of settings, which is a bit of a backward step
Thank you Peter, nice first impression review. The camera looks nice. Good set of features at a very reasonable price. BTW, can a mic input be added via the USB-C port?
...Hi Mr Forsgard....I am from the old school... these OM 1... beautiful days ...A photographic camera is made to take still images...That's why ....a microphone in a photographic camera...has no sense for me.... My simple question is....the E10 Mark IV camera cover....is plastic....or...metalic..? Thanks Mr Forsgard.. and...my best regards...!!
Any new SD card is ok. If you plan to shoot video then I recommend as fast SD-card as possible. For photography I have had SanDisk Extreme PRO, 95MB/s, V30, X I and for video Lexar 1000X, 150MB/s, V60, XC II
I agree that the grip is very good. But if you aff the Haoge HG-EM5III Quick Release Plate Camera Bracket Holder Hand Grip to an EM5mkiii, you have a superior grip and a superior camera.
A nice and objective review, Peter, thanks! A very nice camera indeed, lovely design, and I really like the JPGs out-of-camera. Oly always has had great JPGs. I know that's considered blasphemy by many but I often work in JPG only.
@@ForsgardPeter Thank you. It will be also nice if you share your experience of working amongst different types of screen: 1) Tilting Screen of EM1, 2) Articulating Screen of EM1ii, and 3) Full Tilting Screen of EM10iv. For pure still photography work, isn’t it difficult to work with Articulating Screen that is not in the same axis of the photo subject? Will be glad to hear your experience of switching from E-M1 to E-M1ii screen.
@@ForsgardPeter I am considering getting into Olympus system for its IBIS and compactness. But as I am only for tilting screen due to still photography, I have a choice of either EM1+12-45mm, or EM10iv+12-45mm. What would you suggest based on your experience? I am at enthusiastic level photography, mainly shooting day-to-day life, nature, street, macro, and architecture environment.

thank you Peter for your film. I am considering buying a camera. In 2004 I bought an Olympus C-2100 uz 10x optical zoom 2.1 Megapixel, he took a lot of pictures and although it is a relic it still works. I also have an Olympus SP 560 uz 18x optical zoom, 8 Megapixel, I took a lot of pictures with it. Although I have been dealing with photography since 1972, I am an amateur. I was thinking about buying the E-M10 Mk II. After your video, I liked the E-M10 Mk IV. I shoot films almost at all, I'm not a blogger. What are you advising me? Greetings from Poland.
I have some questions if you can answer for me since no videos and DPreview mention these; 1) for UHD, does it maintain 102Mbps or it reduce 25Mbps most of time it records. Also for 1080p, does it maintain 52Mbps or not? 2) for video, does it use full width of the sensor or use a cropped portion for UHD? 3) Were you able to see LCD panel during daylight? Thanks in advance.
Does that new screen only flip down? Is it possible for it to be angled in the same way as the MkIII? When taking low angled video, especially using my gimble, being able to tilt the camera is essential, especially the mobile screen sharing has a bit of input lag which is useless for video.
Hi Peter. Nice overview. I am considering getting one as a second body. ( I have the EM1M3 ) . I like the idea of the Panorama option. I assume the in camera stitching is jpg only, does it also save the raw files ? Any possibility of showing ( linking to ) a panorama photo you have taken with this camera ?
Hello Peter. I can't really judge how much better the C-AF is from you example . The Aeroplane is so far away as to be approximate to infinity , so making continuous focus un-necessary . If you do a follow-up video can you pick a moving subject that is getting closer / further away , - an approaching vehicle for example ? Many thanks .
The body looks interesting. I have an old em10mark1 that I don’t use anymore as I replaced it with a sony RX100 as a daily walk around camera This is I may well add. It seems to be a good one to put in the pocket with small prime lens as it’s quite a bit smaller than my em5mklll.
Hi Peter good morning. This equipment should have been launched a year ago but honestly I believe that it shouldn't even be launched. Investment that should be in a new Pen F. This camera is more of the same but Pen F brought something different that added something to the brand.
Can I ask you something? Owner of an Olympus OMD-E-M10 Mark2 for more than 5 years. Ask myself whether it is worth switching to the mark4. Do you think that's worth it?
This camera falls between too many stools. If it had a mic jack, it might be a vlogging camera. It is competing with price drops on the E-M1 II. Entry level full frame cameras from Canon and Sony are in development for stills photographers. In it's own right it seems like a good camera, and may appeal to existing Olympus fans. I can't see the Mk IV gaining traction in the wider camera market, and if I read Peter's body language correctly, he found this review hard work.
i agree with you, Peter. if a camera manufacturer includes a 4K feature in its cameras, it should also include a mic input
I suspect Olympus is trying too hard to differentiate it from the E-M5iii, unfortunately.
Yeah seems they didnt want to cannibalize the reason to own the e-m5 line.

Glad I could help!
I love that the screen flips down. That was the last thing that has kept me from upgrading from the E-PL line.
Yes , that is a very good feature. I like it too!
@@ForsgardPeter I wonder if this (selfie-screen) spells the end of the E-PL range?
@@TL-xw6fh Why don't they? JPEG should have been replaced ten years ago.
@@Biosynchro Simply because they are still not universally supported! Beginners do not buy a camera and find out that they cannot view these files unless they convert them back to jpegs.
@@TL-xw6fh There's no reason why JPEG can't be an option. But JP2K is easy to implement where it isn't already.
This feature makes it possible to achieve high precision focusing on moving children."
This is probably possible because of that new processor. I still think there's a new sensor coming in the next EM1X
Personally I think this is a right move for Olympus to emphasize those features in an astonishingly small and light body for beginners...
Glad to hear!
Awesome intro! 😄
...and a great video as always.
Still, not really cheap.] And I don't think that this will replace your E-M5 Mk III for everyday shooting - no weather sealing, and last I've heard Finnland is not that much better when it comes to rain as, say, England … ;-)
That said, I totally agree with you that the E-M10 Mk II is actually a nice camera. I bought one used some weeks ago, and I find it very liberating (because it was so cheap I just don't worry about weather sealing - if it goes bust, I don't lose much money ;-)). I found even the 16 MP to be practical, but my Pen F has the edge when it comes to details.
Yes the only concern I have is the weather sealing. You are right, but we will see.
I just bought a MK II, wondering if it wouldn’t be worth it to upgrade for these added features.
Excellent video 😮!
Thank you very much!
Wow, wonderful breakdown. This was the first of your videos I've watched. You've got a subscriber from me.
Top quality sir, nicely done
Thanks and welcome!
Glade to see Olympus putting out a new and improved em10. Looks like solid upgrades. It might be a match made in heaven with the 12-45 pro lens.
Did you get it?
Peter; thank you for this thought provoking review. I was considering upgrading my EM10 Mark 2 to an EM10 Mark III. Now i will have to rethink my strategy !
I would skip the E-M10 MKIII and go for this one.
@@ForsgardPeter I I shall take your advice above , but wait a bit until the price drops 1
Maybe upgrade to Mrk IV next year
One more thing, I'm not a beginner.
Thanks for sharing samples with the kit lens. Another reviewer used a 12-100 pro lens and the review was useless.
Glad it was helpful!
Peter Forsgård woudk love to see this video!
Good review. Looks like a nice camera that you can always have in your pocket since it's small, light and delivers a decent image quality.
Cool intro.
Thanks.
It’s not the same sensor as the E-M5III; that camera has phase and contrast auto focus. This new camera only has contrast.
Seems to be the sensor from the discontinued PEN-F which is 20MP contrast-detection.
So it's a new sensor?
@@mundos4444 , no, I would say it's the sensor that was in the PEN-F: 20MP, contrast-AF only.
Glad to hear that you enjoy your new camera.
GIVE US A MIC JACK!!!
It's called an E-M5 MkIII
Eric L no, it is called the Panasonic G85 :-) am going to go with Panasonic instead
@@GRreviews-techvideos hopefully mkV comes along faster than that!!
One question, is it a plastic body ?
I think it is the same material as the E-M5 MKIII.
At 12:27 I imagined knocking the bag and SPLASH! into the water, like Rowan Atkinson in the famous advert when he is in the boat with his binoculars!
:D
I love the new grip, but the USB charging alone makes me want to upgrade from my MkIII.
I recently bought the 12-45pro and love it. Now I see how everyone felt when they bought the 12-40pro. The only time I've taken the lens off was to see how it felt on my old epl-6.
Great job as always.
Thanks. The 12-45mm f4 is also my favorite go-to lens. I also think that USB charging is a very good feature.
My new camera! can't wait to get it.
Thank you Peter, I always enjoy your "take" on things. Location too. One thing for me though, if I had just a tick more time to look at the images it would be good for me. Just 1 more second would be cool for my brain. (;
Good point!
Looks like a great camera, a step back in the right direction after dumbing down on the mk.iii. I have thd mkii and think its a cracking little piece, I likd the grip redesign, I think it was a failing up until now, canon and Fuji I think have a similar indentation on lots of cameras in their ranges,
Far from it for a non film maker to criticize, but was the white balance correct on the film? There was a very blue cast over everything, your skin tone looked wrong to me. Keep up the great videos
I have the Em10m2, which I love. My biggest issue with the Em10m4 is that it doesn't have Mysets anymore. That is a deal breaker for me.
A great street photography camera, small, unobtrusive, tilt screen and silent shutter!...love it.......will be exchanging my mk111 for one when available...thanks for the video....🇬🇧📸🌈😎
Thanks for a great review 😊
My pleasure 😊

I agree.
Thank you. Will preorder mine in the next few days. Coming from cellphone photography.
Good choice!
I agree with you about the mic input, I am sure about the image quality, but price is imho above market price.
I am new to the Olympus world. After hearing the Olympus camera division being sold, I rushed to get the E-M10 III. Haha. Either I can continue to live with my E-M10 MkIII or I'll probably get the MkIV or the E-M5 MkIII body only next year.
Or a used m1 mk2. 😊
The wifi connection for remote, is actually much better than the bt version. Longer range, faster and more stable. Especially if there are objects in the way.
Thanks for the review Peter! Cheer up!
Thanks and Always!
Thanks peter,just bought it
Great! Enjoy photography!
Thanks for sharing!
A few hour drive to east from Helsinki.
reminds me of the fujifilm 100s. I like the look and feel of that series.
Great looking DC-3! I returned my Mark III due to very poor AF. Hopefully, they fixed it.
It is nice looking plane. Yes the AF is better now.
It looks like the E-M5 Mk III has better IBIS, has phase-detection AF in addition to contrast, is weather-sealed and has a mic jack.
Great pictures of the Dakota Peter
Thanks.
A small but significant upgrade. Ibis now very good. Mic being left off again is disappointing, but then I suppose if you want to vlog Olympus wants you to use the em5. A nice little camera to keep in your bag.
Totally agree with you.
I use the E-M10ll and the E-M1ll - love them both - but I think I see a MKlV in my future!
I prefer the articulating screen. I like to use it when doing macro shots of flowers when hiking. Let’s me get low and compose shots easily.
Excellent review thanks Peter.
Thank you.
good continuation of the line‼️
DC-3! Wow! Beautiful plane -- oh yeah, the new camera worked well to get the shots too! :-)
It is a beauty. It is still use. It is owned by a club that keeps it in good condition. The airport is quite close to where I live and it flies over our place almost everyday. Love to sound from those motors.
@@ForsgardPeter -- The polished stainless steel matches the chrome of the EM10!
There’s just one point I
I disagree. Flip out screen is more useful for photography.
Anyway, great video.
WTF???!!! em10.IV???? And Oly just announced the 100 - 400??!! that's awesome!
That em10.IV came out of nowhere
Finally working Panorama Feature! well overdue... if only the M5 Mk III had it... hope they update the firmware some day...
That would be cool if they added that to E-M5 MKIII via firmware. Most likely no technical limitation and it would be possible.
This is not the same sensor of the cameras that you mentioned, it's the sensor of the pen.
@@samrat_thebestpal Whats the difference? It says it has Phase detection auto focus like the cameras i mentioned and unlike the Pen F?
@@DivisionStreetDrums sorry to disappoint you but i am not the right person to clear your doubt. Robin wong mentioned this two points in his video, and he will do anything but putting down Olympus products .
The flip down screen means that you can't fit an external grip as it would interfere with the screen. Also this mk iv has lost the "Myset" option for setting different personalised sets of settings, which is a bit of a backward step
Thank you for introduction. Can this camera be used with olympus webcam software? The fact that it has no mic input is a real dissopointment to me.
Not sure if it can be used with Webcam software. I need to find out.
Thank you Peter, nice first impression review. The camera looks nice. Good set of features at a very reasonable price. BTW, can a mic input be added via the USB-C port?
It is not an USB-C port it is a USB micro.
...Hi Mr Forsgard....I am from the old school... these OM 1... beautiful days ...A photographic camera is

My simple question is....the E10 Mark IV camera cover....is plastic....or...metalic..?
Thanks Mr Forsgard.. and...my best regards...!!
It is the same material as E-M5 MKIII I believe.
Hello there! Amazing review, what SD card would you recommend to have the best experience whilst shooting? Thanks
Many thanks!
Behind you there's the Fujifilm X - ship. Just in case you didn't noticed
I like the 12-45mm F4 combo idea. Will look forward to seeing the separate video in detail, as you intend too.
It is a good combo. Yes, I will make a video about that combination.
That is a good idea.
I don't need 4K or a microphone. I am a photographer not a filmmaker.
I will take just as good pictures with OMD-10 mark 1 as with my mark 3. Even with an old Pentax K
But I admit that on the IV there are some interesting functions.
thank you Peter for your film.
Just watching videos before watching this one, I also thought E-M10 IV look better than E-M5 III because of the grip!!!
The grip is very good and such a small thing can make a big difference.
@@ForsgardPeter, indeed, it can, and that's why I didn't buy E-M5 III. But, this one attracts me.
I have some questions if you can answer for me since no videos and DPreview mention these;
1) for UHD, does it maintain 102Mbps or it reduce 25Mbps most of time it records.
It tilts down and up to a 90 degree angle.
Great video, fantastic location. What wrist strap are you using?
Thanks. I have the Peak Design Wrist Cuff, amzn.to/3UMcdZS.
Really beautiful camera!
It really is!
I want it just for the panarama mode
I think that going to be my next camera
Lovely, go-anywhere camera indeed.
It sure is!
AND beautiful indeed
It is a jpg and no RAW files as I understand. I will make a video about that feature.
Yes, I know it was not the best example. I will be making more video about the camera.
The body looks interesting. I have an old em10mark1 that I don’t use anymore as I replaced it with a sony RX100 as a daily walk around camera
This is I may well add. It seems to be a good one to put in the pocket with small prime lens as it’s quite a bit smaller than my em5mklll.
Thx Peter! Do you know when the new 8-25mm Lens is coming out?
Unfortunately I do not know that. It was just added to the lens line-up. It can take a while, but lets hope it will be available soon.
If you need the features then yes. It is a better camera.
@@ForsgardPeter Thanks
I like your Peak Design cuff! I will buy one for my em5mk3.
Get one, it is great.
I can buy a used m1 mk2 (under 20000 shots) for 600-700 €.
